NASCAR 08 edits

[edit]

Hello. I was reviewing the recent edit you made to the NASCAR 08 article. The edit user 69.148.169.160 made was correct, 24.160.194.11 had vandalized the article multiple times. Just informing you of a slight mistake. Mawfive 01:02, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just looked at the edit you are talking about, and yeah that happens sometimes. Between me opening the article and reverting the vandalism, this second user made an edit to the page. So both the legitimate edit and the vandalism were removed in the revert. Sorry for the confusion and have a great day. Trusilver 01:06, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!!! and What do I do?

[edit]

First, I wanted to say thanks for the little welcome page!

But then I have a question. Does someone copyedit an article and then someone proofreads it to double check? If so, I copyedited a few articles and I was wondering how I let people know that it's ready for proofreading?

Thanks, Skunkmaster 02:01, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.s. If you could reply on my talk page that would be great!

Hi vandalism?

[edit]

Hi I have recieved a message from you claimin i had made non-contructive edits to the ghosh page and had vandalised this. I fail to see why you belive I have done so. If you have the mechanism to sheck, you will quite clearly notice that prior to my edit the page is full of poorly spelled unintelligable babble which has no grammar or sentance construction whatsoever. The information is also simply not true, boastful and as such insulting.

I have repeatedly brought this situation up on the discussion page of the article and the person who is creating this situation is refusing to respond. AS such I have edited the article myself many times. All my edits have done is correct the informtaion and make it more understandable. I have saved my version on my computer and can send it to you. The persons information which I have altered is regularly put back up and you can see how apalling it is. At the least, if you dont like my edits please prevent such unintelligable babble from being put up onto this website. It is insulting to anybody with the surname ghosh, anybody who reads this articles and the owners of wikipedia.

Also please explain to me how I have vandalised the article whereas the other person who puts that rubbish up hasnt? 78.146.43.54 16:37, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You were warned for vandalism due to the personal attack you made in this [1] edit. If you have a problem with the article, fix it. There is no reason that you need to be rude to someone else to do so. Also, just because someone else didn't get caught vandalising an article, doesn't give you the right to vandalize it yourself. An Apology re. Apache

[edit]

Sorry that voicing my irritation led to a storm on the talk page. I am pleased with your recent edits on the article and would support seeking an improved ranking for the article, if you would like to pursue the idea. IMO, it is approaching the subjective "good" article, but recent sourcing standards can be quite rigorous. And the article would require quite a bit of effort to reach FA quality (which status even I appreciate). I have some of my sources to hand and will try (sigh) to produce some more exacting source information. So, we just have a week before the request expires? I'll have a little time around the 30th, maybe? Best wishes.......WBardwin 02:34, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No apology needed! I understand you frustration and I'm just trying to carve out a little bit of time to start working on it myself. I'm hoping Saturday I can get started on reading, I'm a step behind you on that and it will probably be Sunday before I can start paring up the article to its sources. I think the article looks pretty good as it is, I really thought it was closer to FA status. All of you that have worked on it have done a great job. Trusilver 02:37, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar

[edit]
The Barnstar of Diligence
Giving you this barnstar because you gave me a barnstar. And you have beaten me to many edits, using the rollback button. My rollback button does not work so I end up using the undo button. NHRHS2010 Talk 02:36, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, thank you very much! What browser and script are you using? I had the same problem as you when I was using Twinkle with Opera. I switch off to Mozilla when I'm RCP'ing and the problem goes away. Trusilver 02:39, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I use Internet Explorer 7. NHRHS2010 Talk 02:41, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Give Mozilla and Twinkle a shot some day, just to see how you like the combination. I can revert probably 50% faster with that combination than I did using undo on IE. I go a step further myself and (when I'm home anyway) use dual monitors. My main browser is in my left monitor and the vandal's talk page opens in my right monitor. It makes me faster because I'm never waiting for one of Twinkle's processes to finish, I just switch monitors and it will have resolved itself before I come back to a new task in that monitor. Trusilver 02:45, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I'll download Firefox, but not today since I need to go to bed because it's almost 11:00 PM (23:00) here. And starting this Friday, I will be going on a Wikibreak until August 13 since I will be going to South Korea. NHRHS2010 Talk 02:50, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was kind of skeptical about switching myself, I had gotten used to my way of working but someone (I think it was Riana?) told me about TW and I was so amazed at how fast it made me, I didn't look back. Good luck and have a safe trip next week! Trusilver 02:52, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, and good luck reverting vandalisms after I leave my computer in a few minutes. NHRHS2010 Talk 02:54, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Hey man. I just got into Twinkle, and I see that you have used it a lot more than me. I was hoping you could give me a little bit of advice. Anytime (everytime) I warn a user using the program, it adds their talk page to my watchlist. Do you have any advice on how to get those pages off of my watchlist, other than having click "unwatch" each time I warn? I appreciate any suggestions :). Jmlk17 03:06, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am kind of low tech when it comes to my watchlist... I don't use it. I keep an instance of notepad open that lists all of the articles that I am currently keeping an eye on. Therefore, the add to my watchlist thing actually helps me because it bolds articles on the recent changes that I've reverted vandalism on before. But if you are interested in getting rid of it, I'm almost positive that there's a setting you need to change in your monobook.js page. You might want to go to the TW discussion page to see if anyone there has run into that issue before, you can probably cut and paste their file to make it easy on you. I'm not totally sure, I feel no shame in admitting that when it comes to messing with my monobook page, I prefer people just to tell me what to do because I'm pretty much clueless at modifying it myself. Trusilver 03:10, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, excellent. I headed on over there, and I think I got it taken care off. I'm pretty low-tech on the high-tech stuff at times, so I have actually avoided monobook stuff until quite recently in my Wiki-career. But anywho, thanks for the advice! Those vandals are out in force tonight it seems. Jmlk17 03:19, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's bad tonight. I normally will send four or five to AIV in the course of a night. I currently have that many just casually waiting for you to block right at this moment. I'm sure I've sent twenty to AIV today. Trusilver 03:21, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Those bastards. I'm just sort of sitting here watching TV with my dad, and now I have to go block some vandals? Man! Lol, keep up the great work as usual man :). Jmlk17 03:23, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

What is a sockpuppet?Lord Sinestro 17:57, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A sockpuppet is a user name created by an existing user for the purpose of evading vandalism or making a false consensus in a wikipedia discussion. The user named that has created the sock puppets is referred to as the puppeteer. While there are a couple legitimate reasons for sockpuppets, they are generally discouraged. "Vandalism"

[edit]

The intent was not vandalism, see User_talk:80.255.202.34. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.255.202.34 (talk)

Whether the intent was vandalism or not, this edit here [2] shows you inserting a commercial spam link into the Pasties article. Please read WP:EL to understand why such links are considered inappropriate. You claim that you were preparing to remove it yourself when I did and seeing that you have no other history of vandalism, I'm going to remove the warning from your talk page. However, do not insert any more commercial links on articles. Have a good day. Trusilver 18:07, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unusual Adoption Request

[edit]

Hi! Im an English teacher in Toluca Mexico (west of Mexico City). My Advanced B classes will be contributing to Wikipedia as the focus of their English course for Fall 2007. I am looking for people who would like to mentor my students (who will be working in groups) as they do the following assignments: Edit and article (adding a citation), writing a stub with a citation, translating an English language article for Spanish Wikipedia and for the final project, writing a full article for English Wiki (they can expand on the stub mentioned previously). What I would like to do is put a list of "mentors/adopters" on my talk page as a kind of short cut for my students, who have limited time to get things done. The semester begings Aug 6, but the real Wikipedia work wont begin until the beginning of Sept. If you would like to add your name to my list, please go to my talk page and add it there, perhaps with a short introduction, if you like.

Thank you!

Vandal question

[edit]

Hello, I saw you made a warning at User talk:Ainone page. I saw User:MKPluto and User:CenturyRain uploaded several photos with the tag either GFDL-self or PD-self.

This photo, Image:Srirasmi.JPG, was claimed the ownership by CenturyRain last week. It was deleted few days ago. And now MKPluto uploaded the same photo again; that's interesting he/she 's the new owner. By the way, that photo can be found on the Internet though. --Manop - TH 04:09, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I found this photo in several places on the internet and I seriously doubt that user took the picture. My suggestion is you take this to an administrator who works with photo licensing - that's an area that I haven't really taken the time to familiarize myself with as much as I should. Search Oriented Architecture

[edit]
Thank you
\

The article about Search-Oriented Architecture contains a large section of an unrelated topic named Service-Oriented Architecture. I moved the misplaced content to the correct article in the Service Oriented Architecture section. To reiterate there is an article named Search-Oriented Architecture which is about the application of Search Engine technology to business information systems. This is completely different from Service-Oriented technology which is about abstracting business services for reuse across disparate system technology boundaries.

Thank you for taking the time to add your thoughts to the discussion at my recent Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Angus Lepper RfA, which failed, with no consensus to promote me. However, I appreciate the concerns raised during the course of the discussion (most notably, a lack of experience, particularly in admin-heavy areas such as XfDs and policy discussions) and will attempt to address these before possibly standing again in several months time. Mistaken revert

[edit]

Hi, I don't think you should have reverted this as vandalism. To me, it looks like a simple expression of an opinion. Granted, Talk:Main Page is the wrong place, but I still don't think that's reason to revert. Picaroon (Talk) 02:49, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trusilver 19:20, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just think it's pretty funny. I mean, I have had maybe two dozen comments or vandalisms like that on my talk and user pages. It tapered off after I protected my own user page, but I have seen some users with absurd amounts of vandalism on their user pages: couple hundred in some instances. Pretty fun :). Jmlk17 19:30, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
I'm awarding you this RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar for your great contributions to protecting and reverting attacks of vandalism on Wikipedia. You always beat me to reverting the vandalism! Wikidudeman (talk) 19:54, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much! I appreciate it. Oh... and you want to get very fast at reverting vandalism? Twinkle with dual monitors :) Trusilver 19:55, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What do you use? I use twinkle and Lupins vandalism filter. Wikidudeman (talk) 19:59, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have Twinkle, but I use it on dual monitors. I keep the vandalized article in my left monitor, and the vandal's talk page comes up in my right monitor. It means that I'm never waiting on Twinkle to complete a process - I just move to the other monitor and keep working while the Twinkle command processes. Trusilver 20:00, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You really use two monitors? Hmm. I'll have to stick with one. Do you use Lupins recent changes updater? Or Vandalfighter? Wikidudeman (talk) 20:05, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Neither, I just use Twinkle and my recent changes button. Trusilver 20:06, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
User:Lupin/Anti-vandal tool is a great tool to use. It monitors all recent changes and lists those that contain "bad words", words added to a list that the tool spots in recent edits. You just check the edits to make sure it's vandalism and then revert them. Wikidudeman (talk) 20:07, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll give it a try today and see how it works. Trusilver 20:09, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Take a look at my user scripts and use which ones you think might help, I've got some custom tools and buttons etc that are very helpful in vandal fighting, adding tags to pages, etc. Here User:Wikidudeman/monobook.js. Vandalism/Whos your caddy

Hello. You said I vandalized Who's Your Caddy..not true. I dont even know what "TW" is. And I do have a wikipedia account - User:Underage. I just wasnt logged in. Please tell me why you considered my edits to be vandalism, when everything I said was true...BTW I was 71.113.135.103 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.113.135.103 (talk)

If you have an account, then I am sure that you understand how and why we cite articles. I reverted you for your last sentence in this edit[3]. "Many are calling it a 'box office bomb.'" Using the word "many" without citing who the alledged "many" are is both POV and a weasel word. The correct way to have put this edit it would be to say who the notable person or publishing was who said this and then cite it. If you have any questions about how to do this, I would be happy to help you. Have a great day. Trusilver 18:41, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello thanks for response..i was referring to the people on the IMDB message boards calling it a box office bomb..but i dont think you should have automatically assumed i was a troll using a different IP address. oh well. i dont care..thanks anyways — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.113.135.103 (talk)

Reviews on IMDB.com are not written by credible and notable critics, thus they have no business in an article. It would be akcin to me writing on a message board that I'm God and then putting it in the article for God. If Larry King said it bombed, that's one thing. If ChrisM from Tulsa posts a review on IMDB that the movie bombed, then there's an issue. I will say that what you did was not clear cut vandalism due to the fact that there obviously was no malicious intent involved. However, still try to be more careful about what you discern to be "fact". Trusilver 04:03, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Limetolime

[edit]

Dear Trusilver, I really need some help. My cousin (as I have stated before) is sharing my account with me, and has gotten me blocked unfairly WAY to many times. I have told fim to stop, but he does not listen. Is there anyway I can block/change my password?Limetolime 21:42, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have referred this to the administrator noticeboard to look into the issue. Honestly, I have no way of knowing who you are aside from the fact that I just reverted vandalism on the last two articles you edited before sending this message. I have to assume that you are not Limetolime. I'm more than a little bit skeptical that someone who has been around as long as you/he has does not know how to change a password. Therefore I'm handing this off to an admin who can delve into it and possibly do a checkuser to see if your edits are coming from multiple IP addresses. Trusilver 22:04, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, But I've (believe it or not) have never really cared and have not done anything to my prefernces page. Im've never used it, and besides, I've only been on wikipedia for a few months.

Sorry! You won't need an administrator for this issue.Limetolime 22:09, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I certainly hope you are who you claim to be, I've seen people get screwed when their accounts are compromised before - I hate to see it happen again. Good Luck with this mess. Trusilver 22:13, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This isn't the first time this has happened - I warned Limetolime or his cousin about malicious redirects and edits of a similar nature back in June. Activity then settled back down to normal edits. I thought it was odd at the time [4] see last comment; Kuru later blocked the account for a while. Acroterion (talk) 01:31, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I noticed that as I looked more deeply into it today. He has been blocked indefinitely, with the hopes that whomever the real Limetolime is will sort everything out and explain on his talk page. Trusilver 01:39, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

user talk:24.182.112.216 and User talk:Mercedes1 have done weird experimentation on all the Klein school pages, you referred to the edits on Klein Forest as vandalism and I'm wondering if you or I should revert the edits on the other schools. Since it seems like this user is making it his "project". If you would like to handle it, by all means please do, I am feeling really tired at the moment and was preparing to turn off PC when I noticed it on all the other Klein high school pages.--Taruru 06:06, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I'm looking into it. Trusilver 06:11, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I must say your vandal fighting is of amazing proportions. Since you have so many anti-vandal stars, I believe its about time your received this:

New Subject

[edit]

I know this goes against wikipedia but i made a bet with a friend this guy 64.191.93.101 would change address after he was blocked twice so I tracked him down. I am 100% sure he is unfreeride he contributes to the same pages as you can see from his old IP address of 71.175.32.77 which is same area and this new address started contributing shortly after he was blocked the second time. He originally came to my attention when he continually added OR to human height and pushed POV that northern chinese are the superior race and as many people were offended by him he called us sockpuppets. Also 71.185.237.63 is him now.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Googen (talkcontribs)

I'm terribly sorry, but I'm not entirely sure what it is you are asking of me. Could you direct me to specifici articles that this is taking place in? Trusilver 17:53, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I've been monitoring the IP addresses and their edits and my position is that these people are making good faith edits that they feel are correct. That makes this a content dispute rather than vandalism. In this case, the best tool you have to keep it from getting out of hand is WP:3RR. Trusilver 18:33, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

16!!!

[edit]

Hey! I got vandalized! Twice! First time in months actually lol. I am at 16 now :-P. Jmlk17 06:18, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You got hit more than that. Somebody was out for you, Oxy and myself. I got hit 7 times in five minutes. I'm protected right now. I think I will leave it that way until tommorow. Trusilver 06:19, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and I just hit 101, I want my damn steak knives. :) Trusilver 06:21, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, you're right...18 for me now. I just had to listen to you and unprotect it :). Back to protection! Someone was pissed at us though. Good times. Jmlk17 06:25, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, if you want your page protected or unprotected at any time... you know where to ask :). Jmlk17 06:25, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User page semi-protected

[edit]

Hello there! I've semi-protected your user page, as it's been getting a lot of anonymous vandalism. I didn't set an expiration time, as it doesn't affect your ability to edit the page. If you want the protection changed or lifted at any time, just leave me a message. Happy editing! --Slowking Man 06:20, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thank you very much. Trusilver 06:21, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Guitar

[edit]

Hi, noticed your quick edit on guitar article. On different matter might you please help me by restoring format of text, it changes half the way down that article - right hand margin is all askew. RichardJ Christie 06:52, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's possible it might be your browser, or someone else has already fixed it. The margin looks correct to me. Trusilver 06:54, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please confirm, there is a greymargin on rt hand side, text to left of it. Half way down page, after construcional list the text starts to intrude into the grey area. RichardJ Christie 06:58, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've gone over it three times, I'm not seeing anything that is out of format. Trusilver 07:01, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your support in my Request for Adminship. Unfortunately the nomination did not succeed, but please rest assured that I am still in full support of the Wikipedia project, and I'll try again in a few months! If you ever have any questions or suggestions for me, please don't hesitate to contact me. Best wishes, --Elonka 04:20, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
