May 2013[edit]

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Paulownia with this edit. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Thank you. Sorry and help[edit]

I'm sorry. I'm new to adding anything to Wikipedia and its true I was trying to get some exposure for my paulownia project in Spain. Am I able to create a 'talk' article with a link to our website or is it simply forbidden? I would appreciate your advice.

Also I made what I thought to be reasonable attributions to the Wiki Paulownia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulownia.

Firstly the 'uses' section mentions us at iPaulownia and I amended it to link to our website. Is this forbidden? Secondly I noticed that 'SilvaTree' had an 'external link' and as they are a commercial concern as well, so I added our own external link. This has been disallowed as well. Why would Silvatree be allowed and iPaulownia not?

If you could find some time to advise it would be much appreciated and sorry once agian for my unintended misuse.

Links to sites which add significant useful information on the topic may be acceptable, but not sites which are commercial and promotional, like the site you linked to. . . Mean as custard (talk) 12:44, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Roger, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It is not a place to get exposure for our personal projects. Please take some time acquainting yourself with Wikipedia's mission and policies. You can start here: wp:Five pillars. Happy reading! - DVdm (talk) 12:48, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the information links regarding Wiki etiquette and I fully understand that Wiki is not an advertising platform. I have seen quite a few external links which list commercial websites, not least the one to Silvatree on the Paulownia page. Could you let me know why Silvatree is allowed and mine, iPaulownia, isn't? Our name, iPaulownia, does appear on the page, not sure who put it there but it wasn't me, so it seems fair that anyone reading the article, in its acceptable current form, has a way of getting in contact with us.

It would be appreciated if we were allowed to place our 'external link', at least, on the page that already mentions us. The article refers to several organisations that grow paulownia commercially and support sustainable reforestation, so its quite relevant to the substance of the article. Would the link be acceptable if it went to our picture gallery, for example, rather than the Home page'? Its obviously better to agree an acceptable link before attempting to insert it and gaining your wrath.

As a matter of interest, although we are a commercial organisation, our Paulownia project is being undertaken in cooperation with local communities, both agricultural and scientific. One of the projects, for example, is to use 100Ha of municiple land for paulownia plantation/timber production and irrigate it from the sewage system of the local community. Disposing of the sewage is a problem for them. I confess its a for profit arrangement but so are centres of learning and science which either are commercial organisations, gain subsidies from taxation or reach out to obtain finance through participation in commercial projects. Our project is another of the many paulownia related projects which have economic and environmental significance.
