Orphaned non-free image File:Nintendogs first 6.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Nintendogs first 6.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk 04:48, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi Skier Dude. Sorry I didn't see your message before the image was deleted. The image was orphaned because the page to which it was linked was vandalized. I've revertd the vandalistic edits on Nintendogs and replaced the deleted image. Struhs (talk) 18:57, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Nintendogs first 6.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Nintendogs first 6.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 18:46, 21 September 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Acather96 (talk) 18:46, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

This is my original work. I took care of the licensing info. Thanks. Struhs (talk) 19:07, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Amphibians and Reptiles assessment drive[edit]

At WikiProject Amphibians and Reptiles, in which you are listed as a member, we're working on a pretty massive backlog (1000+ articles!) of unassessed articles. We would appreciate it greatly if you would help assess the articles in the link. It's simple to do!

  1. Read over the article.
  2. On the discussion page, look for the {{AARTalk}} template. Add in a "class" and "importance" parameter if the template does not have them already. Example: {{AARTalk|class= |importance= }}
  3. For the class, fill in the article's quality using the WikiProject's quality scale: stub, start, C, B, GA, A, or FA. Most unassessed articles will probably be stubs or start class articles, and definitely B or lower.
  4. For the importance, fill in the article's importance to the WikiProject using the importance scale: low, mid, high, or top. Most unassessed articles will probably be low or mid importance.
  5. Then you're done!

It's not a difficult task, but there's a lot to get done. Our hope is that we can chip through the backlog and assess every article within the auspices of the project. Thanks, bibliomaniac15 00:31, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited Brad Hawpe, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Texas Rangers (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

ArbCom elections are now open![edit]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. December 2015[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm John from Idegon. I noticed that you made a change to an article, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you.

The above is in reference to Eaglecrest High School, where you readded a very trivial list of plays the school has performed. The purpose of an encyclopedia is to summarize what independent reliable sources have said about a subject. Although every factoid does not have to have a reference (unless it is challenged, and this is now challenged. See BURDEN), every fact must be able to be referenced per V. The theatre arts program in this school is so earthshatteringly important that newspapers and magazines are writing about it? Where will I find the books that have been written about these massively important works of the thespian arts? Simple fact is, in the United States, society as a whole doesn't give a darn about high school theatre. It is not our job to change society's perception of what's important, rather it is to report on what the world has endorsed as important by making note of it. Please understand that this is really only of interest to people already associated with and knowledgeable about this school. That is not who the article is written for. It is written for the whole English speaking world. I doubt anyone in Grand Junction would care what play this school performed when. I'll guarantee no one in London does. John from Idegon (talk) 15:48, 23 December 2015 (UTC)
Hi John from Idegon: You stated, "The purpose of an encyclopedia is to summarize what independent reliable sources have said about a subject." That is entirely inaccurate. That is describing an abstract or bibliographical summary. An encyclopedia is a comprehensive collection of information organized around a broad range of subjects. Furthermore, you indicate that in order to merit inclusion in Wikipedia, information given must be of “earthshattering importance” and that the “United States, society as a whole” must “give a darn”. Hardly. Asserting that the list of a high school’s theatrical works is trivial or ireelevant to anyone not associated with the school (e.g. in Grand Junction, London, or anywhere) is a reflection of your personal view of the subject matter rather than the correctness, completeness, or significance of the information. Whether the contents of an article are more interesting to one Wikipedia reader over another is irrelevant. The list is a reflection of the history of accomplishments in the institution, and it exists (and has for over 5 years with no prior assertion from any other Wikipedia editor to have it removed) relevant to itself - not subject to the caprice of those who would “allow” it based on their subjective determination of whether it is worth looking at. Struhs (talk) 19:47, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Eaglecrest High School. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. John from Idegon (talk) 19:45, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

Playing the "edit war" card when you are the one initiating unjustified deletions is a bit juvenile. You asked for a source, and I provided one. Please consider the weakness of the "just unencyclopedic" argument before you go about removing or editing article content. Simply because you believe an article should fit a certain mould or do not deem something to be relevant for your personal taste is not grounds for action. You could have just as easily initiated a dialogue rather than haphazardly cropping out large amounts of information. Also, points and arguments are more effectively made when you remain objective and do not assume to speak for everyone. I understand you believe you are right, but so do I, and therefore you should not presume to have control over an article or the actions of another editor. Struhs (talk) 20:51, 23 December 2015 (UTC)
