[edit] Kaelan Joyce
Thank you for sorting out the Kaelan Joyce article. Very much appreciated!
We tried but could not get the exteranl links part sorted!
Once again Thank you for your time and effort. :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.166.200.76 (talk) 00:27, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
[edit] Stateless (band)
Hello, I saw you assesed the Stateless (band) article from Stub class to Start class. I am aware of the criteria being used to asses certain articles, but I would like to know what in particular made you choose for Start class for this article. I actually want to know where I should work on harder or if I'm doing something wrong, or what is needed for this to be a better article. I read all the wikipedia guides and all, but you know, it's not always that easy. My only goal is to contribute to the article and try to only use verifiable sources and facts. I just need to know a little better how to improve this, to let's say a C-class article (1 step at the time!). Thanks! Hans (talk) 16:23, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
- (in response to your answer on my talk) Ok, thanks alot. I'll try to add more content, and when their new album will be released I'm sure lots of new sources to cite will pop up. I'll try to add how they formed (found an article about that) and make a "musical style" section, which seems common for most band articles. And I'm thinking of asking a native English speaker to rewrite most of the text, my English is too average to really make this a better article. But I'll do my best the next couple of months and I'll ask for a new assessment when I think it might be ready for a C-class article. But having a good base structure and already having all the facts (verifiably) sourced is a good start for a better article, I believe. Thanks for your time! Hans (talk) 16:50, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Layout of Neanderthal references
Mr. Bradbury, I see that you have just done a major cleanup of the markup structures in the Neanderthal article. The Neanderthal article is the kind of article that I love to read in Wikipedia, and so I really appreciate your work. I have a question regarding the ordering of the References section citations. In all other wikipedia articles I have read (maybe 50), references (as opposed to notes) are sorted in alphabetical order. I find no rhyme or reason in the current References order in the article. What am I missing? (I am a new editor, and seeing that your work displays mastery of wikipedia rules and processes, I feel good about asking you.) Thanks in advance for your answer.Middle Fork (talk) 22:09, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
-
- Got your note, checked the Neanderthal article. Great!! Thanks. Had I been more secure, I would have done it myself when I first noticed the problem. I will be more bold in the future. By the way, I wish the initial editors had not embedded the vast majority of full references in the notes field. Makes it very difficult to quickly scan to make sure the key players in various sub-controversies are being recognized in the article. But when I made that suggestion, it was rejected by someone who, I felt, had developed uncomfortable "ownership" vibes.Middle Fork (talk) 04:33, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Shama's quote in French Revolution
Tom, the flame of Reason quote you give from Shama's book Citizens (I presume) is on p. 778 in my 1989 publ. book: yours is on p. 658. Cordialement, Frania W. (talk) 23:59, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- You mean that 1989 & 2004 editions have that much page difference, my 778 is your 658? Total pages in my book, incl. sources/bibliography/index, is 950. FW/ Frania W. (talk) 00:09, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Assessment of David Berkeley
Hi Tom. Thank you for your assessment on the David Berkeley article and for the formatting of the reflist. If you have time, do you have any advice on how I could further improve the article? Thank you. McMarcoP (talk) 08:11, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Tom, thank you for your suggestions. The point is, I am not able to find any negative review of Berkeley's work, at least online. I am sure that there are some, though, and I will keep looking. Also - I will try to add some image, maybe a scan of an album cover. I am constantly expanding it, every time that there is some update anyway (the ATL group is yesterday's news - literally) and will keep doing so. Thank you very much! McMarcoP (talk) 10:25, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Sharon Kay Penman
Hi. Yesterday you rated the Sharon Kay Penman article that I took from a stub. Today the rating was changed to a C because of the skimpy lead. I've reworked the lead. If you get a chance, do you mind swinging by and having a look? Thanks. Truthkeeper88 (talk) 22:39, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the very speedy reaction and the extra set of eyes to fix the mistakes. I'm fairly certain it is Richard the Lionheart but will spend some time verifying. Thanks again. Truthkeeper88 (talk) 23:42, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Rian Malan
I thought I had thanked you here for correcting duplicate links on Rian Malan - but my post seems to have gone missing. So, thanks again! Did you rate the article as a "start" class? If you have any specific tips or criticism, I'd like to hear about it; I thought I had done most of it to a higher standard, but I am new to this, so I appreciate any advice you may have. --SkaraB 08:25, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Cite format in Planetary Nebula
I see what looks to me a good way to handle multiple cites to the same source in an article. See Cat's Eye Nebula where the footnotes can call out specific page numbers and use harvard ref to the citation which is only given once. I like how each part is a link and the cite is page specific.
What do you think of doing likewise in Planetary nebula? Also, why not link to Sun Kwok in the cites? He is considered an expert on the topic, what is harm in links? Thanks.

[edit] ENIAC grade downgrade
Just out of curiosity, what resulted in the re-evaluation of the ENIAC article from A to B? Are you involved with both the computing and the Philadelphia wikiprojects? Does an article necessarily have to have the same grade for all projects, or do different wikiprojects use different ratings scales? Robert K S (talk) 01:35, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not sure about the reliability section, but the patent portion is unreferenced because it is merely a summary of a longer article (with the link provided at the top of that section). This is basically the same rule as the one that states that citations are inappropriate in the lead of an article if the material is covered more thoroughly and referenced later in the article. Robert K S (talk) 06:42, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
[edit] AutoRun article downgrade
I think I know what prompted the downgrade from A to B - the non encylopedic tag added by someone to the AutoRun#Attack mitigation section. I did disagree with the tag but rewrote the section anyway, following the style of some featured articles that have also used lists. I rewrote the thing about 3 times actually but think I have it right at this point. It would be nice if the article got its A rating back and if you could advise how to achieve FA rating on this article I'd appreciate it. Carveone (talk) 19:07, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Lack of citations? Ok, that came as a bit of a surprise given the number of citations within the article (33). When I initially wrote the AutoRun and AutoPlay articles I was reluctant to overcite - one I cited a statement I rarely repeated the cite, thinking I would be cluttering the article with citation points. But, looking at other FA marked computer articles, there pretty much cite every other statement they make! Maybe one day, if I have time.... Carveone (talk) 15:54, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Arius article assessment
Thanks so much for taking the time to assess the Arius article; I appreciate your imput on it. Just out of curiosity, what kept it from gaining a "B" classification? Hi. Thanks for your assessment of the Ercole Manfredi article. [edit] Wikipedia:Unreviewed featured articles
Ack ... I removed your edit because I have to figure out how to fix that. The original list was generated by Dr pda-- may be some glitch that missed that one. But all the numbers in that section add to 315, when they should be 314: to fix that, I have to go back and adjust the entire chart from the beginning, to reflect the new 314 tally-- afraid to face that task tonight, but we can't just remove an error without fixing it all the way back-- ugh! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:16, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
- I'll think on it when my brain is fresher tomorrow, but maybe just removing it and footnoting the new tally will be better than redoing entire chart ... have to think on it. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:26, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

[edit] Assessments Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 10th Earl of Shaftesbury and Elaine Hamilton-O'Neal
Thank you for the recent assessments of Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 10th Earl of Shaftesbury and Elaine Hamilton-O'Neal. I appreciate the work that you are doing. For my future reference, could you direct me to the MOS regarding image sizing and formatting of references or citations in articles? I'm finding a bit of inconsistency between individuals assessing articles. I would really like to improve my editing and alignment with the MOS. Could you also provide a link that will let me know how to format the references in the manner that you revised? I haven't the foggiest idea how to do that and I cringe to think that I added work on your part. Any information you could provide that would improve the article is greatly appreciated. Thanks again! ;) Cindamuse (talk) 16:51, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Elaine Hamilton-O'Neal
Thanks for the feedback on the assessments of Anthony Ashley-Cooper and Elaine Hamilton-O'Neal at my talk page. Images, refs, what not. I'm definitely going to start using the reflinks bot for citations. I agree with the assessments. Although, I didn't expect the B assessment on AAC. I guess it was better than I thought. I had the biggest trouble finding any photos of Hamilton or her work that I could use. Doesn't lend much to an interesting article of an artist, in my opinion, but I did what I could. Thanks again. I appreciate the work that you are doing. Cindamuse (talk) 17:50, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Assassination of Franz Ferdinand
Thank you for your work on references and citations.
There is a problem, however, with you first edit that now places General Verasinins crushing of the last Bosnian peasant uprising after Princip spending full nights at Zerajic's grave. Actually, part of the reason that future Serb assassins worshipped at his grave is that General Verasinin became particularly hated (not encyclopedic, I know) as a result of the crushing of that uprising. So, while you were attempting to correct a time-line, you actually didn't and the implied causality now is completely lost.
I'd like to reverse that first edit you made.Werchovsky (talk) 18:16, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Mentioning the aborted attempt on Franz-Joseph adds little to the article so I guess I should drop it. Then the section is chronological except for the last sentence which is a statement of causality...because Z tried to kill (the now even more hated) General V and then committed suicide rather than be captured he was an inspiration to Princip (who later assassinated FF and then tried to commit suicide).
It seems you are adept at citations and references. If so, and if you have time, cleaning up the citations and references in the Assassination of Franz Ferdinand article would be most helpful The good article reviewer insisted on footnoting quite a few additional sentences; this caused multiple sentences to have the same citation and I am not quite sure how to treat that. Also, some of the reference books are so old they have no ISBN number and there was some complaint about that...there was some other number the GA reviewer wanted in its place but I don't know where to find such numbers. One of the books is not even in the Library of Congress (I could only find it at the Hoover and Princeton), I don't think it has any kind of identification number. I felt I had to cite the primary source, because, although the important material is already picked up in secondary sources, there is a prominent Russian article that lied about what was in the primary source.Werchovsky (talk) 20:38, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Regarding this edit... does it not make more sense to allow the column width to be defined by each individual's screen resolution and browser window size? → ROUX ₪ 12:40, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
- colwidth allows the number of columns to adjust to fit each individual's resolution and browser size. otherwise if you force it 2 columns it doesn't take account of the individual's resolution. see template:reflist, kind regards Tom B (talk) 12:45, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Re: changes to Sarah Palin
Specifically, this regards removing the dubious tag. Here's a quick history: at some point, probably around 2008 when our obsession with Palin hit critical mass, someone put together an article entitled List of mayors of Wasilla, Alaska. This has since been merged into the main article on Wasilla. Take a look at that list. Wasilla was incorporated as a city in early 1974. The first mayor listed assumed office in late 1983. That's a gap encompassing almost a full decade. In other words, if Palin is listed as the 5th mayor of Wasilla, that's merely a case of Wikipedia editors creating their own reality out of a lack of doing proper research in the first place. The list has read like many others on Wikipedia - what's on there is reflective of what someone was able to find via their Google search, and it's apparently not important that in doing so, they've created a mess for someone else to clean up.RadioKAOS (talk) 02:01, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, I did notice that you made a comment to the effect of not finding mention on the talk page. I first brought up on Talk:Wasilla, Alaska on May 11, 2010 that the list of mayors was nowhere near complete. The response (or perhaps more appropriately lack thereof) suggests that Wikipedia is akin to The Story of Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. The same point was brought up on Talk:Sarah Palin on February 24, 2011. The reason you didn't see it was that the page is frequently archived, and I don't have those kinds of hours in my day to keep belaboring a point to people who appear to be more interested in parroting every corporate media nugget they can get their hands on than in things such as historical accuracy. The rankings were removed from the other Wasilla mayor pages (e.g. Stein, Keller, Rupright). That person probably failed to notice that Palin's article was similarly tagged. I've been trying to do it myself, but it won't save the page for some reason.RadioKAOS (talk) 02:35, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Number Theory
Can you give us some details as to when, how and why the article was rated as C-class? Garald (talk) 13:24, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
I see. The situation is as follows. Up to a about a month ago, there was a page with which there was widespread unsatisfaction, especially among specialists; see the talk page. The following comment is typical: "Actually, I think this article is rather bad. So bad I've mostly never dared improving it. I think little justification is required to restart from scratch. I have no idea why this article is rated a B. I would recommend the re-write be done in a sandbox first, though (at least to get it to some level). RobHar (talk) 22:07, 4 July 2010 (UTC)".
A consensus was reached for a fresh start. About a month ago, I put up a new version that has, on the main, been accepted; see, again, the talk page and the edits done to the main page. What is particularly encouraging is that specialists are editing the page again.
So, you see, in this context, an off-the-cuff C-rating comes as a bit of a blow. Please reconsider.
Further comments are welcome. Garald (talk) 15:29, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
[edit] GA review for Ludwig Wittgenstein
Hello! I have reviewed this article; you can see the review at Talk:Ludwig Wittgenstein/GA1. Please don't be offended that I closed the review without allowing time for improvements - I only did that because, once improvements are made, I would like to redo the review from scratch in order to make sure that this excellent article gets all the attention it deserves. Thank you for working on it, and happy editing! --Cerebellum (talk) 11:42, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
- Wow, good job! Thank you for your prompt response. I still think it would be nice to have a "Reception" or "Legacy" section though - what do you think? --Cerebellum (talk) 09:09, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
