re: Bankable Stars entry in Wikipedia

Siawase -- My name is James Ulmer, the creator of The Ulmer Scale, and first I want to say thank you for you editorial comments on "bankable stars," which I just read tonight. I also want to add that I have never contributed to Wikipedia and so please forgive if I am off-format on any of the guidelines for comment.

I this it would be most worthwhile, in the "bankable actors" section, for Wikipedia to note the relationship between The Hollywood Reporter's star power surveys and The Ulmer Scale. I would like Wikipedia to be aware that I created, wrote and conducted the original surveys entitled "Star Power" and "Director Power" in The Hollywood Reporter, beginning in 1990, when I was International Editor. I continued to conduct, report and write the stories about these surveys through 1997, when I left the paper to form my own company, The Ulmer Scale, in 1997. We now provide the most current and complete surveys and statistics on bankable actors in our publication, The Actor's Hot List, covering the bankability, in three different movie budget levels, of more than 1400 actors worldwide.

It would be good to have a link on Wikipedia to a 2001 review by Detour magazine of my book, "James Ulmer's Hollywood Hot List -- The Complete Guide to Star Ranking" from St. Martin's Press, as it quite correctly notes the history of how The Hollywood Reporter's bankable actor list relates to The Ulmer Scale. It is the most reliable summation of the company history and my work on bankability that I have found. I have tried to attach it here, to no avail, but will gladly email it to you, or whomever may require it. Apologies again if I have not noticed any guidelines on how to attach pdf files in the comment pages --= I am traveling in between speaking engagements at the moment.

External link to lornaparis.com on Black Doll article removed

Hello Siawase,

The article is about black dolls and the lornaparis site is about "Lorna Paris" and her (OOAK) black leather dolls and collectibles. "Debbie Garrett" who provided most if not all of the content on the Black doll article is an avid collector of Lorna Paris's dolls and several of Lorna's dolls can be found in Debbie's book "The Definitive Guide to Collecting Black Dolls", also the Philadelphia Doll museum listed on the article and founded by "Barbara Whiteman" has Lorna's dolls in their collection. The black doll community in the U.S. is a small one and people looking for information on black dolls on the web would appreciate external links like the one I pointed to lornaparis.com. The lornaparis domain is not solely for the purposes of promotional sales, but moreover an online gallery displaying the works of Lorna Paris's artistic creations, of whom has a huge following in the black doll community. I kindly ask that you reconsider the removal of this link. Please advise.

Hello Siawase. You are probably right. This one is way too modern to be traditional. It's a bit sad because this picture improve the overall page esthetically. Leighton Meester's recent image

Hello, I have tried numerous times to post a recent picture of Ms. Meester, but my edits were always rebuffed while that picture that remains was blatantly taken from a fansite originally. Most recently I had the opportunity to photograph her myself and uploaded the picture but it's still considered a copyright violation. Frot

Hello, Siawase. I am coming to you about this because I sometimes see you around on sexuality topics, LGBT topics among them (such as Tribadism, where you even commented on my improvements to the article). I approach you today about the Frot article, which has been a problematic article for a long time, but also one that I feel I have finally made decent; my improvements to the article have been acknowledged by others (for example, here and here). But there is one editor I cannot seem to satisfy. I have been having disputes with the editor named Mijopaalmc. This can be seen on the talk page. Basically, I feel that I am constantly improving the article (adding reliable sources, tweaking things, balancing things out, etc.) and that he is constantly hindering the article (removing reliably sourced text outright, complaining about trivial matters, nitpicking, etc.). Very recently, he has been removing the text that some frot advocates are concerned with the medical risks associated with anal sex, saying that the references don't back it up. His conclusion is false, as I explained on the talk page. The sources most definitely back up that part of the reason some frot advocates do not engage in anal sex is because of the associated health risks. Several hours ago, I reworded the bit to "diseases" instead of "health risks" and added extra reliable sources to back this up. This was done as I simultaneously fixed up the rest of the section (Debates). Mijopaalmc hasn't reverted or nitpicked again yet, but I feel that he will. If you can help out with discussions or simply watching this article, please do. I need help regarding Mijopaalmc's constant nitpicking of the article. Nothing I do ever seems to satisfy him, and I often worry of violating WP:3RR when interacting with his edits. Several hours ago, I don't feel that I violated 3RR, since I feel I was reverting vandalism; he was outright removing reliably sourced material and without a valid argument or further discussion, and I warned him of this on his talk page.

I'm just asking for help. Everything else we have tried has not truly helped, and we seriously need more editors weighing in or looking after the article. Flyer22 (talk) 17:10, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

So much wrong with the article on the history of BJD

I recently stumbled across this Wiki page. And i have to state, this is the most biased, and opinionated wiki thread i've seen yet. First of all, Mr. SHigeta created the volks dolls originally for his WIFE. As a gift to her. He himself stated his at several dolpas. no one, not two, but three seperate times. Also, why is the focus all on Lolita, and anime? there is so much more associations with this hobby than just those. I also don't like how the article makes Dollfie owners out to be creepy, deluded freaks. What's with all the references to talking to their dolls, and having conversations with them? 99 percent of us do NOT do that. Reliable sources

Thank you for your advise (again). I completely understand the intent of reliable sources. I am a university professor and actively involved in publishing. With Wikipedia articles I am constantly looking for new sources to back up what I'm discussing. My take, however, is that some sources that are not published books or professional articles may still give better ideas on the subject than no source at all. At times, even, I've found webstring or discussion forums to have better information and insight that some "published" books. Just because it is a book doesn't mean it is a good source, though many Wikipedia editors think so. So, a webstring with an intense discussion of the subject (a particular toy brand for instance) - and with pictures as examples can be more helpful even than a book, or just a statement that may or may not be verified at all.--Cstevencampbell (talk) 05:26, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Hey, Siawase, long time no talk. I got in the middle of a messy situation on the Lohan article with an editor, based on hindsight, wanting to move the musical material to a separate section along with another infobox. I think I've pretty much pulled myself out of it so the editor got what they wanted, but I'd like you to look at it to see if you agree with the changes. I just wish the article weren't so long. I reverted a later change the editor made, but the editor reverted right back. They don't use edit summaries, and they have a history of contentious editing. I did not revert again. I understand the removal of the new catergories I added to the doll pages. However, why were the additions to the 'see also' section removed? There is enough topic similiarity to the edited page main topic. Also, the edit to the first paragraph on the 'Ball-jointed doll' page was a link to the Dollfie page, nothing was deleted. Dollhouse wiki

Hi Siawase

I see you have edited a lot of dolls and dollhouse pages and that is why I write to you. I own the biggest dollhouse wiki in the world with 1200 pages. As far as I know there are no mentions of the wiki in books or magazines thus I think it is not yet worth a Wikipedia mention after 3 years. Is there another way to be "remarkable"? I understand, but I don't know if you are referring to the All in the Family cites I put in. I was suspect too, but figured ALL the stuff was checked already and wiki was still looking for cites... so I gave them. I didn't know how to bring this up that the info I cited was CLEARLY COPIED and against the rules. I hope this explanation helps. Thanks. Ken
