Klein Oak is an active yearly participant in the Texas French Symposium, a state-wide academic and non-academic competition that focuses on many aspects of French/francophone language and culture. For the past three consecutive Symposiums, the first-place sweepstakes winners -- some of whom were awarded a trip to France -- have both been from Klein Oak (in addition to many other top-10 placers and numerous other awards in the individual academic events). In 2009, the school became the second-place sweepstakes winner, and in the 2010 and 2011 Symposiums the school won the first-place school sweepstakes award in the large school division. In 2011, many Klein Oak students who had participated in the Texas French Symposium had their awards and honors taken away. Word had leaked about a planned cheating that has occurred over the past several years, involving many Klein Oak students and teachers. Klein Oak become officially banned from involvement in any more Texas French Symposium competitions, as announced by the board of directors managing this years symposium. Arrangements are being made for a new location for the 2012 symposium said to be happening in March to April of 2011.

Klein Oak High School is a Blue Ribbon public high school in unincorporated Harris County, Texas, United States. It was established in August 1982. The school's principal is Ron Webster.

Klein Oak was the third high school in Klein ISD. The school, which serves grades 9 through 12, is administered by the Klein Independent School District. Several areas of unincorporated Harris County, including Kohrville, WindRose, Augusta Pines, Northhampton and Gleannloch Farms, are zoned to Klein Oak.

As of the 2010-11 school year, the school had an enrollment of 3,889 students and 186.2 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 18.6.[1] It is also home to the only International Baccalaureate program in the district.

Demographics

The Klein Oak Zone has the largest growth rate in Klein ISD, gaining nearly 300 students in just one year. Enrollment dropped drastically in 2003 when Klein Collins High School took nearly half of Klein Oak's enrollment. The school recently moved back up to 5A in the 2006-2007 school year.

Academics

During the 1994-96 school years, Klein Oak High School was recognized with the Blue Ribbon School Award of Excellence by the United States Department of Education,[6] the highest award an American school can receive.[7][8]

The IB Diploma Programme has been offered at this school since February 2004. It is the only school in Klein ISD which offers the program.[9]

Advanced Placement, Dual Credit, and International Baccalaureate Program

Klein Oak offers the Dual Credit and Advanced Placement Program for those students wishing to go to the advanced level. Klein Oak High School offers the International Baccalaureate Program, which is an advanced honors internationally-known curriculum.

Extracurricular activities

Klein Oak High School has been named a GRAMMY Signature school twice: once in the 2001-2002 school year, and most recently for the 2006-2007 school year.[10] Its music department has been recognized over the past decades for outstanding performances in numerous competitions.
