England Saxons

Hi, I do not think it is a good precedent to add a single sport team specific template to the generic flag template system. I think it opens the door for all sorts of cruft — for example, somebody once created a template for the "flag" of The Un-Americans wrestling team! Is there a specific problem you are trying to solve with that, or are you just looking to use {{ru}} as much as possible for "cleaner" wikicode? Thanks, Andrwsc (talk) 16:51, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Followup: at an absolute minimum, we should not use a non-standard country code abbreviation such as "SAX". It is terribly confusing to use invented codes instead of the standard ISO, IOC and FIFA codes, as per guidance on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Flag Template home page. Andrwsc (talk) 16:55, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Either we create the England Saxons country template, or we need to create three different templates for said team so that compatibility is seen through {{ru}}, {{ru-big}} and {{ru-rt}}. I think that creating one template to use with three is less cruftlike than creating three different templates. It also lends itself to being cleaner and more uniform.
Alternatively, we create three new templates, {{ruA}}, {{ruA-big}} and {{ruA-rt}}, for the A teams with alternate ids for the England A (now the Saxons), New Zealand A (Junior All Blacks) and South Africa A (Emerging Springboks). If you could put that in place, it could invalidate the necessity of the country data template specific for each user set. --Bob (talk) 17:14, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think I like the latter approach best. It is similar to something I did for the football templates, where I created {{fbu}} for the various under-xx teams. It used an additional parameter to identify the alternate team—in this case, using the age as a selector (e.g. "20", "21", "17" etc. as appropriate). I will see what I can do to add a selector for the secondary teams. Thanks for the feedback, Andrwsc (talk) 17:25, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Follow-up-question: How many of these "A" teams are there? I only see articles for Australia, New Zealand and England, and you've mentioned a South Africa team (article still redlinked, I guess), but are there potentially others? Thanks, Andrwsc (talk) 19:04, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ten teams: Scotland A, Ireland A, England Saxons, Wales A, France A, Italy A, Emerging Springboks, Argentina A, Junior All Blacks and Australia A are the ones that play most often, but, in theory, every playing country could have an 'A' side. --Bob (talk) 19:36, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. I see for many of them we've previously just wikilinked to the main team article with something like {{ru|Scotland}} A or {{ru|Scotland|name=Scotland A}}. Is there an intent to create seperate articles for all ten of these teams and go back and update those instances? I'm trying to get a handle on how flexible the template needs to be for names and/or links. Thanks again, Andrwsc (talk) 19:42, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Articles will eventually be created for all teams mentioned above. Especially as most of them play in recently created annual tournaments, as well as the long standing Six Nations A. I belive most are already linked to in the templates of the main national team (at the bottom of each article). --Bob (talk) 19:46, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, great! Thanks for the help. Andrwsc (talk) 19:49, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Instead of creating any more templates, I think I can make it work by adding a new parameter to the existing {{ru}} set of templates. For example, you would use {{ru|SCO|team=A}} to get Scotland Scotland A {{ru|ENG|team=A}} to get England England Saxons. How does that look? Andrwsc (talk) 20:16, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

that would be good. Could it also be implemented on {{ru-rt}} and {{ru-big}}? --Bob (talk) 20:22, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, exactly. All three templates would work the same way. Andrwsc (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 20:24, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, you know, it's going to be a lot more difficult than I first thought. The problem is that I think we want the display name to default to something like "Australia A" instead of just "Australia". All of the existing internal rendering templates (such as template:country flaglink and template:country bigflag) assume that you want to see the country name (only), regardless of the wikilink article name, and it would be messy to build something on top of that existing system. I think I shall pursue a "Plan B".... Andrwsc (talk) 20:55, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that the A team article for Australia is at Australia A rugby union team instead of Australia A national rugby union team. Is that intentional, or something we should fix with a page move? Andrwsc (talk) 21:14, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They should all be at the same layout for the title except the sides from NZL, RSA and ENG. Will move that one. --Bob (talk) 21:16, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I went with a "plan B" approach to create template:ruA. Take a look and let me know if you think it's ok. Underneath it all, it still uses the flag template system, but instead of adding a pair of statements to every country data template (i.e. link alias-rugby union A = Scotland A national rugby union team and name alias-rugby union A = Scotland A) and building the ruA templates in a similar way to the normal ru templates, I went with a different approach. Other that the four special cases in that switch statement (for the three unusual team names and for Ireland's special flag), every other team will work using the standard format (e.g. one day we could add  Fiji Warriors perhaps). What do you think? Andrwsc (talk) 21:32, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good. Thanks. I'll start to use this one now. Will you create the ruA-rt and ruA-big ?? --Bob (talk) 21:36, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just finished -rt and will do -big right away too. Andrwsc (talk) 21:38, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot to mention one important detail. The names of the Saxons etc were only recently introduced, prior to 2006, Saxons were England A, the Junior All Blacks were New Zealand U23 and Emerging Boks were South Africa A. --Bob (talk) 21:42, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I'll put back the ability to change the name (i.e. name=New Zealand U23), similar to the way the standard templates work. Andrwsc (talk) 21:44, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Archives

Grcampbell, I think it's time to archive the HIV talk page again (and a couple of others). I've never done it before, and it sounds like it's helpful to use the same method for a given page. Were you the last person to archive Talk:HIV? Can you tell me what method was used? (I'll watch this page if you want to reply here.) Thanks, WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:14, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rugby Infobox Template

Hey GR, I've been directed to you by User:Shudde. I write on Austn Rugby League players but have an interest in Category:Dual code rugby internationals . For those I'm starting to use the wonderful infobox Template:Infobox Rugby biography rather than the RL box so I can detail full career history. In that box the State Representative section of a RL career is entitled " State of Origin". Whilst this is great for Austn post-1980 rep careers it's not accurate for pre-1980 when selection criteria was residential & not Origin based. Can you help me change this to "State Rep" or something similar. I know this doesn't accommodate Provincial/Regional rep appearances by Kiwi or Welsh dual-code ints but my understanding is that neither country has a rep level in between club & country. -Sticks66 (talk) 00:33, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done, just add the parameter {{{sooteam pre-1980}}} and that will give you a different heading. The same exists for super rugby using the parameter {{{staterep}}}. Just equate either, or both to yes, and it will change the heading accordingly. See Wendell Sailor for an example. --Bob (talk) 18:40, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Brilliant. Thanks -Sticks66 (talk) 12:51, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rugby Infobox

I'm afraid knowledge of syntax is limited. Clarity is really my issue. If that infobox can be cleaned up I would back it, otherwise I prefer the other one, purely for the way it displays the information in a clear fashion.Alexsanderson83 (talk) 00:08, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I need specifics as tow why it is less clear. It displays the same information and is similar to other infoboxes such as those for countries and monarchs. What makes it less clear? --Bob (talk) 00:09, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It definitely looks better than it does just a short while ago. I will get back to you if I have any specifics.Alexsanderson83 (talk) 00:48, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Highlanders (rugby) peer review

Hey. I've been struggling to get any comments at my requested peer-review of Highlanders (rugby). I was wondering if you would be able to spend a few minutes reading through the article and adding any comments or suggestions here? Thanks. - Shudde talk 06:10, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree. Other users have had dealings with this individual regarding conflicts about policy, and I don't believe they are going to stop. I guess all we can do is stand our ground, and if we have any further hassle from this person, we report them to the admins. – PeeJay 16:57, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was having trouble finding confirmation on the club logos. Have now had it pointed out to me at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Rugby_union#Navboxes_for_players. The reason for the revert was I was not finding the reason to why they could not be used, I have since been set straight on that matter. Apologies for any troubles the mass revert may have done, I now see that they indeed should not be used in this way (else risk them being removed from wikipedia and the club pages they are necessary for). Happy editing. CorleoneSerpicoMontana (talk) 21:13, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you have participated in Wikipedia:Featured sound candidates in the past. There are now two candidates and the project appears to be abandoned. If you could look at the candidates and vote it would be appreciated. Zginder (talk) (Contrib) 18:28, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Hello Grcampbell! I would like to express my gratitude because of having edited the English edition of the Rugby Union leagues in Spain.

I have recently added the English Wikipedia in order to contribute with other Valencian teams articles. So I hope we keep in touch in order to help each other in whatever it be needed.

AIDS map depends on which version of UNAIDS report?

Image:HIV_Epidem.png says that the source is "Based on data from UNAIDS." Is this the 2007 report (PDF) or some earlier version? I'm asking, because I want to put an accurate caption on that image in AIDS #Epidemiology. Ideally, I guess, I want to update either that image or the SVG version Image:AIDS_and_HIV_prevalence.svg to the latest estimates. Thanks. Eubulides (talk) 19:25, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edinburgh Rugby Peer Review

Hi there, I was wondering if you could take a look at the Edinburgh Rugby article for peer review when you get the chance. I've decided to try and improve it, I've added some recent history and referencing but I'm fairly new to the whole editing process and was wondering if you could give me some pointers on what the most important issues are to correct. Scotland-constituency-stub

Hi. This is just a courtesy call to let you know that I have nominated the {{Scotland-constituency-stub}} for deletion at WP:SFD. Due to the good work of editors in the 2 years since you created the stub, all Scottish Parliamentary constituency articles have now reached a status of C-class on the quality scale. This has therefore made the purpose of the stub obsolete. However, if you have any comments or objections you want to make about this proposal, please visit the discussion page. Regards. Road Wizard (talk) 23:48, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

hello, User:Astrotrain is trying to place the Arms of Great Britain on the Scotland page. This user claims on User talk:Astrotrain that "They are the Queen's Royal Arms, and they were linked to the relevant page. You can find the compromise agreement in the archives of the Scotland talk page." I finally located in the archives [archives] a conversation which involved yourself. My understanding from reading these archives is that there was no clear compromise, and if there was, it was to keep the status quo and not add the arms. I am contacting you over this matter as User:Astrotrain is continuing to try to add the said arms and has today stated in Talk:Scotland "There was a clear consensus, you can ask any of the other editors. I suspect you have other motives for making these changes. If you insist on moving the arms, they will be reinstated in the infobox then.". Yours, Czar Brodie (talk) 21:53, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request to move article Ier arrondissement incomplete

You recently filed a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves to move the page Ier arrondissement to a different title - however your proposal is either incomplete or has been contested as being controversial. As a result, it has been moved to the incomplete and contested proposals section. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.

Please make sure you have completed all three of the following:

  1. Added {{move|NewName}} at the top of the talk page of the page you want moved, replacing "NewName" with the new name for the article. This creates the required template for you there.
  2. Added {{subst:RMtalk|NewName|reason for move}} to the bottom of the talk page of the page you want to be moved, to automatically create a discussion section there.
  3. Added {{subst:RMlink|PageName|NewName|reason for move}} to the top of today's section here.

If you need any further guidance, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Requested moves or contact me on my talk page. - JPG-GR (talk) 23:36, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Importance rating

Glad to see someone attacking the importance ratings of rugby union articles. But I must disagree that any tour by a top class nation can be classed as low. In my opinion they are all mid class at lowest. Please get in touch if you disagree? FruitMonkey (talk) 20:56, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • On the whole I think it's really good, there are areas where people are going to disagree, but I like the idea that players are not top rating, and there appears to be definite strategy to sorting this project out. My grief is always going to be in relating the old with the new, as I'm a fan of the ancient greats; it's difficult to assess a David Bedell-Sivright in comparison to an Austin Healy. Colour with Rugby navbox templates

I have added a vote at the rugby union community here on the subject that I believe that is at the very heart of the matter. I support one uniform coding for all clubs out there, however for me they should have their club colours, and not in purple. The RWC template does not allow the use of colours to the best of my knowledge. In short I believe that people either want coloured navboxes or do not, that is the crux of the issue here and the one that should be voted on. Many thanks.Londo06 07:25, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Australia national schoolboy rugby union team

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Australia national schoolboy rugby union team, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Non-notable schoolboy sporting team

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:WikiProject Rugby union categories, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:WikiProject Rugby union categories has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. HIV GA Sweeps: On Hold

I have reviewed HIV for GA Sweeps to determine if it still qualifies as a Good Article. In reviewing the article I have found several issues, which I have detailed here. Since you are a main contributor of the article (determined based on this tool), I figured you would be interested in contributing to further improve the article. Please comment there to help the article maintain its GA status. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Happy editing! Disputed non-free use rationale for File:1117849840.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:1117849840.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Σxplicit 23:24, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Australia national schoolboy rugby union team, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Australia national schoolboy rugby union team. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. JRA_WestyQld2 Talk 03:22, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Grcampbell! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 5 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 748 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:
