Use of "Guru"
I came across I the article on Guru Nanak Dev while editing Gatka. The manual of style says titles should only be used if they are the best known name of historic persons and I am not sure if Guru Nanak, and the others mentioned, fall into this category or not. Commonly in the martial arts articles titles are used by people trying to promote themselves, or students who would use it as a formal method of address, so I delete them straight off, but this seems a little more involved so I thought it best to ask. --Nate1481 10:29, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Sikh Diaspora
Hi. I recently came across the Sikh Diaspora article, and as I was reading the article, it is lacking many sources and has lots of unsourced paragraphs. In fact, the entire intro right now is unsourced. That alone could get rid of it's good article ranking. Also, I wish to bring up on how also, the article also makes it seem like that every single Sikh wants Khalistan. Though i know for a fact that those who want Khalistan are a small minority, and it's unsourced. And I believe there is synthesis happening also. For example
As globalisation progresses and India's & Punjab's economy continues to expand [21] , the question is whether the Sikh diaspora's focus will shift from inward-looking identity and Khalistan issues to outword-looking global trade and homeland investment like the successful Jewish and Chinese diasporas.
and yet, the source for that is [1], and it doesn't mention any of that. Can any member of the Sikh wikiproject fix this so it doesn't lose it's good article status. Deavenger (talk) 23:32, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Coordinators' working group
Hi! Somebody more knowledgeable should have a look at the contributions of User:Panthkhalsa -- the user is making several unsourced changes to Sikhism-related articles -- I'm not sure if these are correct. Few of the changes:

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). Adding Sikh scriptures to wiki source
May I suggest that scholars on Sikhism, may add Japji Sahib and other Banis to wikisource, so that larger audience has an easy access to these scriptures. Also wikisource:Guru Granth Sahib needs attention as it is presently incomplete there. Thanks! --Ekabhishek (talk) 13:03, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Peshawar under Maharaja Ranjit Singh
Hi, I was going through the article Peshawar, and it portrays Maharaja Ranjit Singh & Sikh rule in very bad light, that he was a tyrannical ruler who broke all mosques & made them gurdwaras, and that the city was plundered/declined under Sikh rule! I was pretty surprised, I also noticed that the article has not been categorized under the list of sikh places, nor has Bala Hisar Fort... so i categorized them as places of importance in sikhhism, and I request any sikh history expert to go through those two articles, I found it pretty biased, it only speaks of the pashtun heritage and ignores the existence of sikh population, as though only the rulers were tyrannical sikhs! perhaps Ranjit Singhji did break down some mosques, but we need some background/justification behind it instead of portraying him as a religious bigot! but I dont have the requisite knowledge to make changes in the article! Sikh extremism - a problematic article, new problem.
A new section has been added concerning the current events in Austria and India.
I have killed the addition, as I don't see wp:relevance. This article seems to be used as a wp:coatrack to hang anything negative regarding Sikhism or Sikhs, and I have worked to prevent that. If this addition belongs and I am just missing the point, I would love to know... and if it simply doesn't belong (and I am very sure it does not), I will need other editors to kill it. Sikh Extremism#Attack on Sikh preachers sparks riots is the section I think needs to go. It was originally longer, repetitive, and had other problems besides not belonging. I request that interested editors give it a bit of attention.
Further, I wonder if the entire article should be merged into Sikhism or possibly Religious violence or possibly Khalistan.

Photo request
I'm renewing an old request that was posted last year but overlooked:
Surely with all the Sikhs we have on Wikipedia, someone can provide better photos for Kesh than the current one. Yes, it's made by the US federal government so it's free, but a) it only shows head coverings, not hair, and b) the image makes Sikhs look like terrorists on a wanted poster, which is certainly not what we want. We received complaints at Talk:Main Page#Guru Nanak Jayanti: 2 Nov : On this day... (permanent link) about the lack of Guru Nanak Jayanti on WP:OTD. One of the issues which came up in the discussion is the problems of the article making editors reluctant to include it on WP:OTD since it would give readers a poor impression of wikipedia and may mislead editors about the event or not provide the info they need to understand it. While it's likely too late to include it this year, it would be helpful if it could be improved so this problem won't arise next year. At the very least, providing more inline referencing and information on the dates would be helpful. Also I assessed the article as High importance based on the claims in the discussion that it is one of the most important festivals in Sikhism. Nil Einne (talk) 14:52, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
Importance
As mentioned above, I gave high importance to Guru Nanak Jayanti given the claims it is one of the most important festivals in Sikhism. I also noticed that Guru Nanak Dev and Guru Granth Sahib were high importance. Considering they are on the WP1.0 list and mentioned in the main WikiProject page and that Guru Nanak Dev is the first guru and therefore founder of Sikhism and that Guru Granth Sahib is the last/current guru and sacred text/holy scripture of Sikhism, I raised the articles to top importance for WikiProject sikhism. I noticed Guru Tegh Bahadur (which isn't on the WP1.0 list) and Guru Gobind Singh (which is) are also in top importance. My guess would be that all the 11 Gurus belong in top importance but I wasn't sure so let it be for the rest. Nil Einne (talk) 14:52, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
