Recent AfD closures[edit]

This archived discussion is still ongoing. --Mr. Guye (talk) 21:56, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

I'm at a loss as to how you can interpret the discussions about Signpost Corner, Ballacrye Corner and School House Corner as consensus to keep. Please review your closures, which, I note, contain no rationale. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:37, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Pigsonthewing,Philosopher. I apologize if you thought those decisions were incorrect. I made them because, in the Signpost Corner debate, no one other than the nominator voted for deletion, one person voted to merge, and everyone else voted some form of keep argument. The other two debates were similar. --Mr. Guye (talk) 21:53, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
I thought they were correct - I only posted here because Andy brought the topic up on other users' talk pages as well. – Philosopher Let us reason together. 02:11, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

AFD relisting[edit]

Can I please remind you again that we don't relist AFDs just because the discussion is finely balanced. We relist them when there has been insufficient discussion to accurately gauge consensus. An example is your relist of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PVS-Studio; this should have been closed (by an admin) as no-consensus, as nearly a dozen editors had contributed with no consensus in any direction. The relist button is not a tiebreaker option when the discussion is tied. Stifle (talk) 10:03, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

@Stifle: As I have heard, you can relist a discussion twice without a rationale if the discussion is even. That discussion has only been relisted once before I had relisted it. What did I do wrong? --Mr. Guye (talk) 22:32, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for your listings at RfD[edit]

Section title says it all, but thanks once again. You always have a good reason when you list them (except for "gawd", which you immediately withdrew, and that is a mark of your honesty and good faith.) Thanks for helping make WP better. Si Trew (talk) 19:18, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the thanks, no need. I am somewhat wordy and also harsh at RfD, others moreso. Oddly compared to AfD and so on, we do not stand on ceremony on rules (I was told off for kinda trying to when I forgot a "not" when I was "not" trying to), but all you bring are sensible, even if the consensus makes you a minority.
I like RfD a lot because it is a springboard for me to look at articles to improve them, and as Louis MacNeice put it, "The drunkenness of things being various". One minute we are discussing what a Greek theta looked like in Mesopotamic runes and the next what to do with Penguinone, and since I am a jack of all trades it just kinda suits me that I can have this roving contract. I think you do too, so just bung 'em in when you fancy, I tend to mop up and do the research and then others come in with considered opinions.
I don't win very often though. But what matters is to make the encyclopaedia better. This is an amazing, brilliant, resource, that we made. On our own, out of love, and not a penny paid, because it's important. I really believe the vision, not when I am shouting at the screen saying WHEN I PUT AN EYETIE THERE I WANT IT *THERE*, NOT WHERE YOU THINK I WANT IT*** and templates are terrible and the editor is terrible but then I use vi (editor) at work and have been doing so for 18 years and I kinda like vi. I have hidden shallows, I guess. But I really should do this article, and I am just doing work avoidance now. The thanks are genuine, though. Si Trew (talk) 23:42, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Hello Mr. Guye, I am a paid editor who is working hard to come into compliance with the rules of Wikipedia as I have been doing a lot of things wrong. I need someone who can help me keep the straight and narrow and who can maintain church and state and someone I can run changes by before I make them to sanity check them and whatnot. I would appreciate your consideration. I hope I am not toxic. PS: I used to be a coder, Python & Perl, and was 100% vi and vim and not Emacs Chrisabraham (talk) 10:24, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi there Mr Guye,

I am working on a fundamental rewrite of my previous article "The Unofficial Guides to Medicine" However, it is now completely deleted on wikipedia, even in the drafts folder. Is there anyway i can access my previous text do you know?

Thanks in advance for your help

Altough I am not Guye, I would be happy to answer your question, you can ask an administrator to undelete it for you, however, make sure it complies WP:Undeletion policy, and if you are to even publish that article, you must make sure that it meets all of Wikipedia's policies, most notably WP:Notability and other policies, however, judging by the title, it sounds unfit for Wikipedia, I'll see once it is undeleted. I'll leave more links for you at your talk page. - Yutah Andrei Marzan Ogawa123|UPage|☺★ (talk) 12:44, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Help incorporating your Comments on Draft:Julie Mintz[edit]

Appreciate the comments on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Julie_Mintz
2 questions:
The small section that you turned into a WP:LEAD, I expanded it by using a recent referenced quote I was able to find. Will the changes suffice for the LEAD?
And should the CHARITY section be deleted, since it is unsourced?
Thanks for the help. (Bonmee (talk) 02:49, 6 March 2015 (UTC))

@Bonmee: The recent addition to the lead is highly POV and informal. Can you make it more neutral and formal? Regarding the "Charity" section, only if you cannot find a reliable source that verifies that she is a volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation would the section have to be deleted. After these things are fixed, I'll publish the article. --Mr. Guye (talk) 02:59, 6 March 2015 (UTC)

I attempted to clean up the informality and attributed the biased statement. Does that help with the POV issue? I deleted the "Charity" section, as I could only find evidence of that on her social media, but no reliable source. Thanks (Bonmee (talk) 03:46, 6 March 2015 (UTC))

Practical phonetic training[edit]

I’m sorry, but I cannot accept your opinion of my draft of Practical Phonetic Training. The article attempts to summarize the process whereby people become trained as expert phoneticians, an area of essential importance in the subject and one which is currently overlooked by WP. Your judgment implies that I have written something that is like a personal essay, that my sources are not secondary, reliable sources and that the article contains original research. What I wrote is in no way a statement of my personal views, but a synthesis of what has been written on the subject by the most influential phoneticians of the 20th century (Daniel Jones, David Abercrombie and Peter Ladefoged), and in all cases I have quoted from what they have written as general surveys rather than as advocacy for a particular point of view. As regards your accusation of writing OR, what I wrote was what any university department that teaches phonetics might put in its prospectus; its tone is entirely neutral and factual. I have been a professional in the field of phonetics for nearly fifty years, and my published work includes contributions to encyclopedias and dictionaries, so I think I am capable of telling when I am writing original research and when I am not. Obama's hero[edit]

This seemed like a pretty unlikely, and subjective, redirect to me. NawlinWiki (talk) 17:34, 8 March 2015 (UTC)

  • @NawlinWiki: Yeah I created that redirect boldly, but there was a major Selma event yesterday where Obama pretty much outright said this. --Mr. Guye (talk) 17:39, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
  • I'm recreating it. Take it to WP:RfD if you still think it should be deleted, retargeted, etc. --Mr. Guye (talk) 17:42, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
  • I think it falls under R2 (recently created implausible redirect). I don't think anyone is going to be using this as a search term. It's also subjective in that it implies that this is the President's only hero. I will make those points at RFD. NawlinWiki (talk) 17:43, 8 March 2015 (UTC)

Hello Mr. Guye! Thank you for your feedback on this. I would love to make your suggested improvements and would like your advice as to how to go about it. In your message, you advised that the article did not “adequately show notability” and that I should add more “secondary reliable sources that are independent of the subject”. Can you clarify what these sources might be? I have already included many secondary sources from established publications – do you recommend adding more of the same or a different kind entirely? There is a wealth of published information on Mr. DeLucie so I am sure I will be able to locate the required information with your guidance.

Thank you again, Rachel

April Fool's AfD[edit]

You set up your April Fool's Day AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/World incorrectly. Here's what WP:FOOLS says:

"Editors creating a joke AFD page must immediately remove the line "{{REMOVE THIS TEMPLATE WHEN CLOSING THIS AfD}}". Otherwise a bot will add the deletion notice to the article."

You failed to remove the template (I did so for you don't worry). I also removed the deletion notice from World, because it's a joke.

If this is not an April Fool's Day joke (which I hope it is), then don't hesitate to tell me. Thank you. Pyrotle {T/C} 02:57, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Had a nice 1930s piano for a couple of years and managed to balance a pint glass on top of it. Well well, we can't all do everything. It's weird isn't it, i am excellent at carpentry and can do that which is brain hand coordination, but somehow can never connect them to a bit of catgut. Well, nice to listen to though, Strauss is good on the strings, and sounds better than a tenon saw (although if you know the trick for playing the saw, that will get you a few bob, I can do that, that is easy, you need the saw well greased and basically it acts harmonically up and down the saw so you get kinda a top A at the front and a low C at the back, depending on the size of saw, of course). I am also good at working a fiddle, but that's another story....

I didn't realise you were so young, you are so intelligent. You are going to be a star in whatever you choose to do. I kinda missed my boat, but i am content with what I have. Don't miss yours. Whatever you aim at, go for it 100% and just do it. do it. Don't harm anyone else but don't let them stand in your way. When my missus gets back from work, she will have dinner on the table. that's my job. And if you think that it will be crappy tea, you think again. Yesterday it was slow roast beef with onions, carrots, sweetcorn, and a mournaix sauce, served with a choice of wines and champagnes, all done for about a quid. I am fed up people putting me down on Wikipedia. They don't know how I live. They don't have to pull a three course meal out of a one room flat, with a cat in it. That gets fed properly. Si Trew (talk) 14:56, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Tonight actually it is honey roast pork with rosti potatoes and and probably apple sauce. Made, as always, from scratch. Not the packet rubbish. Si Trew (talk) 16:48, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
@Si Trew: I am pleased to receive such praise from an editor far more experienced than I. I honestly believe that you put more analysis, more effort into your work than I. Thank you, for your encouragement, I really appreciate it. Mr. Guye (talk) 20:38, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
That's just age, really, who was it who said on his death bed "The night is young, but I have read all the books"? What I have is an extremely varied experience, I think, I have lived and worked in four different countries, I speak about six languages extremely badly, I know the difference between a mandril and a mandrel, and that kind of thing. I am not by any means great, and don't think I am, but I have an extremely good memory, just fortune, things just go in and I remember them without needing to try. So I can pull the rabbit out of the hat on occasions, but that doesn't make me better than anyone else. Oh now I am turning into Uriah Heep, "I am so very umble". Hehehe better get back to RfD. AFD jokes[edit]

Hi Mr. Guye, Sorry to be a party-pooper,
Whilst I see the funny side to the AFDs some here don't (I've already been threatened with being dragged to ANI!) so I've closed your AFDs and I'd ask that you stop with nominating for jokes otherwise I think you're gonna end up being blocked and some here are I think tempted to block as it is!,
By all means ignore this and carry on but I don't think it'll end well Face-grin.svg, Anyway happy editing :) –Davey2010Talk 21:19, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

inre Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pop Carn (2003 film)[edit]

Thank you for bringing this to AFD, but expanded WP:BEFORE finds this topic spoken of in multiple reliable sources. Guideline tells us that topic notability is not determined through use of sources, but upon sources being available even if not used, so per available sources I believe WP:NF is met... and have worked toward improving the article. ZS Associates Draft Article[edit]

Hi Mr. Guye. Thanks so much for your assistance in continuing to move this through the process. Would reallly appreciate some further feedback if possible. In your message declining the article it mentions the sources used; however, only 2 of the 27 sources are owned properties of ZS Associates. And those sources are only used to verify office locations and leadership. Was this the only issue you saw? Just seeking some clarity, as we are happy to make any needed changes. Thx again, SusanChana (talk) 11:13, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

Hello. Just checking back on this. I have resubmitted for your consideration. Unsure what else needs to be changed. Would appreciate any feedback. Thx! SusanChana (talk) 13:31, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

Sockpuppet notifications[edit]

Hi Mr. Guye, just an FYI re: this edit. You're not required to notify people that you suspect them of sockpuppetry. In fact, it's typically a good idea to not notify so that they don't get tipped off and start ramping up whatever vandalism they intended to commit, or jump to another sock. Since the user wasn't deemed a sock, you might consider removing the notice. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:09, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

About article Lai Ying Tong's orphan tag[edit]

Hi! I wonder why there's an orphan tag for the article Lai Ying Tong. I've already linked the article to different websites and wiki pages to support the article. Thanks! tvchan 01:43, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

@Tvchan: You have misunderstood what an orphan is. If an article is an orphan it means it has no incoming links from Wikipedia pages. It isn't talking about the article linking to other websites (external links). That is not what it is talking about. It also does not mean that the article contains no links to other Wikipedia articles. That would be called a dead end. What the orphan tag is talking about is that no other Wikipedia articles link to Lai Ying Tong. You have to go to other Wikipedia articles and add links to Lai Ying Tong. I'll help you by adding incoming links. Read Wikipedia:Orphan. --Mr. Guye (talk) 03:01, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
@Mr. Guye: Thanks for your explanation! I've linked the page to some wiki articles, please check if there's any problem, thanks! tvchan 03:21, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
@Mr. Guye: Thanks so much for helping to link pages and removing the orphan tag! Appreciated! tvchan 03:50, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

Removing blacklisted links[edit]

When removing <ref>s using blacklisted links, as you did in this edit, please be sure not to leave orphaned refs behind (e.g. these). An easy way to check is to see if the page ends up in the hidden category Category:Pages with broken reference names after your edit. Thanks! jcgoble3 (talk) 03:09, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
