GAN backlog elimination drive

So here's where the coordinators' main job begins. You will go over each review and check against the good article criteria (having the criteria and review page in 2 different browser tabs is very useful). To coordinate effort and avoid duplication (plus letting the participants know our progress), mark review status with {{in progress}} or {{done}} in front of the user's name like this. Use asterisk (*) to mark questionable reviews and we'll examine the matter more closely. OhanaUnitedTalk page 15:30, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

On it. AstroCog (talk) 15:42, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, good suggestion, let's do spot check then. And if spot check reveals problematic reviews by some particular editors, then we'll closely examine their reviews one by one. OhanaUnitedTalk page 19:20, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

2nd opinion on review

Hi, where should 2nd opinions on Elim Drive noms that you have tagged be placed? Jezhotwells (talk) 04:08, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm planning to ask for volunteers to add second opinions to the drive talk page and, if necessary, nominate the articles for reassessment. Was going to do it when I'm finished checking, but if you're up for it, you can go ahead and take a look at the ones marked so far. AstroCog (talk) 13:21, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done, in the sense that I've checked your reviews. I'm not checking right now that all holds are resolved. Just checking for reviews that need second opinions. Cheers, AstroCog (talk) 02:05, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/GAN backlog elimination drives/December 2011

Hi,

I reviewed your reviews for the backlog elimination drive/December 2011 and they all seemed good to me except one Bridgewater Associates. It was subsequently tagged with [citation needed] and [failed verification] some of which at least seemed justified. Would you take a look?

Also, thanks for all your hard work. It's much appreciated by me! Best wishes, MathewTownsend (talk) 00:29, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like I didn't see the additional tags after I made the review (and the source spot checks). I sent the article to GAR, since those tags haven't been addressed since December. That's about all I think I should do on that. Other than that, I'd say my review was fine. Cheers, AstroCog (talk) 01:46, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the alert Astro, I'll attend to the cite tags on the Bridgewater article.--KeithbobTalk 21:33, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
In appreciation of all your work in making the GA backlog drive sucessful! Thank you! MathewTownsend (talk) 00:36, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you no longer need community reassessment then I can either close it (it will be keep, but will allow you to fail it with you individual re-assessment if warranted) or you could tag it for speedy deletion (author or technical might work). AIRcorn (talk) 02:25, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Decided it was just as easy to close it as keep and since I commented it might have run into problems being speedied. AIRcorn (talk) 02:58, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

February 2012

Hi Astrocog,

Thank you for the notification. I know that the pictures have a copyright on the website. I have taken permission from the company to publish the pictures and the copyright holder will soon be sending an e-mail to Wikimedia commons for the confirmation. If the permission is not received, the pictures will automatically be deleted. Once again thank you for showing concern.
Inlandmamba (talk) 16:56, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Give me some time before deleting the pictures. I'll ask the copyright holder website to send the e-mail to Wikimedia commons. If they don't send the permission within the next three days, I'll remove the images myself. Sorry for causing inconvenience.

Inlandmamba (talk) 17:10, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, there wasn't a notice on the images that they would be vetted for commons licensing. You should put a comment the image pages or on their talk pages so that editors will know not to tag them, like I did. When you upload the images, there should be an option that a permission email is pending. Otherwise, you can't claim that they are your own work, which is what you did. Cheers, AstroCog (talk) 17:32, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Astrocog,

I placed the template and notified an OTRS volunteer about the situation. He has reviewed the case and has granted the permission. Sorry for not placing the OTRS permission tag earlier. Next time I'll keep that in mind :) Thanks

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive update

GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.

Participation: We have had 58 people sign up for this drive so far, which compares favorably with our last drive, and 27 have copy-edited at least one article. If you have signed up but have not yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: Our target of completing the 2010 articles has almost been reached, with only 56 remaining of the 194 we had at the start of the drive. The last ones are always the most difficult, so thank you if you are able to help copy-edit any of the remaining articles. We have reduced the total backlog by 163 articles so far.

Special thanks: Special thanks to Stfg, who has been going through the backlog and doing some preliminary vetting of the articles—removing copyright violations, doing initial clean-up, and nominating some for deletion. This work has helped make the drive a more pleasant experience for all our volunteers.

Your drive coordinators – Dianna (talk), Stfg (talk), and Dank (talk)

GOCE March drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive
GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graph

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter.

Participation

Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months.

Progress report

During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. We were able to complete 500 articles this month! End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here.

When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy-editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy-editing at this time for other reasons. The {{GOCEreviewed}} tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators.

Thank you for participating in the March 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. Our next copy-edit drive will be in May.

Your drive coordinators – Dianna (Talk), Stfg (Talk), and Dank (talk)

Main page appearance: The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.

This is a note to let the main editors of The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on May 7, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/May 7, 2012. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. is an American Western/science fiction television series created by Jeffrey Boam and Carlton Cuse. It ran for 27 episodes on the Fox network starting in the 1993–94 season. Set in the American West of 1893, the series follows its title character, a Harvard-educated lawyer-turned-bounty hunter hired by a group of wealthy industrialists to track and capture outlaw John Bly and his gang. Bruce Campbell plays Brisco, who is joined by a colorful group of supporting characters, including Julius Carry as fellow bounty hunter Lord Bowler and Christian Clemenson as stick-in-the-mud lawyer Socrates Poole. While ostensibly a Western, the series routinely includes elements of the science fiction and steampunk genres. The series earned high ratings at the beginning of its season, but later episodes failed to attract a substantial number of viewers. Fox canceled the show at the end of its first and only season. In 2006, Warner Home Video released a DVD set containing all 27 episodes, which was anticipated by fans and critics. The series has been remembered fondly by critics, who praise its humor and unique blend of genres. (more...)

GOCE May mid-drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors May 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

Participation: Out of 49 people signed up for this drive so far, 26 have copy-edited at least one article. It's a smaller group than last drive, but we're making good progress. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Template:J

Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive, largely due to the efforts of Lfstevens and the others on the leaderboard. Thanks to all. We have reduced our target group of articles—January, February, and March 2011—by over half, and it looks like we will achieve that goal. Good progress is being made on the overall backlog as well, with over 500 articles copy-edited during the drive so far. The total backlog currently sits at around 3200 articles.

Hall of Fame: GOCE coordinator Diannaa was awarded a spot in the GOCE Hall of Fame this month! She has copy-edited over 1567 articles during these drives, and surpassed the 1,000,000-word mark on May 5. On to the second million! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa and Stfg

At the end of last year you performed the WP:GA review of Texas State University–San Marcos and offered a number of suggestions. In your final comments you suggested after performing a rewrite of the article that it be peer reviewed before being nominated for GA again. I made a pass through the article attempting to make it more similar to other GA and FA articles about universities. I put the article up for peer review back in March, but it was auto-archived due to no one taking it on. I've put it up for peer review again, but after a week no one has offered to look it over. I'd like for it to be reviewed this time around. The peer review volunteers list doesn't include any active editors who advertise an interest in university articles. I was wondering if you would be willing to perform the peer review of the article. If you are willing to do so, the peer review page is at Wikipedia:Peer review/Texas State University–San Marcos/archive2. I am definitely interested in seeing what could be done to the article at this point to move it towards a passable GA nomination. Thank you in advance for any comments or suggestions on getting a peer review completed. --TreyGeek (talk) 05:31, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have a lot of time right now, but if you don't mind being patient, I'll see what I can do in the next couple weeks. Cheers, AstroCog (talk) 20:13, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Both attempts at using WP:PR has resulted in a backlog such that it is automatically archived. I'd like someone to review the article at some point, even if it isn't an immediate review. So, whenever you have a chance to look it over anf offer your suggestions, I'd appreciate it. You can leave your comments on the article's peer review page, the article's talk page or my talk page. They are all on my watchlist so I'll see your comments and will look into them to improve the article. Thanks. --TreyGeek (talk) 04:54, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE May drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors May 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up

Participation: Out of 54 people who signed up this drive, 32 copy-edited at least one article. Last drive's superstar, Lfstevens, again stood out, topping the leader board in all three categories and copy-editing over 700 articles. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: We were once again successful in our primary goal—removing the oldest three months from the backlog—while removing 1166 articles from the queue, the second-most in our history. The total backlog currently sits at around 2600 articles, down from 8323 when we started out just over two years ago.

Coodinator election: The six-month term for our third tranche of Guild coordinators will be expiring at the end of June. We will be accepting nominations for the fourth tranche of coordinators, who will also serve a six-month term. Nominations will open starting on June 5. For complete information, please have a look at the election page. – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa, and Stfg
