Linking to Defender[edit]

When you want to link to the article about the football position defender, please do not link to Defender, as that is a disambiguation page (which nothing should be linked to). Instead link to the Defender (football) article, by writing out defender. Regards, -- Jeff3000 20:31, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oops sorry, I think I have to check my links better next time. Thanks, SportsAddicted 11:48, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Another one to check is Dutch, please link to the Netherlands as Dutch. Thanks -- Jeff3000 04:28, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Patricia Labee and her template (help requested)[edit]

Can anyone please have a look at the article about Patricia Labee? I created an infobox for beach volleyball players, which I have used on her article already. The last part of the template is about the best results achieved by the player, but for some reason this is nog showing up in the article, while it does show up when accessing the template. Can anyone help me with this ? Thanks SportsAddicted 14:54, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll look into it! -- Merope 15:17, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, SportsAddicted 15:31, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good gravy, I don't know what's going on, either. My guess is that the infobox template is buggered--Patricia Labee is the only page to use it so far. I'll put the helpme tag back, since I don't have a clue. Sorry! -- Merope 15:41, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I took a look and fixed it. The problem was that the template has this line: {{#if: {<noinclude>-</noinclude>} | In that line it is asked if there is a bestresults variable in the template. If it is found, the best results are displayed, if not, they are not. I put a 1 as the variable value, and it was fixed. I will change the template later so that it is not needed to check for that variable. -- ReyBrujo 16:34, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks ReyBrujo, I also answered your question on the talk page of the template. SportsAddicted 21:17, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Scott Evans[edit]

Hey, thought you'd like to know that an anon is hijacking your Scott Evans article and changing it to refer to another Scott Evans. I've reverted twice and don't want to get into a WP:3RR situation so I thought maybe you'd want to weigh-in on which Scott Evans belongs there. —Wknight94 (talk) 01:25, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, I saw it and would have reverted him if you wouldn't have done it already. Anyways, as there is this other Scott Evans as well, I think we have to make it a disambiguation page then. SportsAddicted 01:28, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not really. WP:D essentially says to think about what readers are most likely looking for when they type "Scott Evans" in the search. That should be the article at Scott Evans. Less likely candidates should be at Scott Evans (lacrosse) and Scott Evans would need a dablink at the top pointing to Scott Evans (lacrosse). You should only do what you did - create a dab page as the main article - if there is an equal likelihood that a reader was looking for each Scott Evans. I'm not familiar with either of these Scott Evans so I'll leave it up to you but, in general, I'm not a big fan of dab pages with only two entries on them. —Wknight94 (talk) 01:38, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK I actually agree with you, but I recently moved from the Dutch wiki to this wiki and over there it was the standard to do it this way. Anyways, the badminton player isn't really famous (yet) either, although he is a talent. So I think they're quite equal to each other for now and it can always be changed again afterwards. Cheers, SportsAddicted 01:43, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at your user page I saw that you're probably from Rotterdam (town), New York ? That's cool, as I'm from Rotterdam, The Netherlands. ;) SportsAddicted 01:52, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Heh heh. Well, it's pretty obvious which Rotterdam was named for which.  :) —Wknight94 (talk) 02:01, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
LOL, I was wondering wether you would think those are quite equal as well ? ;) SportsAddicted 02:11, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Certainly not. One is a world-renowned seaport city - the other is my home town! —Wknight94 (talk) 02:19, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Aren't administrator's home towns privileged? SportsAddicted 02:26, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I missed that policy.  :) —Wknight94 (talk) 03:02, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, then maybe I was mistaken and should we set up such a policy, just for you. SportsAddicted 03:07, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sports biographies improvement[edit]

Hey - I've joined your project - which is a very good idea, even though it's huge for one person :) - and left a comment at User talk:SportsAddicted/Sports biographies/Cricket. Sam Vimes | Address me 18:41, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for joining, I will take a look and will comment where needed. SportsAddicted 19:28, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Do you want people to add names to your lists, or should they be left here for you to add them later? Sam Vimes | Address me 19:32, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to add them to the lists, I have all pages on my wachtlist, so I will see what happens there. Review the articles immediately or flag them with ntbc when you want to do that later. SportsAddicted 19:40, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to start a sports biographies improvement, please don't leave out important components when creating articles. See this diff to Ramil Aritkulov. Punkmorten 10:24, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. The thing is, there is so many categories I don't know of yet, or it's hard to remember which ones to use. I have to study categories more often. Thanks for the reminder though. SportsAddicted 11:05, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Holland Series[edit]

Replied to you on my talk page.--DaveOinSF 17:51, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello... you added a nice photo to Kervezee's article, but I don't think we can use it at the moment. To qualify for the promotional tag you used, there must be evidence of who owns the copyright on the photo; simply mentioning the website where you found it (ie Cricinfo) is probably not good enough. Also, "promotional" images must only be of low resolution; this one is certainly too big. I'm going to ask on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cricket to see what the situation is, so you might want to look there. Loganberry (Talk) 01:18, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Football AID 1 October – 8 October[edit]

Thank you for participating in the Football AID vote this week.

Ben Thatcher has been selected as this week's collaboration. Please do help in working to improve it.

Current sports events[edit]

Hello - not sure if you were aware that you did this, but please do not remove the <div id="1_October_2006"> </div> and similar from the articles. They are used to jump to the proper position when someone clicks on the date on the calendar. --After Midnight 0001 04:07, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry wasn't meant to do that of course. Hope it's not much of a problem to restore it. SportsAddicted 04:20, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, not a problem, I already have returned it. I only mentioned it, because it took me a while to learn what those do and I don't know how common they are for other users. Thanks! --After Midnight 0001 04:23, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
LOL, well I didn't know why they were there, but I didn't have the intention to remove them. And thanks to this mistake I now know what they are for. SportsAddicted 04:25, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fencers[edit]

Hi, when creating articles about fencers please consider taking the time to see if there is more to add to the article (checking "what links here" is a good idea). For instance Igor Tikhomirov was an Olympic medalist in 1988. Thanks, Punkmorten 08:52, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tip, I will get used to it some day. SportsAddicted 09:51, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Brazil in Lusophone Games[edit]

Well i think it's because their season is different than in Europe.. the Football Championship in Brazil is running with matches yesterday and in the weekend, so they decided not to take part of the competition.. About their Basketball, i don't know, but i think it's the same reason Calapez 14:20, 5 Octuber 2006 (GMT)

Yes, that's why the football competition already started, to have the some date than European and African Qualifyers.. The football teams in the event are all Under 20 mainly --Calapez 16:21, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bio templates[edit]

I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you suggesting that these articles shouldn't be a part of the biography project? If you're curious as to whether I'm following you around, I'm not. I just grab batches of 50 or more new pages at a time and work them over the following day. I actually wondered what the little medal looking things were, and I see now what you're doing. It's very interesting, and I wish you well with it. I think sports bios would stil qualify as part of the overall biography project, though. Drop me a line any time if I'm misunderstanding you or for any other reason. Erechtheus 22:15, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, that makes perfect sense. As far as I understand it, everyone who wants to participate can be a part of any project. You're perfectly welcome to add the templates to the talk page I have been adding. I don't even know who started the biography project. I think the biography template is a very important one to add to the talk page, particularly when the person is alive. It's important that everyone possible reads and understands the WP:BLP policy. Thank you for responding and good luck with your editing. Erechtheus 02:41, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Field hockey players[edit]

I saw you updated the WPBiography tag for a bunch of Argentine wome hockey players. Among other things you say an infobox is needed for the articles; which infobox should be used for these cases? Thanks, Mariano(t/c) 07:41, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You think it would be wise to create a generic SportsPerson infobox? Or should I create a specific WomanFiledHockeyPlayer infobox? something in between? Mariano(t/c) 07:51, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Tell me what you think about the Infobox field hockey player so I can tune it up before start using it... Mariano(t/c) 09:32, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Would you care to publicite it a bit? got to run, won't be back til monday. Otherwise I'll do it next week. Take care, Mariano(t/c) 14:16, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, I thought about the continental championship, being the Pan American Games the South American equivalent of the European Championship, but I wasn't sure how to handle it. We could:
 • use Continental Championship wihtout link
 • have both(all) championships and make visible only the one used (europeanchampyears, europeanchamptitles, panamyears, panamtitles, etc.)
 • or consider it second class information to be displayed outside the info-box.
I've never been for too heave info-boxes that are 5 times longer than the article itself (example: Naomi van As), so I would prefer to have less important titles (same thing for club titles) outside the infobox, but I don't have a strong oppinion on that.
A small thing on the use of the template. I thought of championshipyears as "championship in which the player participated", and not "champions in which the player won the following titles" later described with championshiptitles. I see Fatima Moreira de Melo doesn't have a row for the 2003 champions's trophy. She didn't participate, or she just didn't win a medal? we should first decide and the clarify the use of the pair of parameters to avoid this ambiguity. Cheers, Mariano(t/c) 07:37, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, then I suggest we add both the Pan American Games and the European Championship as optional parameters, and later add the corresponding Asian/African/Oceanian championships when needed. Regarding the parameters though, how do we state in the info-box that a player participated of an even, but didn't win any medal? Use a - at medals? Are the parameters' names:competitionyears and competitionmedals coherent with it?
BTW, have you thought of adding a link to your talk page at your signature? It comes handy when someone want's to leave you a message. See you, Mariano(t/c) 09:46, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Should we change the parameters competitionmedals for competitionresults then? I'm asking you so I implement these changes for the new parameters (I will have to fix the players that already use the infobox).
for the signature, from the menu on top of any page:My Preferences/Signature. You can copy whatever you have at your dutch page, just be careful with the English words (Talk page, User, etc.)
For example, my signature is:Mariano<small>(t/c)</small>. By the way, congratulations on the title World Cup gold!! Mariano(t/c) 11:18, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The change in the parameter name is small, but a standard on the use of the Infobox must be set. As now, only medals should be included. I will change it to results.
About your signature, you re-coded html elements. try using: SportsAddicted<small>(discuss)</small> (without the nowiki tags!!!!). that results is SportsAddicted(discuss) (discuss here is not a link because we ARE in the talk page ;o)
Take care, and enjoy your vacations! Mariano(t/c) 11:38, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Just realized... There's no European Field Hockey Championship article!!! Also missing is Hockey at the Pan American Games. I suggest we wait until created before adding them to the infobox... Mariano(t/c) 11:45, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Mea culpa... Forgot to tell you to tic (turn on) the Raw signature option... Mariano(t/c) 12:09, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RWC maps[edit]

Hi SportsAddicted, Thanks again for doing the map for the 2007 Rugby World Cup, its really great. If its not too much trouble, do you think you could have a go at doing one for the 1995 Rugby World Cup? Did it take long? If you don't have have any time right now then thats cool, but if you feel you could do it then that would be really appreciated. Cheers. Cvene64 12:24, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your question about Creative Commons licenses. As you can read at Commons:Licensing, WikiCommons do not accept images that can not be altered. All I can suggest is that you contact the Flickr user, Michelos, and ask if he/she would be willing to license the photos under a less restrictive license. Chinese Taipei v. Taiwan[edit]

I have put Taiwan as parenthetical for each entry of Chinese Taipei in the 2006 Intercontinental Cup page due to the fact that players come from all over the country, not only Taipei and to make sure people know that this teams is in fact Taiwan, and not China. THe main Chinese language sports website here in Taiwan is using Taiwan, not Jhonghua for the team name. I will be attending many of the games and will update results and provide photos. Ludahai 01:31, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Philippines[edit]

Since you are so interested, please make the article and there will be no problem. It looks rather odd to have a well-ordered page have that one slash of red all the way through it. I have put a lot of time into that page and I want it to look good. I believe that the original page creator does get SOME leeway in some of these matters on Wikipedia. Ludahai 08:32, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'll change them right now. It is almost gametime BTW for the 2006 Konami Cup Asia Series Game. I'll try to get them done before game time. Ludahai 08:56, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Speedskating World Cup[edit]

Thanks! Hopefully I'll have the energy to update it all throughout the season. :)

You're doing good work all round too, lots of nice articles and good work on current events. Certainly a lot less biased now. ;) Sam Vimes | Address me 10:23, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(Late reply) I've seen User:SportsAddicted/Sportsnews, yes. I'm not quite sure whether it belongs in the wiki namespace - after all, the encyclopedia is supposed to be a bit permanent - but if you can find an okay title ("List of current sports events") or something, I suppose it's ok. RE: Van nistelrooy stats[edit]

The stats I got for his time at Man U were taken from here 1, and it may just be that I made some errors while extrapolating data from the table--I was rather rushed while creating the chart. Thanks for keeping an eye out! --Flute138 11:37, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Darts player infobox[edit]

I've tried to add some pieces of info to the darts player infobox but on Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld some details have never appeared on edits such as darts used - my additional current ranking doesn't either - can you help, must be missing a comma, squiggle or something? I'll try to add infoboxes to other top players once its fixed Seedybob2 14:05, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed it - the template had been adjusted from another sport, but had "teammate" or something left in. Since there was no teammate section it would never display everything added below. Seedybob2 23:27, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Intercontinental Cup[edit]

Since the Dutch can technically still be caught, I removed the color, though it is HIGHLY unlikely. If Australia beats the Netherlands by a large margin (not likely), and Taiwan can beat Cuba while keeping them off the board (not likely), the Netherlands could lose a three-way tiebreaker. Not likely, but mathematically possible, so they don't get the green yet. Ludahai 12:44, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, Taiwan's chances of progressing are pretty good. If the Netherlands beats Australia, the Dutch get third, and unless Italy wins (creating a three way tie, which Taiwan will still win unless it get clobbered by a second string Cuban side), Taiwan sneaks in as seed number four. I expect (and hope) the Dutch win today. Even if we beat Cuba, you beat us on tiebreaker anyway - that was a great game.Ludahai 01:12, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! Your manager has quite the potty mouth! Well, NOW the Dutch get green. Ludahai 14:03, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It wasn't what he said to the press - most English language obscenities don't translate well into Chinese anyway. It was what he said to the umpire in the 11th inning that got him kicked out of the game. Every word of it was heard over the microphone behind home plate and was on TV. I can't repeat the language in a public forum, it was THAT bad! He might be facing a suspension or some other sanction after that outburst. Ludahai 01:55, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Always happy to be of service. BTW, could you please keep an eye on the tournament page this weekend? I have a soccer match in the afternoon and tickets to the Cuba-Taiwan rematch Saturday night, and am going to both medal matches on Sunday after running a marathon in the morning (yes - busy weekend). Could you also update the scores here (Portal:Current events/Sports) as well. Thanks.Ludahai 05:47, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I took some pictures. I'll try to upload them later this week. Ludahai 13:40, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Munich[edit]

Would you be interested in helping out atWikiProject Munich? Kingjeff 21:58, 18 November 2006 (UTC) The fact is there is no requirement of you having to know something about Munich. For instance, the other member in the WikiProject knows a lot about Wikipedia Policy and can help bringing articles up to policy standards. Maybe there's an area that you know about where you can contribute. Kingjeff 22:05, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

After looking at your user page, it looks like you might be good at assessing articles. Is this true? Kingjeff 22:07, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know how to assess articles? It loos like you do from your user page. Maybe you could help out with that. I still haven't put templates on all the Munich-related articles and I surely haven't assesed them all. Kingjeff 22:15, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It'sjust that you have Gold class articles, Silver class articles and so on. You may have created yourself but it looks like you know something about assessing articles. Kingjeff 22:22, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Would you like to be in charge of assessing articles? Although it will require you to change Template:WikiProject Munich. Kingjeff 22:30, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. That's fine. Will you redo the instructions for assessing articles? Kingjeff 22:39, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you can. Kingjeff 22:42, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nosenuggets[edit]

Personally, I am getting sick of his general - if it isn't this in the US, than it isn't attitude. And to think I was born there. Argh. Well, at least not all Americans are like him. BTW, congrats to the Dutch. They would have won the gold without the five errors. Ludahai 09:14, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It would be one thing if it was the first time with him over the time issue, but it clearly isn't. As for the bronze, I think we would have done better if we came out of the gates a little faster. The 3-13 loss to Italy in the opener didn't help. Well, we will basically be at full strength for the Asian game (we were missing key players in the Intercontinental Cup). BTW, we are also hosting the World Cup next year. I can't wait. Ludahai 09:22, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Japan and South Korea will also be stronger, but only marginally so. We were missing more players in the Konami Cup than they were. Besides, Korea's Samsung Lions finished behind both the La New Bears and the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters in Tokyo. Taiwan has several national team players on La New and one on Hokkaido. Japan has only a couple on Hokkaido.

Sports team titles[edit]

Hi. I checked your userpage to seeif there was an indication of your country of residence/origin. That not being so, I'm not making any assumptions. Just a couple of notes on the titles you're using: first, in English, it's practice to use the name of the country as an adjective. So rather than saying, for instance, Germany soccer team, it is German soccer team; second, you are doubling the word "handball" in the titles. This is not necessary - "beach handball" is already handball. Finally, it would be more beneficial to Wikipedia if, instead of creating many very short stubs, you could create longer articles which include such things as team history, competition stats, and coach/player names. I don't intend to discourage you from contributing, but the focus on Wikipedia has changed from quantity to quality in the last year or so. Denni talk 21:09, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You[edit]

Thank you for support me back to the 2006 Asian Games, sorry i haven't change my mind even a lot of expansion I'm still can do. I know I'm make the big impact to the article, but as far as I'm realize, it already far from my principles and objectives. First, about Chinese Taipei, i'm feel i'm ass to voice too much, my objectives is Chinese Taipei is use as sports team name, officially it is not needed to add Taiwan (use as country name), at least i'm divide the usage, not to mix up together, to keep it clean.

Second, i'm already bored with chaos circumstances in that page, with the praise of minor contributors , and the request of rubbish comment about usage: media have media view, Taiwanese have Taiwanese view (include Taiwan Wikipedians), Wikipedians has Wikipedians view, this is sickly feeling. How about International Sports Organisations, designated an exhibition name? Indeed i'm voice too much, if that is arrogant person, they won't hear. Indeed after this incident, i'm likely to focus on the sports with Chinese Taipei has slim chance to enter the final round, or at least no it name and working in nice environment.

Today, someone post comment (you know who is), from his wording, it still show some arrogant message, not aware himself (is he listen to my propose as he defend himself so much), how i can continue commit myself in that article. Sorry, working in that circumstance will make me insane. If he downgrade himself, may be i'll change my mind. Sorry --Aleenf1 16:29, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
See how he create Chinese Taipei article, if i continue to work in that page, i'm will living in hospital. So, i'm not change my mind. --Aleenf1 17:28, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
i'm not say that problem, but he is create article Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) at the 2006 Asian Games, again i'm already talk in village pump, he is not follow, that is not use to talk with this person. Indeed he is make his own without refer, that is horrible. I'm already said, he is really to defend the name of "Taiwan". However, one example, Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is named "Chiang Kai-shek International Airport" before it change the name (do you know where is that airport if not read that article). However, why not put "Taiwan" behind, because it is official name at the time. So, it should make it clear in the relevant article, and not to create the mixture name (not official). So, i not wanna to talk much to him, wasting my time with arrogant person, away is nice. --Aleenf1 05:26, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, SportsAddicted, i give you good news, i'm may be change my mind. However, ask you, isi't all the problem solve? Of course i'm not change my mind easyly, but due to lack of update in article. I WILL make a comeback IF solve all. Thank you --Aleenf1 05:13, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, SportsAddicted, since you told me the problem solve (indeed no all), i'm will comeback to updating the article. And can you help me to copyedit Badminton #Competitions? I'm appreciate you are helping me. Thank you --Aleenf1 01:23, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, SportsAddicted, try to discuss with the creator of rowing at the 2006 Asian Games creator that this should be together with Canoe-Kayak, only 39 sports, not 40. It should merge. Signature[edit]

Hello there! I noticed how you signed at Talk:2006 Asian Games, and came here to give you a tip: according to our current signature guidelines, transcluding signatures is not recommended. I would recommend you to either use the preferences to set your signature, or to substitute your signature everytime you sign (like instead of . Thanks! -- ReyBrujo 04:42, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there. It is a technical issue. Apparently, you created a page with your signature, User:SportsAddicted/Signature, and then set in your preferences to add everytime you sign. As explained by this section, it is not recommended to transclude your sign because of two points:
 1. They require extra processing—whenever you change your signature source, all talk pages you have posted on must be re-cached. In other words, everytime you change User:SportsAddicted/Signature, the server must process every page you have signed in order to replace your old signature with your new one.
 2. Signature templates are also vandalism targets, and will be forever, even if the user leaves the project. In other words, anyone can go to your User:SportsAddicted/Signature page, change it with an offensive message, and suddenly all the places where you signed will contain such message.
To prevent these points, it is easier to just substitute your signature with subst:, which will copy the source of User:SportsAddicted/Signature in place of in the place where you sign, preventing both drawbacks. Feel free to keep it the way you have it, I am just pointing out :-) Cheers! -- ReyBrujo 11:22, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Try going to Special:Preferences. I am thinking you have set in the Signature field. If so, replace it with , and try signing again. I think that should work. Next time you sign, you should get SportsAddicted</font> | <small style="color:dimgray;">discuss</small> as your signature. -- ReyBrujo 15:28, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

moving pages[edit]

You beat me to changing the name of the Chinese Taipei at the 2006 Asian Games page. However, please make sure you don't leave any double redirects next time. Thanks, and LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!! Ludahai 13:38, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. Just trying to cover all the bases. BTW, I don't know how to change a redirect after the page has been moved. I only know how to do it AS the page is being moved. BTW, I am creating pages for other sports. Ludahai 13:48, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kenneth Monkou[edit]

Out of curiosity, why did you change Ken Monkou to Kenneth Monkou? He has been known as Ken where-ever he has played in England, and Kenneth seems too formal. Most players are known by an abbreviated version of their full names (No-one would dare to remane Bobby Charlton as Robert Charlton (footballer)).

License tagging for Image:Bredakolff.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bredakolff.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

2007 in NASCAR Busch Series[edit]

Merge[edit]

Yeah, the same thing happened at 2006/07 Speed Skating World Cup. It's User:Brandenburg who has made and maintains them, I think he does a good job, but he hasn't started to edit at 2007 Speed Skating World Cup yet. For the record, I think his choice of names are better, since it does span both seasons and usually does so when FIS and ISU are talking about the seasons. But have a word with him, anyway. :) Sam Vimes | Address me 13:43, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lee Van Corteza[edit]

He only won $2500 in 2005. That hardly makes one a notable sportsperson. My cousin is a minor league golfer and he probably makes that much money in a year, he doesn't qualify for an article either. If you disagree, you can take it WP:DRV. User:Zoe|(talk) 18:51, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: 2006/07 Ski jumping World Cup[edit]

Yeah, I noticed that 2007 Ski Jumping World Cup was started a couple of days after I started 2006/07 Ski jumping World Cup. The same "problem" emerged with the 2007 Speed Skating World Cup, where both User:Sam Vimes and myself started an article. After reading his article, it seemed that he would use much more time on his than I would on mine, so I redirected my page to his. I have decided to spend some time on the Ski jumping World Cup, and have in addition to the 2006/07 Ski jumping World Cup, also made 2005/06 Ski jumping World Cup 2004/05 Ski jumping World Cup in the same style. This season I'm concentrating about the top 5 in every competition + the World Cup leader (if he's not in the top 5). Also, I think 2006/2007 is a better name than 2007.

Yes it will spare space, but I find it "unorganized" when lenghts, points and overall points are added. It gets hard to read. I feel that the ski jumping articles are ok in lenght, but if we were to do the same with biathlon, witch has 5 events for both men and women + mixed relay, going down with the tables would take a lot of space. In my opinion, the different sports need the following info
 • Biatlon: Time (maybe penalty loops)
 • Alpine skiing: Time +
 • Speed skating: Time
 • Ski jumping: Lenght's, points, WC points

I do agree that the same style would be the best, but it's maybe more practical with one for ski jumping, and another for sports with more events, and less info needed?? Brandenburg 21:13, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think we all agree that the articles have to be merged. My suggeston is that we use tables going downwards in the ski jumping articles, and on one row in the rest of the wintersports. User:Sam Vimes have already said that he found my style best for the ski jumping articles, despite the fact that the articles are quite long. I think his "one row" style is much better in the speed skating articles.Brandenburg 21:36, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Singular or plural?[edit]

The use of the singular seems to be the standard, see European Championship, but feel free to move it back. Obviously the official name, used by reliable external sources, is preferable to any in-house Wikipedia convention. I strongly suspect that a lot of these articles and categories are mis-named, and that people have not really put too much though into the singular/plural issue. Probably a mass of work for v little benefit.

Whatever, the singular form must always be a redirect to the actual article, or vice versa, which will now be the case, even if you move it back :) --Mais oui! 03:01, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speed skating source[edit]

For men born after about 1960, you can use Jakub Majerski's site. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the women - Evert Stenlund does, but doesn't have the time and place. However, at least for current skaters, those can be found at DESG after a bit of searching around.

The old-timers are trickier, but again they'll usually be on Stenlund's site in the old Adelskalenders. Skateresults has a few PBs, and as a last resort there's a mailing list at Yahoo where you'll usually get the correct answer - there's a couple of guys there with a massive database. Yep, I just reviewed your edits to curling related subjects. Good work on the European Championships page. Had I been in town, I would have helped you out. -- Earl Andrew - talk 00:49, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They're all red links, and I for one do not plan on creating them. I really don't know how it would work. Curling is different than other team sports in that to represent your country, you have to earn it through competition against other teams, so there is not really a national team for most of the major curling countries. Something we could do is have pages like Germany at the World and European Curling Championships or Curling in Germany or something for example. -- Earl Andrew - talk 17:28, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A page for the Dutch team might work, but I couldn't see it working for a country like Canada. I would like to see what others think though. Do you think it would be wise for me to start a Curling WikiProject? -- Earl Andrew - talk 21:14, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Federicocrescentini.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add Replaceable fair use disputed, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. Mari Hemmer[edit]

Haugli is overtrained and had some asthma symptoms (if you remember, she got worse and worse as the November World Cups wore on) and she decided not to participate, not taking any chances.

On men's surprises: Bøkko didn't make the podium because he fell on the 500, and Grødum isn't good enough.

I don't think I'm going to make an article about it, for the simple reason that nobody cares - I was one of 200 spectators on the first day of the championship, and the results got about three lines in local papers. So the lines on 2007 in speed skating ought to do, along with some lines in 2007 European Speed Skating Championships, whenever someone makes that, about Norwegian selection issues. Hemmer was first not selected, then there was a massive uproar, and Norwegian Skating Association president Terje Andersen, along with the board, intervened and gave her the trip to Collalbo. diacritics in cats[edit]

I noticed your removed the diacritic marks in the categories for Danko Lazović and was wondering why? I noticed another Wikipedian did the same in another article [3] but I have yet to receive a response from him on why he has made the changes. Perhaps you can point me in the direction of the right Wikipedia help page/style guidelines for this as there many biographical articles that I have contributing to that uses the diacritics and I want to be sure these articles are consistent with whatever guidelines are out there. Thanks. // Laughing Man 15:31, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Disregard this question, I found the answer: WP:CATEGORY#Category_sorting. There are just so many articles that do not use the convention, perhaps a bot should be updating these categories. // Laughing Man 15:50, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Gene Nygaard was actually who I initially asked, I guess he was to busy fixing these to reply :) I'm not too familiar either if a bot would be able to do this easily, but I guess I assumed there were bots to create standard alphabet redirects to articles that use diacritics in the titles and that one can perhaps do the same for the categories. Just a thought.
I will look into this further when I get a chance, but to be honest I think the best solution would be if someone can just fix the "category sorting" code in MediaWiki to support the characters, just so we can use proper diacritic marks everywhere, including categories. I'll bring it up to Gene also as maybe he has more of an interest to pursue this if it's possible. In any case, thanks for the response :) // Laughing Man 16:17, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ik ben trouwens ook een lijst aan het maken van Nederlandse sport-artikelen die nog moeten worden geschreven: User:Aecis/The Netherlands/Sports of the Netherlands. Leef je uit, zou ik zeggen ;) Aecis Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984. 11:58, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problems with Image:Federicocrescentini.jpg and others[edit]

An image that you uploaded, Image:Federicocrescentini.jpg, Image:Ericnamesnik2.JPG, Image:PaulArizin1.JPG, Image:Artdonovan.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

Abu Badali 21:55, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please, not the the some person's death doesn't affect the copyright to the images depicting this person. As a rule of thumb, avoid using image from image agencies like Reuters or Getty Images. Best regards, --Abu Badali 22:04, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You can remove all of these as I was in the understanding ANY pictures of deceased people were able to be used under fair use as it is unable to take pictures of these people anymore. Apparently this is not the case, so they should be deleted. Please do not mess up my talk page by placing four identical messages like this, but combine them like I did now. Oh one more thing, the source for the artdonovan picture can still be found in the licensing part of the image, but is striked out. I found it on that website, so that is my source. If that is an unreliable source for whatever reason, don't ask me to provide another source as I don't have it either. However I still don't see why that source would be unreliable. Cheers, SportsAddicted | discuss 10:41, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

nl-wiki[edit]

Prettig nieuwjaar, overigens. Maryline Salvetat[edit]

I have announced your article at Wikipedia:WikiProject France/New article announcements. If you write more about France-related topics, please announce your articles there. Thank you, and happy editing, STTW (talk) 21:58, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1. It has been the required 5 days for an AFD to run, and lots of discussion was there. 2. AFD is not a vote, it is a discussion, and reasons must be given why or why not to delete. 3. I have put reasons at the top of the AFD. -Royalguard11(Talk·Desk·Review Me!) 02:53, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you disagree with the outcome of an AfD you can take it to Wikipedia:Deletion review. JACOPLANE • 2007-01-3 03:27

I know that, but I try to get into contact with another user first before taking such a step. Thanks anyways. SportsAddicted | discuss 03:33, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I probably took about 20 minutes analyzing all argument and opinion given on the AFD before making any decision. It is a discussion, not a vote, so the outcome does not necessarily always reflect the amount of !votes on each side. The little bit at the closure I put was a short and quick summary that I got from reading over the AFD. I went over each reason given for keep and delete, and the keep ones were, well, not real arguments. Things like "for future research", where Wikipedia isn't here to be a record of all history. Opinions like "that information is usefull" fall under the I like it arguement, which is not a viable reason to keep. Something like WP:NOT is a policy. If you wish to take it to DRV, be my guest. -Royalguard11(Talk·Desk·Review Me!) 05:43, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Goalscorers articles[edit]

Hi, I'm letting you know that I have taken the goalscorers articles to the deletition review here: 3 January 2007 and your arguments to bring them back would be appreciated. Thanks 190.40.185.235 15:05, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

Hello, SportsAddicted, thanks for creating 2007 in badminton, it is in my mind for long time but did not make it because little busy somewhere. Just inform, i will or can i make any changes in that article? If i change it, i hope you not blame you. RESPECT YOU! Thank you. --Aleenf1 06:05, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what you mean about the the layout, table? If possible, i want to cut out the table to cut the article size. Also, i'm not sure why you put the "leader", anypoint? (Not blame, keep discuss) --Aleenf1 06:15, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ooh, yes, but i'm not sure IBF will publish in the website, or we can do just wait. Isi't tennis also publish out? I'm not sure of that, but i will like to create a new article instead write in that article. Anyway, if you have more better idea or instead to keeping it, feel free to talk to me. Thank you. --Aleenf1 06:47, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, done, i'm hide the table first and hope you satisfy about that. Thank you. --Aleenf1 07:59, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yemen[edit]

Hi, SportsAddicted,
finally, i got a response from Andrwsc re:the Asiad NOC Infobox template. i started adding the template in the (few) existing articles and i noticed that you created Yemen at the 2006 Asian Games, so i wanna ask if you have personal knowledge or know of a site where i can find Yemen's Asiad appearances details. i merely put the appearances infos based on wiki articles. all pre-1998 Asiad articles does not list participating NOCs, so i'm not sure if that country had participated prior to 1998. thanks and more power. --RebSkii 19:14, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userfied goalscorer articles[edit]

 1. User:SportsAddicted/Eredivisie 2006/2007 goalscorers
 2. User:SportsAddicted/Eerste Divisie 2006/2007 goalscorers

Do you need the FA one too? ~ trialsanderrors 00:00, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Did you transfer/convert those? I'm going to delete them in the next days, as we agreed. ~ trialsanderrors 04:35, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Schaatsen[edit]

been there, done that. SportsAddicted | discuss 04:42, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Go[edit]

Ahh, I've forgotten to remove to categories, thanks for showing me. Also, I was waiting on review of the draft by Wikipedia:WikiProject Go, so it's not quite done yet. I'll go ahead and take out the cats for now.

Thanks again, CanbekEsen 18:46, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Feyenoord[edit]

Hoi. Wou even zeggen dat de Feijenoord artikel er nu veel beter uit ziet--die heb je echt goed herschreven en aangevuld. Well done! Razororz 22:31, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--Tsjipmanz 12:13, 24 January 2007 (UTC) Nice work, very large article now with lots of information, although it will be hard to keep the links up to date!![reply]

--Tsjipmanz 07:57, 25 January 2007 (UTC) What I meant is that you use dozens of external reference links as sources for statements. There might be some days that these links become 'dead links' and clicking on them will result in a 404[reply]

St Vincent[edit]

Je zei vandaag op Talk:List of sportspeople with dual nationality: "For some reason I can't get the St. Vincent & the Grenadines without an empty row for Dan Gadzuric, hopefully someone else sees what's going wrong there." AecisBravado 21:23, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Doornbos[edit]

AecisBravado 17:08, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Johnmford.JPG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Johnmford.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. These were uploaded by me before there were articles about these players. Feel free to delete them though, as they are replaceable fait use anyways, but I wasn't aware of that when uploading them. SportsAddicted | discuss 22:47, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rinus Michels[edit]

JACOPLANE • 2007-01-30 22:25
