Looking for title of Scandinavian film about colonists in or near Jerusalem
Hello,
I can't remember the title of a film I saw a few years ago. It was about religious colonists from Scandinavia(probably Swedish) who settled in or near Jerusalem. The movie took place in both Palestine and Scandinavia. I remember one young female colonist being rather ill and delirious, and she wanted to drink nothing except water from a very specific source, and then some guy (who was probaby in love with her) tricked her into believing it was water from that source. I also remember the same girl believing she saw the Messiah in the streets of Jerusalem. In order to stop her obsession with him, he shows her what he really is : a man meeting up with other men at night to engage in "obscure activities". She is angry that he didn't let her believe. Right after she leaves him and goes off on her own, he is attacked by some of the men (I think he even loses an eye?) He then goes back with her to Scandinavia, where one of the men in their party discovers that his wife had been telling everyone that their child (born while he was gone) was very ill. He tells her that there is nothing wrong with the child and has it baptised. Can anyone help? Evilbu 00:29, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
- Might be Jerusalem [1], based on books by Selma Lagerlöf. There's no wikipedia article though, and I can't vouch for the plot details apart from the general one. /Kriko 11:48, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Several questions...
1. This game, described here, is apparently very, very rare; GOOGLE could hardly find anything. I request more information, such as a list of the characters in the Street Fighter 2 clone, (character page is shown,) and preferably also, if there is some loophole, a download of the NES rom. Thank you.
2. Where is a download of the Star Wars: Empire at War (NOT the Forces of Corruption expansion) map editor? Thanks.
3. Where is a download of the Windows pre-compiled version of the game Xpilot. Thank you.

300 dvd release
According to IGN.com, will the movie 300 (by Zack Snyder) be released in DVD(single and two disc) and HD-dvd/dvd combo.
What does HD-dvd/dvd combo means? HD-dvd and a dvd in one box???—Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.239.172.228 (talk • contribs)
- Usually, one disc with HD-DVD on one side, and a DVD on the other. You flip the disc over depending on which you want to watch. A Very Noisy Lolcat 09:30, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
Final Sun "scripting" ?
Right so i have this program thats basically a map editor for Command and Conquer: TIberian Sun. The program is called "Final Sun"...... its fairly easy to figure out how to make things like cliffs and water and place objects, however.... i ran into a problem, and i posted it on their forum but havent got a reply for over 2 weeks, so i figured i should try here. To the chase....
Problem: I am creating a map for use in 8 "player" skrimishes (7 AI computers + me).... I want to place infantry in a few places on the map, and set it so the first "player" to bump into them gets them on their side. theres supposed to be an automatic thing that does it for me, but apparantly the people who made the program forgot to complete that script? Anyway, i can place the troops just fine, its just a question of how to transfer it to the person who revealed them first. I read tons of stuff in the help manual and it didnt help. anyone have any ideas?

Chicago Gangster Style Movies?
Im interested in trying to find some movies based on Chicago style gangs. It seems to me that i have this image of it from my childhood, thanks to looney tunes or some other cartoon show..... where the gangsters are carrying gatling guns and one gangster says something like "It's coitons(curtains) for you Mugsy, coitons!"
I know its cheesy but i find it to be funny, sorta like B-movies are. Are there any movies out that actually have people with that kind of accent, or is the cartoon just making an extreme spoof? If anyone knows of any movie titles please let me know/link them. :)
172.164.158.139 21:35, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
- That cartoon is Racketeer Rabbit (according to IMDb, Bugs Bunny says "It's coitains for ya, Rocky! Coitains!"). As for gangster films, there are so many, although I'm not really sure about the accents: Scarface, Little Caesar (Edward G. Robinson: "Mother of mercy, is this the end of Rico?"), even Robin and the 7 Hoods for a more light-hearted take. You could also check out List of crime films. Clarityfiend 08:59, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Categorizing Action Figures & TV Series/Movies
Several movies and TV series have had action figure or toy lines based on them. Many of the figure lines aren't notable enough for their own article, but the movie/TV articles include a section describing them. I've been adding many of these TV/movie articles under the Action Figures category and have considered adding Toys of the 1980s/1990s as well. Examples include Dick Tracy (film) and Blackstar (TV series). Is this appropriate?
Also, I'm curious about properties that have an action figure article, such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures and Batman action figures. Should their individual articles for specific movies or TV series be placed under the Action Figures category as well? Cale 21:51, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Trying to ID a martial arts movie
When I was a kid (about 25 years ago) I recall seeing a martial arts movie on TV that I'd like to look up and see again. The main protagonist was a Chinese guy who wore a loose blue top and black pants throughout the film. The "gimmick" of the movie was this: he had to face several (six or seven) top Japanese martial arts masters, one after the other, in order to win the girl or the money or whatever it was. There was a ninja, a sumo, a karate expert, etc. He fought one each day. The movie was probably old at the time I saw it (i.e. from the 70s). I can provide more detail if needed. Matt Deres 01:21, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- I remember a movie with this plot called Heros of the east. --Czmtzc 14:54, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- Wow, that sure sounds like the movie I described, but I'm sure there was a sumo among the warriors. Part of the gimmick was that there would be a battle each day and most of the warriors met at dawn or something to begin the fight. The sumo used it as a technicality and started his fight right at midnight, while the Chinese guy was still tired from his previous battle. Maybe I'm confusing two flicks, but I don't think so. Nice catch, but I don't think that's the movie I'm remembering. Matt Deres 16:08, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I remember the midnight fight too, although I don't recall the style. Just because it might not have been in the review I gave you, I still think n you might like to try the movie. After looking at Heroes_of_the_East the wiki article, I think we are both thinking of the Judo vs peanut oil battle. ---Czmtzc 16:48, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- I think you're right. :) If this isn't the movie I'm thinking of, then it's an amazingly close coincidence! Thanks for the help; I'll try looking for a copy and see for myself. Matt Deres 10:30, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
The Fountain
I am looking for academic interpretations of Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain to include in the article. I have not had much luck finding any interpretations and was wondering where I could look for film studies databases. I have checked a few databases like JSTOR, but have not been able to find anything. I am not sure if it is because the film is fairly recent (released last Nov. 2006) and has not entailed a look by scholars, especially in combination with its limited and poorly-received debut. Can anyone help find any specific academic articles, or at least point me in the right direction? —Erik (talk • contrib) - 18:00, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

can't remember this movie
I only saw the end of it. A man with amnesia resulting from a railroad(?) accident is blackmailed by someone who claims to have proof that he was involved in a crime before the accident. In the end he recognizes that it's a scam because a photograph, purportedly taken before the accident, shows him with his new hairstyle: he changed it to cover a scar. — This movie was almost certainly made before 1960. I think most of its events took place in France. Anyone know the title? —Tamfang 22:37, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- In a Google search on amnesia, blackmail, and site:imdb.com, the first hit is The Seventh Commandment (1960). Could that be it? Doesn't seem to be set in France, though. --Anonymous, July 23, 22:59 (UTC).
- I don't remember the religious element, but I guess it could be. —Tamfang 23:36, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

- Most mobile phone providers in Australia offer music downloads/stores, although they don't work via SMS as far as I know. Film based on _Beowulf_ shown on UK TV at Christmas, Channel 4 or 5
There was a film based on the Beowulf myth shown on British TV this last Christmas time, some days after Christmas day, on either Channel Four or Five. I missed the first section of it but had enjoyed the rest and wished to watch it again. I seem to remember researching it online on either here or imdb.com and reading something along the lines of the film being produced by the film studio after the success of the Lord of the Rings trilogy proving that fantasy films can work at the box office, and was released sometime over the last few years. Anyway, if anyone knows the name or has any ideas please pass on the details, thanks, David. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 79.73.63.109 (talk • contribs) 01:10, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

PS3 Question
I was just perusing the PS3 article and read that the 60 GB version is being cut and that the 80 GB version will be replacing it in the US once the stocks are out. I don't have a major problem with this in itself, I am a little miffed I could've gotten 20 GB more for the same price as my 60 GB PS3, but I did have one small concern. I just wanted to know, all future games will work with the old 60 GB version, correct? Thanks. DoomsDay349 23:33, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- It's the 20 GB versions that are being cut. The 60 and 80 GB version should have no differences other than the increased harddrive space, but both have a good deal of improvements over the 20 GB vesions. And I thought they lowered the price of the 60 GB version to $499 recently (possibly due to low sales). But yes, all games should work with the 60 GB and the 80 GB, but might not be as good on the 20 GB, unless of course, there's some weird game that require more than 60 GB of space. --Wirbelwindヴィルヴェルヴィント (talk) 03:07, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- It's all a bit confusing . . . (All the following is regarding the US market, not sure how other sales regions are/have been affected). The 20GB PS3, which used to sell for $499, was discontinued back in April (http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2007/04/10/sony-to-consumers-the-600-ps3-is-the-only-way-to-fly). Earlier this month Sony recently announced that the price of the 60GB PS3 would be cut from $599 to $499 and that an 80GB model would go on sale in August at $599. Then, they subsequently announced that the 60GB model was being phased out, and would no longer be produced for the American market, however they think they have enough inventory "for the foreseeable future." (more info: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070713-the-vanishing-ps3-price-drop-soon-only-one-600-ps3-remains.html). I would not anticipate any compatibility problems with future PS3 games. --LarryMac | Talk 17:52, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

When was the Simpsons first translated?
When did the Simpsons first appear outside the USA? When was it first dubbed/subtitled for another market?
More generally, how long does an American TV show have to run and how popular must it be to be translated into another language? I'm sometimes surprised to learn that certain TV shows are completely unknown in non-Anglophone markets, whereas others are so popular. Bhumiya (said/done) 02:26, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- Probably not what you're looking for, but the technical answer to your first question is that both the Tracey Ullman Show and the Simpsons show proper were shown in Canada at the same time as they were shown in the US. Obviously, no translation was required for most of Canada, but it is translated for the Quebec market (and also for the Mexican one). Those were probably the two earliest dubbings, though I don't know when they began. Matt Deres 10:40, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- Some shows are dubbed and shown during the same season they are shown in the U.S. - such as Lost and 24. Others have a preset lag of 2-6 months, such as game shows and soap operas. For the Simpsons, it wasn't a matter of dubbing - it was a matter of being purchased. For example, it wasn't dubbed into French until a French market purchased rights to the series and then went through the trouble of dubbing it. -- Kainaw(what?) 16:25, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- Then I suppose I am confused as to why some shows, even ones which would seem difficult for non-Anglophones to comprehend, are traded widely (e.g. Family Guy, which has all sorts of allusions that must be lost in translation), while others seem to be completely unknown outside of Anglophone markets (e.g. The Venture Bros. and a lot of other Cartoon Network programs). Is it purely a matter of ratings, or are some networks less connected internationally? Bhumiya (said/done) 17:54, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- It all depends on the advertising dollar. If some television station in Elbonia can get advertisers lined up to pay for advertising for Family Guy, then the station will put in a bid to purchase episodes of Family Guy. It isn't common to see this inside the United States because of the vast number of shows we have that simply don't get aired. There is little incentive to gamble on a dubbed show. It does happen frequently in other countries though. -- Kainaw(what?) 18:34, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- Just found out - Simpsons appeared in France in 1990[4], in Italy in 1991[5], and so on... you can check all the versions of Wikipedia to see the start dates. -- Kainaw(what?) 02:33, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Dire Straits Romeo and Juliet Lyrics
Hi,
I am looking for the correct lyrics to the song "Romeo and Juliet", by Dire Straits. There are so many versions on the web, and most of them seem to be questionable. Can anyone help?
Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Julietsong (talk • contribs)
- Most lyric sites are blatant copyvios, so I don't think you will get much in the way of links here. That song is rather simple though, is there a particular bit you are unsure of? I think I could come up with a reasonably complete set just by memory. 161.222.160.8 23:10, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed. If you have a question about a particular section, post it. I have a couple different versions of the song from various Dire Straits CDs. Dismas|(talk) 14:53, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- I particularly love the way they shrug off one of the greatest loves in history with the lines "You promised me thick and thin, yeah now you just oh Romeo yeah i used to have a scene with him" - I just love the idea of it. I guess it depends on the version but I rather like songmeanings.net as a site for lyrics - though I must say it is often questionably good quality. ny156uk 17:24, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if you're taking into account the fact that the song isn't strictly based on the Shakespeare play. It's also based on a relationship of Knopfler's. Dismas|(talk) 17:55, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Knopfler does have a habit of slurring his words to a live audience (check out the brilliant "Thagyoooooo" before Sultans of swing on Alchemy Live), so I recommend the studio version of Romeo and Juliet over any live version if you're trying to work out the lyrics. --Dweller 17:28, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
License plates in Commercials
I wasn't sure where to put this, so I put it here since it involves commercials. In the United States, car commercials had cars with no license plates for as long as I can remember, however lately they have had license plates but they are painted over the same colour as the car, allowing you to only see the letters/numbers in a certain lights. I've only noticed this in Toyota commercials (I think), but it might be in others.
My question is why did they start doing this, I can't find anything on Google.
Thanks a lot, --Anthonysenn 23:30, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

- In order to show it, the television stations need to find advertisers to pay for it. The advertisers have to believe that their target audience will watch it. Apparently, the advertisers do not believe their target audience will watch it. -- Kainaw(what?) 16:59, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- Also, many nations have banned the show due to its mocking of certain cultures. This is true of some Middle Eastern countries after an episode ran mocking Osama Bin Laden. Other countries that have banned Family Guy outright are: Armenia, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Iran, Thailand, Belarus, South Africa, Egypt, Philippines, Serbia and Montenegro, Vietnam, Taiwan, People’s Republic of China (PRC), Albania, and South Korea.--Sethacus 19:31, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Movie set in Africa
I can't recall the title or any of the actors, but it was probably made in the 50s or early 60s and was in Technicolor. It followed a military man through the jungle, pursued by a band of warriors. Actor playing someone playing themselves
Yesterday, I was wondering whether there were any films or other media where an actor had played an impersonator of themselves (e.g. if Elvis had starred in a movie, playing an Elvis impersonator). Then, a post on the Science Ref Desk had me looking at Airplane!, in which Ethel Merman appears as a solider who thinks he's Ethel Merman, and reminded me of the Simpsons episode Stark Raving Dad, where Michael Jackson voices a character who's in the asylum for thinking he's Michael Jackson. So, have there been any other notable roles where a character has impersonated, or believed themselves to be, the person playing the role? Confusing Manifestation 04:57, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
