== Amandla's heritage ==

Amandla is not Jewish. This was erroneously added due to a single mistaken source - The Root in 2012. She's been interviewed and profiled numerous times and has never claimed to be Jewish because she is in fact not Jewish. Stenberg is a Swedish name. Her father is Danish, with a historically Swedish name. [[User:Zora Baldwin|Zora Baldwin]] ([[User talk:Zora Baldwin|talk]]) 00:51, 27 June 2018 (UTC)

Pronouns

Anyone have a source for Stenberg's pronouns? EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 02:22, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@EvergreenFir: http://amandla.tumblr.com/post/143141720588/what-are-your-preferred-pronouns-this-is-important Wocea (talk) 02:31, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As stated here: http://amandla.tumblr.com/post/143143078983/hey-all-yall-changing-my-pronouns-on-my-wiki please don't change the pronouns on this page unless they specify otherwise. Wocea (talk) 02:35, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. She/her for now. Thanks for the link. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 02:41, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Wocea: Any idea if Stenberg wants the non-binary identity kept off wikipedia? It's covered by enough sources to include, but could reasonably be excluded given that it's not super widely sourced. Given that they had a preference for pronouns, thought I'd ask. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 02:56, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@EvergreenFir: Honestly, I have no idea, I'd imagine if they didn't say anything about it previously then it's fine, I don't see anything about it on their blog. Wocea (talk) 03:13, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Wocea: Okay thanks! EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 03:20, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@EvergreenFir: Yeah it's fine the way it is: http://amandla.tumblr.com/post/143154836283/hey-hey-are-you-cool-with-your-wiki-citing-that Wocea (talk) 16:22, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Wocea: Awesome. Thanks! EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 18:03, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sternberg has recently said they prefer they/them pronouns. I edited the article to reflect this. http://www.seventeen.com/celebrity/news/a39858/amandla-stenberg-reveals-the-pronouns-shed-rather-be-called-than-she/≤≥×÷ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.246.224.38 (talk) 02:33, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This doesn't seem anything new? It still seems to end with "please keep it she/her up there for now" with the idea of "hoping it would stay within the tumblr realm for now." It's a bit of an odd situation compared to the more standard pronoun changes we've seen in the past. Let's just wait it out and see what happens: there is no deadline and Stenberg clearly doesn't mind the feminine pronoun-usage here. ~Mable (chat) 06:34, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Also there seems to be a misconception that non-binary people need to use they/them, which is incorrect. We can use many/any pronouns if we choose. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 17:29, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Same here ~Mable (chat) 19:13, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Nyuszika7H: Regarding your edit summary, if Stenberg did want to use they/them pronouns exclusively, I don't think that'd be a problem. Singular they and gender neutral referents like Mx. are not limited to Tumblr. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 03:07, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@EvergreenFir: I know, you're right, I was just annoyed at that moment, in fact I also use singular they when referring to people with unknown gender (haven't really interacted much with non-binary people). nyuszika7h (talk) 08:46, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Stenberg has actually stated that she prefers that the pronouns not be changed in her Wikipedia article. ("hey @ all y'all changing my pronouns on my wiki page - that’s awesome but I also haven’t talked to my publicist or family about it yet. I was kind of hoping it would stay within the tumblr realm for now as it will probably throw off potential employers and producers who want to hire me for movies - they often look at wiki pages. please keep it she/her up there for now. thanks") See here and here. Between this and MOS:IDENTITY ("When there is a discrepancy between the term most commonly used by reliable sources for a person or group and the term that person or group uses for themselves, use the term that is most commonly used by reliable sources ..."), there should be little left to discuss. General Ization Talk 00:57, 10 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's what I said just a few lines above. We're constantly dealing with people changing her pronouns on here incorrectly, though. Quite ill-spirited... ~Mable (chat) 13:06, 10 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The previous discussion about pronouns was in 2016. It seems sources are now regularly using they/them, and often mentioning explicitly that Stenberg prefers they/them pronouns.

From 2017, explicitly stating the preference for they/them: [1]

For Amandla, specifically, that means eschewing the use of female pronouns for the gender neutral they/them.

From 2017, using they/them: [2]

Amandla Stenberg's Explanation For Not Using Female Pronouns Is Just The Latest Example Of How Inspiring They Are

From 2017, using they/them: [3]

They’re only 18 years old, but Amandla Stenberg has been using their voice to create change since they won over fans as Rue in The Hunger Games.

From 2018, explicitly stating the preference for they/them: [4]

The 19-year-old, who made their name in The Hunger Games series and uses gender-neutral they/them pronouns, has previously come out as queer and – in 2016 – as bisexual.

From 2018, using they/them: [5]

In the past Stenberg has identified as queer, bisexual, pansexual and gender fluid, but in this new interview they opened up about identifying as gay for the first time.

Think we can change the pronouns to they/them now? --ChiveFungi (talk) 17:44, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good. Very thorough. Couldn't be clearer I'd say. ~Mable (chat) 13:01, 18 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not convinced, but I'm not totally opposed, either. The quotation from the interview that forms the basis of the first three links you provided (I'm comfortable with using the pronouns 'they' or 'them' alongside 'she' and 'her' just because that's a conversation that's important to me.) does not indicate a preference, which makes me think that Stenberg's thinking may have changed since the 2016 tumblr post (They/them it is.). However, all five of those sources do use they/them when referring to Stenberg, which does seem to render the "for now" part of the second 2016 tumblr post (please keep it she/her up there for now.) no longer applicable. -- irn (talk) 17:37, 18 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to Personal Life section

I agree with Drmies about the Kylie Jenner feud being removed. Lacks lasting notability (WP:NOTNEWS). I'd like to see the charity work stuff added back, but feel it needs better sources lest it be too promotional. I tried to get better sources in addition to self-published ones regarding her identity. Will keep looking to add to it. Did find something about a comic she was making. Ever so long. We'd have to split it up by month to conform to page length guidelines! EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 03:05, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Word Amandla means strengthor power in three recognized languages in South Africa those being isiZulu, IsiXhosa and iSiswati. 196.24.112.131 (talk) 15:34, 5 August 2017 (UTC) 196.24.112.131 (talk) 15:34, 5 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: as you have not cited reliable sources to back up your request, without which no information should be added to, or changed in, any article. - Arjayay (talk) 16:02, 5 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

College

Hello, I read that Amandla announced in 2016 that she would attend NYU Film School this year. I haven't found any sources confirming that she is currently attending the college, so I just added the announcement itself. Let me know if you see any issues with this. Thanks, Zoeisabel19 (talk) 14:43, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
