Template:PlayStation 3 sales (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Currently in 4 articles. Usage of this template is limited and seems unnecessarily complicated. Why are editors forced to read template documentation just to change a sales figure? In PlayStation its being used as "a substitute for usual article content." (WP:TMP) « Ryūkotsusei » 21:35, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. This template avoids the problem of out-of-sync numbers, which tend to show up when editors unfamiliar with the "family" of articles update one of them. Such errors look very bad, and in my opinion this use of templates should be encouraged for many other temporally changing facts. (The correctness of the information in this particular template is not part of this discussion)

Changing the template could possibly be easier, though half of it is plain inline text/mediawiki in the template, and the other has a simple, prominent section in the template documentation labelled "Changing the data".

As I understand it, "substitute for usual article content" refers to articles consisting solely of transcluded/templated content, which thus add nothing to the project. This template is (only) used in articles of significant length, and adds a single sentence. Eroen (talk) 22:18, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • (edit conflict) The purpose of the template is so that the sales numbers, which Sony updates every 3 months, can be updated in a single edit, rather than having to change each instance separately. Given how often the figure is used (at least 9 times) it makes sense, at least to me, to have a way to update all of them at once. If there is a usability problem, I'm sure the template can be simplified somehow. There may well be a better way of doing this, but I'm not aware of one. (Maybe a bot of some kind, although I suspect that would be harder still for most editors utilise.) Currently it is set up to only properly use Sony's official figures, but (assuming it isn't deleted) I do plan on expanding it to allow for press releases and other sources (similar to how it currently displays the IDC figure), so if that is what was meant by limited then that shouldn't be an issue.

^† It is used twice in both PlayStation and PlayStation 3 and three times in list of best-selling video game consoles. Additionally, it was, and is again now, used on Console wars; someone disagreed with IDC's figure being called an estimate on the page and simply replaced it.

Perhaps a better question would be if this template is acceptable practice? I wouldn't want this replicated just for it to be deleted. « Ryūkotsusei » 23:46, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep on the basis of such templates as {{Numrec}} and {{UNnum}} which serve a similar purpose, and because this information is apparently useful. — This, that and the other (talk) 03:21, 25 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep based on above discussion. -PC-XT (talk) 00:49, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep temporarily: I can actually see this information being stored on WP:WDATA and then referenced as necessary. --Izno (talk) 18:10, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    That's a good point actually. I assume that'd come under WP:WDATA#Infoboxes (Phase 2) right?. Alphathon /'æɫ.fə.θɒn(talk) 19:39, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It would be for phase 2 yes, but due to the conservatism there, I'm not sure which information will become attributes for data there and which won't be. So the "Keep" for me is really more of a "wait and see what Wikidata does" than it is a "I think this template should be kept/deleted". --Izno (talk) 19:43, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template:EA Sports NCAA Football series cover athletes (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Underlying "award," i.e. being featured on the cover of a college football video game box, is a dubious "honor" of doubtful notability per WP:GNG. Navbox itself is of limited navigational utility, and contributes to bottom-of-the-page navbox clutter, detracting from those navboxes for actual championships, awards and honors. Not everything needs a navbox, and drawing the line at video game covers for athletes is a good place to start. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 19:58, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. Limiting award navboxes to those for awards of national or worldly prominence is a good idea to manage clutter and prevent the dilution of the project's integrity. This navbox does not make the cut there. Jweiss11 (talk) 23:08, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Delete. What's next, navboxes for the cover athletes of each Sports Illustrated issue? My concern here is what an inexperienced might think is appropriate for navbox creation. Delete this before someone creates a litany of useless navboxes. Jrcla2 (talk) 19:49, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Infobox religious building2 (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Fork of Template:Infobox religious building that is currently only used on 5 pages. Based on the page history, it appears that it was only created so it could display Australian English spelling. There are various other ways to display different national varieties English spellings than creating a fork template, such a a different parameter, parameters alias, or several parserfunctions Zzyzx11 (talk) 16:51, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The fork's hard-coded affiliation to Judaism and elimination of founder and funding would not work in the main template, so the only changes to consider with the new option would be spelling organizational status as organisational status and No. as the # sign in several places. - PC-XT (talk) 04:48, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Sabrina Washington (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Nothing here that warrants a navbox for this artist. Don't see the need to connect/link the reality show she was on with the group she was in. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 06:03, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Americanfootballbox small (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

this fork of {{Americanfootballbox}} was only being used in about three articles, so I added a |small=y option to {{Americanfootballbox}}, which now makes this fork obsolete. Frietjes (talk) 00:03, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
