SOBHA Limited is an Indian multinational real estate developer headquartered in Bangalore, India.[2] which works in the business of construction, development, sale, management and operation, townships, housing projects, commercial premises and other related activities[3] [4]

History

SOBHA Limited was founded in 1995 by Mr. P.N.C. Menon.[5] Since inception, as of December 31, 2018, SOBHA has delivered real estate projects and contractual projects covering about 100.31 million square feet of area. The Company currently has ongoing real estate projects aggregating to 39.09 million square feet of developable area and 27.23 million square feet of saleable area, and ongoing contractual projects aggregating to 8.89 million square feet under various stages of construction. The Company has a real estate presence in 9 cities, viz. Bangalore, Gurgaon, Chennai, Pune, Coimbatore, Thrissur, Calicut, Cochin and Mysore. Overall, SOBHA has footprint in 26 cities and 13 states across India.[6][7][8][9]

The company has also executed projects for some of India's corporate houses, including Infosys, WIPRO, HCL, Dell, Bosch, Biocon, Taj Group of Hotels and ITC Hotels.[10]

The company is also planning to invest INR 500 crore residential development in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City),[11][12][13]

Change in name: The company changed its name to "Sobha Ltd" with effect from 18 August 2014.[14]

They have achieved growth with backward integration in the construction and real estate development business in India.[15] Their long-term performance has been supported by the in-house production of construction items and furniture. The company has a geographic presence in 26 cities in 13 states.[16] Internationally, Sobha Ltd has operations running in Oman with a footprint in Dubai[17][18][19] as Sobha Realty.

They have started 4 manufacturing divisions - Glazing and Metal Works, Interiors, Restoplus (Spring Mattress) and Concrete Products.[21]

Initiatives

Sri Kurumba Educational and Charitable Trust

Sri Kurumba Educational and Charitable Trust is a public charitable trust found by SOBHA Limited in 2006. The trust runs CSR activities since 2006 and the activities include providing healthcare facilities, education, for the needy and looking after the aged and elderly citizens. This trust is a realization of Mr PNC Menon's vision.[22][23] This trust has adopted three panchayats in Palakkad District, Kerala - Vadakkenchery, Kannambra and Kizhakkenchery- under the ambit of Graamasobha, a program based on Gram Swaraj concept.[24][25][26]

Sobha Academy

The Academy was started in the year 2007 to empower and enable the rural poor to break away from the vicious circle of poverty, ignorance, deprivation, and exclusion by providing their children with high-quality education.[27]

SOBHA Dowry-less Social Wedding

Aimed at supporting girls from economically weaker sections of society, this program of the Trust has successfully completed 610 marriages so far.[28][29]

SOBHA Icon- Higher Secondary Program

SOBHA Icon was started in June 2010 as a constructive step towards a comprehensive up-gradation of the academic performance and communication skills of high school students (8th -10th) of Kizhakkenchery Government School, in SOBHA CSR project area at Moolamkode, Kerala as an after-school learning initiative under Sri Kurumba Educational and Charitable Trust.[30]

This is an after-school teaching & learning programme. Each student gets approximately 20 hours of teaching per week during pre & post school hours and full-day classes on holidays and vacations.

This is a full-time programmes and instituted at Moolamkode with two streams of study: Science and Commerce.

This is an initiative to further support their education till they graduate with a monthly scholarship.

SOBHA Hermitage

The focus of SOBHA's CSR activities is equally on some of the most vulnerable sections of the society – abandoned elderly and young widowed mothers. SOBHA Hermitage was established with the specific aim of providing shelter and assistance to them. Besides providing residents a roof over their head, SOBHA Hermitage also makes sure that all the necessary amenities are given to them to lead a comfortable life. Residents have independent self-contained rooms, a library and a common television room, a gym and also internet access. All residents can also avail of round-the-clock medical facilities, if needed, which are provided by paramedical staff; there is a doctor on call during non-working hours. The Hermitage also has an in-house clinic.[31][32]
