Veteran is a village in central Alberta, Canada. It is located 200 km east of the city of Red Deer.

Veteran is located on Highway 12, 24km from Consort to the East, and 24km from Coronation to the West. It is lies at the cross grid roads of Township 352, Range Road 85

Education

Veteran School goes from K-9. There are 65 kids in Veteran School. There are extra curricular sports team for junior high students to join if they choose to. After students have completed Grade 9 they can choose to go to a high school. Most students go to Consort because a bus goes from Veteran to Consort picking and dropping off students daily. Everyone is required to take the four core subjects in Veteran School. There are also five option classes available for the junior high: sewing, band, foods, computers and current events.

Amenities

There is a hall, a grocery store, a bank, a post office, a fire hall, two playgrounds, two restaurants, a school, an auction mart, a curling rink, an indoor rink, skateboard park, bar, two churches, three baseball fields, and two soccer fields.

Sports

Many sports are played in Veteran. They include: Slow-Pitch Baseball, Fastball, Curling, Soccer, Skating, Ice Hockey, Hunting, Dirt-Biking, and Belly Dancing.

Attractions

Some attractions in Veteran are The Campsite, The Museum, and The Auction Market. The Auction Market brings in a lot of people because there aren't many Auction Markets in this area. The Campsite allows people to stay over night on a long trip, which is run by the Village of Veteran. The Museum is located on the west side of High-way 884.

Attractions near by

There are lots of things to do in nearby Consort and Coronation, which are both about a 15 minute drive from Veteran. In Consort there is a dance academy, Hockey teams for all ages, and bowling teams. There is also a swimming pool in both Consort and Coronation that opens in May and closes when summer is over. There are more stores and banks in Consort then there are in Veteran. There is also a hospital in Coronation and Consort. Both have a dance school, baseball teams, soccer teams and there is also more stores and restaurants than in Veteran.

Weather

The weather in Veteran is unpredictable. The winters are often very cold with snow, but every year the amount of snow is different. There hasn't been much rain around Veteran the past few years. The summers are mainly hot, the temperature averaging 27 degrees Celsius.

History

Veteran was founded in 1912 under its first name, Wheatbelt. The Thuliens, Ulseths, and Heisteads were some of the first families to make homestead in what is now Veteran.

Extras

There is an auction market in Veteran, where cows, bulls, and calves are bought and sold, and there is also a cafe. Sales are usually held every Monday and Wednesday.There are many houses for rent in Veteran and houses for sale. The cost of living in Veteran is very reasonable with rent typically in the $500/month or less range.

Demographics

In 2006, Veteran had a population of 293 living in 146 dwellings, a 0.3% increase from 2001. The village has a land area of Template:Km2 to mi2 and a population density of Template:Pop density km2 to mi2.[1]
