Would this site be notable for Wikipedia yet? [1] Sfan00 IMG (talk) 19:30, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Sfan00 IMG: No, absolutely not. :-) --Eloquence* 19:33, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the prompt response. Figured as much. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 19:37, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A very long shot, but did you hang onto the permission e-mail?

Not going to use the template I would normally here, as you are senior enough to be trusted without question on such things :)

Sfan00 IMG (talk) 19:48, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Sfan00 IMG: I'll look in my archives and let you know later today.--Eloquence*
@Sfan00 IMG: I was able to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to that photo being uploaded:
  1. The photographer posted a long comment about the facility here on en.wp including the comment that the photos are "available for the asking".
  2. I replied to that comment on-wiki (see above) and offered to upload the photos on his behalf.
  3. He emailed me a bunch of photos, and I picked one of them to upload. There was no licensing statement in the email.
I'm not sure if that would pass muster today, though I would argue that the result clearly reflects his intent. I've tried emailing him to be sure, but unfortunately the original address is no longer working, and a Google search suggests that he may have died years ago.--Eloquence* 22:55, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'd suggest leaving the above on the file description page, but thanks :) Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:56, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Done!--Eloquence* 23:23, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
Thank you for creating an excellent article about the Donald J. Trump Foundation. Somebody had to! MelanieN (talk) 22:34, 14 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Aww, thank you, MelanieN! Lots more being reported; glad you and others are improving the article & will take another look myself soon.--Eloquence* 23:05, 14 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. Lots of recent sources available; wish I could find some older, "pre-scandal" reporting for balance! but press coverage is what it is.
Do you mind if I nominate it for WP:DYK? --MelanieN (talk) 23:45, 14 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@MelanieN: Not at all! -- just a note that I won't be able to personally address any issues that come up in DYK review immediately.--Eloquence* 23:49, 14 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Usually they would come after me as nominator. Hopefully they won't bother you. --MelanieN (talk) 00:12, 15 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

FYI: It's been suggested at DYK that they hold off on it until after the November election. So don't hold your breath, it won't be on the main page for a couple of months but hopefully will get there eventually. Meanwhile, as new as this article is, it's getting hundreds of views a day. Clearly there was a need for it. --MelanieN (talk) 14:16, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:Irateloc.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

orphaned image, dated information

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:02, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ProcrastinatingReader: LOL, I know. And yet, in spite of its enduring popularity, I still think of Bitcoin as mainly a speculative asset.--Eloquence* 16:06, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. It's unsustainable as a currency, from transaction fees to energy consumption if not adoption (considering most popular fiat exchanges have either hard limits or strong KYC requirements; Coinbase now asks for more than my bank!) As you say, though, its in the interest of investors to maintain the facade. It does surprise me how accurate your thoughts from 2011 turned out; the only one that hasn't materialised yet is Satoshi cashing out (and the nail in the coffin). ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 16:37, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Jeez, it’s getting worse. NFTs? ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 03:02, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ProcrastinatingReader: Indeed. It's telling that corporate media can brim over with excitement about new ways to monetize art and culture, but still have not begun even remotely to grapple with the potential of free culture that Wikipedia itself demonstrates.--Eloquence* 23:12, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
