Yin Yang Yo! |
Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! is an American children's educational flash animated television series created by Bob Boyle.[1] The series was animated by Bardel Entertainment using both Toon Boom and Adobe Flash software,[2] and it was produced by Bolder Media and Starz Media in association with Film Roman. Bob Boyle, Susan Miller, Mark Warner, and Fred Seibert served as executive producers.
The show focuses on a yellow, rectangular gerbil-like creature named Wubbzy, who has various antics with his friends, Widget, a rabbit-like creature who loves to build; Walden, a bear-like creature who is a brainiac; and since the second season, Daizy, a puppy-like creature who loves flowers.
The series premiered on August 28, 2006 and concluded on February 21, 2010, totaling two seasons and 52 episodes each consisting of two segments.[3] Starz Media owns and distributes the series, and select episodes were aired on the Starz Kids & Family channel. In the United States, Nick Jr. acquired temporary broadcast rights to the series, and its rights expired in 2014. Since then, Starz Media has been the only worldwide distributor. Starz's now-defunct subsidiary, Anchor Bay Entertainment, released the series to DVD.
History
The first season premiered on August 28, 2006 and ended on June 20, 2008.
Boyle submitted his original concept as a book to Frederator Studios, the lead creative partner in Bolder Media. After more than 6000 children's book concepts were reviewed, his submission was selected for development into an animated series for preschoolers.
Starz Media owns the series. In most territories, the show is distributed by Starz. The Starz Kids & Family channel aired select episodes and exclusively premiered the special Wubbzy's Big Movie!. In the United States, Nickelodeon acquired temporary broadcast rights to the series' 52 normal-length episodes. It aired new episodes of the series from August 28, 2006, until 2010, with a hiatus in 2009.[clarification needed] It aired on weekday mornings during the Nick Jr. programming block. Reruns aired on the separate Nick Jr. network, named after the block, from 2009 until April 14, 2014,[4] when Nickelodeon's U.S. broadcast rights expired. All mentions of the show were removed from the Nick Jr. website as well. The last episode that aired in reruns was "Save the Wuzzly/All Bottled Up." The last airing on Nickelodeon was on December 20, 2010.[5]
The show has received an Emmy, a KidScreen Best TV Movie award (for Wubb Idol, starring Beyoncé),[6] and a Telly award.
A translated version of the series has been a popular addition to the "Cúla 4" children's programming lineup on the Irish language television channel TG4 since January 2011. The show is dubbed in 15 languages and airs in over 100 countries around the world.
