All We Know Is Falling
Is that all you have? I notice you've labeled them "comments". GA reviews are different from FACs, they are done and passed by an individual, not by a vote. Just so you know. You may need to scrutinize Revolutions per Minute a bit more too. Weird, how the process works. <span class="smallcaps" style="font-variant:small-caps;">danny</span><small>music</small><span class="smallcaps" style="font-variant:small-caps;">editor</span> Speak up! 22:39, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Revision as of 22:39, 28 November 2016

Hi Jennica, just wanted to inform that we should not list more than 10 reviews in the template box. We can include as many as we want in the prose of the section. "Include no more than ten reviews in table form. When choosing which reviews to include, consider the notability of the review source and keeping a neutral point of view. For older albums, try to include not just contemporary but also some more recent reviews.". —IB [ Poke ] 05:27, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    • @IndianBio: Ok sorry.. but Pitchfork is one of the better known music sites. Couldn't another rating be knocked off? --JennicaTalk 05:30, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Pseudo headings

Hi, I noticed in this edit to Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. you replaced the level-3 headings with pseudo headings using semicolons in the personnel section. This should be avoided as it can cause accessibility issues on screen readers and the like (WP:BADHEAD/WP:PSEUDOHEAD). Dan56 (talk) 22:44, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Dan56: Oh ok. So I would just make them bolded instead? Sorry about that. --Jennica Talk 22:52, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, with the equal signs; it was fine before. Dan56 (talk) 22:57, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Dan56: Is it in the rules/guidelines that the individual entities of Personnel be under subheaders? It's kind of strange to me. Edit: I guess it is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Albums/Album_article_style_guide#Personnel
@Dan56: ok, so on Joanne for instance, everything under Personnel would have four equal signs? I want to make sure before I change. Also I will go back and edit my previous pages. On the PSUEDOHEAD article you linked, it says I can use bold instead of the semicolon. It seems less gaudy than having everything be a subheader. I also improved on the Tracks and Live 1975-85 track listings today. --Jennica Talk 23:16, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Dan56: Thanks for the heads-up on the semi-colons--I have used a lot of them myself. :/ Jennica, thanks for all your work on Swans-related articles! Have you ever seen them live? —Justin (koavf)TCM 02:50, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: - Nope! I randomly stumbled upon their pages from another article. I've heard some songs though and I don't think it's really my style. --Jennica Talk 02:52, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: BTW I am now being told the semicolon and bolding is not good. It says on the guide that the semicolon is a no-no and bolding makes it less of a hindrance for users. I am torn on what to use. Apparently, it's supposed to be subheaders which is so gaudy.--Jennica Talk 03:00, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Editing articles about topics that don't personally interest you just because you want the encyclopedia to be better is the mark of a grade-A Wikipedian. Thanks so much, Jennica. And due to your editing, I've found a more accessible way to style articles myself. 🖒. —Justin (koavf)TCM 03:51, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: How nice!  :) I made an inquiry regarding the subheader situation if you'd like to keep updated. --Jennica Talk 03:54, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jennica - I echo Koavf's thanks about the headings on the Swans-related articles. Thanks! Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 10:29, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Jennica: Thanks again. I wanted to let you know that adding Track listing when there is an established style is frowned upon (as in Monster (R.E.M. album). —Justin (koavf)TCM 20:41, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: Oh ok, I didn't know that! I'm still learning.. but my intentions are good, heh. I thought it was kind of an old format so I had changed it. --Jennica Talk 21:13, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Jennica: You are definitely doing good work--thank you. There is just a kind of gentleman's agreement at WP:ALBUM to not get into reverting back and forth if there is already an established style (with or without the template). It's impossible to know every rule, guideline, proposal, etc. You're doing great, Jennica. —Justin (koavf)TCM 02:42, 28 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: is it pendantic to go around pages and change "Reception" to "Critical reception"? I'm going off on what's on the style guide. --Jennica Talk 00:47, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reception I prefer a second-level ==Reception== section that has a third-level ===Critical reception===, ===Sales===, and ===Legacy===, as necessary. That's how the album was received--not just by critics but also the music-consuming public and by successive generations of musicians. I wouldn't revert someone (especially since "Reception" sections are usually just about critical reception) but I definitely have a preference on the matter. —Justin (koavf)TCM 03:16, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Koavf: oh shoot then. I've edited a lot of them just to be "Critical reception" as its own header, then commercial performance as its own header, and legacy as their own. Argh! I wish there was a definite template to follow. --Jennica Talk 03:24, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Template On the one hand, that would be nice but on the other hand, each article will be a little different than others and readers will still be able to find the relevant information. I for one am still very glad that you are doing what you are doing here--it's a real pleasure to meet you. —Justin (koavf)TCM 03:27, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Where is the "cite web" button located?

Please let me know Jennica. By the way, you can call me by my real name, Tina. Swancat (talk) 21:01, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ok Tina @Swancat: - I took a screenshot for you: http://i.imgur.com/58AN3dE.png -- When you click "Cite", it shows the "Templates" button. If you click that it has a dropdown menu with "Cite web" on it. There you can paste the URL which I always do first, then click the magnifying button and it will auto fill the title and the author. I always name my references in case someone wants to use it again in the article but not with the full code. Hope this helps! --Jennica Talk 21:12, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Two things I would like to mention about another transgender article

In the article about transgender teen Jazz_Jennings it says her last name that she uses is a Pseudonym. In this article here it says it is used in order to maintain the privacy of her family and that used hormone therapy: http://heavy.com/entertainment/2015/07/jazz-jennings-parents-greg-jeanette-transgender-family-daughter-son-twin-i-am-jazz-tlc-tv-twitter/ Is this article reabile enough to use? Swancat (talk) 01:44, 28 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Swancat: I would say yes.. but be sure to check the Wikipedia:Identifying_reliable_sources guide. I'm a regular editor like you btw  :) --Jennica Talk 01:47, 28 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Is there an admistastor I can ask on wikipedia? Swancat (talk) 01:59, 28 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You could ask the helpdesk or the Jazz Jennings talk page. I don't know any admins @Swancat: --Jennica Talk 02:00, 28 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I tried adding in a reference on the article and I find add a reference is difficult for me. Can you tell me how I didn't do it right this time? Swancat (talk) 02:11, 28 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. Like I said above -- click the "Cite" button on this toolbar and then click "Templates", then "Cite Web". Paste the URL in the URL field, then click the magnifying glass. It will fill the important details. In the ref name box just name it something like "heavy" [something in relation to the article or site]. Hopefully this will help. If you don't see this toolbar, I'll walk you through how to get that as well. And you can always practice in your Sandbox [in the top right of this page]--Jennica Talk 02:19, 28 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Would you mind weighing in on this RfC? It concerns whether or not a certain sentence should be (or should have been) removed: "I Am... Sasha Fierce received generally mediocre reviews from critics." Dan56 (talk) 03:20, 28 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, I just can't get over that description "reworked article": *proceeds to add "Charts" section, thinks to herself, "Wow, I've done a lot." Sorry, memes are funny. Є𐌔ⲘО𐌔𐍄 𐍄𐌀ℓК 19:29, 28 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In this discussion, the album rating template has been updated. You can now add an |ADM= parameter for AnyDecentMusic? with Metacritic in alphabetical order. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 22:37, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cool. Thanks for letting me know @TheAmazingPeanuts:, can we put MC in all the review boxes now? --Jennica Talk 04:51, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well that depends who support it. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 04:07, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@TheAmazingPeanuts: - oh, i thought there was a vote on it and it seemed like it was going to be ruled towards yes. I didn't check back on it though --Jennica Talk 09:23, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If you decide to add it, make sure you add a ten with the score. Kinda like this, 3.4/10. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 04:35, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@TheAmazingPeanuts: will do. Thanks for going through and fixing my edits --Jennica Talk 22:22, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Your welcome. And I've think we might have another proposal soon about that website should be added in the ratings box, so I let you when it up. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 19:30, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@IndianBio: - This why I thought it alright to add it. Sorry --Jennica Talk 09:22, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Jennica its not your fault, the fact that we need to take a widespread consensus in the community to add ADM. The above discussion was simply between two users and does not represent a community consensus. I have raised a discussion at WT:ALBUMS you can comment with your observations and thoughts there. —IB [ Poke ] 09:24, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. Would you be willing to weigh in this RfC regarding AnyDecentMusic? should be added in the album ratings template like Metacritic, because the website is another review aggregator. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 00:19, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free image resolution

You have uploaded a large number of replacement album covers of much higher resolution. These image covers exceed the acceptable sizing for non-free images and have been reverted. Please take care when uploading non-free images that they comply with all of the non-free content criteria, and in this particular case, the image resolution guidelines. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 14:54, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Use of deprecated reflist|2 form

Just happened to notice a few of your edits on my watchlist where you changed the reflist on an article to hard-code 2 columns using reflist|2 (here: [1] [2] [3]). Are you aware this has been specifically deprecated for a while? It's much preferable to use the reflist|30em form which causes it to adapt the number of columns to the width of the browser (and which you actually removed in this edit, this one and this one). Here's the documentation on reflist which explains this issue. --Krelnik (talk) 18:15, 12 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Krelnik: - No I didn't know that. Sorry! I will not do it anymore. Thanks for telling me. --Jennica Talk 21:05, 12 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Photo of Jason Allen.jpeg

Thanks for uploading File:Photo of Jason Allen.jpeg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 03:31, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Louisiana Rock & Roll

From the page histories & your edit history it looks like Louisiana Rock & Roll was created as a split from Potliquor? Please give credit to the authors by using the Copied template. Cabayi (talk) 11:33, 14 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Cabayi: - Yes thanks. I hope I did it correctly. Talk:Potliquor_(album) --Jennica Talk 11:37, 14 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. A copy of the notice should go on the group's talk page too because that's where the history is. Deleting the group's article would leave the albums without their history (even though it's highly unlikely that the albums would be kept if the group were to be deleted). Thanks, Cabayi (talk) 11:43, 14 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cultural references

I see this search has grown slightly since your post at WT:AWB. What criteria are you using to determine whether or not a page should have this changed? Perhaps I can help.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  12:10, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Tom.Reding: - well after that discussion with you [It took me 4 hours to get the list compiled. I had a friend help me with a javascript macro], I started editing pages that seemed to me that they needed changing to "In popular culture", which I thought was the correct term for it. I probably edited over well over 200 pages. I struck a nerve with an admin and I guess I opened some kind of can of worms, which lead to this discussion and this one --- so I've sort of put that aside for now. I've been compiling some lists to work on. Maybe change some tables with AWB.. I'm now going through re-doing "Personnel" sections on album pages. Most of them I come across are incorrectly formatted. Sorry this is such a novel! heh. PS. If anything that list would have shrunk. I was replacing [when necessary] them with "In popular culture". --Jennica talk / contribs 12:28, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ah; yes, best to leave it alone.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  12:37, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Cleaned up"

I am not at all sure what the above phrase means when you use it in an Edit summary. Would it be possible to be more specific? Thank you. BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 16:44, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@BeenAroundAWhile: - yes I will be more specific. I mostly do quick fixes and then use autocomplete to fill in a general summary. Plus, you can just view the differences in my edits, of course. --Jennica talk / contribs 00:37, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Photo of Jason Allen.jpeg

Thanks for uploading File:Photo of Jason Allen.jpeg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Majora (talk) 07:00, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Majora: hmm. I'm not sure what to say. I found it on his twitter. It is posted elsewhere on the internet on news sites but in lesser quality. I guess it'll be deleted. --Jennica talk / contribs 07:07, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. Our fair use policy is rather strict. Photographs of living people cannot generally be placed under fair use as it is conceivable that a free use alternative exists or could be created. That last part is the most important part. Since the person is living, all someone would have to do is find them and take a photo. --Majora (talk) 07:10, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Response to my modification

Hi Jennica, could you be more specific on the reasons why you thought my edit was not constructive enough? Listing a series of commercial products and giving a table so as to benchmark them is supposed to help people make their decision in choosing a Reference Management Software. Therefore, just indicating "Third party" is, in my humble opinion, not enough. I think it is good to inform on the actual options that one has when choosing this kind of software. In the case of Papers, where there are only two options on Android so far, why not mention them all? Thanks for your time proofreading Wikipedia anyways. Cheers, Diyoyo. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Diyoyo (talkcontribs) 12:56, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Undid your undo (RLSH Article)

Hi!

I undid your revision to the RLSH wiki page, as even though you may have personally felt that the page was better without the addition of that person, I don't believe it was removed for a valid reason. The "China Redbud Woman", is quite well known on the internet and in China. She's a welcome part to the RLSH page and community, especially for being female and operating within a communist based country, that would normally disallow some type of "heroic acts". I've added a source to credibly reference her within the addition into the article. Feel free to chat to me about this. No hard feelings. Lythinca (talk) 08:23, 25 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

All We Know Is Falling

Is that all you have? I notice you've labeled them "comments". GA reviews are different from FACs, they are done and passed by an individual, not by a vote. Just so you know. You may need to scrutinize Revolutions per Minute a bit more too. Weird, how the process works. dannymusiceditor Speak up! 22:39, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
