Declined submission. Advice please[edit]

Hi Mr. Guye,

Some advice please:User:Dr_Deborah_Swallow/Professional_Doctor_of_Diplomacy

Context: In the last 20 years, diplomats have had to face a whole raft of experiences they have never been trained to deal with. Terrorism, huge migrations of people fleeing conflict, world recession, etc. A different style of education and training is required. This article is supposed to help people understand that there is a new DOCTORATE qualification beginning. Currently only one university is validated to run it, (the one that devised it and has worked hard over a couple of years to get it recognised and validated...). Soon many other universities will be offering it - a university in Australia is in the planning stages to offer this at the mid-end of 2015, and others around the world thereafter. IT IS IMPORTANT that governments of emerging nations with little understanding of training diplomats see this qualification as valid. Please can you explain why this page was refused? I tried to find the right tone and style and used two pages already on Wikipedia. How does the one I wrote differ? How is the tone wrong compared with these two pages? How can I make it right? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_of_Management https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_of_Business_Administration I have re-edited slightly and taken out the reference to ‘unique’ and also some text about why this particular qualification is pertinent/good/relevant. Is the current editing enough? Thanks, your help is appreciated Dr Deborah Swallow 13:44, 3 January 2015 (UTC)Debby

Dr Deborah Swallow: It still reads somewhat like an essay on why the reader should participate in this program. The existing articles you brought as examples aren't written with the proper tone either. I'll pass your article but place some cleanup tags on it. Feel free to continue editing the article after it is placed in the article namespace. --Mr. Guye (talk) 00:19, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mr. Guye. I tried to delete the peacock words that do not meet article standards (although one "great" was a direct quote from a source I cited). I also deleted some details and tried to improve the overall article. I hope it is better. I think there is a limited amount of available references because Hunter was working full time for the USPS while accomplishing his orchid collecting on leave from his primary job and he died fairly young (at age 57) with no surviving children. Some sources are found in work done and published by co-collectors or family members. At first I left out the sources requiring a subscription, but the first two submissions were declined partly for lack of references so I added them. Thanks for your suggestions for article improvement. 4 JAN 2015 Panamaorchids (talk) 20:35, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Joey Graceffa[edit]

Considering he is commonly referred to as "Joey" on YouTube (i.e. his channel name), and most news articles refer to him as "Joey" rather than "Joseph", I think it would be best to move the article to Joey Graceffa instead of Joseph Graceffa. Andise1 (talk) 05:04, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Andise1: I cannot because Joey Graceffa is create protected. --Mr. Guye (talk) 21:56, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, no worries. I wasn't sure if you were able to move it but I asked to make sure. Thanks for accepting the article though! Andise1 (talk) 22:34, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

D-RASATI[edit]

Dear Mr. Guye, Our intention was more to highlight the importance of this national project funded by USAID and being implemented by World Learning Inc. in collaboration with the Lebanese ministry of education and higher education. D-RASATI project plays a huge role in improving education standards in the Lebanese public schools. More than 1600 schools will benefit from this project and over 400,000 students will be positively affected by the outcome of this project. We do not intend to exclusively promote the project but we believe it is worth having a wikipedia page for the records.

We appreciate if you can reconsider publishing D-RASATI Wikipedia page as it will serve as a reference and will add value to its readers.

Nigel Cayzer[edit]

Hi Mr Guye and a Happy New Year to you. Many thanks for reviewing and accepting Nigel Cayzer. A bot has tagged it as not having enough links to other articles. I've now linked to Eton College, Oman, GCC and the Muscat Securities Market, so that takes the total up to six. Do you think that's enough to remove that tag? I'm not sure of the protocol when it comes to reverting an change made by a bot. Thanks again. HOgilvy (talk) 11:02, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mr. Guye, The article I had written on the Cash Learning Partnership was recently declined and I am not too sure how to adapt it.

Would you consider that the whole sounds like promotional or is is the issue around the description of trainings (second part of activities) or the explanation on Why cash transfer programming?

Many thanks in advance for your advice!

Need to understand how to fix verifiability issue with citations[edit]

Hello Mr Guye

I see that you have rejected my article on Professor John Alexander MacWilliam, stating that "entire sections and paragraphs are unverified. Make sure you source everything in accordance with WP:V" I would appreciate some more information on this matter and advice on how to fix it. Most of my sources are listed as "references" and also under "external links" for more further reading. Should some (or all) of these sources be identified as citations?

Mind you, I think I now see what you mean, in that I need to cite references under each of the headed sections. I think that the existing references ar comprehensive and so somey will be quoted against more than one paragraph. I will fix that and resubmit.

I have had the article reviewed by a number of illustrious people in the field of cardiology and the history of medicine, and I can supply email notes of (enthusiastic) approval from Professor Regis de Silva (Prof. of Medicine at Harvard Medical School) Professor Bruce Fye (Prof. of the history of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic) Professor Michael de Frennaux (Regius Prof. of Medicine at Aberdeen University) Professor Colin McCaig (Regius Prof. of Physiology at Aberdeen University).

Is there a way in Wikipedia to include these or short quotes from them, or references to them - at least to reassure you? I include some unedited examples here.

e.g. from Prof. de Silva Dear Alan McWilliam, I am delighted to hear that you are writing an article on John MacWilliam - a great hero of mine. I actually went to Aberdeen (where my brother lives) in search of him to look for his grave in the cemetery in Kiltarlity (I later found he was buried iN Edinburgh and someone sent me photographs of his tombstone). I contacted people at the University and found the surgeon who had bought his house and visited it - I think the owners in 1990 were English. He is greatly under-recognized and I am pleased he will have a Wikipedia entry at last. Your article is excellent. I would only emphasize that he actually also described the basic elements of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ventilation and cardiac compression) in keeping his experimental animals alive. I believe I described this in my article. Also he described the action of dreams on heart rate and blood pressure, being the first person to do so - he noticed this in dogs in a paper he wrote in the late 1800s. I think I reference this in my paper. He was truly not only an extraordinary man, but a modest one. I drove to Inverurie to see Dr. Danny Gordon in 1990 (who was 90 years old by then) who, after reading my paper said "Great Scott! I never knew this about him!" Gordon was one of his last students and remembered him well. I myself first came across MacWilliam when I saw a photograph of him with his signature on the wall of my own mentor Dr. Bernard Lown at Harvard - Lown had invented direct current cardioversion based on the original work of MacWilliam. Please let me know if I can be of further help and I look forward to hearing from you and reading your final entry. Best wishes, Regis __________________________________ Regis A. de Silva, MD, MPA Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine Harvard Medical School

from Prof. Fye: Dear Alan, I am sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I think your article is terrific. Just a couple of comments. Under the Research work and teaching section you state that VF “became of the highest importance to clinicians in the opening decades…” I would suggest dropping “highest.” It really wasn’t important to clinicians until the advent of defibrillation and, more importantly, the advent of CCUs and continuous heart rhythm monitoring in the 1960s. Congratulations! All the best, Bruce Fye

from Prof. de Frennaux Alan Thank you for this I think its an excellent piece. You may be interested to know that my good friend and colleague Professor Douglas Chamberlain who has been a major figure throughout his career in resuscitation approached the University some years ago (before I arrived) to ask if John MacWilliam had a suitable recognition in the University and accordingly a resuscitation training room was named after him in our Suttie building Douglas had also heard of this biographical article and contacted me a few days ago to confirm the details of this room. I sent him this iPhone photo of the plaque With best wishes Michael frenneaux Regius Professor of Medicine

from Prof. McCaig Dear Alan, Many thanks for being in touch and for sending me your excellent article. Yes I certainly know of MacWilliam’s groundbreaking work which was so far ahead of his time. Aberdeen is not very good at honouring its own. Macleod and Kosterlitz (who discovered that our brains make their own opiates) are barely recognized by the University. I wonder if you know that the great James Clerk Maxwell was a Professor here at the time when Kings and Marischal Colleges merged…and that the University booted him out, because it only had room for one Professor of Natural Philosophy! Quite typical. But again, we make nothing of that – very few building named after our illustrious predecessors. My own professional background touches on Macwilliam’s legacy a little. I did my PhD with Otto Hutter in Glasgow and Otto was the first person to record electrophysiologically from beating heart cells. My predecessor here as Regius Chair in Physiology was Cecil Kidd, also an eminent cardiac physiologist. Cecil is long retired, but I shall forward your message to him and he may have comments for you. With good wishes for you and your article. Kind regards Colin Professor Colin D. McCaig, FRSE, Regius Professor of Physiology, Head of School of Medical Sciences, University of Aberdeen,

Article Declined - Advice Please[edit]

Hello,

I'm looking to get some advice on an article you recently reviewed: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Ralph_Helmick

Wikipedia isn't an art gallery - I agree - but it is an online encyclopedia and resource for all kinds of information relevant to the world we live in, including art history and individual artists who have made significant contributions to their respective fields. For the field of public art, these include [Richard Serra], [Janet Echelman], [Donald Lipski], and [Jaume Plensa], to name a few. Ralph Helmick is comparable to other artists that exist on Wikipedia, in terms of body of work, news coverage, and reputation in the field. Do you have thoughts or advice on how this could be better represented in the article? Hpwiki55 (talk) 20:24, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help on a recently edited article on Christian Study Centers[edit]

Good afternoon. I am requesting a re-review because I have read Wikipedia's articles addressing the issues such as sources, tone, and objectivity and have made significant changes to the article on "Christian Study Centers." There are dozens of these buildings across the country, and I believe it is important for the public to become more aware of their existence. Thank you.

Recent ANI[edit]

Before voting or commenting there, had you seen that the proposal of revert restrictions on Binksternet was already withdrawn by Kraxler? Further voting and commenting serves no purpose. It shouldn't be made more lengthy, and we should somehow respect Kraxler's want that he don't want to discuss about it anymore and he had agreed that his proposal did not worked, he had closed it himself but it was reponed by other editor. They have a mutual understanding, not to comment on that proposal anymore. You can still comment on WP:ANI#Binksternet again. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 00:57, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mr. Guye! I have re-submitted my article on Forrest Wheeler for your approval with additional references added to validate the notability of the actor and importance of his role in ABC network television's recent push to enhance diversity in its programming. In this case, by starring on a show about the American immigrant experience from the perspective of an Asian-American family freshly moved to Orlando, FL. References have increased from two to seven. Forrest himself is an accomplished actor with several TV and movie credits to his name. He is a key cast member of ABC's new show 'Fresh Off the Boat' and his work is instrumental in helping ABC spread its message of the importance of diversity and inclusion, albeit from an Asian perspective, across America. The recently launched show, which is similar in format to ABC's other ground-breaking shows 'Cristella' and 'Black-ish', is shaping conversations about American culture and the dissolution of hardened cultural boundaries. All of Forrest's cast member colleagues on the show, Randall Park, Constance Wu, Hudson Yang and Ian Chen have Wikipedia pages. Please let me know if you have any questions or need further information in order to grant approval to "publish" my article. The TV show is receiving solid reviews and it is important that fans can research Forrest's name. Regards, AliceVpellc (talk) 20:28, 6 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mr. Guye! I seem to have made a terrible mistake in addressing the 'citation needed' comment as the article can no longer be located through an internet search. I see the article in my sandbox, but cannot locate it via (ex) Google. What advice can you give me to correct the issue, prevent me from making the same mistake again, and re-publish the article? Thank you, AliceVpellc (talk) 04:16, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Delete uploaded pictures[edit]

Dear Mr. Guye,

During the time where I tried Wikipedia, I uploaded for test purposes two different pictures both named: “WhatToPedia_logo_and_Pay-Off.png”. As I am not a frequent user of Wikipedia nor an administrator, I kindly ask for your help pertaining to the deletion of those files.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Annika Forsberg (talkcontribs) 14:11, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Recent AfD closures[edit]

I'm at a loss as to how you can interpret the discussions about Signpost Corner, Ballacrye Corner and School House Corner as consensus to keep. Please review your closures, which, I note, contain no rationale. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:37, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Amanda McKerrow[edit]

Amanda McKerrow is one of the most famous ballet dancers of her generation and you deleted the article about her as not notable. Seems what we hear is true: Wikipedia is written only by men and only about men. Psantry (talk) 12:50, 10 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Psantry I don't have the power to delete articles. I admit that yes, Wikipedia does have a pro-male systemic bias (see WP:SYSTEMIC) but it usually does not result in deletion of legitimate articles. Checking to see what happened to it. . . --Mr. Guye (talk) 21:57, 10 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Psantry All I'm seeing is that the draft in your sandbox is still intact. After a Google search, I have concluded that Amanda McKerrow is clearly notable. I didn't delete anything, I just declined your article for creation because the only source you listed was IMDb. When I said it wasn't notable, I meant you had not included reliable sources that covered her independently. You should just put sources that meet WP:RS and I'm sure the article will pass. --Mr. Guye (talk) 22:14, 10 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bible Beater[edit]

  • Thanks for the heads up on the bible beater redirect discussion. That redirect was created almost 7 years ago, and I have no idea why I created it, because I personally disagree with the concept of bible beater being something that redirects to Christian (as a Christian my-self), and from a wiki perspective, it is an orphaned redirect, so there is no reason to keep it around. Malice (law) (disambiguation) listed at Redirects for discussion[edit]

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Malice (law) (disambiguation). Since you had some involvement with the Malice (law) (disambiguation) redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so.
