I view my own contributions page frequently, and thus don't usually need to be alerted when someone's replied to me with a {{talkback}} notice.
Please let me know if something on this page appears strangely; it's mostly customized and I only have one computer to test its appearance on.
Thank you all for helping me climb the lather to adminship! I will do my best to be the person you see me as, although since this is a big change for me, I do plan to start slowly and not do anything of which I'm unsure.

Apologies[edit]

Hi there SOAP, VASCO here,

I apologize sincerely for my antics (to you, not to that or any vandal), you are right, i am not 100% sure (nearly) it's User:Pararubbas. I will try and tone my summaries from now on (anger management problems, and i am being totally earnest with you, not kidding), but in one thing i must differ with you: No, it's the guys like this vandal, with 30+ socks, who write no summaries, who remove links and refs just because, that (can) give the site a bad name, not my attitude (which i again admit was way over the top).

Again, sorry for any incovenience(s), from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 21:14, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for your kindness too, i try and do my best...Unemployment be damned, wish i did not have all that time :) :) - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 21:26, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

What is a RfC and RFAR? Thanks  – Tommy2010 21:51, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Comment and Request for Arbitration, neither of which is something you generally want to be in. Soap 22:19, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
what are they? In a nutshell.  – Tommy2010 23:03, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I dont know anything that isnt on those pages I linked, so if you read those, you'll know everything that i know. Were you just asking from curiosity, or is there an RfC going on that's involving you? Soap 23:12, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ha, I am just curious. Don't jinx me!  – Tommy2010 23:15, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you look at my user talk page history.. and follow the crumbs, you'll get an idea what happened. Appreciate the fresh, clean support Soap. (; —Tommy2010 22:34, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RE: "the late"[edit]

Although I don't believe "the late" is mentioned anywhere directly in the MOS, it is generally assumed that it would defy WP:RECENTISM, because it "muddl[es] or diffus[es] the timeless facets of a subject". If "the late" was appropriate, then we'd use it at every mention of a deceased person. Imagine at an article like French invasion of Russia noting that "the invasion was initiated by the late Napoleon". Both Napoleon and Gary Coleman are dead, the only difference being the time in which they died. — CIS (talk | stalk) 23:14, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK thanks. In that case, I will neither restore it for Gary Coleman or remove it for Kim Peek. Soap 23:20, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think that indeed "the late" can be allowed in certain contexts, but it shouldn't just be inserted before the name of every recently deceased celebrity on every article they're linked to, that would amount to recentism. If the person's death is immediately relevant to the context, then "the late" may be appropriate. — CIS (talk | stalk) 23:27, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit filter management[edit]

Hey Soap. I have been stalking you and noticed you asked another administrator to restore your edit filter management priveledges. You seem very competent and helpful with the userright, so I've restore it for you. Cheers. Someguy1221 (talk) 05:19, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for that revert on my talk page. Very decent of you. While I'm here, I noticed you requested rollback for your sock earlier and I wondered if you wanted the edit filter bit for it as well. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:43, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No thanks, I mostly use the 3centsoap account when I'm out of the house, where I won't want to do any serious editing ... I like the interface gadgets such as popups and custom CSS that arent available to IP's. The only reason I asked for rollback for it is because I plan to also start using it at home as a Huggle-only account, but when I'm at home I'll be able to use the Soap account for everything else. The bit I said earlier about changing accounts because my PC isn't working wasn't really well-thought out. (Besides it seems to be working better now.) Soap 23:56, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Just a though :). Out of interest, is there a reason you've never requested adminship? Glad t hear the PC's working again though, it's always a bugger when they break down. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 00:23, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The problem may recur soon, as the things I did to fix it aren't things that should normally be necessary. I have a backup PC ready if I need it, but it's quite outdated compared to this laptop. As for the other question, I can't really give a definite answer as to whether I will run an RfA. I almost ran back in September (note that that page was never moved out of my userspace), but decided at the last minute to decline the nomination until after I was done with school. Now I am out of school, but would still feel uncomfortable making a commitment like this when I don't know what kind of job I will be working or how much free time I will have. I can assure you that if I do run, it's not a spur of the moment decision. I just want to be sure I'm not taking on more than I can handle. I suspect I'll either run soon or not at all. Thank you for your interest though; I'll keep in touch with you. Soap 19:47, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I realize some people may be coming here wondering what changed my mind in one week from the message above to transcluding the RfA today. So here's my answer: First, I've restored an old computer and copied my important files to it so that it's ready to use in the event that this laptop suddenly stops functioning; secondly, although working a full-time job will reduce the time I spend online to some extent, I've done it before, and even this spring when I was in college and working an internship I was out of the house as much as I would be in any hourly job, and I was still able to average about 600 manual edits a month, only a little bit less than my all-time peaks. Lastly, I realize that being an administrator is more stressful than not being one, but I don't believe it necessarily requires spending more time. And even if I do find myself periodically unable to keep up the schedule of maintaining my watchlist every day, I don't plan to ever retire, so I will always be willing to contribute more. Soap 12:44, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

After you removed the CSD on I Will Stand, citing Healing Word, someone tagged Healing Word for CSD A9. Just so you know. Brambleclawx 21:18, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I frequent AN/I and comment on other people's disputes as White Shadows does, but it's usually in the hope of mediating or diminishing the conflict somehow like this or this.

If i'm out of line as well, I apologize. I was hoping to go up for an RFA in a few months (if not sooner) as well, and I don't want to harm my chances. It will already be hard enough since my main goal is dispute resolution rather than the traditional "Why do you need the tools" replies like DYK and AIV (even though I don't mind helping with those things). Doc Quintana (talk) 23:00, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a co-nom to your RfA. Good luck! ~NerdyScienceDude () 17:18, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Gallaecia and Gallaecian language[edit]

Many thanks for your message Soap, I'm not Boudiviros, and I didn't know this article. I decided to edit about Gallaecian culture and history because I have references and a good bibliography and I love this theme. I think it' very difficult to write an article about the Gallaecian language, because we haven't direct references, no texts nor documents, but we have indirect testimonials on anthroponymy, toponymy and epigraphical rests of it, for this reason it may be studied, although this is a difficult theme, I'm not sure I can do it now, however I'll try to begin it during this month.--Alexander Vigo (talk) 22:35, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Grab some glory, and a barnstar[edit]

Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. monosock 03:30, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jamali & Mystical Expressionism[edit]

Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Jamali Fine Art For the two Wikipedia pages that I am entering, the author Donald Kuspit is a notable art critic, writer, and contemporary art historian who has written two published texts on the artist, Jamali. Kuspit's major essays, on Jamali's contribution to contemporary art history, mystical expressionism, have been published in several editions by Rizzoli international publications inc. For your information Rizzoli is the most significant publisher having on his list major museums all over the world and also being known to publish only the most important artists of all time. Mark Strand, who is a contributer to Jamali's art history is also is on Wikipedia along with Rizzoli international publications. Philip Bishop is a contributer to Jamali's Art History is published by Prentice Hall has published "Adventures In The Human Spirit" prescribed in schools all over America. Also, the artist has been creating art professionally for the past 40 years. Also, can I share with you in the last 100 years some of the most note worthy art movements in western art history have been French impressionism, abstractionism, German expressionism, american abstract expressionism. Mystical Expressionism which is Jammli's contribution to art history, is the latest in this history. As such, I hope you can appreciate the note-worthiness it its lineage; again for your information please know that is is indeed the writers and important publishers who make the final decision of what is art history. Please share your thoughts on my comments and please let me know if there is anything else I can help you understand Jamali's historical relevancy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ARTHISTORIAN2010 (talkcontribs) 20:28, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
