On the CBC

Hi Simon. I recorded your brief moment on the CBC National, the night before Ted Kennedy died. Ironic that the whole piece was dealing with the wrongful reporting of his death in January, on his wikipedia bio. Guess I'll see you at Prue's on Sunday.Abebenjoe (talk) 18:11, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Julian Heller article

Could use your help on the Julian Heller talk page. There are few people trying to delete for non-notiblity. My impression is that any Canadian politician running federally or provincially is allowed to have a page and is considered notable. This certainly was the practice over the past few years.Abebenjoe (talk) 18:29, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Please note that Laurier Bridge is now a disambiguation page. Peter Horn User talk 14:41, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi Simon, i was looking for sources for the article on the Marshall Plan and noticed that this book published in 2007 [1] has phrases with exactly the same wording to the Wikipedia article. I noticed you did some major edits to the article e.g. [2] in 2005. i don´t know if there´s anything we could/should do about this but thought i would let you know, Tom B (talk) 01:19, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

yes was a bit concerned at first that we´d copied from him but then apparent it was the other way round. Also, i´ve just revisited the book and he does credit wikipedia several times so that´s okay; i´ll have to remember to check in future, i assumed the worse scenario as i didn´t think anyone would publish a book saying they copied wikipedia which he does say. he refers to several articles but not the one on Marshall plan, never mind. btw, the Marshall Plan article may currently have the most cleanup tags of any featured article. not that i assume you were going to do this but for interest: [3]. RFC: moving towards extreme exclusionism

Dear SimonP,

You may be interested, there is a RFC on this talk page: Talk:List_of_online_backup_services. Some form of extreme exclusionism appears to emerge, where people argue that items on lists i.e. SAL are only permitted if they have a proper wikipedia article, otherwise they are not deemed worthy for inclusion. Perhaps you'd like to comment. Many thanks!

A tag has been placed on Central Technical School requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ttonyb (talk) 02:49, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Hey, just FYI I'm considering pushing Somalia Affair through for GA status and hopefully get enough improvements and help to hit FA -- but I was hoping you could take a brief look and give me your thoughts on the issue first. Reversing an AfD

Please do not restore articles that were legitimately deleted through AfD. The consensus in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Comparison of Australian and New Zealand governments was to delete all, including Comparison of Canadian and United States governments, which had been nominated in the AfD for the entire time. By restoring you have flagrantly ignored community consensus. The correct procedure for appealing an AfD is WP:DRV, which you should know as an administrator. Your action was inappropriate, especially since you appear to have significantly edited the article, so I have moved it to your userspace pending a likely DRV. \ Backslash Forwardslash / (talk) 03:21, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Expo 67 photos deleted, help!

Hi Simon. It seems that some of the admins don't believe that public domain photos, with no restrictions, are public domain. Take a look at this response, as it was the one that caused the Expo 67 opening ceremonies picture to be deleted:

Comment - The file is not public domain as currently tagged. The file is sourced to this page. That is a Library and Archives Canada page. On this page they state "You do not manipulate and/or modify the material reproduced". This is essentially the same as the ND attribute of the Creative Commons Licenses. In order for the file to be public domain, it has to be able to be modified.--Rockfang (talk) 20:21, 22 October 2009 (UTC) What can we do to keep this from happening?--Abebenjoe (talk) 20:46, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for mediating

I was getting a bit snappy, but this has carried over from another article that CreativeSoul was griping over (Semitic). I know that doesn't excuse my behavior, though. Ian.thomson (talk) 21:15, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

People "gripe" over sources that are unreliable. See Talk on the Semitic page. Ethnic Iranians, Armenians, and Iranian Kurds are NOT Semitic. --CreativeSoul7981 (talk) 18:39, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Magi Article Revert

I could use some input from you on this topic. The Magi refer to Medo-Persians and other Indo-European/Iranians within the Empire. The Greek Herodotus lived with the Persians. His writings all reflect his dealings with Iranian peoples, which include Scythians. I only asked that the ONE inflammatory phrase be removed, since it is highly misleading. I would welcome other people to take a look at this. It is very misleading to perpetuate the myth that a Magi was Ethiopian, Chinese, etc. It's just not true. Ethiopian priests were NOT Magi. Magi have a distinct culture tied to Persian heritage. Zoroastrians celebrate The Messiah, and the story is that the Magi looked to the stars (which they had knowledge of) and through faith, found Jesus Christ. Using words like "likely" make something "certain", which is wrong, especially when it's not based on fact or scholarly evidence.

Furthermore, this other poster seems to be following me from page to page, just reverting my edits. He seems to be trying to push Iranians into the semitic category (which ethnic Iranians are not) and making claims about Magi being Ethiopian, etc. Why anyone would believe that slaves were allowed to be Zoroastrian priests is beyond me. I don't know. I still propose the deletion of that one phrase. I had left the rest of the quote and sources intact. There was no reason for Ian.thomson (talk) to revert the edit. I will, however, leave this for discussion. If you can offer any other thoughts on this, that would be great. I just thought that there should be a way to rephrase that section or something. There are no other sources that show Herodotus writing about another group of people other than the Greeks. It's the author's sole supposition. Thank you for contributing. It's much appreciated.--CreativeSoul7981 (talk) 18:48, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Dbachmann for Ian.thomson (talk)'s senseless attacks on me. I left a response on Dbachmann's page and I'm waiting for more mediators to help out. I do NOT think references from debunked scientists should be used on Wikipedia, especially since they are not accepted by the scientific community. There is no basis for Ian.thomson (talk) reverting those edits and he is close to violating the rules. As you can see, I have not resorted to swearing or following the user all over Wikipedia, trolling and reverting edits out of spite. I actually invited other Wikipedia users into this discussion. I will contribute to discussion, but I will not abuse the 3RR rule. I thought I'd make that clear in case Ian.thomson (talk) goes back on your page and starts accusing me. I appreciate your fairness and calm attitude you bring to discussion. Now I know why, you're Canadian! Are you by chance French-Canadian?--CreativeSoul7981 (talk) 00:38, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

You insist that I seem "to be trying to push Iranians into the semitic category (which ethnic Iranians are not) and making claims about Magi being Ethiopian, etc" despite my comments:
"It isn't saying Iranians are totally Semitic and totally not Indo-European, it's saying that a number of Semitic and Indo-European groups show signs of being related" in the Semitic talk page, and:
"At no point does it say that the Magi were from Africa" and "Noone at any point said that the Magi were an Ethiopian group" in the Magi talk page,
I'm going to assume your selective reading is probably accidental, but it is something you need to work on. Ian.thomson (talk) 02:38, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

I mentioned the Ethiopians because of the quote, and your support of leaving the phrase "It is, therefore, quite likely that the sacerdotal caste of the Magi was distinct from the Median tribe of the same name." in the article. See, there is no way to change a quote as that is wrong. Also, the author is discussing Herodotus, who was writing about the Persians (Medo-Persians, Persians, Scythians) while living with them. So the author's supposition that the Magi could have been Ethiopian (not of the Persian Empire) is just outrageous. Africans were slaves in those times in the empire, and if they had their own priests, they weren't Magi. Magi does not refer to Africans. I read what you wrote, and I provided some good links from universities. Maybe you should read my other links yourself. I'm not sure how many more I should provide or mention which History Channel documentaries that discuss this topic at length (some which coincidentally air around the Christmas holiday) . Why would the sacerdotal caste of the Magi be different from Medo-Persians or within the Iranian peoples. Many living in Bactria were most likely Persian, as it was under the Persian Empire, but Ethiopia and Samaria are big stretches. The Magi would not include non Indo-European/Iranian peoples to be made priests. The racial and cultural unity was and is very much a part of Zoroastrian dogma. That's all I'm saying.

Moreover, this is for SimonP (talk): I didn't say to remove the cited source or even the whole quote. Only to consider removing the one phrase, because "likely" is a very strong word and implies factual information with no room for disagreement. That's biased. I think I backed up what I argued with the above sources from universities. And Zaehner can't be the only Oxford scholar. I don't think if something is a theory, that words like "definitely", "likely", "always", etc. should be used, even if they are quotes. I'm not removing anything, but I wanted to put this out there for others to read and to join the discussion. I will continue to look for more sources for backup. I thank you for your patience and guidance. --CreativeSoul7981 (talk) 05:38, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion of Association ofJewish Refugees

Dear Mr. Pulsifer,

I added last Friday, 26th of February, an article about the Association of Jewish Refugees to Wikipedia, which was deleted by you immediately. As I understand it was deleted due to unambiguous copyright infringement. I am, however, working for the Association of Jewish Refugees and I used information from their webpage, www.ajr.org.uk, on their behalf.

Because the Association of Jewish Refugees writes the article itself, we do agree that the information from our website is used and there is no copyright infringement.

For this reason could you please so kind and undo the deletion of the article about the Association of Jewish Refugees or give us a possibility to prove that we are the AJR and that we do agree that the information about the AJR can be used in the Wikipedia article about the AJR.

Thank you very much for your co-operation.

Kind regards,

A plea to save a well referenced article.

Hi! I hope you are feeling fine! I would like to bring about your attention on my recent created article Betinternet. It is currently being tagged for speedy deletion. As I understand that you are an inclusionist by nature, please take your time to review this article and remove the speedy deletion tag. An admin who is a deletionist placed it there. Also this article have been created at least 3 times before but they were deleted due to various concerns. Now, I have polished this article, providing lots of references. If you disagree with its notability, then at least this article should be in WP:AfD for a more thorough discussion and to reach a consensus. Cheers! --Siva1979Talk to me 10:04, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

David Lewis article

Could you please support the FA vote for David Lewis (politician). There aren't any real issues being brought up, but neither are people overwhelmed to support it. It's a feature quality article, but most people that look at FA requests, couldn't care less about Canadian politicians.Abebenjoe (talk) 01:00, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

ANI discussion related to your edits

This is a courtesy call, pointing out this ANI thread which discusses edits of yours. You are welcome to contribute to the discussion, but are not obligated to reply by any means.

I guess personally, I would like to know why you restored your articles without further discussion, even though the community 5 years ago decided they were not appropriate content for our project. Would you be OK with restoring the redirects, pending further discussion on your restoration proposal? -Andrew c [talk] 21:54, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

  • You have undone many redirects against consensus. This is clearly disruptive, as you are wasting many editor's time fixing your edits. Please do not repeat this, or you may be blocked from editing. If you wish to make an edit that conflicts with a previous community decision, please discuss it first. Black Kite (t) (c) 23:06, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
  • While I think having religious text on Wikipedia is a nice, possibly a good idea, I do not think it should be done against consensus and in a sneaky and disruptive way. As an admin, you should know that and should know better. Please do not repeat this again. If you wish the edits to be there, change the consensus, but don't edit war. - NeutralHomerTalk • 23:36, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Matthew

I want to make something clear. I have nothing against religious texts of any kind, especially Matthew. Being a Lutheran, I am taught of the Christian text each and every Sunday, so don't think I am doing this out of any religious spite. I firmly believe if there were consensus for the chapters of the Bible, Torah and other books of religions, I would be right behind you fighting for it. But when it comes to ANI and we see ArbCom decisions and consensus, we have to go with it. Maybe in 4 years consensus has changed, I don't know, but that is something you will have to find out yourself. If there isn't consensus, perhaps, like I said on ANI, you should ask Jimbo or whoever is in charge of getting WMF projects/wikis started if a Wiki (WikiReligion would be a good name) about the religions of the world is necessary. It wouldn't come without great conflict being Religion is right up with Politics in the subjects you do not talk about....that and Fight Club. But just so you know, I would gladly welcome Matthew and all the books of the Bible to en.Wiki...as long as the Torah, Qu'ran and other religions texts quickly followed. - NeutralHomerTalk • 00:46, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JALatimer (talkcontribs) 04:03, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
"Maybe in 4 years consensus has changed, I don't know, but that is something you will have to find out yourself." -- Why not help him find out if the consensus has changed? And it seems to me there are only something like 4 or 5 people to begin with who are making this "consensus". -- JALatimer 04:06, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Let's keep all these discussions in one area, shall we? - NeutralHomerTalk • 04:10, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Chretien Ad.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Chretien Ad.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:34, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

I have nominated Avalon (webcomic), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Avalon (webcomic) (2nd nomination). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Clive Doucet and the NDP

Hi Simon, I seem to be having a conflict over whether or not Clive Doucet has supported the NDP in the past. I am pretty sure he has (and has even been a member). I was wondering if you knew anything about this, and if so if there's some good sources for this information. Have you ever read it in the newspaper? I could definitely do some research. -- Earl Andrew - talk 06:26, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
