Copy and paste edits[edit]

Please don't copy and paste content from one article to another. If you do think it is absolutely necessary, then please indicate in the "Edit summary" where you are copying from and to. AlistairMcMillan (talk) 00:46, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Macintosh edit[edit]

I reverted your edit, since you should link to the disambiguation page for articles of the same name, not a completely different name. If Someone wanted a Macintosh apple and searched macintosh, they would never find it under the Mac disambig.--Terrillja talk 01:14, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

February 2009[edit]

Information.png Welcome to Wikipedia. The recent edit you made to GNU/Linux has been reverted, as it appears to introduce incorrect information. Please do not intentionally add incorrect information to articles; use the sandbox for testing. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. Thank you. -- Mentifisto 01:22, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your recent edits to Linux. Your attempts to rename the info box to GNU/Linux have been reverted. Calling Linux GNU/Linux is considered a minority position and pushing a Point of View on Wikipedia. If you read through Talk:Linux/Name you will see that there has been a large and longstanding consensus to call the Linux kernel-based operating system "Linux" and not "GNU/Linux". Due to the past debates and agreements reached this is unlikely to change in the near future and therefore any attempts to push a POV by changing references to "Linux" to "GNU/Linux" will be automatically reverted. - Ahunt (talk) 13:56, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Copy and paste edits 2[edit]

Please don't copy and paste content from one article to another. If you do think it is absolutely necessary, then please indicate in the "Edit summary" where you are copying from and to.

Please be careful, if you continue to ignore people's advice, someone might get the impression that you are just here to be disruptive. And that could result in your account being blocked. AlistairMcMillan (talk) 00:46, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Blanking messages that people leave for you on your Talk page, is another thing that looks bad. AlistairMcMillan (talk) 15:59, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

File copyright problem with File:Di-no license[edit]

File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Mac OS X Leopard Screenshot.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. AlistairMcMillan (talk) 08:01, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with File:Mac OS X Leopard Screenshot.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Mac OS X Leopard Screenshot.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Image copyright problem with File:Nextmailscreenshot.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Nextmailscreenshot.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Fair use rationale for File:VauxhallAmpera.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:VauxhallAmpera.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 17:22, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:GarageBand 08.png)[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading Image:GarageBand 08.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Radiant chains (talk) 00:07, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of MG Sports and Racing Europe[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

A tag has been placed on MG Sports and Racing Europe requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Your recent edits[edit]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button Button sig.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Replaceable fair use Image:VauxhallAmpera.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:VauxhallAmpera.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 09:14, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Improper move[edit]

Greetings, TG. Your move of Right- and left-hand traffic has been reverted, because it was made without discussion or consensus. It is seldom appropriate to move articles without first proposing your idea on the article's talk page and obtaining consensus to do so, particularly in a case such as this wherein the title you decided to change is the result of extended discussion and strong consensus (as can be seen by reviewing the archives of past discussion on Talk:Right- and left-hand traffic. Furthermore, despite your statement that your title change resulted in "better appearance of text", in fact your change was from a grammatical to an ungrammatical title. If you still feel the article title should be changed, start a discussion on the talk page. Thanks for editing coöperatively. —Scheinwerfermann T·C23:00, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Safarifiveonsnowleopard.png[edit]

Copyright-problem.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Safarifiveonsnowleopard.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. I've reverted your numbering scheme as there's long standing consensus against putting any numbers on these articles because there is no widely used system so whatever is used becomes original research. File permission problem with File:SarahBrownCosmo.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:SarahBrownCosmo.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy.
