Question re: partner in infobox
Hello! I'm Charlie and I work for Airbnb. I've disclosed my conflict of interest and intend to only propose article improvements on Talk pages for editors to review.

I have a question for members of this project. I submitted a request here to remove mention of an ex-girlfriend from the Brian Chesky article's infobox. I submitted this request for two reasons: 1) the couple have separated and 2) :Template:Infobox person suggests this field should only be used if the partner is a notable individual. My thinking was, his former girlfriend does not have a Wikipedia article and therefore should not be mentioned in the infobox.

However, my request has been declined, presumably because I cannot provide a source which specifically says the couple have separated. I am not looking to circumvent User:Quetstar's decision, but I am hoping to get a better understanding of the rules. Can any editors please explain why a non-notable former girlfriend must be displayed here? I'd like to be able to explain to Brian and some of my other colleagues from a Wikipedia perspective.

Thanks so much! CU Airbnb (talk) 15:54, 24 August 2021 (UTC)

Notice

The article José Silva (parapsychologist) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unreferenced article with a slanted POV that has clearly not shown signs of improvement in years

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I am notifying this since the article falls under this WikiProject. Thank you.

Tom Little's Sunflower Street

I would like to chage the end date of Tom Little's daily panel Sunflower Street, which is important because it depicted the life of a black community between 1934 and 1950. The strip was written by Tom Sims and drawn by political cartoonist Tom Little, both white. In 1950 it was withdrawn by it's syndicate for possible racial issues. I think that is interestng as a study subject on it's own and in the larger context op King Features history. The Wikipedia page for Tom Little is the only place this panel is mentioned. Further on, I would love to do a seperate entry for Sunflower Street. But for now a factual correction of the end dat would be great. I have found a newspaper clipping stating that Sunflower Street was withdrawn by the syndicate from 1950-04-03. Unfortunately, that clipping is on a blog, run by blogger, which makes the link controversial. Due to the fact that it is an actual newspaper clipping I wonder how I should insert that link. Can anyone help? By the ay, here is the link to the whole blogger page, the clipping (and the date in the file name) is the last one on the page. If I link to the clipping seperately, I lose the date in the file name.

Student Assignment Improving Wikipedia Page

Hi everyone, I am a student currently enrolled in a subject which requires the improvement of 'John Aitken (biologist)' article. I had put all the changes to the Wikipedia page John Aitken (biologist) and would really appreciate if I could hear advice and feedback over my edits and contributions. Thank you --Tempstent (talk) 12:01 26, May 2021

Oliver Rood

The article suggests that he was awarded the Medal of Honor for action at Gettysburg while a member of the 20th Indiana Infantry Regiment. Pv.t Rood was actually a member of the 14th Indiana at Gettysburg. He was with his regiment in a fight on the night of July 2, 1863 that resulted in Confederates being driven from East Cemetery Hill. Private Rood captured the flag of the 21st NC Regiment, although some suggest that he actually found it on the field the next morning. He joined the 20th Indiana Infantry Regiment when his enlistment in the 14th expired. That was in the fall of 1864. Thus, when his medal was issued on December 1, 1864, he was a member of the 20th Indiana, but the action for which the medal was awarded was at a time when he was a member of the 14th Indiana. This is fairly common knowledge among the Licensed Battlefield Guides at Gettysburg. I'm sorry that I do not have a more specific source.

Andre Wink

(1) Can editors check if the tag on André Wink is justified?

(2) Can the reviews of a book be covered in such extensive detail, quoting multiple lines from each?

Thanks. TrangaBellam (talk) 17:17, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Done and done; tag more than justified, article needs complete rewrite. We do not need essays of reviews, please use summary style. Kingsif (talk) 20:31, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Kingsif, I agree and was using a summary style. Before another editor claimed that we, as editors, cannot summarize sources lest we misrepresent them (and their context) in a BLP. I will be glad if you take some interest and help clean the article. TrangaBellam (talk) 06:19, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Is the other editor claiming a SYNTH issues (generally seen as a non-issue with reviews) or just doesn't realize that cherrypicking and framing quotations can be just as misrepresentative if someone so chooses to do that. Either way, just roll it back, pointing at every other article that has reviews if the other editor comes back. Kingsif (talk) 08:09, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

References

Hello, I'm trying to locate the following document: “On the Plants Providing Greek Tea” (Athens 1900)". Can anyone help me? Kind regards Chakitaro (talkcontribs) 06:23, 22 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like one library in Bonn, Germany holds this.
 • Heldreich, Theodor von (1900). Peri ton phyton ton parechonton to "Ellenikon Tsai" [About the plants that provide the "Greek Tea"] (in Greek). OCLC 1075309748.
'Peri ton phyton ton parechonton to "Ellenikon Tsai"' seems to be the transliteration for Περί τον φυτών τον παρεχόντων το "Ελληνικών Τσάι". Peaceray (talk) 04:05, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Examples of good articles that rely largely on interviews/profiles?

I'm currently reviewing the article Megan Phelps-Roper for GA status. The main thing I'm struggling with is that a large majority of the citations are to sources that are not independent of the subject - mostly interviews, and profiles done with the co-operation of Phelps-Roper. I have concerns about how this affects NPOV - i.e. that the article might be too close to being "Megan Phelps-Roper, according to Megan Phelps-Roper". I'm also wondering where to draw the line on what sorts of statements should have in-text attribution when based on such sources.

This isn't a situation I've dealt with before, so it would be really helpful to have one or two examples to compare to of good articles (ideally ones that have been formally assessed as GA or FA class) that heavily rely on such sources. Is anyone aware of any? I tried scanning the intersection of Category:Good articles and Category:Living people, but the vast majority of these articles are on high-profile subjects who have been the subject of lots of independent RS coverage. Philip Orbanes

I have just put in an AfD for a page that links to Philip_Orbanes. This is a BLP and seems rather poorly sourced though I suspect it may meet the notability requirements and certainly is not libellous. I was going to put in an AfD for this as well, but I think I am out of my depth. Perhaps this could be cleaned up. Slimy asparagus (talk) 23:25, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

RfC on excluding non-notable pre-transition names of deceased trans people

Marcell Jacobs sudden popularity led to too much confusion in the article

I created the article year ago and kept it until before the Olympics following the rules of Wikipedia:WikiProject Athletics and the Wikipedia:WikiProject Athletics/Manual of Style/Biographies. Now I will arrange the article step by step according to the MOS of the project and detailing every single change in the "edit summary" of the article after each modification. But I'll go into more detail on my edits, explaining its, in this section.

 1. In the MOS first goes the biography section (which eventually includes the career section) and then the statistics section. --Kasper2006 (talk) 21:51, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
 2. World, European and National records need a specific section in the Statistics section. --Kasper2006 (talk) 21:56, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
 3. Also national titles need a specific section in the Statistics section. --Kasper2006 (talk) 21:58, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
 4. Add Others international meetings section (why national meetings and not Diamond League?) --Kasper2006 (talk) 22:06, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Reginald Boulos

A very poorly sourced BLP of a Haitian businessman (and opposition politician?), which is currently semi-protected due to BLP violations, i.e. allegations of involvement in the recent assassination of Haiti President Jovenel Moise being added to the article. More eyes on the page would be welcomed. --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 09:25, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Two new 'find sources' templates

You're probably familiar with the find sources template; that's the one that generates the source links you usually see in the Talk header of pages like, well, Talk:Arthur Conan Doyle is as good an example as any. (Look for find sources just above the "search archives" input box.)

Now we also have template find biographical sources, which lists some links better oriented to finding sources for biographical articles. Wrapper biographical sources box is also available, and generates this box for 'Arthur Conan Doyle', for example:

Your feedback and comments would be welcome at Template talk:Find biographical sources. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 23:11, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback requested at Village Pump proposal to extend "Find sources" functionality

There is a proposal at Village Pump about extending the functionality of template Find sources to facilitate the use of Find biographical sources (introduced just above) on Talk page headers of articles, as well as in other templates. Your feedback would be appreciated at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Proposal to improve customization of Template:Find sources.

Plain English version: we've got a way to make the Talk header on pages that link WikiProject Biography automatically generate the new, "biographical sources" links at the top of the Talk page (inside the Talk header template). This proposal needs community input, to see if we should go ahead with it or not. If approved, then Talk headers on biographical articles will automatically pick up the new links (as shown in the box in the section above); if rejected, the Talk header will continue to have the standard, "find sources" links that they have now (five Google links, NY Times, JSTOR, and a couple others). If you can help, please contribute here. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 23:21, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
