Even when you look at the page "List of sovereign states and dependent territories in South America" you can clearly see there are 13 sovereign states, not 12. A basic mistake. I don't know why someone wrote "Do not change this number to 13 without discussing at the talk page"... Anyway, I posted it, now changing it, if you have any problem, please discuss here. Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:South America - Blue Marble orthographic.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on September 28, 2011. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2011-09-28. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :) Thanks! howcheng {chat} 19:59, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

South America satellite image
A composite relief satellite image of South America, the fourth-largest continent. South America occupies the southern portion of the landmass in the Western Hemisphere. The continent is generally delimited on the northwest by the Darién watershed along the ColombiaPanama border. Almost all of mainland South America sits on the South American Plate, as do nearby outlying islands.Photo: Blue Marble by Reto Stockli, NASA/GSFC

Economy - French Guiana/Falklands

Please discuss here the inclusion or removal of the Malvinas and French Guyana from the table of national economies; I wouldn't want to request a block of the article. I agree with Juniorpetjua, those are not countries, and should be left out. Cambalachero (talk) 14:56, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've posted a note at the Brazil wikiproject asking for assistance. I think that they should be included, as they make up part of the economy of South America. CMD (talk) 17:01, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
They are clearly part of the economy of South America and I'm not easy with the idea of wiping them from the article. At the one end it could be seen as POV with the implication they are A) not considered part of South American and B) substantiating other national claims to be part of other territories. It could also be perceived as fairly naked racism as they aren't "hispanic". It would also remove significant information as notably the economy of French Guiana exceeds that of Guyanna and Suriname. CMD makes a good point, they do make up part of the economy of South America and their omission is not really justifiable. Change "country" to "territory" if it bothers you that much and the problem is solved. Wee Curry Monster talk 09:19, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Note the above is a generic comment about how it can be perceived rather than any direct accusation against any individual and I am NOT directing this at anyone in particular. Wee Curry Monster talk 08:35, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No map?

Why, oh why, does an encyclopedia article about South Amercia not include a real map or two of South America? Rclocher3 (talk) 04:26, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hatnote

To state the abundantly obvious, this article should have a hatnote to southern United States. Southern America redirects here, and this is not at all an implausible destination for people who are unfamiliar with the geography of the Americas. Imagine explaining the difference between "South America" and the "American South" to someone who speaks English as a second language. I find User:Dentren's edit summary both disingenuous and inaccurate... if someone would like me to dig up examples of the countless hatnotes referring people to things most of us have never even heard of, I'll gladly oblige. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 04:10, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
