Robison family murders[edit]

Would you please consider reading WP:CITE and bringing your citations in line with Wikipedia's rules and style guidelines? Also, did you intend to delete all the wikilinks and section formatting? Because your recent edit did both. I am going to restore the article improvement tags, because the article needs cleanup and wikification. Like you, I'm just trying to improve the article. Cheers, Dawn Bard (talk) 20:20, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Robison family-1967.pdf[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Robison family-1967.pdf, which you've attributed to Michigan State Police crime file, 1968. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ninja Dianna (Talk) 22:02, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ninja Dianna I have a paid FOIA request form for the Robison Family Murders 1967 family portrait that allows public use. Does that qualify as non-free fair use? EFV

Ninja Diana, Non-Fair Free Use would apply. This image has been available for public use since July 23, 1968 and has appeared in numerous magazines-newspapers-books. It has been a part of the ROBISON FAMILY MURDERS article since August of 2009 and I only updated the image to mnake it clearer. EFV

Your submission at AfC Burt Lake Burn-Out was accepted[edit]

Burt Lake Burn-Out, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.

You are more than welcome to continue making quality contributions to Wikipedia. Note that because you are a logged-in user, you can create articles yourself, and don't have to post a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for Creation if you prefer.

Thank you for helping improve Wikipedia!

Overall nice work, so I've gone ahead and published it, but it still has several issues you need to address, which I've "tagged" at the top of the article. Among them:
  • Don't use "ibid", because if as the article develops we end up moving around text, we could lose track of what a given "ibid" refers to as the order of sentences changes. Instead there's a convenient WP:Refname coding that can help avoid having to re-type the same footote.
  • Your picture is not well-formatted, note the huge amount of blank space around it. Can you have someone good with images help you re-scan the image at better quality and crop it to remove extra space? And also please remove the "courtesy of" and instead enter that citation into the coding of the image page, not in the photo itself.
  • I removed some phrases that were just clearly very un-encyclopedic: How ironic that "oral tradition" had, and still has, a better memory of the factual INTENT of those treaties signed between a recognized sovereign Indian Nation and the federal government! ... Their village could be burned-out, but as a people, they were not destroyed. Encyclopedias do not judge what is ironic, humorous, interesting, etc. We just give facts and let the reader interpret. Also we absolutely cannot add our own new interpretations to issues, we can simply cite documented facts and published opinions of experts, under WP:No original research.
  • You've largely neglected to WP:Wikilink key terms to their own articles, which is key to letting readers "flow" through Wikipedia, forming an unending chain of related concepts.
  • I've added WP:Categories for you, which also helps situate your article amongst related topics.

Nice work, but some improvement needed, similar with your article on the Band itself, which could use some tweaking (and linking to this article on the Burn). Well done overall, but make sure you're learning about the formatting as you go, and make very sure you give only documented facts and opinions, rather than draw your own conclusions or advocate. MatthewVanitas (talk) 22:01, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article The Burt Lake Burn-Out has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This looks like an accidental copy-paste of Burt Lake Burn-Out

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A tag has been placed on Club Ponytail-Harbor Springs 1962-1969 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. A tag has been placed on Club Ponytail-Harbor Springs 1962-1969, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an acceptable page. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this page is not blatant advertising, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. You are welcome to edit the page to fix this problem, but please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. As well as removing promotional phrasing, it helps to add factual encyclopaedic information to the page, and add citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the page will be verifiable. Suggestions on Draft:Club Manitou[edit]

Hello, Eugene Francois Vidocq. You have new messages at Draft:Club Manitou.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Thank you

I cannot seem to get the references to appear correct? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eugene Francois Vidocq (talkcontribs) 15:33, 12 April 2015‎ (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at what I did in this edit. I'll try to explain here what I did and why.
  1. When you want to insert a footnote into the article, add <ref>The information for the citation</ref>
  2. If you want to use the same reference more than once, then you need to name it. So the first time you insert the reference, use something like <ref name=clock1987>The content for the Clock 1987 reference.</ref> Then when you need to insert it again, just use <ref name=clock1987 />
  3. Whatever is in set up in the article with the <ref>...</ref> tags will appear at the bottom where {{reflist}} appears in the references section.
Hopefully that helps. You can also get fancier by using {{cite news}} or other templates to format the content of a citation. You could have <ref name=clock1987>{{cite news |last= Clock |first= Robert |title= Era Ends With Death of Harbor Springs Club Owner |newspaper= Petoskey News Review |date= November 17, 1987}}</ref> which would give you
Clock, Robert (November 17, 1987). "Era Ends With Death of Harbor Springs Club Owner". Petoskey News Review.
in the footnote. Imzadi 1979  21:08, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Page moves[edit]

You seem to be moving new articles to the wrong place. The "Wikipedia:" namespace is for project pages, stuff like WikiProjects, our Manual of Style or the various pages on our policies and guidelines. I've moved some pages back into the Draft: namespace so that you can continue to work on them. When they are ready, they should be moved to the mainspace, which is the "(article)" option in the pop-up menu when moving pages. Imzadi 1979  20:52, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eugene Francois Vidocq (talkcontribs) 15:08, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You'll also want to sign your posts on talk pages. This can be done by inserting ~~~~ after your posting. The four tildes (~) will be expanded by the server into your signature with a date stamp. Imzadi 1979  15:11, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eugene, If you want to become a regular aviation article contributor it may be useful for you to use Template:WPAVIATION creator, it saves a lot of work and gives your articles a standardised layout.--Petebutt (talk) 02:17, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Eugene Francois Vidocq,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Cheboigan Band aka Burt Lake Band of Indians should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cheboigan Band aka Burt Lake Band of Indians .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks, Luxure Σ 12:13, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

What would specifically be a problem with this article?

Removing AfD template[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Cheboigan Band aka Burt Lake Band of Indians. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. This is an automated message from a bot about this edit, where you removed the deletion template from an article before the deletion discussion was complete. If this message is in error, please report it.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 15:36, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
