The University of Management and Technology (UMT) (Template:Lang-ur) is one of Pakistan's top private research universities located in Johar Town, Lahore, Pakistan. The University is chartered by the Government of Punjab and is recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC).

UMT is a project of the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Trust established in 1990 with over 30+ years of leadership.

The University holds over 19 institutional memberships, including Asia Pacific Quality Network (APQN), Asian Science Park Association (ASPA), ACBSP Global Business Accreditation, The Chemical Society of Pakistan, South Asia Triple Helix Association, AACSB Business Education Connected, AMDISA, FUIW, Global Business School Network, International Association of Universities, American Mathematical Society, Pakistan Mathematical Society, PILA, South African Mathematical Society and EFMD Global Network.[citation needed]

History

UMT is a project of the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Trust. ILM was established in 1990.

UMT is an independent, not-for-profit, private institution of higher learning – received her degree-granting charter first as the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in 2002 through an Act of the Assembly of Punjab. Later, on 16 June 2004, IMT became the University of Management and Technology through the passing of a similar Act by the Punjab Assembly.[citation needed]

The University offers 140+ bachelor, master and doctoral degree programs in a diverse range of disciplines such as commerce, accounting, business administration, banking and finance, business and IT, computer science, economics, education, electrical engineering, aviation, liberal arts, management, supply chain, textile engineering, industrial engineering, information systems, linguistics, artificial intelligence, media and communication, school management, social sciences, educational leadership management, law, English language teaching, dairy science and technology, food science and technology, English, horticultural sciences, security and strategic sciences, nutrition sciences, physiotherapy etc.

Awards and recognitions

University of Management and Technology has been nominated for THE Awards Asia 2020 for Workplace of the Year Award category, conferred by the prestigious Times Higher Education. UMT has been ranked 601-800th in THE Impact Rankings 2021 for performance in individual SDGs, including quality education, no poverty, good health and wellbeing and partnership for goals. The university also secured a spot in the top 550 HEI's in the region, as per the QS Asia University Rankings 2021 for its academic reputation, employer reputation and inbound exchange students. Furthermore, it secured the 620th Position in the UI Green Metric World University Ranking.

The School of Business and Economics at UMT has been declared “as an emerging key player in the field of business studies” by the American weekly magazine, Newsweek.

University campuses

The purpose-built 200+ Kanal main campus of the University is located in Johar Town, Lahore. It has an academic block, library and learning resource centre, classrooms, science and engineering laboratories, facilities for indoor/outdoor sports, cafeteria and Symposium Café (STD Building and Opposite Boys Gate). UMT Mosque offers provisions for daily prayers, as well as Friday sermons by renowned scholars and speakers. Also, another academic block is under construction on the premises of the main campus

The sub-campus of the University is located in Sialkot. UMT is the first private sector university to establish an HEC approved sub-campus in Sialkot, the city known for the manufacturing and export of items such as surgical and musical instruments, sports goods, leather goods and textile goods.

The sub-campus was formally opened in Sialkot on May 2, 2012. The campus is spread over 20 Kanals of land and is situated in Small Industrial Estate road which is the central part of Sialkot city. Sialkot sub-campus of the university has several multimedia classrooms, laboratories, computer labs, campus-wide WiFi internet facility, learning resources, offices and surveillance system. For extracurricular activities, a dedicated 56 Kanals of land has been acquired near Daska.

Hostels

UMT has two separate hostels for male and female students. Students are accommodated on a ‘first come first served basis.’ The hostels offer independent messing and recreation areas. A pick and drop facility is provided to hostel residents. The university boys hostel is situated at Wahdat Road, Lahore, while the girl's hostel is in Wapda Town.

Scholarships and financial assistance

  • 5+ billion rupees worth of financial aid has been granted to deserving students.
  • Merit Scholarships are granted to the participants seeking admission in bachelor's degree programs at the time of admission on submission of proof of marks/grades obtained in the Intermediate/A-Level examination.
