Greg Lawrance

Gregory Connell Lawrance is an American media and fashion entrepreneur and investor. Lawrance was known as an early pioneer in the athleisure apparel market, having co-founded NUMBER Lab in 2005.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Early life & education

Lawrance was born on November 7 in Boston, Massachusetts. He attended the University of Rochester[7][8] where he graduated with a B.A. in Political Science.[7][8][9]  Other coursework included study through the University's Film and Media Studies Program,[7][8] graduate work in entrepreneurship at Rochester’s Simon School of Business[7][8][9] and piano instruction through Rochester's inter-departmental classical program at its top-ranked Eastman School of Music.[7][8][10] Lawrance crewed for the University’s sailing team, with which he competed in the annual U.S. Naval Academy’s McMillan Cup Regatta[7][8]—the oldest national collegiate sailing regatta in the U.S.[7][11]

"Athleisure" Pioneer

NUMBER Lab

In 2007, Lawrance co-founded (with CFDA member Luis Fernandez[12]) premium menswear brand —NUMBER Lab. [1][2][3][4][5][6] Originally launched in 2005 under the brand name "429",[13][14] only RLX, Zegna Sport and Prada Sport existed in the "athleisure" apparel market—arguably earning Lawrance and Fernandez a place as early pioneers in the athleisure sector.

What started-out as a premium men's athleisure t-shirt brand evolved into a high-end, sport-inspired athleisure fashion brand.[7][13] NUMBER Lab was carried by top major and boutique retailers, including: Nordstrom;[7][15] Bloomingdale's;[6][7][14][16] Odin;[14] Saks Fifth Avenue;[6][7][17] Fred Segal;[7] Ron Herman;[7][18] Equinox Fitness Clubs;[7][14][19] Scoop;[18] Louis of Boston;[18] Gilt Group;[20] United Arrows[7] (Japan); TNT (Canada);[7] and Gotstyle (Canada).[7] The brand garnered praise from top fashion editors and key industry insiders, and was regularly featured in esteemed publications such as: GQ;[7][21] Esquire;[7][22] The New York Times;[23] Hypebeast;[7][24] Men's Health;[7][25][26] Vogue;[7][27] New York Magazine;[7][28] The Wall Street Journal;[7][29] Paper Magazine;[7][30] Forbes;[31] Style.com;[7][32] WWD;[33] and Racked.com.[34] NUMBER Lab was featured on athletes and celebrities including Neil Patrick Harris,[7][35] Josh Duhamel,[7][36] Evan Longoria,[7][37] Harrison Ford,[7] Chris Pine[7][38] and Matt Bohmer.[7][39] In 2012, Annie Leibowitz photographed NUMBER Lab designs on actor Jonathan Groff for a two-page feature in the July issue of Vanity Fair.[7][40]

NUMBER Lab hosted high-profile presentations and runway shows during Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week.[7] The events were held at A-list venues in New York City including Milk Studios[7][41][42] and The Standard Hotel.[7][30][43] NUMBER Lab also secured sponsorships with major corporate partners like Gillette,[7][41][44][45] W Hotels[7][46] and M·A·C Cosmetics to co-finance its runway shows.[41] In 2011, NUMBER Lab was invited to show at Aspen Fashion Week.[7][47][48] The same year, the company successfully opened and operated a one-year pop-up store in Manhattan's north Chelsea neighborhood.[7][49][50] In 2012, E! Entertainment Network covered the company's Fall-Winter 2012 runway show at Milk Studios[7][51] and later that spring, NUMBER Lab was accepted into the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Fashion Incubator Program[7][5][52]—in company with fellow brands/designers CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner Johnathan Simikhai, Timo Weilland, Burkman Bros and Project Runway's Daniel Vosovic[7][53] (other notable program alumni include Prabal Gurung, Bibhu Mohapatra and Waris Ahluwalia-House of Waris).[54]

READY GO Licensing

Lawrance co-founded READY GO Licensing[7][55]—a full-service custom merchandise design, e-commerce and marketing agency serving social media's most-popular and fastest-growing influencers.[7][55] Ready Go's clients represent over half a billion views (660 million)[55] and collectively reach an audience of nearly 10 million fans.[55][56][57][58] Some of the company's licenses include:[55]
