MusikBot Help

Is it possible to get MusikBot help at Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Redirect whitelist? Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 03:38, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Barkeep49: It would be a bit of work to adapt to that page, and not within the PERM ecosystem. If you just need archiving, I recommend ClueBot III. I doubt you'll regularly get that many requests after the initial flood, so something like this might be suitable:
{{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveThis
|age=1000000 <!-- really big number to prevent archiving before request was closed -->
|archiveprefix=Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Redirect whitelist/Archive
|format=Y %%i
|maxarchsize=100000
|archivenow=<nowiki>{{Done}},{{done}},{{Not done}},{{not done}}</nowiki>
}}
MusikAnimal talk 04:24, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. I had thought about doing a traditional archive and then stepped back because of the interplay with done and backlog that your bot gives but will again explore. Thanks and best, Barkeep49 (talk) 15:44, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers

Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry

This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.

No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. Best wishes for your 2020 as well MA. MarnetteD|Talk 20:58, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you MarnetteD, and same to you! :) MusikAnimal talk 05:33, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

More MoreMenu thanks

Hi, I just wanted to thank you again for getting MoreMenu to work on IE for me. Also, thanks for all the effort you put in to update the gadget. I really like that it's customizable and I was especially glad to see how Watch and Unwatch work; as you probably know, on the old dropdown menus, these had for a lonnnng time turned into annoying two-step processes. Glad you're enjoying it! Thank you :) MusikAnimal talk 16:58, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

MusikBot II GeonoticeSync

Hi MusikAnimal. The GeonoticeSync task appears to not be syncing since December 9–13. — JJMC89(T·C) 07:46, 20 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@JJMC89: Thanks for letting me know! It looks like the cron jobs got stuck when there was Toolforge maintenance on the 12th. I killed them and it just started back up successfully, so we should be good now :) Best, MusikAnimal talk 17:04, 20 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Review newsletter December 2019

Reviewer of the Year

This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.

Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.

Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.

Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

Redirect autopatrol

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.

Source Guide Discussion

Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.

This month's refresher course

While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

A message from Kipala

Hi I am curious about some stats. I check siteviews for swwiki , https://tools.wmflabs.org/siteviews/?platform=all-access&source=pageviews&agent=user&range=latest-20&sites=sw.wikipedia.org

I find some days where views top 100,000. I am curious to see what made this high number. I check several dates, eg 15/02/2019 here> https://tools.wmflabs.org/topviews/?project=sw.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&date=2019-02-15&excludes=.

This day looks in topviews absolutely average, no articles drawing lots of views. Where does the extraordinary pageview total come from? Appreciate help to understand. Kipala (talk) 19:03, 21 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Kipala: See https://tools.wmflabs.org/siteviews/faq/#anomaly. It looks like the spike is only for desktop and not mobile. Depending on what is normal for your wiki, this might suggest bot-inflated pageviews (I suppose on random articles, rather than just one). Right now this is an unfortunately common issue, but as I understand it the Analytics team is close to figuring out a long-term solution. Hope this helps, MusikAnimal talk 19:41, 21 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
