Petrogylph spelling

Is 'petrogylph' spelled right? google suggests 'Petroglyph' instead which brings up a game company as the first hit. I'm not realy sure, that's why this is on the talk page.

Article improvement

After a marathon of two days, I'm done. It could probably use copyediting and some help from fresh eyes, as my strategic distance is compromised from drafting it. I used Frank's contact form to ask for a pic we can use and also get his input on what two song samples we should upload. EBM, not Industrial

I want to argue that Frank Klepacki's style from C&C: Tiberian Dawn to Tiberian Sun were more akin to Electronic Body Music than Industrial. It is a common misperception to lump hard, aggressive sounding beat driven electronic music with the industrial label, which infact bears its roots from conceptual noise experiments of the late 70s and early 80s. I cannot say whether Frank Klepacki was influenced by industrial music, but I can say the soundtrack work he did are primarily electronic body music works. Polish name

The surname of this person is of Polish origin. Perhaps this should be mentioned in this article as well as info when his ancestors from his father's side arived in the US. See also List of Polish surnames Mieciu K 11:33, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

We want war, wake up!

Klepacki states in the commentary on the Red Alert soundtrack that he thought that the sound effect he found for 'Hell March' sounded like "We want war, wake up!" and this is appropriate for the game, but I feel it is important to point out that it is actually a German voice saying "Die waffen - legt an!" Notable?

Is it worth noting somewhere that a few of Frank's songs contain sound clips from movies, for example: No Mercy and We Will Stop Them Now use clips of the bad guy from Bill_&_Ted's_Bogus_Journey and The track Brainfreeze uses a clip of the Brain from The_Brain_from_Planet_Arous? --Ragzouken 23:02, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

According to the president of Petroglyph Studios, Mike Legg, Frank Klepacki actually was contacted by EA to work with them on Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, but he turned it down because he was to busy with Petroglyph's projects. Why does some largely insignificant 'computer game composer' have a full article?

A waste of editorial talent? Who's to say that the editors involved in this article are at all interested in writing about other topics? Wikipedia is volunteer-based, so thus people are free to develop any article as much as they like. First off, I would HIGHLY advise a registered contibutor to Wikipedia not to call other people nerds- the hypocrisy is blatant. Secondly, the man is famous throughout the videogaming community (however small you may think it is) for his legendary music. Hell March is a very popular track. Klepacki is "largely insignificant" to the extent that the general public is largely ignorant of the video game music subculture. I think it's good that obscure subject material can make featured article status, because popular interests by definition don't need to be featured. In the infobox, it is stated that he has been active since 1980 (when he was 6 years old). What is it supposed to mean, to be active? If he composed his first works at that age, it should be mentioned in the article. Otherwise, the info doesn't make much sense. --Tone 08:07, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

I don't understand why people are so irritated...

With this being an FA on the main page. People are calling Frank a "loser" and that he "lacks notability." He scored the music for, arguably, the most famous games in the Command & Conquer series. Those games have gone on to sell extremely well, and Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert are considered classics. His music is pretty well known among gamers. Just because you may not know him, or he in person may not be significant to the workings of every day life, does not mean this article does not deserve to be on the main page.

I remember the time when Mandy Moore was the featured article, and a couple users expressed their disgust at such. Is she well known? Yes. Is she significant to the workings of the world? That is a matter of debate. Her article is well written; that's it. Wikipedia is not supposed to have an elitist attitude in determining how worthy an FA is to put on the Mian Page.

What about film composers and such? What about other famous video game music composers? People like Nobuo Uematsu, Hans Zimmer, and John Williams may not be known to all people, but they are still very notable in their field. That is what Frank is like. He is a well known figure in video game music and such. He gets 130,000 hits on google. I think that should be sufficient. TheKillerAngel 19:03, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

It's partially the VG / obscure topic effect. There's usually disgust when a video game article or something else very esoteric and modern gets on the main page, and I imagine that it'd be easy to view some "lowly" video game composer working in Las Vegas as encyclopedically unimportant. But the joke's on them. If I had one worry about this article, it's that not much "negative" content exists; there haven't been any scandals or real negative criticism about Klepacki. I remember someone complaining at the Baby Gender Mentor article that "every other featured article was some video game" or other commercial product. Because it is well referenced; because it has compelling prose; because it is comprehensive; because it is supported by relevant, mostly free images; because topics do not a featured article make. I put it together, and I've never met Frank or even been in the same city as him in my entire life. He is a notable video game composer. Hell March drill instructor sample

I've listened to the sample with a very fine headset and I am convinced the officer, which is obviously a Staffelführer (approximative squad leader) yells "Die Staffel - rechts um!". Blade Runner and Red Alert

The atmospheric theme in the main menu of Red Alert features a sample which is the same of the refrain of Blade Runner Theme by Vangelis. "Die waffen, legt an" - the baseless rumor stops here.

From hearing the sample on the episode of Boardwalk Empire aired today (S02E08, near the end of the scene at the military base), I googled around and found this, which is a very clear version of the sample, plus some extra: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJlZWmyNAYY . If you listen to the shouting, it most definitely does not sound like "die waffen, legt an" if you have any knowledge of German. Also, the phrase at 0:18 sounds quite American. The proper Polish pronunciation would be 'kle-pats-key', but he uses the Americanized version. EstendorLin (talk) 08:46, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
