Hello, and welcome! Although everyone is welcome to contribute, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Upper Miramichi, New Brunswick with this edit, did not appear to be constructive, and has been reverted or removed. Thank you! Template:Z86 ~ Arjun 19:07, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have undone your link from the above to User:MadMax/Max Thrasher, please do not restore it, links from articlespace to userspace are not allowed. One of the main reasons for the userspace is to be a sandbox for articles that aren't ready to be "live", and they are not required to conform to the same rules as real articles. If you believe the max page can be a valid article then move it to articlespace, otherwise you cannot link to it--Jac16888 Talk 10:55, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, speedy deletions are for uncontroversial deletions which this is not. On reflection, since you want a page move then probably WP:RM is the best forum. Please note that I have no position on whether the page should be moved but it clearly needs fuller discussion. Please do not replace the speedy deletion template. Disambiguation link notification for August 29

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Local service district (New Brunswick), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page New Bandon, New Brunswick. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thanks for your contributions on Local service district (New Brunswick)

HiG. Timothy, some thoughts to share with you. Some of your edits have decreased the accessibility of the article. Most often it is best to go from more general information to more specific in that sequence. your edit of local governance to "rural governance" by-passes the step, making readers leap. Also, your deletions in the 'Distribution' subtitle have removed the 'lay of the land' and replaced it with overwhelming information. These are two examples where your contributions, amoung others, have detracted from the article. Please consider these constructive criticisms in your future contributions. I'd be happy to discuss these on the talk page of the above entry. Placeographer77 (talk) 13:15, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New Brunswick incorporation dates

Hi there, I'm wondering if you have the reference that states what day the villages of New Brunswick were incorporated. I suspect almost all of them were on November 9, 1966, but I can't find the official document listing which villages incorporated. Even just a link would allow me to use that reference for the bulk of the municipalities in NB. Thanks either way! Mattximus (talk) 21:41, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Candidates list

Hi, Thanks for your participation to the club of updaters for the list of federal election candidates. Two comments:

1) Good try to change FD to SD in the coloured boxes. Simple change, but I haven't found where to make it either. The organization of the templates for political names and colours seems complex. I hope someone will find it.

2) However, in the abbreviation guide for the results page, I can't see the point of adding names of unregistered political parties who aren't running any candidate, considering that they don't appear anywhere in the results. If a party runs at least one candidate, then we would add it. What do you think?

-- Asclepias (talk) 22:50, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We list lots of parties that don't seem to have any candidates yet. From my reading of the Elections Canada page, they'll only become registered parties once they're on the ballot, which will only happen when nominations close. Seems reasonable to include them if they're organised enough to have candidates and a website.

Candidates

Actually, no, any party that is running in a majority of the ridings in an area gets their own column. We discussed it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Ontario_general_election,_2014#Libertarians.3F -- Earl Andrew - talk 20:06, 27 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Election templates

Wikipedia does not have any rule that we must precisely replicate the exact form of a person's name that is appearing on the ballot, even if the ballot is abnormally inclusive of an obscure middle initial that isn't reflected in the title of our article about the person or in most other media coverage of the person's career in politics. Our rule on here is that the WP:COMMONNAME is the one that we use — and that goes for templates every bit as much as it does for the title of the article. Bearcat (talk) 16:59, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The question is, what substantive purpose does it actually serve to insist that the middle initial be present in the template, if the article isn't located at a title with the middle initial in it, and nobody actually refers to with the middle initial in the real world? Matching Elections Canada ballots for the sake of matching Elections Canada ballots isn't one of our priorities. If there were a substantive and critical reason why it was necessary, such as another party was also running a Judy G. Foote or Judy Q. Foote elsewhere in the same template, that would be one thing — but "we should exactly match the ballot because it's there" isn't a thing we do. Bearcat (talk) 17:07, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
In what way is accuracy compromised by just using "Judy Foote" instead of "Judy M. Foote"? Bearcat (talk) 20:42, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, there most certainly is a non-insulting way you can reply: by explaining what difference in accuracy exists between the template saying "Judy M. Foote" and the template just saying "Judy Foote". It's not like I suggested that we replace it with "Ashley Madison" instead — I asked what substantive difference is made by simply not including Foote's middle initial. And if you think the answer to that is so glaringly obvious that I'm somehow an idiot for not seeing how glaringly obvious it is, then frankly that sounds to me like you don't actually have a real answer to the question. Bearcat (talk) 16:25, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Laval--Les Îles

Hi, Re: Template:Canadian federal election, 2015/qc-mn, we probably should not give too much credit to the small entries about the ridings on Global. It's not that they're bad in general. However, they're a poor source, or of limited use, for us. From some details, which are unlikely to be coincidences, we can tell that they may have taken some parts of their informations from our own Wikipedia pages, or from old versions of our pages, or from outdated sources. So, it doesn't make much sense to use them as a source, because sometimes it would be at best circular sourcing and at worst it would be outdated information that goes back to old versions of our pages, which we now have updated. Specifically about the candidate of the Green Party in Laval--Les Îles, the name they have is not up to date. The actual candidate is actively campaigning [1], she has filed her official candidacy with the returning officer last week and she says she has received the confirmation from Elections Canada [2]. Why it is not updated yet on the database of Elections Canada, I don't know. I agree with you that the recent addition and removal of the name on the party's website was strange, but I wouldn't give that too much importance unless that situation persists. Other names are not on that website's list either. That's not a problem as long as all other reliable sources confirm the candidate. We can see on her facebook page that the organizer of the Green Party for the province is aware of that page and seems to agree with it. To eliminate doubts and for more certainty, I contacted one of the other candidates who is already confirmed on the Elections Canada website and he replied that the candidate in Laval--Les Îles is indeed the candidate [3]. Other candidates confirmed on the database of Elections Canada for the same party are also helping her on her campaign, as we can see from the facebook pages. Given all the evidence, I don't think there can be any serious doubt. But, taking your opposition into account, I have left the box blank for now in the template. I hope you can agree to this proposal until a name is added to the database of Elections Canada or until you are convinced, whichever comes first. :) -- Asclepias (talk) 20:32, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Source

Hi, I don't have access to posts of this FB account. Does this source say that this person is candidate in this riding? Not impossible, but it looks surprising and it would require a clear source. I was thinking of removing the entry unless there is one. -- Asclepias (talk) 20:48, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent, then. Thanks for the information. -- Asclepias (talk) 21:48, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"Deleted nn"

"This person's article has been deleted as non-notable per an WP:AFD discussion." The phrase doesn't have to be specifically defined in a Wikipedia policy guideline, because individual edit summaries aren't restricted to policy-defined terminology. RealGM

You have no idea how many RealGM.com "facts" I have had to fix on Wikipedia. It has to be in the hundreds. The people who run that site are incredibly careless. But more importantly, Wikipedia is not a newspaper, so the transactions need to be verified as final by some official source (which usually means announced, or at least on the NBA.com tracker). I scanned other entries that only showed a RealGM reference and most have been announced by their teams as well (and really ought to use the official reference). The Ware signing has not been announced, which has been the standard on article updates for years. Rikster2 (talk) 18:11, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Date formats for Canada

This edit is not valid. MOS:DATETIES makes it clear that "Articles related to Canada or Israel may use either format with (as always) consistency within each article" and 2019 Canadian federal election used mdy format. Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:49, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on List of candidates by riding for the 43rd Canadian federal election; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Walter Görlitz (talk) 15:09, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

List of candidates by riding for the 43rd Canadian federal election

Just for future reference, we can't use underlining as formatting for names in List of candidates by riding for the 43rd Canadian federal election — it's an accessibility issue, because people with visual impairments (colour-blindness, impaired partial vision, etc.) can't always tell the difference between text that's just underlined and text that's actually a wikilink. If you want to add coding to denote distinctions like "person will be acclaimed as their party's candidate on the date of the nomination contest, because the nominations have closed and they're the only registered candidate", you need to use symbols rather than underlining. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 16:39, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

National varieties of English

Information icon Hello. In a recent edit to the page List of candidates by riding for the 43rd Canadian federal election, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author of the article used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:01, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Checked what you cited in the MOS and it does not support you. I don't know what dictionary you're using but misspelt is a perfectly valid form that I grew up with here in Canada; it even shows up in searching some online dictionaries that both misspelled and misspelt are valid in both British and American English. Now, I could go home and do a quick look-see through my five English dictionaries, two of which are Canadian English, and I'd bet that every single one would state that both forms are acceptable. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 20:09, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

In case anyone is paying attention, Walter has been deleting any attempt to prove him wrong from his talk page. He definitely likes to abuse the Edit War warning whenever the evidence is against him. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 20:23, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, Walter has been correctly applying WP:OWNTALK to his talk page.
Part of a discussion resulting in a block for edit warring requires that such a warning be placed on talk pages of editors who may not be familiar with the guidelines. I would hate to have your block be thrown-out on a technicality. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:32, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You may be within your rights but the effect is to make it appear your behaviour is more positive than you have proven. Aggregator source for List of candidates by riding for the 43rd Canadian federal election

Hey there! Really impressed with the work you're doing on List of candidates by riding for the 43rd Canadian federal election. I'm pulling some similar data for a project of mine and was just wondering if you're using some aggregate source for the information or something? Laefk (talk) 16:21, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That would make it a lot easier. But no, I'm mostly using party candidate pages, Elections Canada, and Google/Twitter searches for terms like nomination meeting. Pure grunt work. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 16:24, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Canadian federal election, 2019

I'm sorry you felt that my edit had to be reverted. I won't dispute it, but take a look at Template:Results of the Ontario general election, 2018 that I composed last year, to show that my simplified formatting does indeed work by properly using the structure of Template:electiontable. I had also used Template:n/a in a more logical place to indicate that a party was new, as well as to eliminate any irrelevant 100% variances from being posted.Raellerby (talk) 22:08, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, Baie du Petit Pokemouche (local service district), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hello, I reverted your edit to Lepreau Parish, New Brunswick. You added a long list of red-linked bodies of water. What was your source? Magnolia677 (talk) 20:32, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at your talk page I can see you are no stranger to edit wars. Unfortunately, if you continue to add unsourced content, I will continue to delete it and tag your talk page until we reach a level-4 warning. This is something I am no stranger at. Please stop your disruptive editing. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:53, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

BattleTech

You need to provide references. None of the references you provided makes any mention that they are BattleTech parodies. If you cannot provide specific reliable references for that, then they will be removed. Canterbury Tail talk 20:28, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Additionally Wikis cannot be used as references. Canterbury Tail talk 20:29, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I used the BattleTechWiki because they're a condensed source. Since I have scanned PDFs of Battle Cattle (2nd Edition), Critter-TEK, and some of the magazines on my backup drive I could find them there when I feel like taking the time. I don't at the moment, so why not just stick a Wikipedia:Citation needed on stuff for now?
Or leave it out entirely; it doesn't seem worth the aggravation to fight for this. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 21:10, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kenny Wooten

Was announced as a signing but no mention of a two-way deal. You can’t assume it was a 2-way unless it’s reported that way. Rikster2 (talk) 22:10, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That’s not how it works. As a free agent he could be signed to any type of deal by his new team. Two-way contract signings are typically announced as such. Rikster2 (talk) 23:27, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Editing Hopewell Parish

The origin of the "Hopewell parish" name is the Hopewell township which preceded it. Simple. Perhaps it was you who contributed "In 1786 Hopewell was erected as a parish[8] with the same boundaries as the township." Please don't insist on discussing why the township was named what it was. There is very little to be achieved as it is not important to the discussion of the parish. Your recent addition do not require this amount of space and the reader's attention. You will see on the talk page that a suggestion was made for another entry be made to flesh out the Township, where on might dedicate space for a discussion the origins of the name. --Spooninpot (talk) 22:15, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I vehemently disagree with your conclusions. See your talk page. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 23:11, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
