== Deletion of File:Americanwarmewmrev.tif ==

Hey Skier Dude,
I'm somewhat new to wikipedia and have been having some trouble. I uploaded File:Americanwarmewmrev.tif to use for an article I am writing for the non-profit. There is no copyright on the logo, so I don't understand how this could be removed for copyright infringement. Secondly, I am an intern with this non-profit and as I stated in the pictures description, we own the picture and give anyone else the right to use it, and if they wish, we would like them to mention our website when doing so. Perhaps I have the wrong tag for the picture.

There is no copyright on the picture so there is no copyright infringement. As the owner of this picture I give wikipedia and anyone else the right to use it. Please restore this picture to working order, or tell me how to make this right.

Thank you,
John Edward Steckroth 15:53, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned image

I tried to put that image in the article but I don't know why the image was not displayed. Maybe you can help? I tried.. ANd syntax was also correct..--Kondicherry (talk) 08:42, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Skier Dude. I see that you deleted the previous version of this image, at least I think you did. But I want to point out that the previous image was actually the one with a fair-use rationale and source. This new version was uploaded on top of "mine" without updating the rationale or source. Since you are an administrator, will you fix this by undeleting the previous image and addressing the other uploader about it? I would have reverted and spoken to that other uploader, but I was busy at the time I discovered the change a few days ago, didn't feel like a confrontation, and figured that the user would be reverted by the person examining the two versions before deciding which one to delete. Flyer22 (talk) 17:34, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Skier Dude, do you have anything to state about this? Or should I ask the user where they got the source for this image, use that, and update the rest of the fair-use rationale myself? Or just re-upload the previous image? Flyer22 (talk) 22:19, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Got it - overwritten version deleted as non-sourced. Thanks. Skier Dude (talk) 03:22, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Flyer22 (talk) 19:31, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Montage images up for deletion

You stated for each that, "although the individual pics are listed with claimed copyright status, no sources are given to be able to prove these. Without the sources, no way to confirm the (c) status of each image". But the source of each image is given on each of their image description pages. --Geniac (talk) 02:27, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Skier Dude

You sent my a message that my pictures File:Members 01 sm.jpg and File:Ilbeach.jpg will be delted if they are not on a page by the problem is that the page they were on was deleted and I am trying to but it back online but until then the picture will not have and online page but they are on my user page : [[1]] so is they a way that they can stay online until I can get the page up?

Paulmcanders (talk) 07:23, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Skier Dude. You have new messages at Mariordo's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Dear Skier Dude

I would like to know how I can add a picture that is on a wikipedia page in English to another language? i tried before but it did not work. Is it only possible to do that with wikipedia House of Commons?

File:Mzi eolcwcpe 170x170-75.jpg

You have tagged this image as

This file is up for deletion, per CSD F5 (orphaned fair use)

I removed the image from the article Don't Wanna Lose You Again (as noted on the talk page) since the article stated:-

Surprisingly, the official cover for the song sports an obvious spelling mistake, writing "Lose" as "Loose". For an unknown reason, this was never corrected, so thus, the cover presented here is an interpretation of the official cover, with the spelling mistake removed.

My understanding of fair use for record covers is that it includes:-

The entire cover: because the image is cover art, a form of product packaging, the entire image is needed to identify the product, properly convey the meaning and branding intended, and avoid tarnishing or misrepresenting the image.

Clearly, an "interpretation of the official cover" fails to meet this purpose, so I believe it needs deleting, but possibly for a different reason, and possibly sooner?
Hope I've understood the complexities of fair-use - if not the image can be re-inserted back into the article. - Arjayay (talk) 08:51, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

deletion of 'unused' non-free images LarianStudiosLogo.png , LarianLogo.png and LarianStudiosLogoM.png

These images were linked to in a draft update for the article they were intended for, and removed by a bot several times since it wasn't the article named when the files were uploaded (though it was a sub page of the Talk page for the main article, named 'draft', so that should have been obvious).

Please un-delete these images. I get a warning to check the deletion log before re-uploading the images, but can not actually re-upload them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:LarianStudiosLogo.png http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:LarianLogo.png http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:LarianStudiosLogoM.png

I have requested feedback from Larian Studios on the article edits, and will hopefully be able to update the main page soon, so the draft page shouldn't be around too much longer.

Vandalism???

I do not recall making that edit. I see it on my edit summary, but I have never gone to that file in my memory. And I have never made an accusation of vandalism in all my history of editing on Wikipedia (I questioned at the help desk how this could have happened.) My apologies.    → Michael J   13:41, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I went to the help desk about this. The explanation is here.    → Michael J   05:57, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

image mistakenly deleted

Hi Skier Dude

You appear to have deleted the image portrait(low res).jpg from this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carole_Morin

I have in fact already forwarded relevant permissions, but perhaps there was a problem tying this up with the image. The permission is pasted below.

Please do get back to me or the photographer if there is anything else you need from us. If it's easier for you for me to re upload the image please let me know.

All best wishes Huasen

Orphaned Image - JGBS-Logo.png

Hi,

I've uploaded the image for use with an article about Jindal Global Business School. The article (with the image in place) should be done in the next day or two. I'm hoping that's not an issue. Do let me know. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.169.64.9 (talk) 20:09, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You have deleted the image File:Howard.cole.jpg.jpeg . Yesterday the creator sent a permission letter to permissions-en@wikimedia.org What happens now? Will the image be reinstated by someone at permissions-en ? peterh7 (talk)

I noticed that you deleted the subject file 24 Jan 2012. This is a headshot of the subject, taken by professional photographer, Kriten Hoeberman. On 10 January 2012, Ms. Hoeberman submitted an email to permissions_commons@wikimedia.org giving her permission as the copyright-holder for am "Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0" (unported) and GNU Free Documentation License (unversioned, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts. I am not sure if I need to notate this information on the photo of if someone finally gets around to reading the license submissions and replaces the photo that was erroneourly removed. Please let me know. I am happy to forward a copy of Ms. Hoeberman's email to you.

Hello. The instructions I received regarding File:Hocking River at Logan, Ohio.jpg indicated that if I contacted OTRS, I should "add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion." However I the file was deleted anyway with the notation "can be restored if OTRS is received." So which one of us was wasting his time ... ? — Kralizec! (talk) 01:38, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted File: "MEG&bandit.jpg"

Hi, there.

I have come to learn that you have deleted a file which I uploaded last week, "File:MEG&bandit.jpg" ‎for reason F5: Unused non-free media.

I am a little confused, as from what I understand, as this image was used as part of a book cover by Morris E. Goodman, it constitutes as accepted fair use media. Perhaps I am understanding this wrong, and would gladly welcome an explanation.

Please note that Mr. Goodman is a friend of mine, and is helping me as I am producing a feature film on his life. I have his permission to use this photo. (Is there anything else you need to prove permission?)

Nao Bustamante

Could you put Nao Bustamante's page back up, or should I just start a new one? I went looking for it as I teach her work (am a professor at UC Riverside, and write about the artist - and sometimes edit pages of artists I research - so that my students are at least getting accurate information). I've organized a handful of others to work on this with me. But it'd be easier, probably to edit the old page than to create a new one. I haven't seen the old one so I'm not sure what the best path is.

Please advise.

Thank you,

J. Doyle — Preceding unsigned comment added by Judyholliday (talkcontribs) 16:12, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The old article massively failed the notability requirements for people - being the sister of a politician is not notable (it's not inherited) and the article reeked of being a thinly veiled advertisment piece. I would suggest an entire re-write looking at WP:Notability (people) and Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Biographies and Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons - Wikipedia:Starting an article can be a big help as well. If you would like a sandbox version of the old article, just leave me a note here. Skier Dude (talk) 17:27, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So, yes, I would like a sandbox version. I haven't edited on wikip for a few years, seems like processes have changed (esp talk page). I think it was kindof a shame that the page was just taken down: but it sounds like no one was paying attention to it. If I can access a sandbox, can I edit it? Or should I just start over. I didn't want to start over if what I started was going to be subject to deletion. I want to get something minimal up there - a stub sort of thing - so that others can contribute & edit. Judyholliday (talk) 19:57, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A user sandbox version of the last revision of the article can be found at User:Judyholliday/Nao Bustamante sandbox. You can see from the cleanup tags on it the issues that need to be addressed. Skier Dude (talk) 22:04, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Image

I am sorry to bother you with this but being a new user I am not familiar with Wikipedia's rules and regulations. The message I see is as follows:

What do I need to do in order for the image to be re-posted? I have obtained this image by Mr. Vassilis Krommidas himself, who happens to be a good friend. Thank you and best regards Maria Makri (talk) 07:52, 2 February 2012 (UTC)Maria Makri[reply]

File move question

Hey Dude, what should I do after I rename a file —

Sumanch (talk) 05:39, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If the old/redirect has no links, then just tag it as G8. If there's a reason to keep the old file name (things link to it), you can leave it as is, or you can update all of the links from the redirect to the new name and then ask for the G8. Skier Dude (talk) 05:42, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Sumanch (talk) 05:44, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

User talk:Deepmath

Hi Skier Dude. Why did you delete User talk:Deepmath

05:07, 22 September 2009 Skier Dude (talk | contribs) deleted "User talk:Deepmath" ‎ (G8: Page dependent on a deleted or nonexistent page)

This would not appear to be a legitimate reason. If there is no good reason for it to be deleted, would you please undelete. Also, if you happen to know, can you say why Deepmath (talk · contribs) is blocked? (I guess that it relates to stuff deleted from his talk page?). --SmokeyJoe (talk) 13:39, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's been restored - there were some odd page moves going on there (I deleted it redlink redirect) The account was blocked (per admin note) for attcking other users & then disruptive editing of the talk page. Skier Dude (talk) 01:06, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for answering. What do you mean it has been restored? It was recreated 20 Jan 2012? Isn't there a long history of deleted revision? I don't see any page moves, or page-move archives of his user_talk page.
I found the blocking discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive558#User:Deepmath. It was maybe a bit bold, at indefinite. I think the guy was only temporarily responding poorly to several XfD discussions concerning his created articles and userspace pages. I note that he is lurking, for example. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 01:41, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oops-you're right, it was recreated. However I'm not involved in the wikidrama in this; all I did is delete the redirect (talk -> User) - you need to discuss the rest of this with User:Jpgordon who did/undid the redirect and the re-block or User:Georgewilliamherbert who did the block and deletion of the user page. As I know nothing about the history in this, I'll leave this to those that were involved to deal with the issue, including the page moves, as I'm unclear why these were done. Skier Dude (talk) 01:51, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I understand you. Thank you. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 02:41, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Image deleted, what do I need to do?

Hi Skier Dude,

I noticed you have deleted an image I've uploaded on the page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oleg_Bakhtiyarov I took this image from Oleg Bakhtiyarov's official web site where he is references as one of the lecturers: http://www.university.kiev.ua/person Here is the image link: http://www.university.kiev.ua/sites/default/files/person/olegb.jpg I considered this is a valid "fair use" scenario, since it is like a "company promoting their services in public domain" (I saw that description somewhere in Wikipedia HOWTO).

Could you please guide me into what I need to do to publish this image correctly? I am new to Wikipedia editing and these legal issues are very cryptic to me.

Thanks, Igor — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ikusakov (talkcontribs) 01:23, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I was hoping for a full protection, in my opinion the ip edits are in good faith and accurate to all the sources. It would force all parties involved to go to the talk page. I did not want to get in the middle of edit warring.--UnQuébécois (talk) 03:16, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It looked like the majority of the back & forth was with 218.250.159.25 & registered users; I've watchlisted the page and if it starts again, I'll bump it up - if I'm not online & it starts up again, just pop a note on rfpp again and explain the situation (feel free to point to here if there's any questions); I always try to err on the side of caution (lightest 'hammer' and shortest time) Skier Dude (talk) 03:23, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I happened to this page somehow, and noticed the back and forth, did a little looking at refs and agreed with the Ip user! I am more outspoken in places where I have a little more knowledge, but try to err on the side of caution also! Thanks.--UnQuébécois (talk) 03:26, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dear UnQuébécois & Skier Dude, sorry for stepping into a discussion that I was not originally a part of. Incidentally I have also exchanged messages with the same IP user on different subject. He is very aggressive and is not complying to Wikipedia policies despite being told several times. He has his own version of the processes. Note: I am not saying that the content he is trying to update is wrong; it might be well right and I pointed it out as well to him. Read here. Updates have been made without citing proper sources. No one is telling him NOT to update, instead the user has been told to follow processes. Now that you guys have protected the page without actually reviewing what was earlier done on the page, you have justified his doings. Atleast discuss with other editors involved before taking such an action. One of the people involved is very senior Admin with close to 200,000 edits. Check User talk:218.250.159.25 and read how many different experienced users are involved. May I please ask you HOW is the name change (to Stephen Huỳnh) in Infobox justified (along with other actions) without citing proper sources? You are endorsing this; are you? Don’t be unfair to other experienced members just because someone is being very persistent and making lots of noise. Cheers AKS 08:04, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Take a look at meta:The Wrong Version - no justification is ever implied in protections. Skier Dude (talk) 04:44, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the assist!
