The Car Nicobar class of fast attack crafts are being built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers for the Indian Navy. The ships will be cost-effective platforms for patrol and rescue operations at sea. The first two ships will be based in Chennai under the Eastern command.[1] These ships are the first ever water jet propelled ships of the Indian Navy.[2]

Design

The ships have improved habitability with fully air-conditioned modular type accommodation. They have sensors/radars, an efficient gun turret of indigenous make and sewage treatment plant to comply with the conditions laid down by the International Maritime Organisation.[3]

Weapons

One 30mm CRN-91 gun fitted on the forepeak. The CRN-91, which is a naval version of the 2A42 30mm Medak gun, is controlled by an electronic fire control system developed & jointly produced by the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).
