Is there a reason that I needed to be notified that you nominated someone's talk page for speedy deletion? GregJackP Boomer! 14:39, 28 July 2012 (UTC) Hello, I think https://www.facebook.com/pages/Royalist-Party-of-America/188401798018820 should be added to External links for Royalist, Monarchism, United Empire Loyalists and American Revolution because it's a real political party that is connected to all 4 of these topics. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.239.104.163 (talk) 10:32, 1 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Isles of Wonder (alt.).jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Isles of Wonder (alt.).jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:46, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Articles for creation

[edit]
Isles of Wonder, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.

You are more than welcome to continue making quality contributions to Wikipedia. Note that because you are a logged-in user, you can create articles yourself, and don't have to post a request. However, you are more than welcome to continue submitting work to Articles for Creation.

Thank you for helping improve Wikipedia!

Calmer Waters 06:13, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I also added a fair use rationale to File:Isles of Wonder.jpg so it wouldn't be deleted, which is needed on all copyrighted images used here. If you could, can you add the http of where the image was used from to the source section of the template? Thanks and take care. Kindly Calmer Waters 06:25, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for creating the article. The image I used is from umusic.com.uk. There is also an alternate cover found here, but I'm not sure how to put it in the article.
It all set. Hope you don't mind, but I put the Umusic address you gave me into the source field. It gets a little easier with each one :) Calmer Waters 23:22, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, that's a lot of hits! Glad to make a helpful contribution to the Wiki community. Also, where can I find the view count of articles? --Vincent Liu (something to say?) 03:22, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It is at the top the the page when viewing the history of an article, next to the external tools. You can also see how many people have the article on their watchlist, as long as it is at least 30, at the number of watchers link. Unfortunately the counter has started over after the recent page move. here was the views [1] before redirect. Calmer Waters 03:48, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! I really hate spam pages. --Vincent Liu (something to say?) 05:42, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Are you OK?

[edit]

I have no idea why you are nominating user-talk pages for speedy deletion, but I certainly don't need to be notified about it.  -- WikHead (talk) 07:12, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm nominating them for spam with Twinkle. It automatically notifies the page creator. You can disregard them if you want, since you're probably not the one spamming the pages.--Vincent Liu (something to say?) 07:16, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's a user talk page. If the top edit offends you, revert it, and move on. You're speedy nomination will most certainly be declined, so you're probably better off returning and correcting your mistake.  -- WikHead (talk) 07:20, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So you mean it's better to blank a user talk page than to speedy delete it? Even pages like this? --Vincent Liu (something to say?) 07:22, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What would be so wrong with restoring the page to my last version? This could easily have been achieved using the undo link next to the top edit.  -- WikHead (talk) 07:25, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If that's what the Wikipedia community prefers, then I'll follow it. Thank you for telling me. I always thought it's normal to delete spam user talk pages created by the user since admins always delete the pages on request. --Vincent Liu (something to say?) 07:29, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's not about what the community prefers. We just don't speedy delete user-talk pages. Simply undo the IPs edit… and you will quickly see a perfectly good version of that talk page, just as I left it.  -- WikHead (talk) 07:33, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(the indention is getting crazy) What if a user creates a user talk page just for spamming? Should I speedy delete it per G11 or just blank it? --Vincent Liu (something to say?) 07:36, 1 August 2012 (UTC) Here's a good example: User talk:Assaminteriors --Vincent Liu (something to say?) 07:38, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Spam should always be removed. If there's nothing at all in the page history but spam, use your own discretion. If the spam was added by the owner of the talk-page, it could just as easily be overwritten with a user-warning message.  -- WikHead (talk) 07:48, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the tips! --Vincent Liu (something to say?) 07:49, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And I just realized the page I nominated have non-spammed versions. I'll be more careful next time. --Vincent Liu (something to say?) 07:54, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome, and pardon me for seeming somewhat "short" with you. I did however find your speedy deletion spam notification a bit offensive. Stay well, and happy editing. Regards,  -- WikHead (talk) 07:56, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

You can visit Wikipedia:Your first article for some tips. Make sure the article has a neutral point of view, does not feel like an advertisement, and have good sources. Unfortunately, I'm unable to retrieve the deleted page, but you can ask an admin for that. Try recreating the article in your user sandbox. Suggestion of block evasion

[edit]

If an editor is blocked, it means that they are not allowed to edit, not that they are free to evade the block by using another account or by editing without logging in. Doing so is sockpuppetry, and is itself a blockable offence. I don't know whether in making this edit you were under the impression that what you said was acceptable under Wikipedia policies, or whether you were intentionally encouraging a user to evade policy. However, please make sure that you don't encourage anyone to evade a block in future. JamesBWatson (talk) 09:14, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Zogu Page

[edit]

Hi Vincent,

I am writing this in your request to delete what i wrote. I would like to ask on what grounds exactly did this qualify as advertising?

I merely wrote about how the company started, where it started and who started it. Never, did i intentionally make any steps to advertise nor promote anything. In addition the small paragraph I wrote was not even finished I merely saved it so I could come back to it later (Not to be published). I feel as though I am being unfairly treated- I am trying hard to get this page done.

Thank you for your time.

Jason West Jones & Roger W Haworth Editor Bullying Issue

[edit]

Thank you so much for showing concern. When I first went to this guys talk page. It looked like he was a full time deletion expert. Just mounds of people asking him, why? And why did you not talk to me about it first? This sort of person is the number one reason I am afraid to make edits. He attacked me for lack of editing, or at least threaten to delete my user page. Gave me a reason, then could not defend said reason. As if he was shocked I had enough sense to ask questions. Maybe they don't get that in his country. Who knows? But what we have here is a rather nasty oxymoron. Someone who is the main reason people fear editing, going around making threats to people who are already paranoid. Jason West Jones (talk) 23:35, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It might help if you didn't use offensive language in the dispute resolution. :) --Vincent Liu (something to say?) 00:01, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What you mean when I brought up the word "s**t"? That was a retort to what the editor above me said. He said a couple of course words. I guess it was a trap. And I was not using it as an insult. I use it in a constructive sentence. But I guess it was creative on their part to get me to drop my guard. I should have seen that coming. Then again, I never saw this as a battle, or something to "win" as they put it. I have never heard of anyone winning on Wikipedia. It just another form of mob rules, prison psychology. The big dog has to threaten the little dogs. And I'm a little dog. A + for motivation, right? Not... Jason West Jones (talk) 00:24, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I have username-blocked them, but promotional edits like that are not vandalism unless repeated after enough warnings, so the place to report something like that is WP:UAA, not WP:AIV. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 12:24, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I got it. Thank you! --Vincent Liu (something to say?) 12:27, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, if a user page is tagged as spam, the deleting admin will probably pick up that it's a company username, but reporting to UAA does no harm. A busy morning, I have dealt with a dozen spammers already. We really should do more to tell people at sign-on time what Wikipedia is not for. 12:38, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
I also hope users have more common sense. Most people won't read the promotional user pages anyway. --Vincent Liu (something to say?) 12:40, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Arthur Collins (theatre manager)

[edit]

Hi Vincent,

Arthur Collins was an Englishman who was manager of an English theatre. May I suggest it would be more appropriate to retain the correct English spelling of the word "theatre" in this case? I don't know how (or why) you have altered it to the American spelling, but I am hoping you will change it back.

Regards,

Reuben — Preceding unsigned comment added by ReubenFrankau (talkcontribs) 08:10, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I was using Wikipedia's Manual of Style, but you can consider leaving a message on the article's talk page. And remember to sign talk page messages with four tildes (~~~~). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vincent Liu (talkcontribs)
Reuben is correct here - please refer to WP:ENGVAR, which says that we should use the English variation most relevant to the subject of the article. Even if no variation applied to the subject, however, we would still use the variation first used in the article - in this case "English" English. The entry you linked to is irrelevant in this case, because it refers to usage within American English, not between different varieties of English. – Philosopher Let us reason together. 18:25, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I prefer American English myself, but have to defer to our policies here. – Philosopher Let us reason together. 18:25, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the trouble. --Vincent Liu (something to say?) 09:37, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's no problem - for me at least. It's nice to see people (like both of you) who are interested in helping Wikipedia run properly! – Philosopher Let us reason together. 12:50, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Note that at the the musical theatre project, we agreed long ago to always use "theatre" except for buildings that are called "X Theater", because "theatre" is sometimes used in American English, while "theater" is virtually never used in Brit. English. Just a thought. -- Ssilvers (talk) 05:44, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Really? That would make sense for articles that don't have a strong national tie, but I have to say that that would definitely violate WP:ENGVAR for articles with a strong national tie. If it is an established "thing", though, might I suggest that you discuss at ENGVAR's talk page whether to add it to that page? I can appreciate variations from the MoS - but they really should be documented somewhere for the rest of us. – Philosopher Let us reason together. 22:04, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
"Theatre" is acceptable in American English, and is preferred by U.S. theatre professionals. People who work in the theatre industry in America usually use the spelling "theatre", and as you can see in this link, we even usually name our theatres with this spelling: Broadway theatre. Note that I am not watching your talk page. All the best. -- Ssilvers (talk) 05:36, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That is somewhat bizarre, but I suppose I'll have to take your word for it. As an American non-theater-professional, however, I'd never heard that "theatre" was acceptable; that its spelling was used in names was something I chalked down to the same phenomenon that causes some stores to use "shoppe" instead of "shop". (And no, "shoppe" is not American English either.) – Philosopher Let us reason together. 13:57, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Greetings Recent Changes Patrollers!

This is a one-time-only message to inform you about technical proposals related to Recent Changes Patrol in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:

  1. Adjust number of entries and days at Last unpatrolled
  2. Editor-focused central editing dashboard
  3. "Hide trusted users" checkbox option on watchlists and related/recent changes (RC) pages
  4. Real-Time Recent Changes App for Android
  5. Shortcut for patrollers to last changes list

Further, there are more than 20 proposals related to Watchlists in general that you may be interested in reviewing. (and over 260 proposals in all, across many aspects of wikis)

Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.

Note: You received this message because you have transcluded {{User wikipedia/RC Patrol}} (user box) on your user page. Since this message is "one-time-only" there is no opt out for future mailings.
