Hi Sgeureka, I am trying to digest an interesting article which has been scanned and I cannot use google translate.... essentially what we are intrested is this - this mushroom - ''[[Boletus luridus]]'' - which we are buffing for GA - has long been suspected of causing adverse symptoms when consumed with alcohol, but a German study casts doubt on this, suggesting it is ''[[Boletus torosus]]'' instead. The article is [http://www.dgfm-ev.de/sites/default/files/ZM602423Kiwitt.pdf here] so any nuances or details would be gratefully received (info such as sum knowledge of luridus to date, conclusions etc...). terima kasih

Thanks for that. I've added an alternate form of the link using the fullurl parser function. Could you check that it works properly? The idea here is that it should work properly on either the en.wikipedia and the secure.wikimedia servers; i.e. you're not flipped to en if you're on secure. I did this to the other diffs that were hard-coded to use the secure server using {{diff}}. Most people use the en server and are not logged in to secure, so flipping people from one to the other typically results in them being on a server as an IP and the unwary can be tripped up and make some edit anonymously when that was not their intent. And for added lulz, read Firesheep. Picture some troll stalking a wiki-meetup and hijacking Jimmy's account; or an arb's, someone with oversight...

Super (2010) Movie renaming

Dear Sgeureka, this is regarding the name-change of a Wikipedia film article Super (2010 Kannada film) at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Super_%282010_Kannada_film%29&diff=398791434&oldid=398790601 Since it is a multilingual (3 South-Indian languages) movie, can we rename it to something like: Super (2010 Upendra film) or Super (2010 Indian film)? Please suggest if you have a better idea, or you can change it to either of the above suggested titles. Thank you. Niri.M 08:29, 5 December 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Niri.M (talkcontribs)

It's already been moved to "Super (2010 Indian film)", which seems like the correct name in such a case. – sgeureka tc 14:15, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As a frequent and recent discussant at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (television), I call your attention to the creation of Category:Television programs by season and its subcats, which are being discussed at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Television#Season_article_template.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:41, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of season one episode articles of House for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the articles Paternity (House), Occam's Razor (House), Maternity (House), Damned If You Do, The Socratic Method (House), Fidelity (House), Poison (House), DNR (House), Histories (House), Detox (House), Sports Medicine (House), Cursed (House), Control (House), Mob Rules (House), Heavy (House), Role Model (House), Babies & Bathwater, Kids (House), Love Hurts (House) and Honeymoon (House) are suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Paternity (House) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Xeworlebi (talk) 14:45, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question

What do you think would be the best way to continue with this, keep the AfD, or shift to an RfC at List of House episodes? I have the feeling that a bunch of people are voting "keep" because they don't want them to be deleted for ever but don't vote "redirect". One of the arguments I hoped to avoid by doing the first season alone (and was thwarted by the motion to include all seven seasons) has already come up, which is "to many to fix in time, so keep", redirects would easily avoid that problem and when notability of the specific episode is established one could easily recreate the article. Thanks. Xeworlebi (talk) 15:36, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think Masem (whom I respect very highly) summarized the issue quite well in this comment. If you have the energy, I'd advice to start an TV RfC about how to deal with assumedly somewhat-notable episode articles that violate WP:NOT#PLOT and where nowhere stands up to fix them. The RfC should be about such articles in general, and not just a specific show. Many of the hardcore fiction inclusionists/deletionists no longer edit wikipedia and we may actually be getting somewhere with a new attempt. I largely lack the time to actively deal with plot-only fiction articles anymore through merging/redirection, but I'd be very happy to see this issue be resolved in favor of quality instead of fancruft. – sgeureka tc 10:39, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just came across Wikipedia:Television episodes/Review, which was basically about this, not sure why it died out all of a sudden. Xeworlebi (talk) 11:19, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That was shortly before I started getting interested in the behind-the-scenes of wikipedia, and I didn't really participate in that. The User:TTN debacle and the Fiction arbcom cases started shortly after this. I presume that there were too few fiction cleanup editors against too many fans and inclusionists, and too many battles on too many fronts. The process there works only for old shows or shows that don't have (m)any wikipedia editor-fans, but as you're experiencing right now, it's nearly impossible to clean up popular on-the-air shows. – sgeureka tc 11:45, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I just read the ANI, looks like a very one sides battle by Catshi. I guess I'll see the AfD out, and maybe down the line start a bigger scale RfC about it. Doesn't really seem like a good idea to start that now next to the AfD or shortly after it. One user has already thrown WP:GETOVERIT around just a day in the AfD. Xeworlebi (talk) 12:41, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification

Hi. When you recently edited List of Wild Cards characters, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Rox, Deifying and The Temptation of St. Anthony (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

MSU Interview

Dear sgeureka,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead. If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Television episode and season articles badly needed

Thanks for doing good work on World of A Song of Ice and Fire, but...

Many thanks for your great work World of A Song of Ice and Fire. The article has been in a bad state ever since I created it two years ago by merging four related articles. You seem to have fixed it up very nicely and added a lot of good material. However, I am somewhat concerned over the amount of {{cn}} tags you added in the existing sections. While I personally think citing everything to a source is best, many people would point out that wp:V does not in fact require inline citations for everything, merely that they can be added if the material is challenged. Adding citation tags after every single sentence is not a proper way of challenging information and can even be considered disruptive. Nearly all of the material you tagged can be easily verified with one of the books or the interactive map on the HBO website. Yoenit (talk) 17:44, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. As for the {{cn}} tags, the ASOIAF books have the habit of spreading the backstory and world information all over the narrative, so (correct me if I'm wrong) it's more likely that it's one ref per sentence, not one per paragraph where less intrusive cleanup tags would do. Since the narrative is also 4000++ pages and no-one can have all facts in mind (and refs are hard to find without a search function in digital books), I actually challenge the material, so inline citations are fine. To ease your concerns, I'll say that I intend to work on the World article further (along with the Themes article), and that I do have the books in digital format with a search function. Highlighting what still needs to be sourced (to maybe take the World article to WP:GA one day) is more helpful that the unspecific years-old {{Multiple issues}} tag at the top that no-one seems to take as an incentive for cleanup. Therefore, the {{cn}} tags will (hopefully) just be temporary until I (or other helpful hands) get around to digging up the refs. – sgeureka tc 05:53, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

When I clicked on the discuss link on the split tag, it took me to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_A_Song_of_Ice_and_Fire#Meta-article_restructuring. There it says that you are not going to pursue the change. It may be that I read the wrong discussion, but I can find no other discussion about this. This is why I thought the split tag was no longer required. Can I take it that you intend to make the split soon? Op47 (talk) 18:03, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I started four different discussions under this header. The second one, still open, is for the possible fandom article. I'll likely start such an article in the not-to-far future, but there are other wiki things one my plate now, and I'll leave the {{split section}} tag up in case there is opposition until then). – sgeureka tc 06:16, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about falling through on the review. I replied to your email, but I saw somewhere else that you didn't get it so I thought I would leave a comment. Surname pages

If you are still interested in these, would you please take a look at my comments at User talk:D'oh2 and User talk:INeverCry60? You seem to know about the subject and I'm finding these new accounts (looking at their first edits I don't think they are new users) are making edits that I find confusing - linking to articles not about surnames, not providing reliable sources, etc. I see no reason for surname articles not to be sourced as well as any other articles, although INeverCry60 thinks differently given his edit summary " relationship is clear, obvious, no need to explain". Your recent revert

Hi, regarding your recent revert, have you read the notes at File_talk:The_Genealogy_of_Bharata.png? This is not a new issue & the same image was deleted at Commons. - Sitush (talk) 07:49, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, I missed that and self-reverted, but even now, it's not obvious to me how this qualifies for speedy deletion... (The discussion can continue at the image's talkpage, if need be). – sgeureka tc 08:00, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's ok, thanks. I was tempted to nominate for a more prolonged deletion process and in retrospect perhaps should have done. I just thought that speedy would be ok because of what happened at Commons. Of course, that is conflating two projects and so is not A Good Thing. I will pose the question on the talk page. - Sitush (talk) 08:02, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article List of Tiger mascots has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unencyclopaedic collection of indiscriminate information with very little use.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Finished my read through and have left comments as I went. Feel free to debate the merits of them as you see fit. I made a few, hopefully minor, changes as I went that you might like to double check as well.
