[edit]Help:Cite errors/Cite error ref no input
[edit]2015- 2017 Shelby GTE
1) Please remove: "There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page)". 2) Please remove: "jpg 4191" and "jpg 4193" from below the paragraph; I cannot figure out how to insert these pictures(my pics) into the section. Thx, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nascarbilly (talk • contribs) 14 September 2018 04:17 (UTC)
- @Nascarbilly: Done. Images are best uploaded to Wiki commons (contributions at top of any page > uploads > commons). If you are logged in, you should find your account available there. The upload wizard will guide you through the process and licensing. A preformatted link will then be available to use on Wiki pages Please provide a link when posting questions on talk pages. Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (

). Thankyou. Eagleash (talk) 05:10, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

Most viewed Wikipedia pages within a subject
[edit]Is there a way to see the most Wikipedia pages within a certain subject? For example, can I see the most viewed pages relating to electronic musical instruments? This would help me decide which articles to work on next, as I'd like to prioritise based on how widely read a page is. Popcornduff (talk) 06:43, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- You could look for instruments at Wikipedia:WikiProject Electronic music/Popular pages. Many other WikiProjects are at Category:Lists of popular pages by WikiProject but not Wikipedia:WikiProject Musical Instruments. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:38, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
How to write a malayalam review on an English movie?
[edit]I wish to write a movie review on an English movie ("On Chisel Beach") in Malayalam. Is it possible? If so, how to write it and link to the English webpage.
I'm new to Wikipedia editing. Please help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rohini vasanth (talk • contribs) 08:06, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It is not a place to write film reviews, but there are movie websites that welcome reviews (though I wouldn't know about Malayalam ones). Do you mean On Chesil Beach? You will find it much easier if you start by typing in the correct title.--Shantavira|feed me 10:50, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Rohini vasanth: The Wikipedias in different languages are different projects, each with possibly different rules. Here at the English-language Wikipedia, we call our entries "articles", not reviews, and they must be written in English. I suspect that the Malayalam Wikipedia accepts articles (or whatever they call them) in Malayalam. You should probably go over to their help desk for further assistance. -Arch dude (talk) 01:51, 15 September 2018 (UTC)
Where to get help with an iniative?
[edit]There is a query on WMF Quarry - https://quarry.wmflabs.org/query/29651 that is being used to track files where the source wasn't recognised.
It's currently got a back-log of 20,000 images. It would be nice to reduce it to zero, preferably before the EU copyright changes come into force.
Where would be the best place to get a mass effort started to really "clean" Wikipedia in copyright terms? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 09:50, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
Ref number one is in red. please fix. sorry 175.33.45.21 (talk) 11:55, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- Simply follow the help link from the error message. Help:CS1 errors#bad date reminds you about capitalisation and "14 september 2018" is obviously wroong. --David Biddulph (talk) 11:59, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
Twinkle won't let me welcome IP
[edit]I was trying to welcome the IP on their talk page User talk:2804:14D:8082:850B:2468:C7B:940B:879A, but it keeps failing and giving me this message in orange User talk page modification: Failed to save edit: The title "User talk:2804:14D:8082:850B:2468:C7B:940B:879A" has been banned from creation. It matches the following blacklist entry: " .*8.*4.*4.*[0O].*8.*2.*8.*2.*4.*[0O].* # as above"
. All of which, of course, is Greek to me. Why is a talk page, of all things, on a blacklist? Thanks, L3X1 ◊distænt write◊ 14:16, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- The IP address happens to contain digits in phone number used in spamming. I have used my admin account to create the page. Others can edit it now. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:24, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

Copyright issue help please
[edit]Aware of the June 26 2018 question and of WP:ELNO, WP:ELNEVER and WP:YOUTUBE policies, I'd like to ask your input on whether this YouTube link is a copyright violation. It is for this edit in the Mikhail Gorbachev article, so that everybody may judge the published words for themselves. My add was undone with the comment "please no personal youtube channels", but I'd argue it's WP:Reliable source. The television interview was broadcast in 2007 on DR2 Danish public television. The broadcaster maintains a public archive of its shows only up to 2010. Also, the reference is found here on the Danish Wikipedia. Thanks. Wakari07 (talk) 16:30, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- It's a personal youtube channel. It's unreliable, and it would be akin to furthering a copyright violation, if one were to place the link here on Wikipedia. Lourdes 17:19, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- I've removed the link here per WP:ELNEVER. Linking to a violation of copyright is considered similar to putting a copyvio on wikipedia. You can cite the broadcast itself but not the video since the video being on a personal youtube channel is unreliable Galobtter (pingó mió) 17:23, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- I don't understand. But thanks for the answer anyway and nevermind, since I found a written secondary source that will get the article rid of an ugly dead link. Wakari07 (talk) 18:03, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- Well done Wakari07. To your statement of "I don't understand", what Galobtter is saying is that the moment you link a youtube site of an individual who has blatantly posted a copyright violation on their youtube channel (in this case, an interview programme), you promote the said copyright violation. A dead link (what Galobtter meant with the statement "you can cite the broadcast itself") is more preferable to a link that hosts a copyright violation. It doesn't matter if a link is dead (read WP:KDL); it still contains the relevant citation details for anyone interested in chacking. Hope this is clearer. Lourdes 05:56, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

Odd VE template
[edit]Just a quickie, but can someone have a quick look at this article sectin, and see why the text is in a template or something? Basically, just open the section n visual edit and try and edit. Hope you can help! Many thanks in advance! —SerialNumber54129 paranoia /cheap sh*t room 17:39, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- Looks like somone managed to add the text to all the {sfn} they used to support it. Off the top of my head I know EEng knows about it, but I don't know of anyone else. Thanks, L3X1 ◊distænt write◊ 18:06, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks, L3X1, I have no idea what that is :) I managed to sort it, it was a matter of placing the bloody quote box on a separate line. Unbelievable. Many thanks to you and @Primefac: whom I also soaw fiddling with it. cheers! —SerialNumber54129 paranoia /cheap sh*t room 18:41, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
Adding a footnote to an article on Relevant Wikipedia Pages
[edit]Hello,
I am currently a research assistant for a professor who recently wrote a couple of articles that would be relevant to multiple Wikipedia pages. I recently tried inserting a link to the article on a few pages, but all my inserts were rejected and removed from the pages. I tried reading through the requirements for following Wikipedia's editing criteria, but I'm not sure why my inserts were rejected because the inserts were not to promote my professor's article, but to provide more information for readers. Could someone clarify what the rules/restrictions are for posting a link to this article on Wikipedia pages?
Thank you.

- Special:Contributions/Jason.Jay7 shows no previous edits. We can't explain why your edits were reverted without knowing what they were. Can you give us a link to the edits in question, or to the account from which you made them? --David Biddulph (talk) 18:23, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
How to create page to a public figure I represent ?
[edit]Please advise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iamonmekahel (talk • contribs) 21:18, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- The first thing you need to do is to read about conflict of interest, and then make the mandatory declaration of paid editing. If you then decide to continue, you'd need to read the advice at WP:Your first article. --David Biddulph (talk) 21:32, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
Editing my own page
[edit]My own Wikipedia page is totally out of date. I want to delete much of the content. However when I try to do this I am blocked. How do I delete content from my own page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:E000:8416:8900:995B:916B:4333:13B3 (talk) 22:37, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- Hello, anonymous user who says they are Toben Seymour. I think you have been treated a little harshly, since you evidently don't know how Wikipedia works, and much of the material you deleted probably should be deleted, but for a different reason: because it is unsourced. I am going to assume you are who you say you are in my answer (but please be aware that we have no way of knowing that, which is part of the problem). First, Toben Seymour is not "your own Wikipedia page": it is Wikipedia's article about you, and you do not own it or have any control over its contents. You are, however, welcome to suggest changes on the article's talk page, preferably with citations of published sources for any information you wish to be included: then an uninvolved editor will decide what changes are appropriate, according to Wikipedia's rules. Please see WP:AUTOPROB for more information about this.
- But the second problem is that Toben Seymour is very unsatisfactory at present, and breaks the rules for a biography of a living person, because it contains no references. As it stands, it is liable to be deleted, because it does not establish that Seymour is notable in the special sense that Wikipedia uses that word. What would really help is if you could cite (on the article's talk page) several places where people who have no connection with you (or your friends, employers, or associates) have chosen to publish about you at some length. Only with several such pieces of writing can an acceptable article be written. --ColinFine (talk) 23:08, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- Hello IP. While another editor Arch dude has proposed the article for deletion, I along with one other editor have deleted much of the unsourced contents of the article. Thanks, Lourdes 06:09, 15 September 2018 (UTC)
Joe Sola
[edit]Hello! I had created an article on a LA-based artist, Joe Sola, and was checking back in to see if it has been made public. How long does this process usually take for a contribution to be reviewed and then made public? - Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexbuko (talk • contribs) 23:27, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- User:Alexbuko - Draft:Joe Sola is waiting for review. The review process is backlogged and may take as long as two months. When it is reviewed, you will be notified that it has been reviewed. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:35, 15 September 2018 (UTC)
