This article seems to be missing a section on the origin and history of the race. There are only bits and pieces in other sections referencing the history, but with most information on the subject not present.[[Special:Contributions/68.94.91.172|68.94.91.172]] ([[User talk:68.94.91.172|talk]]) 11:01, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

I have archived the talk page since it was really long. Coaster1983 23:00, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Restart Location

According to the Itidarod website the restart location has been permanently moved to Willow, and the Knik checkpoint has been bypassed so the page needs a bit of updating now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.251.87.52 (talk) 21:15, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Restart Time

The article says:

After the dogs are shuttled to the third checkpoint, the race restarts the next day (Sunday) at 2:00 p.m. AST. Prior to 2004, the race was restarted at 10:00 a.m., but the time has been moved back so the dogs will be starting in colder weather, and the first mushers arrive at Skwentna well after dark, which reduces the crowds of fans who fly into the checkpoint.

How is 2 p.m. "moved back" from 10 a.m., and how is it colder at 2 p.m.? (The official race calendar for 2008 does say that the time is 2 p.m.) Wdfarmer (talk) 00:47, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Would "delayed" be better than "moved back"? Or would "changed" be preferable? 67.174.214.101 (talk) 22:16, 20 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

the Iditarod race

—Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.57.109.139 (talk) 19:54, 20 October 2008 (UTC) delayed would be fine —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.69.78.3 (talk) 02:38, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Map

Does anyone have a map of the race course they could post? I think that it would add to the verbal description of the course.--markhab (talk) 02:52, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a link to a map, showing both routes. I don't know how current it is: http://www.ultimateiditarod.com/maplarge.htm

Thanks. I was thinking of adding such a map at the beginning of the article, like the maps of mountains and cities, which I think give a good visual idea of the topic. I believe we would need their permission to do that. I am not sure of the details but will look into it. --markhab (talk) 03:08, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I produced one, though I consider it tentative. I'd appreciate suggestions for improvement. —EncMstr (talk) 07:25, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

History

removed 'priests' from list of 'needed supplies, though it was amusing HIM (talk) 03:51, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gary Paulsens book (woodsong)

Should we include that Woodsong focuses on the Iditarod race in certain parts?Frozen4322 (talk) 15:52, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know the book, but if it provides any insight into aspects of the Iditarod, wouldn't it be better as a source? —EncMstr (talk) 16:40, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it does have alot of information about the dangers, how some mushers go comepletely insane Frozen4322 (talk) 13:46, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Opening "sentence"

The opening sentence of this article not a sentence. Where the verb? --JHP (talk) 03:38, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
