I'm having trouble finding a movie about a serial killer and a lab-made genetic double.

Back in January of '03, I watched a violent Rated-R movie on USA Network. (At least I think that was the channel.) The serial murderer's name was Luke Sovard (sp?), he immigrated from South Africa in 1995, and killed any women he overheard tell their sons that they were bad boys. An advanced crime lab got his DNA specimens somehow and cloned a genetic double of him, all the way to an adult. He's accompanied by one of the lab's employees (whom I believe was also a detective?)

One memorable part of the movie was that one night, the genetic double decides to stroll around a Red-Light District and pleasure himself with a prostitute. He doesn't understand what "gimme the green" means, so she calls a pimp to report a deadbeat. The pimp comes in and starts fighting with the genetic double, but he is so masterfully adept at martial arts and self-defense that the pimp eventually gives up, saying "Oh, all right! I've had enough!" Moments later, his supervising buddy comes after him and takes him elsewhere.

I've had trouble finding it on Google and Wikipedia. I was sure the closed captions read "Luke Sovard." Maybe the captions were wrong? What movie am I talking about? --Let Us Update Special:Ancientpages. 05:13, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Now I remember that face. That IS the film I was looking for! But what has happened to my memory? Not only was I sure I read the captions as "Luke Sovard" and not Garrotte, I'm sure I heard it so too. How could the name "Richard Garrotte" somehow have been corrupted into "Luke Sovard" in my memory? But alas, that's why I wasn't able to find the film until you helped me today. Card trick?

My friend did this really incredible majic trick the other day, he shuffled a deck of cards than spread them over the table face down. Then he told me to pick what i think is a two then he told me to pick what I thought was a 5 . One way that I can think of requires knowledge of what all the cards are, so would require a false shuffle that doesn't affect the order of the cards (tricky, but doable with practice). Then, when he told you to pick a 2, you actually picked a 5. When he asked you to pick a 5, you picked a king. Finally, when he said he was picking a king he picked a 2, and brought the three cards together so you didn't realise that they were being shown to you in a different order to how they were picked. Midna's Desperate Hour

I don't know where to find VG music sheet music, but I have a knack for playing video game tunes by ear, except accurately unlike many people (sorry to sound cocky, lol).

So if anyone can recommend to me the best music notation software, I can -easily- make sheet music for Midna's Desperate Hour — or any other VG theme I know. I specialize in Mario and Zelda themes, also lots of Megaman X, Street Fighter II, Sonic, Kirby, etc. Basically the retro-VG-music classics.

I've used a program called Harmony Assistant before, which I liked well enough, but it's made by a small French company and lacks some features, and feels a bit 'constricted' sometimes; also, when you go to print, what you've been seeing in "Page view" ends up being slightly different, with text tags possibly extending off of the page or some weird stuff like that...

I'm pretty sure I've also tried Finale and couldn't figure out how to use it, or didn't like it, or something. I may have also tried Noteworth Composer.. or that may be the one I was just thinking about.

Anyway, ideally, I'm looking for something that, if I need to, enables me to do things like —

A) writing runs made up of mini-notes all connected in a group of 17 or whatever, like you see in Chopin / Liszt sheet music all the time.

B) able to use additive meters (for example, 4/4+5/8 time).

C) able to notate in "free-form" mode optionally, by which I mean no time signatures, and there are barlines as well as dotted-barlines (pseudo-barlines?) here and there, placed manually.

Basically I want freedom, and it to be intuitive to use as well (but without that meaning it lacks features). I've read the comparison page and others on Wikipedia, and done some Google searching too, but I don't personally know anyone else in real life who ever publishes or otherwise creates digital music notation.

I've finally had the opportunity to watch, "Good Old Boy: A Delta Boyhood." The closing credits never said who played Robert Lee Evans, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Tucker or Mr. Dewey. Robert Lee Evans' rank also wasn't specified. How is Bubba's last name spelled? Is Billy's last name Rose or Rhodes? What kind of dog was Skip? What was the animal actor's name? The cast list is incomplete for character names, but Robert Lee Evans = Dulé Hill. You might be able to work out some of the others by clicking on the other names and looking at photographs. Who wants to be a Millionaire

I have always been concerned about the " Call a friend" lifeline of Who wants to be a Millionaire

Most of the times it is answered in the first ring

My question is What prevented a would be person to call to watch the program and be in front of a computer to look for answers for the question, unless, of course, the program was pre recorded

It is pre-recorded. The friend is sitting at home at a specific time waiting to be called, while the show is being taped. And there is nothing preventing them from looking it up, or asking someone else in the room, which you can often hear. Adam Bishop (talk) 21:01, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's not only pre-recorded, it's edited. Unless the rules have changed since the early days, contestants get unlimited time to think about their answers, but they only show enough to be interesting. If someone answered on the sixth ring they'd probably edit out five rings, unless the contestant said something interesting during those rings. --Anonymous, 03:34 UTC, February 11, 2008.

Most tv shows are prerecorded and edited these days. (Bear in mind they have to fit perfectly into a specific time slot.) Okay, so a some of us were looking at this ad about a new movie and it had cavemen with cavewoman and sabre tooth tigers and mammoths, then one of us said, "Here's a spoiler: Manny returns their baby in the end." While this was really funny, now I forgot what it's called. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? My understanding is that this series was a landmark on TV. It is talked about often, one of the first "reality shows". Everybody seems to be interested in it. Why haven't they put it on DVD? I never saw the show and don't know the episode that you speak of. Though I don't think it would have been based on fact since in order to beatified by the Catholic Church, you must first be dead and you didn't mention anything about this chaplain being dead. Mass Effect discussion page is bein' a bit buggy

New saves aren't appearing or aren't appearing in the right place under the Edit. Yes, I know it can take time for new edits to appear but I noticed that one whole discussion subsection vanished in between discussion page edits but there is no record of anyone removing them on the history page. Someone tried to put the Sovereign voice discussion back where it was but that might have only made the problem worse. Pokémon Advanced Battle

I like Pokémon, but I'm not a total fanatic, so I was wondering if anybody knows one of the characters shown in the opening [[1]]

The character I am asking about appears, if you watch this video, on the 27-9th second of the time. It is shown as a shady character in a alleyway, only shadows, and the character quickly jumps away. In coordination with the lyrics, my character appears right after the second "Oh oh oh oh oh oh" right after the first verse, at the "I'm unbeatable." I hope I described it well enough, thanks.

new line cinema

I just read with interest that the Tolkien Estate is suing new line cinema for a previously agreed 7.5% share of the gross on the lord of the rings films.. It primarily has to do with the language of the contracts. Entertainment law is an entire area of law all to itself. Here's a monstrously over-simplified example. You write a script and I say that I'll make it into a movie and give you 10% of the profit. You say yes and we sign a contract. The movie grosses a million dollars and I send you a check for $100. You complain that 10% of a $1,000,000 is $100,000, not $100. I claim that the cost of making the movie and promoting it was $999,000. So, the profit was only $1,000 and I gave you 10% of the profit. You discover that I paid myself, the director, $850,000. We go to court. You win a settlement of $50,000 (half of what you expected). Then, the movie goes to video and brings in another $500,000. I don't give you anything. You have to sue me again because that was profit. I claim that it wasn't the movie. It was the DVD. You never asked for profits off the DVD. We go to court and you get more money. Then, HBO licenses some of my movies (of which yours is included) for $200,000. I give you nothing because this is for my distribution control over a group of movies, not yours in particular. Again, you sue for part of that. Finally, the movie is purchased by NBC for broadcast. I give you nothing (again). You sue (again). Then, someone licenses the sequel. I give you nothing because it isn't for your movie. This is a license to write an entirely new movie. You, of course, sue. The sequel makes a lot of money and we sell $20,000,000 worth of toys using the characters from the sequel (which are the characters you made up). Again, you have to sue for intellectual property rights. To say "standard practice then" is still a gross simplification. It's not so much that the contract participants are trying to act fraudulently as that all participants are acting in their own best interests. Remember that the company in Kainaw's example sees that scriptwriter as a greedy money-grubbing scrooge who won't adhere to the contract he signed, and if he'd wanted these excessive terms up front, we'd never have done business with the robber baron. — Lomn 16:09, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
