"In extreme cases, a hard strike to the testicles can cause one or both testicles to rupture, potentially sterilizing or even killing the victim." I'd argue that death only occurs indirectly and not as a direct result of the groin attack. For example extreme pain can trigger circulatory shock (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shock_(circulatory). However I am no professional and this article is in dire need of one. Concerning male vs female vulnerability in the groin area: it is hard to verify which is true, but people often state that the female groin area has more nerve endings. Whether this is true or not, I very much doubt that the amount of nerve endings is the only criteria that determines how much pain a blow to a certain area would inflict. A bit of research shows that the penis and the vulva mainly have different pain receptors than the testicles. The statement that women have a higher prain treshold generally seems to be untrue. And again, I am not an expert and this is just what I got from a quick google search. However I believe that it is more informed than what most people have written. Intuitively it would make sense if the testicles were more vulnerable, as they are much more directly related to reproduction than the female groin area. Furthermore, the testicles are organs. They probably developed some resistance due to evolution as well as the ability to avoid attacks, as long as the have the chance to, which means it is unlikely that they are accidently hit. A deliberate hit however means they can't make use of that dodging mechanism. They would be especially vulnerable to a squeeze.

"The groin attack is not always effective on male attackers so females fearing rape must also be prepared with other attack measures if the maneuver fails."

This sentence seems to suggest that some males have genitals that are impervious to pain.

"Both genders can be incapacitated by a groin attack" Can anyone gve a source for this? Or at least vouch for it?

Women can be just as hurt by an attack on their genitals as any man, even capable of worse because they have more nerve endings there. Just because you don't see it on TV doesn't mean it's not there. Womens' breasts are also very sensitive to impact and injury. (Please do not go out and try to test these, just trust me that they're very, very true)
I can vouch for it. Let's leave it at that. ;) Zuiram 01:14, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More nerve endings - I certainly doubt that. Not only do women seem to have higher pain threshold - (less nerve endings) but they also dont seem to have near as much pain there. Ive heard of men passing out from the pain of it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.43.71.254 (talk) 21:07, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And I, also. Several times as a child, I sustained several groin injuries that were paralyzingly painful -- so it has always been a memory that made it very easy to feel a great deal of empathy for males who suffer them.. Actually, I have always been startled that I have never heard anyone mention this before. I do have all my sisters who can vouch for me.

Well that's like asking for the source of "Both genders can jump off the empire state building". I don't think it's that easy to prove it on paper, but obvious enough for people to understand.

But the common understanding is that that is false; and I have observed circumstances that seemed to prove that it is untrue, so maybe some kind of medical journal? (which could also tell you that oth genders can jump, regardless of where they ar

In fact this article quotes a comedic reference suggesting a groin-attack is male specific, ( the main reporter tries to fend off one of Longfellow's friends by kicking her in the groin, but she quotes "Why you kickin', I got no balls!") so the point is well worth making.Lyswim 06:55, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Woman have more nerve endings down there. The reason it isn’t obvious is because it’s in a specific area and really small and more private than the testicles. You’d have to get your foot really up there and have great aim and understanding of the specific anatomy or get really lucky. 2.31.226.10 (talk) 06:42, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It’s basically like like a man in his butt and expecting him to take it like nutshot. So close but not close enough. 2.31.226.10 (talk) 06:45, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Striking the groin of a female attacker is considered a valid self-defense technique and accidental trauma a problem serious enough to require attention. http://www.the-aes.org/combatEvolved.html http://www.nutricraze.com/Article_about_Self-defense-techniques-facial-and-groin-attacks-a-4554.html http://www.gungfu.com/cart-htm/training_gear_protective_gear_groin_guards_female.htm

The female system is more vulnerable to penetrative force as evidenced in the pain and injuries that accidental, forced or consensual penetration in a sexual or other context may cause. Of this there are several studies. Furthermore, blunt trauma is evidently a common cause of injury. http://www.springerlink.com/content/l33276j228132185/

I'm sure a crotch shot hurts for women ... but as much or more than for a man??? Men have external gonads, women have INTERNAL gonads. It's being hit in the gonads that are debilitating.

And where does it say that woman have more nerve endings in their genitals. Especially, their EXTERNAL genitals?

HAHAHAHA! This is, by far, the funniest artical on this entire website! Amazing!

I'm not here to argue with anyone, male and female. But I am here with the intention of arising the awareness among the society towards the importance of protecting the female genital area during any kind of sports that portray a risk of injuring the genital area because this could be fatal. Females should wear a pelvic protector or "jillstrap" for protection. Vaginal or vulvar lacerations ever occur due to such injuries and it will result in excessive bleeding that could cause death. Prevention is better than cure. Protect women as well as men.

Examples

[edit]

Jewish youth leader Rabbi Baruch Lanner kneed teenage boys in the groin for decades along with other physical and sexual abuse of minors. [1][2][3]

Former Congressman James Traficant often referred to groin attacks in his colorful congressional speeches. On one occasion, while defending himself in a criminal trial, he declared of the prosecutor, "if they lie again, I'm going to go over there and kick them in the crotch."

In an September 2004 interview with Maxim magazine, pop-rock singer Avril Lavigne claims to have administered a groin kick to a female bar patron who insulted her "punk" credibility: "Some chick came up to me and said something, so I kicked her in the box and shoved her."

In a December 1999 interview with Stuff magazine, actress Kelly Hu described how she beat up a stuntman by kicking him in the groin on the set of the movie Surf Ninjas.

Groin attacks are featured in many Steven Seagal films (e.g. On Deadly Ground).

Professional wrestler Ric Flair often administers to his opponents a sneaky low blow with his arm, in keeping with his status as the "Dirtiest Player In The Game". It was also a signature move of female wrestler Chyna. Chyna also used the testicular claw, where the attacker grabs and squeezes the opponents testicles. In one notorious incident she squeezed Jeff Jarrett's testicles with a pair of tongs.

In the book Catch-22, the character of Yossarian is kicked in the groin by Nately's whore (representing his conscience).

In the film Double Impact, a female assassin (Corey Everson) grabs Alex's (Jean-Claude Van Damme) groin in an attempt to defeat him in a fight.

The character of Kitty Baxter in the musical Chicago kicks men in the groin in most productions, including the Oscar-winning film (in which she is played by Lucy Liu).

Actress Michelle Yeoh is known for feigning kicks to the groins of interviewers (as described in Movieline magazine).

In the 2002 film I Spy, the main female character (played by Famke Janssen) kicks groins so often — and to such good effect — that she can only be captured after Scotty (Owen Wilson) makes sure to wear a cup before confronting her.

In the 2002 film The Two Towers, the dwarf Gimli hits a Uruk-hai berserker in the groin with a battle axe during the Battle of the Hornburg.

The Spike TV show Fresh Baked Video Games features a segment called "Free Game for a Shot to the Nuts." In this segment, male audience members can win a free game if they can withstand a hard, direct blow to the groin. The contestants get to choose their method of getting hit from options ranging from a baseball bat-wielding Little Leaguer to a professional football kicker to a beautiful woman. (Actress-models Annika Svedman and Lisa Gleave have both made multiple appearances on the show kicking nuts.)

In the movie Smilla's Sense of Snow, Julia Ormond's character Smilla pincers her father's catty mistress's crotch with thumb and fingers.

In both the original novel and film version of Casino Royale, the main antagonist performs torture on James Bond by repeatively striking him in the groin while he is tied to a chair. In the novel this is performed with a carpet beater, where in the film a knotted rope is used.

In the arcade game Mortal Kombat, the character Johnny Cage can hit other fighters in the groin. This move is ineffective against female fighters. Also, a scene in the live action movie pits him in a fight with Goro, and uses this move against him.

In Frank Miller's Sin City (comic book and film), detective John Hartigan shoots Junior Roark in the crotch. The character Marv attacks a guard in the crotch with an axe.

In comedy

[edit]

Injuries to the groin, including attacks, are often plumbed for comedic value.

In the 2002 comedy film Run Ronnie Run, the lead chimney sweep (Jack Black) sings a song, "Kick in the Cunt", which states that the best way to irritate a lady is to kick her in the crotch.

In the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the gang's newly elected leader, Harvey Logan challenges Butch to a knife fight. The two men start circling each other, and Butch stops, and wants to discuss rules. "Rules? There are no rules in a knife fight," Harvey replies, and is promptly floored with a sudden kick to the groin.

In the 1974 film The Longest Yard, Mean Machine quarterback Paul Crewe (Burt Reynolds) intentionally throws a football at the groin area of Guardsmen middle linebacker Igor Bogdansky (Ray Nitschke) on consecutive downs after Bogdansky hit Mean Machine fullback Nate Scarborough (Michael Conrad) late after Scarborough scored a touchdown, leaving Scarborough with torn cartilage in both of his knees. Crewe is penalized for unnecessary roughness after each throw, but overcomes the penalties to lead the Mean Machine to the game-winning touchdown.

In South Park, Eric Cartman frequently threatens that he will "kick you in the nuts". In Episode 112: "Mecha-Streisand", Cartman kicks Pip in the groin over ownership of an Indian arrowhead; and in Episode 512: "Here Comes the Neighborhood", the boys groin-kick each other for laughs. In Episode 504: "Super Best Friends", Kyle and Stan take turns kicking Cartman in the crotch.

In Mr. Deeds the main reporter tries to fend off one of Longfellow's friends by kicking her in the groin, but she quotes "What are you kickin'? I ain't got no balls, dummy!"

In a memorable scene in the Steve Martin film, The Jerk, Martin uses kung fu to dispatch a series of crooked developers, but injures his foot when kicking the groin of one of them, who turns out to have been "Iron Balls McGinty".

Many clips from the television program America's Funniest Home Videos feature an actual groin attack as the slapstick gag.

In 8-Bit Theater, Created by Brian Clevinger, Black Mage is kicked in the crotch by a (non-goblin) Green Monster. Since he had become a blue mage beforehand, he learned this maneuver dubbed "the goblin punch" and used it on the monster, causing an explosion sending the monster hundreds of feet in the air.

One of the most legendary comedic groin attacks was done by Kyra Sedgwick to Dennis Quaid in the film Something to Talk About. Roger Ebert said of Sedgwick's groin kick that "[S]he handles it with perfect timing and a certain elan."

Madeleine Kahn also performed a knee to the groin in Blazing Saddles. Kahn was nominated for an Oscar for her performance. She coincidentally performed the same act in Clue, as Mrs. White.

In The Simpsons episode "A Star Is Burns", Hans Moleman and George C. Scott both get hit in the groin by footballs.

Saturday Night Live frequently uses groin attacks as a source of humor. One notable example is the "Tough as Nails" sketch, in which Katie Holmes repeatedly attacks Will Ferrell's groin in a comically exaggerated way, eventually kicking him so hard that his testicles fall off.

Robot Chicken once had a skit called "Ode to the nutshot" which proved that no matter how many times you see someone hit there, even if its clay, it's still funny.

The Miss Congeniality films frequently make reference to the self-defense technique of "SING" - that is, attacking the Solar Plexus, Instep, Nose, and Groin. In the first film, Sandra Bullock's character does this to Benjamin Bratt's character onstage during a beauty pageant, causing him to double over in pain. In the second film, Regina King's character makes a bad guy SING soprano, then tells him, "I hope you weren't planning on reproducing!" She also demonstrates the technique on Regis Philbin (playing himself).

In the animated sitcom "King of the Hill", the "Bobby goes Nuts" episode, Bobby Hill uses groin attacks as a way of defending himself from school bullies, usually after yelling "That's my purse, I don't know you!" after learning the technique from a woman's self-defense class.

In the song Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny by Lemon Demon (and the Flash animation video), Indiana Jones is killed by a severe groin attack by Chuck Norris.

In the 2005 film Monster In Law Viola, (Jane Fonda) is struggling with Ruby, (Wanda Sykes.) Viola kicks Ruby in the groin, to which she replies "I think you dislocated my vagina."

In the 1995 comedy film Mallrats, the character T.S. Quint (Jeremy London) is hit with a groin attack by Gwen Turner (Joey Lauren Adams). On the DVD commentary, it is revealed that Adams actually (accidentally) hit London in the groin, and they had to stop filming for about half an hour while he recovered.

In the 2002 film Men in Black II, Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) delivers a "groin" attack to a member of a humanoid species known as a "ballchinian", named for a scrotum-like feature hanging under its chin. A direct assault on this structure by Agent K resulted in the being's immediate defeat. (Though not anatomically an attack to the being's groin, it is included here because it is functionally equivalent to a "low blow".)

In the anime Sonic X, the titular character battles the robot Emerl, but Emerl delivers a punch to Sonic's groin area, causing Sonic to be, comically, knocked unconscious.

During the film Pokémon 4Ever, Ash Ketchum holds his groin area and moans in pain, as though implying he got a groin attack.

In the 1999 film Drop Dead Gorgeous, while preparing a dance routine for a pageant, a girl jumps from a platform and it hits her between the legs. In the next scene, she is sitting on the ground in pain with an ice pack on her crotch.

In the film Young Frankenstein, Dr. Frankenstein demonstrates the effect of severed nerves by using a clamp on an elderly patient to supress nerve functions, then kneeing the man in the crotch. The man does not respond, save for worry, until the Doctor removes the clamp, causing the man to collapse and be carted off, holding himself.

In Super Android 13, the seventh movie in of the Dragon Ball Z series, Son Goku and his buddies are involved in a serious fight against the Androids. During the battle, one of the androids kicks Goku in his testicles with a full-power thrust with his metal iron hand, causing Goku severe pain.

In the book Beavis and Butt-head Ensucklopedia, early in the book is a human anatomy section. Butt-head does a report on the human butt (with a normal looking illustrated drawing of a butt), while Beavis does a report on the nads. Beavis' accompying illustration of nads contains a man kicking it, three stick people and a airplane shooting guns at it and a cannon firing an approaching missile while Beavis looks as if he was responsible for the picture (the illustration is extremely crude, as it is done for comedy rather than erotica).

ok so a fractured pelvis is fatal? what if you just lay down, which it seems since it says you can't walk after, would seem likely. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.161.204.86 (talkcontribs)

I can imagine how it could be true, but our imagination shouldn't be the basis for an encyclopedia. I looked up fractures to the pubis and death doesn't appear to be a prominent complication.[4] Impotence and incontinence appear to be the main long-term effects. The WP article on Pelvic fracture says this is seen in motorcycle accidents and requires surgery. I'm sure it's impossible to walk until the fracture is mended. Anyway, I'll take out the part about death. It's likely a person will die if they are hit very hard on any part of their head or torso, so it's not necesary to get into extrmese. Unless we have a specific source on mortality from groin attacks we should leave it out. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 10:11, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lethality

[edit]

I just added a sentence and a reference about lethality. It's a court case where two different women were convicted of killing their husbands and all they did to kill them was squeeze their testicles.[5]

Maybe that settles the "does it hurt women as much as men?" debate

Wsd4life (talk) 19:45, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I´d like to mention, that there are very few reported cases like those, and all of them seem to lack medical evidence to prove the cause of death. The sollicitor who wrote the article, himself stated:"There is insufficient medical evidence before me to explain the cause of death from the kind or degree of force applied to the testicles to cause death." I also can´t find any reported cases in Europe or North America, all the cases seem to be from countries where autopsies tend to be inaccurate. I´d suggest removing this sentence or change it to something like: "Because of the large amount of nerves in the groin an injury in this area can cause a neurogenic shock".(Not only in males) KFC-feeder (talk) 20:28, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For some reason Mr.T keeps restoring the sentence. I see your basic point, that it is sourced information, but the information the source provides isn´t valid as there is no medical explanation for the cause of death as the quote I wrote earlier states itself. So to leave the paragraph in the article there should be another, proven, source about such a case. My point is that there are way more reports of men who survived more severe wounds to the testicles e.g gunshots or accidents with machines and those apply a power far more intense than a human could do. So the death from neurogenic shock in this area would be as likely as dying from a punch or a kick to any other senisitive body region and is not connected to the testicles to be more specific. I will wait for an answer within a day or two, which proves this sentence without just pointing to the same source again, before i delete the sentence again. KFC-feeder (talk) 18:36, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Male/Female Section

[edit]
Male and female groin strikes should be discussed in a separate section of this article. Throughout the article, the testicles and the vulva are regarded as though they are analogous, and of equal importance to their respective reproductive systems. This is not the case. Also the notion that women have more nerve endings in their groin area is a misconception. Yes, the clitoris has the highest concentration of nerve endings in the human body. However, it has just as many nerve endings as the glans penis, its larger male analogue. Neither the glans clitoris or the glans penis are as sensitive to blunt trauma as the testis. A strike to the vulva is incomparable to a strike to the male gonads, especially pertaining to potential damage. Males risk sterilization and testicular removal, along with the hormonal issues that come forthwith. Females may face deformation and/or loss of sensation. The two are hardly equitable. --71.172.123.103 (talk) 06:51, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, the vulva is very sensitive to blunt trauma. Any female in martial arts who has taken a well placed kick will tell you you're under estimating this. MaritalArtist8019 (talk) 17:51, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Of course the vulva is sensitive to trauma. Very sensitive. But the testicles are analogous to the ovaries, which are also *very* sensitive. Thus, a strike to the groin of a male and a female are equivalent if the testicles were not present. For the male victim, the pain is compounded and extended by the presence of unprotected internal organs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.168.189.129 (talk) 21:02, 30 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with MaritalArtist8019, I don't find that the blunt force caused by a strike to the vulva is especially painful compared to other parts of the body. What is more painful is something like falling on a bike and landing on the metal bar. But a kick there from a person is not especially painful, and certainly not even remotely approaching what men would seem to go through. BreakingBrad95 (talk) 16:38, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
