hi. this: '...he broke from the political left after what he called the "tepid reaction" of the Western left to the Satanic Verses controversy, followed by the left's embrace of Bill Clinton...' would read better as: '...he broke from the political left after what he called ITS "tepid reaction" to the Satanic Verses controversy, followed by ITS embrace of Bill Clinton...'. in the current wording, the left is named too many times; the repetition is both redundant and awkward. for what it's worth. hope this helps. Former good article nomineeChristopher Hitchens was a Social sciences and society good articles nominee, but did not meet the good article criteria at the time. There may be suggestions below for improving the article. Once these issues have been addressed, the article can be renominated. Editors may also seek a reassessment of the decision if they believe there was a mistake.

Great book review of "Mortality"

  • Christopher Buckley (August 30, 2012). "Staying Power:Mortality, by Christopher Hitchens". New York Times. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Javaweb (talkcontribs) 14:24, 31 August 2012‎ (UTC)[reply]

Smoking

I believe that Hitchens was an extremely heavy smoker, and that this was probably a main cause of his terminal ill health. If this can be confirmed I think it would improve the article to record it. Seadowns (talk) 12:08, 25 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Social democrat?

The article's lead says he self-identified as a social democrat but is never mentioned again. I looked online and could not find a single source calling him one. There's is also no mention of his supposed support for social democracy in the Political views of Christopher Hitchens article.ApolloCarmb (talk) 13:48, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
