Not that you anyone would, but if I were you, I wouldn't go on holiday to Carlisle in the near future. - Dudesleeper talk 01:50, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Carlisle is in England. Who knew? haha. Carlisle sounds Welsh I guess. Its not like it is anywhere important like London, Blackpool or Accrington. Guess I touched a nerve with my ignorance of Cumbria, heh.--EchetusXe 02:14, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Joyce

I don't suppose you've been keeping a list of 1888-1939 Vale players that should be in Michael Joyce's book but aren't, have you? I've got two Blackpool players, but I'll check with the club historian before I contact the author. - Dudesleeper talk 02:02, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

hmm, suppose you could search for 'Port Vale Blackpool' and see if any players on the list played for Blackpool but aren't in the book.--EchetusXe 13:03, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Well, I meant Vale players in general, but I guess I could to that too. - Dudesleeper talk 13:10, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
What book are you referring to? The one that lists all the Blackpool players?--EchetusXe 14:11, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
No, Joyce's Football League Players 1888-1939 book. I meant I've found a couple of Blackpool players that aren't in it and was wondering if you'd done the same for Port Vale. - Dudesleeper talk 22:07, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Ah right. Haven't got the book.--EchetusXe 22:09, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
That's a slight hole in my idea then. Must be thinking of one of your other references. - Dudesleeper talk 22:26, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
No problem :P--EchetusXe 22:34, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Vale player

Not sure if you're bothered about Vale players who didn't make any League appearances for the club, but ... - Dudesleeper talk 01:50, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

I have no info on him I'm afraid!--EchetusXe 02:28, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Staffordshire

Do you think there is a need for such a project? Most counties seem to be represented somehow but Staffordshire is missing out as there isn't even a West Midlands (region) project to piggyback onto. NtheP (talk) 15:35, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, definitely.--EchetusXe 22:43, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
Something to start work on. Are we talking the historic county (pre 1974) or the current geographical boundary? NtheP (talk) 13:43, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
I've submitted a proposal at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Staffordshire if you would care to offer your backing. NtheP (talk) 16:37, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi, do you want to double-check the spelling with your source, as my Joyce source as his name spelt with only one 'p'. Regards. Eldumpo (talk) 22:20, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

One 'p'. My mistake!--EchetusXe 22:39, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi - can you check your reference book(s) for his dates of birth and death. The dates in the article tie up to "The Alphabet of the Saints". You may have seen on the talk page, but his daughter (I have no reason to doubt that she is who she says she is) says that his date of birth is 15 September 1909, and that he died on 19 February 1986 in Chester. It's difficult to disagree with a close relative but one of the tenets of WP is "verifiability". It would be rather insulting to ask her to produce his birth/death certificates. Cheers. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 18:43, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

My book says 18 September 1908 (Hylton) - 1983 (Luton).--EchetusXe 14:55, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 02:52, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi there. I was wondering if there was any mention in your Port Vale book of Saunders having played as a forward or winger, perhaps for the reserves? I ask because a player of the same name played for Watford, left in 1899, and while he was a prolific forward for us, it specifically makes the point that he was a goalkeeper in an 11–0 (!) reserve team win. Regards, WFC (talk) 18:54, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Nah man, all the info I have is in that article there. If I had to guess I'd say they were the same bloke, but then again why wouldn't my book writer pick up on the fact that this guy was a prolific scorer for Watford?--EchetusXe 14:30, 10 July 2010 (UTC)--EchetusXe 14:30, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
It's a good point. I'll raise it at WP:FOOTY. If users such as Cattivi or Daemonic Kangeroo (to name two of several) can't get to the bottom of it, I doubt anyone ever will. Thanks for the reply, WFC (talk) 18:15, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Flickr

Hi, it's pretty simple. You just register for an account on Flickr (which can be done on the site's homepage) and then when you've found a photo you want uploading onto Commons add the author as a contact and send them a message using the infobox facility asking for the copyright be changed to either the "Attribution Creative Commons" or "Attribution-ShareAlike Creative Commons" licence. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 14:17, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Cheers!--EchetusXe 17:17, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, I was getting round to it myself lol.--EchetusXe 21:44, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
No problem. Navigating through the TUSC login process can be a pain. It looks like you made a good find since the guy has some images that will be awesome in the topic area. I noticed that some of his image streams have the no derivative works tag. It might be worth shooting him a message over at Flickr that we would like to use several of his images that are currently acceptably licensed just to make sure we aren't stepping on his toes. We don't want to put all of his stadium and player images at Commons if he made a mistake. Chances are he is a fan and will be happy to see his work on Wikipedia but it might be polite to mention it to him. And they are correctly licensed so there should not be any issues. Cptnono (talk) 22:06, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
Bit late for that I'm afraid. I noticed that his photos have been in use here (mostly on Bury player's articles, i.e. here) for the past couple of years. So I'm sure he has been made aware of it before, and if not and he isn't happy about it then I'd hate to be the one to break it to him LOL!--EchetusXe 22:10, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Stoke - smallest city with 2 teams?

Hi. I'm not sure your claim still stands. The very next edit inserted another template, of the 25 biggest by population, and Nottingham is shown as smaller than Stoke. NtheP (talk) 14:19, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Ah cocks. Looks like User:SwiftyStokie added that 'fact' to Potteries derby and I later assumed that I had wrote that and checked it up. Thanks.--EchetusXe 20:31, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Templates

Hi, could you nominate Template:Grays Athletic F.C. squad as well please. It's barely populated now since their drop down the ladder. I'm not too familiar with the TfD process. Thanks, --Jimbo[online] 16:09, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

I did that last night! As I say you can support the deletion request here, it is easy to take part in, just edit the request and add your line starting with keep or delete, state your reason and then sign the post. The easiest way is to put "delete per nom.SIGN POST" as that means you vote for deletion because of the reason/s given by the nominator i.e. me.--EchetusXe 16:36, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, the taking part bit is easy. I just couldn't be bothered with the whole nominating process to be honest. Thanks though. --Jimbo[online] 19:40, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
No problem!--EchetusXe 23:44, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Repost of Gavin Massey

A tag has been placed on Gavin Massey requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia, because it appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion process. If you can indicate how it is different from the previously posted material, place the template {{hangon}} underneath the other template on the article and put a note on the page's discussion page saying why this article should stay. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. If you believe the original discussion was unjustified, please contact the administrator who deleted the page or use deletion review instead of continuing to recreate the page. Thank you. --WFC-- 18:24, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

The AfD in question can be found at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gavin Massey. Regards, --WFC-- 18:25, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
How did that get deleted? I can't be arsed to take this to a deletion review so I will wait until his second appearance and then re-create the article.--EchetusXe 19:16, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
It got deleted because WP:NSPORTS is only a rule of thumb, and because articles on people with literally one appearance tend to get neglected to the point of being wildly innaccurate. That wasn't going to happen with Massey, but I figured that Massey was the only person I could do the AfD on without anyone using the "why my club's player" defence, which often does work. Depending on how the guideline works over the next few months, there's a good chance that what we used to know as ATHLETE may be significantly altered, so that our "rule of thumb" more closely reflects the general notability guideline. --WFC-- 19:30, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
You should have picked a poorly maintained article about a player from yesteryear who also had just one minor appearance for a club. Now Massey is the only professional footballer currently in the Football League to have made a league appearance - at Championship level as well, who hasn't got an article.--EchetusXe 13:33, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
I will follow-on from it sooner or later (I'll do a few today). But I figured that it makes more sense to draw the boundaries at tougher cases first. Massey is definitely a tougher case- his one appearance was in the Championship. That said it was a few minutes, neither team had a lot riding on the result, and he hasn't been in contention to play since. I also figured that choosing a player from any other club would result in cries of targetting or belittling that club, so I had to do one or two Watford ones first. I'll probably nominate one or two more like that just to make sure that the AfD wasn't a freak result, and then work on the assumption that the guideline can be amended to clarify this, and that lower-hanging fruit (one appearance in the 1950s) can be PROD-ded. By the way, has the TfD for Template:Dover Athletic F.C. squad finished? I assume it has, but can't find the discussion so just want to be on the safe side before removing the template. --WFC-- 10:31, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
Yes, that and Blyth Spartans and sadly Northwich Victoria were kept.--EchetusXe 10:35, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Your request for rollback

Hi EchetusXe/Archive 2010. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! FASTILY (TALK) 00:25, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

Abdulai Bell-Baggie

Abdulai Bell-Baggie's birthplace is given as "Sierra Leone" in Sky Sports Football Yearbook 2010-2011. (Though I wouldn't be surprised if he was quite young when he came to England, and may be considered an English footballer.)

Greetings from OddMan from Oslo. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.88.155.203 (talk) 12:21, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

PS. - Also, I noticed that he's supposed to be 5ft 4in tall, according to the good people at Sky Sports, as opposed to 6ft+. I've never actually seen him play, so I wouldn't know... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.88.155.203 (talk) 12:31, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Ok, thanks. And the 6 foot plus thing is wrong, so the 5 foot 4 thing is probably correct too.--EchetusXe 13:28, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Categories

Hi mate, good work on creating those categories for players of the more obscure football clubs. When you add those categories to articles, make sure you leave a gap between the categories and any stub templates or interwiki links. – PeeJay 10:53, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Does that make a difference to anything? I didn't think it did but I will leave a gap in future.--EchetusXe 10:57, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
It doesn't make a difference to readers, but it makes it easier for editors to discern where the list of categories ends and the interwikis/stub templates begin. – PeeJay 22:27, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Ah ok, I'll continue leaving a gap.--EchetusXe 22:29, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

wow, that was actually very useful as a few of them pointed out flag and cap errors. And they didn't make a big song and dance about the slight errors like one pissed off Carlisle journalist did.--EchetusXe 18:56, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Player stats

I'm not sure why you're updating playing statistics before the games have finished. If the game is abandoned then the games won't count to playing statistics. Secondly, I notice the stats are according to your update correct to 00:00 11 October 2010. That's not for another day and a half yet! Brad78 (talk) 14:31, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Well firstly thats not very likely! And secondly I thought it was the 10th today! 00:00 10 October 2010 being midnight tonight so as to avoid confusion over whether the stats are updated to include today's game or not.--EchetusXe 14:34, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
It's not very likely? It's still possible. Plenty of reasons a game can be abandoned. It's plain wrong to update the stats before the end of a game. Brad78 (talk) 15:02, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Howdy,

Is it possible you could help me with something please? I have looked unsuccessfully in the help pages for info on how to add a template to a page to request editors direct their attention to a comment I propose to add on the talk page. Edit semi-protected requests

Just wanted to let you know that whenever you respond to Edit semi-protected requests, its helpful to change the request from {editsemiprotected}} to {Tld|editsemiprotected}}. This removes it from the ESp category, making it easier for those who patrol the category to know the request has been handled. Thanks! EchetusXe 01:49, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Right, ok, thanks!--EchetusXe 01:49, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

A7 and footballers

Playing for a notable club is a credible assertion of significance, meaning that none of the articles you've just tagged are going to be deleted under A7. A7 only requires an assertion of significance, not notability. Most of those articles would probably not survive an AfD (or even a PROD), because most of them don't meet WP:ATH, but that's not a speedy criterion. Now I've explained that, I hope you won't take offence, but I'm going to quickly revert all the taggings rather than explain each individual decline. By all means PROD or AfD them. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:02, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Ah right ok, I've prodded them all now.--EchetusXe 21:35, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletions

Hello. Just to let you know I removed the prod on Éder dos Santos, which I came across by accident. When you prod a football article, please would you add it to the list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football#Nominations for deletion and page moves, so people get a chance to check them over before they disappear. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:41, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Ok, sure, will do that in future.--EchetusXe 17:26, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
I noticed you placed a prod tag on a lot of the articles in the unreferenced BLP list. Most of them look fine, but can I also ask that they be added to the list above, since mistakes (eg. Eldoraldo Markoçi) are inevitably made. Cheers. J Mo 101 (talk) 16:30, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Marios Louka

I removed the prod you placed on Marios Louka, as the article survived an AfD in 2007 and is therefore permanently ineligible for prod. I neither agree nor disagree with your rationale for deletion; I am merely ensuring that proper procedure is followed. I have no prejudice against opening another AfD. —KuyaBriBriTalk 20:40, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Ok, thank you.--EchetusXe 22:12, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

BLP sources

Hello. Think you might be confusing the {{BLP sources}} tag with {{BLPunsourced}}. BLPsources is to categorise the article as needing its references improving, but you've been removing it from articles like Tony Coleman which are very much in need of reference improvement. Perhaps you might want to replace it where you've removed it by mistake... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 11:07, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Ah, ok.--EchetusXe 11:14, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
