Nice to see you back creating new articles! I enjoyed your latest one.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 13:40, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Isabella

[edit]

Could she have been from Armenia? I don't know why that place popped into my head.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 17:37, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have just been checking. Could the Isabelle/Isabella you are thinking of be Isabelle of Toron, consort of Ruben III, Prince of Armenia?--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 17:43, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Why not go over to Medieval Lands' Ibelin section and look up all the Isabelles/Isabellas connected by blood or marriage to the Ibelin family. I notice there are quite a few who just might be the heiress you are seeking.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 06:39, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Nice article you created on Isabella of Toron.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 05:49, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Isabel Stuart

[edit]

Nice new article, David. You managed to add quite a bit of info to Isabel's page considering she died at four years of age. Good show!!--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 18:59, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Richeza of Denmark, Lady of Werle

[edit]

Hey can you create an article for Richeza of Denmark, Lady of Werle, the daughter of Eric V and ancestress of the House of Oldenburg.--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 02:51, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll have a look but only if I can find some actual info on her, my days of creating articles for people just because they were related to someone well known are done now, hate a lot of the stubs I've created in the past looking back--David (talk) 07:42, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
David, I had a look around the Internet and honestly cannot find anything on her indicating her own notability apart from being the daughter of King Erik V and an ancestress of the House of Oldenburg (one of many). Her sister, Martha of Denmark has her own article but she was a Swedish queen consort and a politically-influential one at that. As a Lady of Werle whose husband has but a brief article, Richeza really doesn't merit her own page, I'm afraid. It would be just a stub repeating the same info already found on her father's and husband's articles.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 08:45, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Jeanne, I had a look myself Medieval Lands basically gives her name, husband's name, date of marriage, they had a papal dispensation and then number of children so it wouldn't be up to much anyway sorry QE2LS. I'm looking into the two wives of Hugh, Count of Brienne at the moment, our previously discussed Isabella de la Roche and his second wife Helena Komnena, Helena was married twice and was regent for her son from her first marriage and she had some political dealings so she should be interesting. With Isabella her inheritance of Thebes was disputed so she only received half, so there's some stuff there too--David (talk) 10:08, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly. Those women are notable. Richeza can be adequately described in her husband's article.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 12:41, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe he has one Jeanne, that's something else to look into --David (talk) 18:19, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Too bad. I kind of frustrated that no one seems to see any significance in her or the fact that she is the closest link Christian I had to the House of Estridsen. I wonder if the Danish even knew that Christian was a descendant of Richeza when they elected him as king. Would you be willing to create other articles if I can find one that is notable and uncreated? Do mind if I give you a list later on and you can glance over them.--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 18:09, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also if you haven't read my tip/warning. There is a guy by the name of User:Fladrif going around removing sources and one of them was the Medieval Lands site, saying it was unreliable. My effort and time put into sourcing the List of Norwegian monarchs and List of Danish monarchs went down the drain because of him. So you should probably look out when he or others like him get around to some of the articles you've created.--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 18:09, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Of course I'll have a look, I'll start doing more articles this time tomorrow, I've come across quite a few I want to do myself:
  • Isabelle de Sabran
  • Margaret of Villehardouin
  • Helena Angelina Comnena
  • Peter of Aragon-Gandia
As well as a few others, but I'm going to dedicate some time to here so you can give me a list. And I use the sources Medieval Lands uses now, if any of my articles get "vandalized" as that's what I consider it, I'll add further references but thanks for the heads up--David (talk) 18:16, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I made a kind of list at User:Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy/Sandbox/Translation Needed. There is a lot of stuff on the Spanish Wikipedia.

One more thing. Are you in the least bit interested in creating any of the Georgian queens. There is very little historical information on any of them though. I might check if any of the other language wikipedia has anything about the more famous ones. --Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 22:36, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mariam Dadiani seems to be a famous Georgian queen.--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 23:13, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I know very little on Georgian history however, I'll if I familiarize myself with the dynasties I'll probably be able to do something...I need to be able to understand the information that's being translated--David (talk) 23:22, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There is no need to actually translate the entire article.--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 06:44, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Medieval Lands

[edit]

Hi David, sorry for not replying to your earlier post but I was away for two months at the beach with limited access to a public computer. Seeing as Medieval Lands has been deemed an unrelable source, this is going to put a severe restriction on our creation of new articles on medieval noblewomen. It's all so stupid and counter-productive as it remins the only website using primary sources.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 07:28, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, hope you had a nice holiday Jeanne! I know my watchlist has been messed up by it plus it's the reason why I haven't been on much. It's annoying as there's very few other places where we can get information from, the only other one I can think of is "Women In Power" but I don't believe that cites any sources of its' own. It was only a matter of time before this would happen, I know there's been a few editors who wanted references to Lands removed altogether! We'll find some way around it --David (talk) 12:14, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Let me butt in here. The footnotes on the Medieval Lands site with the source/primary source material used by Cawley could be used to cite the articles directly. Hope this suggestion is helpful.--The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 05:29, 18 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, at least not all is lost! Thank you for pointing this out.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 07:08, 18 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dangereuse de l'Isle Bouchard

[edit]

I undid the reference to Ermengarde, the alleged 'first wife' of William IX of Aquitaine who supposedly set out to avenge his second wife, Philippa of Toulouse, since it has been well-established in recent years that this is false, as proven by two very reputable medieval scholars; Ruth Harvey's 1993 critical investigation shows the assumption of William's marriage to Ermengarde to be based largely on an error in a nineteenth-century secondary source and it is highly likely that Philippa of Toulouse was William's one and only wife. Secondly, Prof. Marc Wolterbeek's, "Inventing History, Inventing Her Story: The Case of William of Aquitaine’s Marital Affairs,” published by the Medieval Association of the Pacific, University of California, Berkeley, in March, 1995 (and given as a paper which I personally attended at the International Medieval Congress in Leeds, England, in July of 1995) provided exhaustive evidence to show the claim that William was married to "Hermingerda", daughter of Fulk IV of Anjou to be based on the very unreliable chronicle of William of Tyre, written sometime between 1169 and 1187, more than 70 years after the events in question would have taken place. Tyre himself was hostile to the duke's family, and such medieval chronicles serve more use as examples of political propaganda of the day rather than as objective historical sources. Further, Tyre erroneously identifies Ermengarde's mother as Bertrade of Montfort, the sister of Amalricus de Montfort, when her mother was in fact Audearde or Hildegarde of Beaugency. Tyre's chronicle lacks any contemporary corroboration, and no primary text ever mentions a marriage between William and Ermengarde. It is not only highly improbable that William married Ermengarde, it is likely that Ermengarde - at least as a wife of William - ever existed at all. References, therefore, to William's 'first wife, Ermengarde' are erroneous and, in my opinion, don't serve to promote current standards of historical research. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nonnythemouse (talkcontribs) 00:29, 25 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Poland Newsletter • January 2014 • Issue II

[edit]
WikiProject Poland Newsletter • January 2014 • Issue II
For our freedom and yours

Welcome to the second issue of WikiProject Poland newsletter, the Monitor (named after the first Polish newspaper).

Our Project has been operational since 1 June, 2005, and also serves as the Poland-related Wikipedia notice board. I highly recommend watchlisting the Wikipedia:WikiProject Poland page, so you can be aware of the ongoing discussions. We hope you will join us in them, if you haven't done so already! Unlike many other WikiProjects, we are quite active; we get close to a hundred discussion threads each year and we do a pretty good job at answering all issues raised. Last year we were featured in the Signpost, and our interviewer was amazed at our activity. In the end, however, even as active as we are, we are just a tiny group - you can easily become one of our core members!

In addition to a lively encyclopedic, Poland-related, English-language discussion forum, we have numerous useful tools that can be of use to you - and that you could help us maintain and develop:

  • we have an active assessment department. As of now, our project has tagged almost 83,000 pages as Poland-related - that's an improvement of over 3,000 new pages since the last newsletter. Out of which 30 still need a quality assessment, and 2,000, importance assessment. We have done a lot to clear the backlog here (3 years ago those numbers were 1,500 and 20,000, respectively). Can you help assess a few pages?
    • assessing articles is as easy as filling in the class= and importance= parameters on the talk page in the {{WPPOLAND|class=|importance=}} template. See here for a how-to guide.
  • once an article has an assessment template, it will appear in our article alerts and news feed, which provides information on which Poland-related articles are considered for deletion, move, or are undergoing a Good or Featured review. Watchlisting that feed, in addition to watchlisting our project's main page, is a good way to make sure you stay up to date on most Poland-related discussions.
  • you can also see detailed deletion discussions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Poland (which is a good place to watchlist if you just want to stay up to date on possible deletions of Poland-related content)
  • we have also begun B-class quality reviews on our talk page, and if our activity increases, hopefully we will be able to institute our own A-class quality reviews. As of now, we have about 500 C-class articles in need of a B-class review. If you'd like to help with them, instructions for doing B-class reviews are to be found in point 10 of our assessment FAQ. In addition to this automated list, you are also encouraged to help review articles from our B-class reviews requested list found here.
  • also, those articles will be included in our cleanup listing, which allows us to see which top-importance articles are in need for attention, and so on. We have tens of thousands articles in need of cleanup there, so if you ever need something to do, just look at this gigantic list. (I am currently reviewing the articles tagged with notability, either proving them notable or nominating for deletion; there are still several dozens left if you want to help!).
  • did you know that newly created Poland-related articles are listed here. They need to be reviewed, often cleaned-up, occasionally nominated for deletion, and their creators may need to be welcomed and invited to our project if they show promise as new authors of Poland-related content.
  • we are maintaining a Portal:Poland
  • automated Wikipedia:WikiProject Poland/Popular pages lists the most popular Poland-related pages from the previous month(s)
  • Breaking news: we are looking for a Wikipedian in Residence for the New York City area. See Wikipedia:GLAM/Józef Piłsudski Institute of America for details.

This is not all; on our page you can find a list of useful templates (including userboxes), awards and other tools!

With all that said, how about you join our discussions at WT:POLAND? Surely, there must be something you could help others with, or perhaps you are in need of assistance yourself?

It took me three years to finish this issue. Feel free to help out getting the next one before 2017 by being more active in WikiProject management :)

Catalan culture Challenge

[edit]

Hello! I've seen that you are one of the main editors of the Violant of Hungary article and I just want to inform you that the article is featured at the the Catalan Culture Challenge, a Wikipedia editing contest in which victory will go to those who start and improve the greatest number of articles about 50 key figures of Catalan culture. It goes from March 16 to April 15. You can take part by creating or expanding articles on these people in your native language (or any other one you speak). It would be lovely to have you on board. :-) Amical Wikimedia --Kippelboy (talk) 07:37, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 03:02, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination of Isabella of Aragon, Duchess of Milan

[edit]

Hello! Your submission of Isabella of Aragon, Duchess of Milan at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! BlueMoonset (talk) 21:40, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Daaviiid, this excellent article was regrettably nominated far too late to qualify for DYK. The 5× expansion needs to have taken place in the seven days prior to nomination. In this case, if you had nominated the article after you finished the initial days of expansion on November 11, it would have qualified for DYK; nominating in late December is far too late. I would like to urge you to renominate the article should it ever become a Good Article via the GA nomination process, and also to consider nominating your next article at DYK right after expansion. Indeed, if the seven-day period is running out and the expansion isn't quite done, you can nominate after seven days while you're still working on finishing off the expansion. Thank you for submitting the article to DYK, and I hope we see you back there soon. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:40, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
