Poundland

Hey, looks good. I might find time to sort out some of those locations tonight. To be completely honest I'd half forgotten obout the list so thanks for the reminder :P -- Tmorton166 (Errant Emote)  talk 18:14, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problems. By the way, how do you add a contents box? --Killfest2 07:31, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
easy just add __TOC__ to the page, it appears anyway if there are more than 3 sections. -- Tmorton166 (Errant Emote)  talk 13:38, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

CSA - Images

Visit this page to see some funny photo-shopped images from the AUS v ITA World Cup 2006 game. Oh, and CSA stands for Community Service Announcement... and yes, this was just so I could get a contents box... and yes, this post is now finished. --Killfest2 11:04, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As per Wikipedia's policy on fair use images (number 9), copyrighted logos such as Image: World Cup 2006 logo.png are not allowed on userboxes. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 03:22, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Making my own logo replica of the WC 2006 one isn't illegal, is it? --Killfest2 03:36, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't forget to give the 2006 FIFA World Cup controversies article some love! MyNameIsNotBob 10:16, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK...I'll begin to love it again...want me to continue your sourcing thingy? --Killfest2 10:27, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Try to neutralise the article a little as well. I've been using news.google.com to find a reference for each of the facts before putting it in in a factual, as it goes way. Just take a look at how I've transformed any of the sections as an example. MyNameIsNotBob 10:49, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

World Cup Controversies

A Barnstar!
The Working Man's Barnstar

Just took another look at the World Cup Controversies page and it's history and I reckon you deserve a barnstar for all the work you've done to make it a much better article - I certainly wouldn't list it for AFD now!! Keep it up!  Tmorton166 (Errant Emote)  talk 09:34, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By the way I am especially impressed that you managed to keep NPOV (or refused to edit) the australian bits - especially considering the errrr slightly unfair situations your team suffered :D -- Tmorton166 (Errant Emote)  talk 09:35, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, thanks, that was unexpected...my first barnstar *does a little jig* Anyways, there's more still to come with that article, so keep a lookt. And the way I kept NPOV with the Socceroos incidents was read the international media, see what they were saying, then form my opinion on the incident - much more reliable than patriotic Australian media reporting.
Thanks again! --Killfest2 12:49, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Daniel. Can you wirte an article about my city (Żagań) on icelandic Wikipedia? Kondzio1990 09:30, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Put on my to-do list. --Killfest2 11:30, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Translated it successfully (only took me about 15 minutes), but I'll expand on the article later. To see what I did, check out the link on my user page. --Killfest2 12:48, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A big thank you

Dear Daniel,

Just thought I'd pop by to say a "BIG THANK YOU" for the barnstar. I really don't feel ready for that yet, there is so much still to be done. Hopefully over the next few weeks (after France win the cup) we can transform the article into something totally amazing.

Regards, MyNameIsNotBob 10:15, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

p.s. Here's for the Socceroos winning the Asian Cup!!! And the Matildas too!

You're welcome - you certainly deserve it. Go the Socceroos! --Killfest2 11:29, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism at Football

Hi Daniel. It seems you made a mistake and replaced the vandalism that Tawkerbot4 had removed. I've reverted back again. JPD (talk) 11:24, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies, that must have been a double-edit with the IP changing 2006 to 2007. Sorry about that. --Killfest2 11:26, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for reverting my user and talk pages. I've already reported the IP at Wikipedia:AIAV Stephenb (Talk) 12:12, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reverting my user page

I was a cocksucker for less than a minute there, and didn't even have time to notice it before you took care of it. I just can't keep up with myself, apparently... Anyway, thanks! -- Captain Disdain 15:26, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anaheim Hills Revert

Thank you for reverting the edit on the Anaheim Hills, Anaheim, California page. I have not had alot of support up until this point on the page, and do truely thank you for putting the infobox back on, and keeping my hard work from being removed. --OC31113 07:38, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting error

First of all good work with the vandal fighting. Secondly, I am not sure if was an accident by you or Vandal Proof, but just so you are aware there was an error in your revert of Tour de France. You reverted vandalism to a vandalised page (If that makes sense). You can see the diff here and also take a look at the history to see the reason for the mistake. If it was your fault please be more careful when using a tool as powerful as VandalProof, if not please let AmiDaniel know of the bug here. Any further questions let me know. Happy editing.--Joe Jklin (T C) 07:56, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about thtat. I believe it's a limitation of VP that if two different users vandalise a page in two different areas, the reverter can't see the earliest vandalism, unless they read the whole article which is impractical for an article as big as that. --Killfest2 08:04, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting error 2

Careful with the reverts. This one went the wrong way and was overlooked for a couple of days. David D. (Talk) 21:17, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page archiving

For future reference, talk archives belong as subpages of the Talk pages, not the article pages, as Talk:Marco Materazzi/Archive1, which I have moved there. See also Wikipedia:How to archive a talk page. —Centrxtalk • 07:05, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, that's where I did look, and it said "(full page name)", so that's what I did - it didn't say "(full talk page name)" or "talk:(full page name). Anyways, I'll remember that in the future. Thanks for the heads-up. --Killfest2 07:08, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Killfest,

If I can't control my own talkpage, I rather be blocked from Wikipedia altogether. So go ahead, please block me as soon as possible. Still, I will always 'heart' Zidane. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.18.12.231 (talkcontribs)

Feel free to post whatever you want on your talk page - just make sure you don't remove the warnings. You can write "I <3 Zidane" at the top, and as long as you don't copy+paste it all over the page so it becomes spam, it is fine. The only thing you're doing wrong at the moment is removing your warnings. I don't want to ban you - you're forcing me to though. --Killfest2 07:21, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Daniel Bryant,

Sorry for the confusion on the Argentina national football team page. I was just trying to fix the spacing on the page (from the Trivia section on), but could not figure on how to do it. Perhaps you know how. Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.180.19.89 (talkcontribs) 07:28, July 10, 2006 (UTC)

I'll see what I can do. If I published a warning on your talk page, remove it with the edit summary "misunderstanding between Daniel.Bryant and myself". I'll go fix it up now. --Killfest2 07:31, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. Killfest2 07:38, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use images outside the article space

Hi. You uploaded a number of images that are used on userpages, but these images (or their original, unaltered versions) are copyrighted. Wikipedia does not allow copyrighted images to be uploaded to its website unless a valid claim of fair use can be made. However, Wikipedia policy (#9) does not accept images used on user pages as fair use, as has been similarly mentioned for copyrighted logos in userboxes above. Unless you can find a free image or a valid fair use claim, these images will be deleted within 7 days. Please make sure to follow Wikipedia's Image Use Policy when uploading images by not uploading copyrighted images without a valid fair claim.

Also, your claim that some of these images, from the SMH (I'd assume that's the Sydney Morning Herald) and under a "free license", seems dubious. SMH's copyright policy is not anywhere near a free license, which you seem to have agreed with considering all the images are claimed as fair use and not under any free licenses.

Lastly, as far as I can tell Image:Poundland Store Map.gif is not a logo, as claimed, so if the image is to be kept its fair use tag must be replaced. I couldn't find any appropriate ones at WP:ICT, but you can try to find one yourself. Thanks. Telso 08:28, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Delete the three images from SMH as soon as you want - that was a mistake in judgement from me. The Poundland Map, however, I still have hope in saving, which may include writing to the owner of the franchise and getting their permission, if it comes to that. Killfest2 08:32, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I put a speedy on the three SMH images. The Reuters one would also fall under the same category, so it's likely to go as well within the 7-day period. Image:FFA.JPG could easily be put into Football Federation Australia, but they already seem to have an appropriate image; feel free to discuss it with them. It still can't be used in the template, though, so that'll have to get pulled from it eventually. As for the Poundland one, yes it certainly could have a valid fair use claim, and you certainly could get permission, just I wasn't sure what it could go in as ({{fairusein}} would probably be fine, but again it depends on context). There's a huge backlog for disputed fair use images, so you've got some time, but that of course doesn't mean it doesn't need to be fixed. :)
And lastly, sorry if I seemed a little dry above; it was late and I was just going to sleep and as amusing as the images were, I figured I had to say something and was too tired to say anything except the standard impersonal wiki-talk message. :) Telso 03:16, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks in advance.

The point of the aforementioned policy is for it to be enforced, and that's what I'll do. Request Denied. Killfest2 05:10, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What "aforementioned policy"? I'd like a cite to something not on your user page or talk page please. In what Orwellian universe does the Wikipedia Welcome Message constitute a "warning message"! (a welcome message, I note, you do not have on your own user page). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.198.252.184 (talkcontribs)
Ah, yes I do have a welcome message - it's the first one. It doesn't look like yours, because mine is a custom one. Oh, and the definition of a warning is "A recommendation of prudence", which is exactly what the following are:
  • Please respect others' copyrights; do not copy and paste the contents from webpages directly.
  • Please use a neutral point of view to edit the article; this is possibly the most important Wikipedia policy.
  • If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do that.
  • Do not add unreasonable contents into any articles, such as: copyrighted texts, advertisement messages, and texts that are not related to that article. Both adding such unreasonable information and editing articles maliciously are considered vandalism. A user who repeatedly vandalises articles will be blocked from editing. }}
Q.E.D. Killfest2 05:21, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you are going to police this rule as assiduously as you seem to, you might benefit from being able to give us perps the cite, viz., Wikipedia:Removing_warnings#Vandalism. I'll let you keep the nickel. 64.198.252.184 05:36, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sideline comments at Talk:Marco Materazzi

I have added an hopefully effective header to the top of this page to stop people talking about matches and headbutting and who knows what else is not related to the actual article. Because these comments are not about the Wikipedia article, I propose that the archive is irrelevant to the article and should be just deleted, along with other, recent comments. —Centrxtalk • 07:24, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Triple J reverts - Please Explain

Anyways, I accept your point. However, there is a reason to explain my actions: you didn't reference the changes at the bottom. I realise I'm in error, but just to help avoid these kind of situations in the future, make sure you reference. Also, using the "edit summary" box to explain your edits is a pretty good idea too. Medcab

I joined very shortly after joining Wikipedia and after about 20 proper edits (maybe less). You just have to add yourself to the list and then try and help out where you can. There is no vetting of participants really. However I would say that I decided to stop mediating for the time being till I get a more respected presence here. You'll notice it does count, some of the med's have a presence all over wikipedia and users in mediation discussions will often recognise a user that they have met and liked before - so the discussion goes better! It's all a matter of trust and likability.

If you want to become a mediator thats cool because its the sort of tasks (like wikifying or copyediting etc) that are essential to wikipedia but can also be the most tiresome! (although often the most rewarding too). I'd advise you to join, take a few cases (say one or two a month at most) and see how it goes. As you gain experience and respect so it will become easier and more enjoyable to mediate - then you can take on all the cases at once and be swamped... *sigh*

Anyway thats just my opinion, I hope you decide to join the medcab! (I have to say I saw you joined VP and that reminded me to apply)

Cheers! -- Errant  talk(formerly tmorton166) 08:35, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So I can just nominate myself to help out, or does someone else (like you) need to nominate me? Daniel.Bryant (aka Killfest2) 08:37, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No you just add yourself to the list, then when you see a case you want to try mediating just reply in the mediators response box and change the category (as per instructions on the talk page) to 'open cases'.
Probably your best bet is to take a look through 10 or so of the current mediations going on (and maybe some of the closed ones) to get an idea of how to proceed with a mediation.
The best advice I can give you is to lay down ground rules for participants as son as you reply to their request. Make up a list of rules that they have to abide by - true you cant make them as it is an open discussion but at least they will be warned! Also make sure you post notices on all of the involved users talk pages and on the article page requesting their response and asking them to stop editing the article (if that is the problem of course). Make sure all participants (or at least the 2 main ones) have replied before starting the discussion proper.
Also (and this is the boring bit) read up all of the edit comments, the article, talk page discussion etc. that has so far been going on to get the full background or they will lose faith in you if you miss something during your analysis.
Finally never tell them what to do with the article, make sure they know it is "our unbiased opinion that the best way to proceed so that all parties are happy is..." then they are more likely to take your advice.
Oh and finally finally, never take sides, its not easy to remain impartial but if a user is being annoying and obtuse it doesn't necessairily mean their wrong (I made that mistake). Try to find a solution that everyone is happy with and meets them all halfway (sically encourage them to compromise) - unless it is the case where one side is definitely and irrovocably (??) correct and the other side isn't...
If you need any help with a med case then I will be happy to sit in and help, let me know when you take your first case and I'lll drop in and see how it goes for you :D. I dont mediate at the moment as I cant get regular enough net access to make it easy ( and as I said before I'm building up community respect too) but I will still be around for intermittent advice...
Although to be fair I am not much more of an experienced wikipedian than you are (only joined in march) but sometimes it helps to get a 3rd opinion :D :D catch you later.. -- Errant  talk(formerly tmorton166) 08:52, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for all the advice. I'll just sit back and see how it works for maybe a week or two, and then I'll "dive in", so to speak. Thanks for all the help!  Killfest 11:06, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sig

You have to:

  1. Select prefs, clear the Nickname field completely
  2. Copy the code as is within the Nickname box
  3. Check the raw-sigs radio button
  4. Save prefs

Try it and message back! :NikoSilver: 09:18, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, got it to work - last time I forgot to check the "raw sig" box. Thanks for everything!  Killfest 10:57, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removed the section as it's role as evidence in the banning of an IP (212.219.191.135) is now finished. If you really want to see stupidity personafied, click here.  Killfest 12:10, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and a collation of stupidity can be found here.  Killfest 12:39, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NSW South aus

New south wales are going to beat south australia at the next cricket match, care to wager against? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Komodo123 (talkcontribs)

I follow neither - even though I've only ever lived there for the first 8 months of my life, I was born in Queensland, the Sunshine State, and that's who I support in everything except AFL (I hate the Lions, and <3 the Swans). However, I will wager one barnstar that NSW wins.  Killfest 12:06, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

Thanks for the barnstar! I need a favor, but first you have to answer this: Do you know anything about the "Macedonia name issue"? If not, then don't search around to find info, just do me the favor and read Macedonia (terminology) to see if you understand the whole issue comprehensively. There's a debate whether "uninformed readers" will grasp the whole idea over at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Macedonia (terminology). After you read it, you can vote there accordingly... :NikoSilver: 12:03, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll read up on it for you :D  Killfest 12:04, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Read up on it, judged the article, and it seems to meet all features needed for FA. I'll add a longer blurb on the bit about "uniformed readers" later for you.  Killfest 12:15, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Were you really totally unaware of the issue? If yes, then please state so, below User:HRE's comment. Thanks. :NikoSilver: 13:20, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, I was well aware of the issue, but after reading the article, I'm now well aware. I think it is very well written considering the fact it could be a contraversial topic, and for this, as well as fufilling the guidelines, it deserves FA status.  Killfest 23:36, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
