re: Bankable Stars entry in Wikipedia

Siawase -- My name is James Ulmer, the creator of The Ulmer Scale, and first I want to say thank you for you editorial comments on "bankable stars," which I just read tonight. I also want to add that I have never contributed to Wikipedia and so please forgive if I am off-format on any of the guidelines for comment.

I this it would be most worthwhile, in the "bankable actors" section, for Wikipedia to note the relationship between The Hollywood Reporter's star power surveys and The Ulmer Scale. I would like Wikipedia to be aware that I created, wrote and conducted the original surveys entitled "Star Power" and "Director Power" in The Hollywood Reporter, beginning in 1990, when I was International Editor. I continued to conduct, report and write the stories about these surveys through 1997, when I left the paper to form my own company, The Ulmer Scale, in 1997. We now provide the most current and complete surveys and statistics on bankable actors in our publication, The Actor's Hot List, covering the bankability, in three different movie budget levels, of more than 1400 actors worldwide.

It would be good to have a link on Wikipedia to a 2001 review by Detour magazine of my book, "James Ulmer's Hollywood Hot List -- The Complete Guide to Star Ranking" from St. Martin's Press, as it quite correctly notes the history of how The Hollywood Reporter's bankable actor list relates to The Ulmer Scale. It is the most reliable summation of the company history and my work on bankability that I have found. I have tried to attach it here, to no avail, but will gladly email it to you, or whomever may require it. Apologies again if I have not noticed any guidelines on how to attach pdf files in the comment pages --= I am traveling in between speaking engagements at the moment.

Also, I would like to offer a link to my recent interview on NPR's "All Things Considered" from August 2010, entitled "Company Ranks Celebrity Bankability"

The link is: [1]

There are many more recent articles involving The Ulmer Scale (from New York Times, etc.) which may or may not be of interest to Wikipedia editors, and I would be more than happy to provide any assistance that may be needed, and hope that I am working with the "conflict of interest" guidelines of Wikipedia by providing you third-party references and media coverage of my company and my work in the field of bankable actors and directors worldwide.

Thank you.

External link to lornaparis.com on Black Doll article removed

Hello Siawase,

The article is about black dolls and the lornaparis site is about "Lorna Paris" and her (OOAK) black leather dolls and collectibles. "Debbie Garrett" who provided most if not all of the content on the Black doll article is an avid collector of Lorna Paris's dolls and several of Lorna's dolls can be found in Debbie's book "The Definitive Guide to Collecting Black Dolls", also the Philadelphia Doll museum listed on the article and founded by "Barbara Whiteman" has Lorna's dolls in their collection. The black doll community in the U.S. is a small one and people looking for information on black dolls on the web would appreciate external links like the one I pointed to lornaparis.com. The lornaparis domain is not solely for the purposes of promotional sales, but moreover an online gallery displaying the works of Lorna Paris's artistic creations, of whom has a huge following in the black doll community. I kindly ask that you reconsider the removal of this link. Please advise.

Regards, Dominic Cox

Re: Japanese doll picture

Hello Siawase. You are probably right. This one is way too modern to be traditional. It's a bit sad because this picture improve the overall page esthetically. I didn't take any pictures of traditional dolls, but I'll try to take some as soon as I can. In the meantime, what do you suggest? Jordy Theiller (talk) 08:23, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Leighton Meester's recent image

Hello, I have tried numerous times to post a recent picture of Ms. Meester, but my edits were always rebuffed while that picture that remains was blatantly taken from a fansite originally. Most recently I had the opportunity to photograph her myself and uploaded the picture but it's still considered a copyright violation. How do I verify? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lightsout00 (talkcontribs) 22:24, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

First, sorry if I'm not using the talk page properly. Second, thank you for responding so promptly. But yes, the image was originally uploaded here at models.com: http://models.com/oftheminute/?p=20673 The image posted is edited and resized however. Hello, Siawase. I am coming to you about this because I sometimes see you around on sexuality topics, LGBT topics among them (such as Tribadism, where you even commented on my improvements to the article). I approach you today about the Frot article, which has been a problematic article for a long time, but also one that I feel I have finally made decent; my improvements to the article have been acknowledged by others (for example, here and here). But there is one editor I cannot seem to satisfy. I have been having disputes with the editor named Mijopaalmc. This can be seen on the talk page. Basically, I feel that I am constantly improving the article (adding reliable sources, tweaking things, balancing things out, etc.) and that he is constantly hindering the article (removing reliably sourced text outright, complaining about trivial matters, nitpicking, etc.). Very recently, he has been removing the text that some frot advocates are concerned with the medical risks associated with anal sex, saying that the references don't back it up. His conclusion is false, as I explained on the talk page. The sources most definitely back up that part of the reason some frot advocates do not engage in anal sex is because of the associated health risks. Several hours ago, I reworded the bit to "diseases" instead of "health risks" and added extra reliable sources to back this up. This was done as I simultaneously fixed up the rest of the section (Debates). Mijopaalmc hasn't reverted or nitpicked again yet, but I feel that he will. If you can help out with discussions or simply watching this article, please do. I need help regarding Mijopaalmc's constant nitpicking of the article. Nothing I do ever seems to satisfy him, and I often worry of violating WP:3RR when interacting with his edits. Several hours ago, I don't feel that I violated 3RR, since I feel I was reverting vandalism; he was outright removing reliably sourced material and without a valid argument or further discussion, and I warned him of this on his talk page.

I'm just asking for help. Everything else we have tried has not truly helped, and we seriously need more editors weighing in or looking after the article. Flyer22 (talk) 17:10, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Hiya, I'm sorry, but this looks rather complicated, and I haven't had a lot of time to dedicate to Wikipedia lately, so I'm not sure how much I can be of help. But I'll add it to my watchlist and see if I can pitch in. I was going to suggest notifying WikiProject LGBT studies, but I saw you already did that. I do hope it can be sorted out. Siawase (talk) 22:06, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. And I understand. The current matter isn't all that complicated, though; I just needed it to be confirmed by another editor that Mijopaalmc was acting wrongly in his continued removal of this...so that the edit warring may be stopped if he decides to continue to remove the text. It is also backed up by more sources now. One of the other editors I contacted weighed in here: Talk:Frot#Other editors. Flyer22 (talk) 22:39, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Sources are legitimate. Please cease with your incessant trolling and deleting of posts before you are reported. If you have a problem with the sources at hand, find better ones. Rather than focus on deleting others contributions, you should perhaps concentrate on contributing your own legitimate information as well. Best of luck!

So much wrong with the article on the history of BJD

I recently stumbled across this Wiki page. And i have to state, this is the most biased, and opinionated wiki thread i've seen yet. First of all, Mr. SHigeta created the volks dolls originally for his WIFE. As a gift to her. He himself stated his at several dolpas. no one, not two, but three seperate times. Also, why is the focus all on Lolita, and anime? there is so much more associations with this hobby than just those. I also don't like how the article makes Dollfie owners out to be creepy, deluded freaks. What's with all the references to talking to their dolls, and having conversations with them? 99 percent of us do NOT do that. And anyone who reads this article is going to think that we are all a bunch of crazy women with no intelligence whatsoever. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Den Monster (talkcontribs) 19:14, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Reliable sources

Thank you for your advise (again). I completely understand the intent of reliable sources. I am a university professor and actively involved in publishing. With Wikipedia articles I am constantly looking for new sources to back up what I'm discussing. My take, however, is that some sources that are not published books or professional articles may still give better ideas on the subject than no source at all. At times, even, I've found webstring or discussion forums to have better information and insight that some "published" books. Just because it is a book doesn't mean it is a good source, though many Wikipedia editors think so. So, a webstring with an intense discussion of the subject (a particular toy brand for instance) - and with pictures as examples can be more helpful even than a book, or just a statement that may or may not be verified at all.--Cstevencampbell (talk) 05:26, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Lohan

Hey, Siawase, long time no talk. I got in the middle of a messy situation on the Lohan article with an editor, based on hindsight, wanting to move the musical material to a separate section along with another infobox. I think I've pretty much pulled myself out of it so the editor got what they wanted, but I'd like you to look at it to see if you agree with the changes. I just wish the article weren't so long. It takes forever just to save changes to it. Hope everything is well with you.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:18, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

I reverted a later change the editor made, but the editor reverted right back. They don't use edit summaries, and they have a history of contentious editing. I did not revert again. I'm going to leave it in your capable, deft hands. Flattery and avoidance issues at the same time. :-) --Bbb23 (talk) 23:40, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

Doll edits

I understand the removal of the new catergories I added to the doll pages. However, why were the additions to the 'see also' section removed? There is enough topic similiarity to the edited page main topic. Also, the edit to the first paragraph on the 'Ball-jointed doll' page was a link to the Dollfie page, nothing was deleted. Dollhouse wiki

Hi Siawase

I see you have edited a lot of dolls and dollhouse pages and that is why I write to you. I own the biggest dollhouse wiki in the world with 1200 pages. As far as I know there are no mentions of the wiki in books or magazines thus I think it is not yet worth a Wikipedia mention after 3 years. Is there another way to be "remarkable"? Judge yourself: http://minitreasures.pbworks.com/

-Johanna aka --Jjanhone (talk) 08:57, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the answer. :) Actually I was more looking about your opinions about what those remarkable sources for dollhouse articles could be. Now they are mostly museum pages. How about dollhouse magazines, do you think they would be ok? Or does it need to be a newspaper or general magazine? --Jjanhone (talk) 08:19, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

Compliment

I'm mostly doing link archiving and crossing the odd T and dotting the odd I at Lindsay Lohan, but I just wanted to say how this article is miles above most Wikipedia celebrity biographies in terms of neutrality and good, solid sourcing — and from a quick glance at the article's history page, I'd say you're responsible for a lot of that. Just wanted to pass along my sincere compliments to the kind of editor Wikipedia could use more of. With regards, Tenebrae (talk) 22:40, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

And I know, technically, it's "of which Wikipedia could use more," but I wouldn't want you to think I was pedantic!   : )   --Tenebrae (talk) 22:41, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

I also wanted to add information about the ONLY franchise opportunity for dolls house shops in the UK. The hobby is slowly down sizing and The Dolls House Store are trying to help small shops open through the UK to increase the exposure of this wonderful hobby!

Thank you for your message. I would prefer to communicate on Wikipedia, if that's alright with you? For starters, if you can, take a look at Wikipedia's guidelines on conflict of interest. You might also want to create an account to make it easier to keep in touch on Wikipedia. Cheers, Siawase (talk) 18:16, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Yes I am happy to communicate here. I have created an account and wish to simply inform the world of our intentions as artists. I have read the COI and I understand completely. We are not looking to sell anything, actually our fine art doesn't make much $$ at all we are mostly focusing our career on a redesign of spirituality and hopefully affecting the world. In the beginning we made soft sculptures that would mimic toys but this was before there was even a term known as "designer toys"

Please read our bio as it is currently,

Artist Statement FriendsWithYou is the fine art collaborative of Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III, working collectively since 2002 with the sole purpose of spreading the positive message of Magic, Luck, and Friendship™. As artists working in a variety of mediums, including paintings, sculpture, large-scale experiential installations, public playgrounds, published works and live performances, FriendsWithYou’s mission is to affect world culture by cultivating special moments of spiritual awareness and powerful, joyous interaction.Forging their own brand of post pop visual language a la Murakami, Arturo Herrera and Yayoi Kusama, FWY take a spiritual and serene approach to form and figure. Their reductive and simplified use of geo¬metric abstraction always contains a whimsical touch. Taking Bourriaud’s Relational Aesthetics to heart and hand, the artists make art of the post-Internet era. Alongside the body of works of Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami and Damien Hirst, FriendsWithYou is a new breed of artist, actively generating culture beyond the traditional art boundaries and reshaping the current contemporary art scene. Blurring the dividing line between perceived “high and low” art, as explained in Murakami’s Superflat essay, exploits other mediums like design and limited edition products from a fine art perspective. FriendsWithYou’s most important artistic tactic to foster these interpersonal relationships is the use of play. By reinterpreting religious traditions, symbols and spiritual practices, FWY invert solemn and serious ideas through the act of play to open up a connection to the divine. Many FriendsWithYou works reference toys because they are meant for play, a tool for unstructured free association and interaction. Their sculptures and paintings, inflatables and objects are meant to trigger the buried, neglected urges and yearnings that a seasoned art viewer may not expect to have activated; playfulness, laugh¬ter and inquisitiveness, with an end result of feeling connected. Influenced by the simple happiness found in everyday life, FriendsWithYou’s work is designed to be accessible to all. Throughout the last ten years, FriendsWithYou has gained international recognition as pioneers in the field of experiential art. What started as hand-sewn toy sculptures has grown into much larger than life projects. FriendsWithYou installations are fully immersive experiences that draw audiences into a magical world where the line between imagination and reality is blurred. From Art Basel Miami, to the inauguration of NYC’s The Highline Park, to a permanent playground commissioned project for Turnberry for the Arts, FriendsWithYou has been invited to participate in some of the most respected international art happenings and exhibitions. FriendsWithYou’s work has been widely exhibited internationally in solo and group shows, and included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCANoMi), the Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA), Haus der Kulturen der Welt Museum in Berlin, Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum (SBCAF) and Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, amongst others. FriendsWithYou plans to continue to spread its connecting message around the world with a simple mission to become Friends-With-You! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Malfi5000 (talkcontribs) 03:31, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

All advertising and branding and works for hire have been seperated from the artist project known as FriendsWithYou. We also would love to include more images of the installations and artworks as well as a larger understanding per project. Thank you! Please let us know how we can improve the messaging on our page to a more clear definition of who we are and what we do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.169.245.177 (talk) 04:32, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Ok let's start here. This is a major change I wish you would correct quoted from the reputable huffington post. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mobileweb/2011/12/15/friendswithyou-inner-space_n_1151062.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.169.245.177 (talk) 20:07, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

FriendsWithYou is the fine art collective of Samuel Borkson and Arturo "Tury" Sandoval, a duo that encapsulates Miami's fun, playful vibe. They've even copyrighted the phrase "Magic, Luck, and Friendship," — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.169.245.177 (talk) 20:05, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Here is another good quote from artnet http://www.artnet.com/magazineus/reviews/kley/friendswithyou-at-the-hole-6-10-11.asp

FriendsWithYou, which launched in 2002, is really good at taking childlike wonder and turning it into hip contemporary art. It’s the wide-eyed esthetic of a toddler and new toys. Compared to FriendsWithYou, high-class schlockmeisters like Jeff Koons and Takashi Murakami seem to be as refined as James McNeill Whistler. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.169.245.177 (talk) 20:22, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi Siawase, where you able to take a look at the quotes from above? I have a list of reliable published articles which outline FriendsWithYou's mission, previous works, etc. How should I go about re-writing this page with you. There is a lot we would like to update, to reflect the true and current company of FWY.

Like I mentioned, for beginners, I would really like to change the opening statement about FWY: "FWY is a commercial art collective based in Miami, Florida,...." FWY is not a "commercial" art collective. As you can see from two of the sources above, FWY is a fine art collective. Could we update this sentence?

I am happy to work with you every step of the way to update this page. Thank you so much for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Malfi5000 (talkcontribs) 21:02, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi, sorry, I don't have time to work on Wikipedia every day at the moment. If possible, could you post your suggestions at the talk page of the article, at Talk:FriendsWithYou instead of here, so that other editors can see and respond too, and maybe someone else is quicker than me. If you want, I can help with copying the suggestions you already posted here. Siawase (talk) 21:58, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

It's ok we are not in a rush to make these changes. Thank you for your reply. Do you think at your next chance to make edits you can begin by helping with a few of the key points we are supporting with articles. We appreciate any help. If yo want to continue on our talk page that would be cool too. Can you help us? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.169.245.177 (talk) 07:20, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Blythe Loves The Littlest Pet Shop dolls.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Blythe Loves The Littlest Pet Shop dolls.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:13, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

Paris Hilton

Hi. What do you think about changing the article structure and sections' names? Now the peer review is done i would love something like this:

  • Early life and education
  • Business ventures
    • Fashion
    • Eendorsement
  • Other media
    • Acting
      • Television
      • Film
    • Music
    • Modeling
    • Writing
  • Celebrity status
  • Charity
  • Personal life
    • Relationships
    • Legal issues
  • Filmography and awards
  • Discography
  • Bibliography

I think this is the way the article should be like, it's way more organised and crear. Paris Hilton has said several times that she mainly sees herself as a businesswoman and she sometimes accepts offers to act, sing and model because they "push her brand". The structure i just created reflects the way Hilton works - it gives priority to the business part while the acting, music and modeling career are put as aditional works. Hope you agree. If you don't, how should the structure of the article be? EricaL2003 (talk) 20:02, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Lindsay Lohan

You apparently don't understand the uses of humor. It was my way of saying that the article on Lindsay Lohan is far too detailed and lengthy, given her relative significance in the grand scheme of things. This, on a talk page. Fair comment and criticism on a public figure, or in this case the treatment thereof. I am against censorship on Wiki or anywhere else. Sca (talk) 18:19, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Hey, Siawase! I wonder if you can request a peer review on this article in order to make this a Featured Article again. I could not do it right now because I requested and am still waiting for a peer review on another article. --George Ho (talk) 21:17, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

Tribadism talk page

That talk page has mostly been used as a forum. Considering that I've seen general talk like that there and at some other Wikipedia talk pages dated to the early years of Wikipedia, it makes me wonder if it was common for editors to go around using the Wikipedia article talk pages as forums in those early years of Wikipedia. I've recently responded in such a forum section on the Tribadism talk page, and am now feeling that the talk page should be archived to keep any of the forum discussions from continuing. I hadn't archived it before because that talk page, just like the edit history of its article, usually is not active. Flyer22 (talk) 15:46, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Okay, looking at it again, it hasn't mostly been used as a forum. But it still needs archiving, and so I am likely to do that at some point. Flyer22 (talk) 15:51, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Requesting peer review on Lindsay Lohan

I cannot do the peer review request myself because I am doing a request on another article. I wonder if you can request it yourself. You are one of major contributors, and I still want the article to be near quality of Featured Article again. --George Ho (talk) 05:38, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

My bad. Still, even when it is a Good Article, improvements are left to be desired. We are not sure about what to do to make the article near Featured-quality again other than condensing info and removing too many refs. But then, again, I did not realize that I asked you two months ago. --George Ho (talk) 06:32, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Re: Prose on American Girl dolls list

Well, I guess the list of Historicals and GOTYs would better be written as prose rather than just a mere list of who's included and as to what year(s) their stories took place, i.e. "the Historical Character lineup currently includes Felicity Merriman, representing the American Revolution, Caroline Abbott..." or something similar that would work on the article.

I thought of having it done as such based on what I observed on a bunch of game engine articles, as some editors would write regarding a particular engine's features on it as a list, despite that it can be presented in a more professional manner.Blake Gripling (talk) 06:46, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

I was checking out Wikipedia's page on "Maple Landmark Woodcraft" by following a link from your "wooden toy train" page. There I found a fellow a lot like me if far more successful. Are you saying I can create such a page describing my 40 year career of toy making as long as I include no external links. If so can you point me in a direction to find guidelines so I don't infringe the rules? Someday antique collectors may find it useful. BTW there is an external link to his company website on that page.

No good deed goes unpunished

You seem to know much about dolls and the various doll communities online. However, in this case you have incorrectly assumed my contribution is "spam". I want to make some things clear to you. I'm not using Wikipedia as a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Also, I'm really not interested in altering search engine ranking. My contributions were appropriate. All contributions from "IP" numbers are not spam. People can have something beneficial to add even if they don't have an account. I realize there's a lot of gray area when it comes to deciding which content is spam. So, I sure don't expect you to reverse yourself. It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong.

You must use your powers for good. Take care. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.38.63.32 (talk) 06:46, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

The Bradford Exchange

I am contacting you regarding the current Wikipedia article for The Bradford Exchange.

Prior to February 2014, the article in place contained outdated information concerning the company's management, affiliated brands and history. In an attempt to update this content with more current information, Brayfrizzell (we) uploaded a change to this article on February 5, 2014. This change remained in place until the most recent edits, made on March 23, 2014.

From what we can see, it appears that the most recent edits are not a complete reversion back to the original pre-February article. Instead, they seem to be more of a hybrid of the original article and the one uploaded on February 5.

We truly appreciate your commitment to represent The Bradford Exchange with true and unbiased content, and we would like to make a request concerning the evolution of this page.

From studying the Wikipedia standards, our assumption of the changes made on February 5 were an attempt to: Bring the information up-to-date Expand the content to make it more robust Remain as unbiased as possible

With these goals in mind, we would like to work with you, if possible, to keep this article up to date, e.g., the current article lists a couple of our brands that have been retired a few years ago. There are also many historical resources that we can make available, if needed, to give the article more depth. Our ultimate goal in this is to stay accurate and relevant concerning The Bradford Exchange brand. We know that Wikipedia has become one of the most important information resources in the world and we value our place in that resource.

Please feel free to e-mail me at jfrizzel@bgeltd.com to let us know how we should proceed. I look forward to hearing from you and thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards, James Frizzell Brayfrizzell (talk) 22:36, 21 April 2014 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Pride 2014

Hi Siawase. In case you are not aware, there is an upcoming campaign to improve coverage of LGBT-related topics on Wikipedia, culminating with an international edit-a-thon on June 21. See Wiki Loves Pride 2014 for more information. If you are interested, you might consider creating a page for a major city (or cities!) near you, with a list of LGBT-related articles that need to be created or improved. This would be a tremendous help to Wikipedia and coverage of LGBT culture and history. Thanks for your consideration, and please let me know if you have any questions! --Another Believer (Talk) 16:29, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Need help

I've started a discussion at here for this. Would love your help. Checking the Japanese sources for example. Timur9008 (talk) 10:12, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

@Timur9008 Oh, good timing, I just noticed that discussion yesterday and was considering looking into it. I'll go do that now. Siawase (talk) 15:37, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
Was wondering can you access reference 28 at Anpanman [1]? Yahoo Japan doesn't work in the EU anymore. Timur9008 (talk) 17:01, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
Yahoo Japan stuff can be found or cached at archive sites, here's that article on archive.org and archive.today. The number used in the Wikipedia article looks accurate to that source, but I'm a bit concerned that the sentence ends with "という" ("toiu"). My Japanese isn't good enough to be sure about the nuance, but Google translates it as "it is said" so it may not be something solid and fact checked. Siawase (talk) 17:26, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
Thanks! So its fair to remove the retail section then? Wish there was there was an English source. Timur9008 (talk) 17:42, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
If you have vetted the rest of the sources it seems fair to remove. The part about Anpanman overtaking Hello Kitty, sourced to New York Times can be kept in a general reception section though. And still being number 1 in 2019 as well. It's on sourced to the Charabiz website itself, and can be plainly read at the link, no access to their offline publications required, so it should be fine. I'll just move that sentence up right now so you can see what I mean. diff Siawase (talk) 18:02, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
Thanks! My concern was mainly reference 28. Timur9008 (talk) 17:08, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Do you know know who is fluent Japanese who might help clean the highest grossing media franchise page?(stuff before the November 25, 2022 revision) Timur9008 (talk) 11:56, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
@Timur9008 I don't know of anyone off the top of my head, but you could try posting a notice at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anime and manga and see if someone there might be interested. Siawase (talk) 20:18, 4 December 2022 (UTC)
Thanks! Timur9008 (talk) 20:20, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

Dragon Ball merch sales conflicting information

There are 4 different articles conficting with earch other. What should we do here? [2], [3],[4],[5]

The WSJ article states " "Dragon Ball Z" products have generated more than $3 billion in world-wide sales since the show was launched in Japan in 1986" [6] Timur9008 (talk) 20:32, 10 December 2022 (UTC)

I would ignore the WP:SELFPUB marketing PDF from Funimation, and then the rest of the WP:INDEPENDENT newspaper sources make sense, and show an increase in revenue over the years. BTW, WSJ (and some others, like Forbes) can also be accessed by archiving them on archive.today ie [7] Siawase (talk) 16:23, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
My main concern was The Indianapolis Star article which states that "Dragon Ball Z did $2.95 billion in merch sales in 1996 alone". That seems unlikely. Timur9008 (talk) 16:35, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
It's possible it's accurate if it had an extreme sales boom in that year and then just a trickle. But either way the other two are clear they're talking about total revenue so I would go with the most recent of those. Siawase (talk) 16:52, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
