Modussiccandi (talk) 14:55, 21 March 2023 (UTC)- William Linton and William C. Linton should link to Chicago Whip. I don't see "militant" in the cited source. Far from it the content and sources appear to indicate the paper advocated for civil rights in the face of brutal attacks and oppression. Joseph Dandridge Bibb should also link there at least for a start. Apparently he is in Henry Louis Gates and Higgenbotham's National Biography

Twinkle1990 (talk) 13:03, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi FloridaArmy, I don't think this will be deleted as he clearly meets NPROF but in addition to your updates, I also found his obituary, which supports he was born in Halifax, VA so I removed the attribution to the Cyclopedia. Note the obit also supports he graduated from Harvard. I also added another source, Alabama Review, that has some in-depth coverage about him. S0091 (talk) 17:15, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
Does it also say for 16 13 years he was president of the Western Baptist Seminary on Tracy Street? Western Baptist Bible College (Missouri). I think I read he also studied at Brown andnthere was another school (University of Kansas Masters) he got a degree from. I think the Cyclopedia entry says so anyway. I added another source on the talk page that details his presidency and the challenges he faced with the board calling the shots. Doesn't seem like he or the other school's leaders were supported. Thanks for your inprovements!!! Good to see it expanded and the obit is particularly helpful. FloridaArmy (talk) 19:46, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, I was very glad to find the obit. I don't know about you but I dislike those question marks in a biography and obits are generally quite helpful in tying pieces together. I am not sure about 16 years, but yes it does appear he was president of Western Baptist Bible College (Missouri) after he left Lincoln. There are other Newspaper.com sources that support that I think but I was focused on finding the obit. Oh and do take a look at the Boston Globe source (#3) which has photo of him and may have other hints of other people that may not be covered in Wikipedia. S0091 (talk) 20:04, 7 March 2023 (UTC)

Two schools in Bangladesh refunded
Thank you for your interest in improving Haripur Dimukhi Girls High School and Mohanpur Government Girls High School. Is that based on some independent, reliable, secondary source(s) you are aware of, or is it more aspirational? My major focus on Wikipedia is improving Bangladesh-related articles, so I would be delighted if either of these topics could be shown to be notable. Before PRODing them, however, I performed a WP:BEFORE, in English and in Bengali, without finding anything but Wikipedia mirrors, indiscriminate government databases/listings, and a brief mention of one. Indeed, over the 3-7 years of the articles' existence, I've looked at them several times, trying without success to find sources that would establish notability. Without such sources, I feel obliged to nominate them for deletion from article space, although I would have no objection to their being moved elsewhere, for example to your user space, if you wish to work on them at your leisure. --Worldbruce (talk) 16:33, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for your efforts and commenr User:Worldbruce. Can they be merged somewhere? FloridaArmy (talk) 07:21, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
- I didn't see a good target for merge or redirection, but am open to suggestions. In Bangladesh, there are only 9 boards of education (the closest thing the country has to school districts), so each one is huge, covering about 10,000 schools, a number so high that a Wikipedia page listing basic information on each would be too large to load. If there were articles about the villages/towns where the schools are located, those would be good targets, but there are no such articles. Covering the schools in some intermediate level geographic article, say the upazila (sub-district) is conceivable. But singling out one high school would give that school undue weight, whereas indiscriminately listing all high schools at that level (a typical upazila has dozens) would give undue weight to the education section. I find it preferable at the upazila level to list only tertiary education institutions and notable high schools. The other consideration is that precious little of the information in the articles is actually verified by the sources, pretty much just the school's name, location, and either year of founding or year of nationalization. --Worldbruce (talk) 13:01, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
- user:Worldbruce should the two entries be moved to draftspace and we can create entries on the respective towns / villages? The number of girls school appears much lower than other types of schools. I would be happy to help merge the subjects into entries on the respective communities. - User:S0091 I believe that if interviews are conducted by independent reliable news organization and include information on the subject as well as the interview they do indeed count toward notability. Innthis case we have interviews published in the New York Times, Conde and Nast, and SFGate. FloridaArmy (talk) 09:07, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
- If the content of the article is mostly what the person says, then the source is considered primary and not independent, regardless of the publisher. Both NYT and SFGate are in a Q&A format so not useful and while the CondeNast piece is not in a Q&A format, most of the content is emanating from him. Although it does have some independent content but I would consider it weak for notability. Also, most were published around the same time, July and August of 2020, which indicates these are PR pieces to promote the launch of the show. Generally for TV shows, much like films, in-depth critical reviews are what is used to establish notability. S0091 (talk) 14:57, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
- User:S0091 I believe all three of the interviews include content that in not in Q&A form and are bylined.Wikipedia:Interviews#Notability states "An independent interviewer represents the "world at large" giving attention to the subject, and as such, interviews as a whole contribute to the basic concept of notability". The timing did indeed coincide with the launch of his show which makes sense. FloridaArmy (talk) 15:05, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
- Read the rest of that section as it does state Q&A are not helpful for notability and also note it is an essay rather than policy, like primary. This comes up time and again at AfD, and the consensus is if the source is mostly what the subject says, it does not contribute to notability (or at best weak). Of course, you are welcome to resubmit it to get another reviewers opinion or maybe ping another reviewer here. I certainly will not take offense. S0091 (talk) 15:28, 27 March 2023 (UTC)

CNMall41 (talk) 05:47, 28 March 2023 (UTC)Mississippi legislators
Hi, FA. I run Against All Odds, a website documenting Black legislators in Mississippi during and just after Reconstruction. I noticed that you created a bunch of Wiki articles about these men, often using my site as a source - thank you! I was wondering how you got involved adding them. Personal interest, some other way? A colleague and I are working on an article about using Wikidata and other methods to increase discoverability for the men on my site, and we'd love to include the story of your involvement through adding them on Wikipedia. Please email me (dbaldwin at library dot msstate dot edu) if you'd be willing to share! Thanks again for all the work you do here. DeeDee (talk) 15:56, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi DeeDee. It's a real pleasure to make your acquaintance. I'm a HUGE admirer or your work. FYI, I started Draft:DeeDee Baldwin.
- I enjoy history and correcting the often widespread misinformation that passes as history. Filling in the facts and features helps uncover and enlighten. Thanks for all your terrific work!!! Part of the to-do list I'm trying to collaborate on here is at Draft:Missing Pieces (forcibly moved to my userspace against my wishes, but the link works).
- I was curious about the white Republicans (also the Democrats who fought tooth and nail for "redemption") who served with the African Americans, and wondered if you think the scope of inclusion needs to be widened? I understand the focus where you have it, but I wonder if ultimately segregating the history leaves too much out and continues some of the Dunningesque misrepresentations. Anyway, so happy to be in touch with you please let me know if I can be of any help. User:KylieTastic and others have done the heavy lifting in expanding and filling out details on the details on these subjects. Incidentally, Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red might interest you. I will email you when I have some time. Have a great weekend. FloridaArmy (talk) 16:41, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
- I think User:SusunW, User:Megalibrarygirl, User:Star Mississippi, and User:PamD would be great contacts for you as well as possible interview subjects who are far more knowledgeable about the ins and outs of Wikipedia than I am. I hope you can get in touch with them or maybe they can say hello to you. I am happy to be among many wonderful editors and people doing so much wonderful work. FloridaArmy (talk) 14:19, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
- THanks @FloridaArmy for the ping and pleased to meet you @Edeainfj. Happy to talk with you and your team further. It's such important work to document their legacies. Star Mississippi 15:41, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi! I'm happy to talk to anyone as well. My focus is more on women, especially ones involved with suffrage and social justice work. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 18:11, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
- My real life is crazy hectic right now. I mainly love the puzzle of research and write about intersectional women activists, typically outside the US (I live in southern Mexico). I am not remotely technically oriented, unless it has to do with researching some obscure person or fact. "How to use Wikidata" is way outside my abilities. That said, I know a lot of people on here who have skills and might have connections that could help. SusunW (talk) 13:47, 28 March 2023 (UTC)

Drafts
Hi FA, i really enjoy looking at your draft articles, but at a real loss as to what do actually do with them. Something like Draft:Minnie Moore Willson has the potential to be a good article with a few pages of interesting content, but i can't write that. I could probably throw in an infobox, categories, with a few sentences of text, then move to mainspace. Do you want to keep working on them in draft space? AfC reviewers, any advice here: let them stew in draft space, resubmit to AfC, or just move them over to mainspace as a passable stub? @S9001 any advice? fiveby(zero) 14:09, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
- We do what we can User:Fiveby. I suggest working on what interests you and improving entries in ways you are able. Feel free to ask for help. The very nature of a Wiki is collaborative. Any editor (except me) can move a draft to mainspace. This one of course needs some work first but even a stub would be more than what we have now in articlespace. FloridaArmy (talk) 14:50, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
- If nobody minds me butting in to add tuppence; don't think there's enough there for that one as yet, but for sure add away. Hiding T 15:36, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
- Of course not, and i don't think i actually pinged S0091 in the first post. That's my conundrum here, i could get this one and others ready enough for mainspace where there would be categories and wikiprojects and readers might notice and take an interest. They just don't seem to be a good target for collaboration as is. And they are FA's drafts. fiveby(zero) 16:52, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
- I work in draftspace because I am forced to and because it's more amenable to collaboration than userspace. By all means please make any changes you think will improve that or any entry. I think it's well established that content in mainspace is far more likely to be improved and expanded than drafts. You're also welcome to start or work on any of the subjects linked at Draft:Missing Pieces. If there's anything I can do to make editing these drafts or starting new drafts on listed subjects more inviting please let me know. FloridaArmy (talk) 16:59, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
- They are not FA's drafts. Just like article space, drafts are open for anyone to edit. Above that, I can certainly attest FloridaArmy does not suffer from WP:OWN and is happy for anyone to work on anything they have started so no concern about stepping on toes. @Fiveby if you think you can get some of these good enough to be in mainspace, have at it! :) I did add some additional sources to Draft:Minnie Moore Willson which may be useful (or not). Also, a couple of benefits of tagging with "promising draft" is they are added to Category:Promising draft articles so others may see them (I have seen abandoned drafts improved by others and moved to mainspace) and they will be not deleted for another year so it gives some additional time. S0091 (talk) 17:55, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

- "...most reports confirm that HPD fired somewhere around 3,000 rounds into Lanier Dormitory"[2], yeah i agree "how about this one". Will probably have to be a "Riot" article in scope and not just about the 5 tried and exonerated students tho. fiveby(zero) 22:57, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

I don't really know the ins and outs of why you're blocked from page creation, seems silly because what you're doing used to be how we did it on Wikipedia, but hey, it's working this way as well and that's a good thing. Also, in the immortal words of someone I reckon is Peter Candler's daughter Virginia, thanks for teaching me about Thomas Reed. And that Tornado. And maybe more to come. - Hey FloridaArmy, will you request G7 on this one - {{Db-g7}} ? It is now an article, Worth Tuttle Hedden. S0091 (talk) 19:45, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- I think merging and preserving the history is a better way to go. People give me a hard time for all sorts of stuff, but I find sentences like "Ella Worth Tuttle lived in various parts of North Carolina after her birth occurred in Raleigh, North Carolina on January 10, 1896." pretty far out. Thanks for bringing this overlap to my attention User:S0091. FloridaArmy (talk) 20:02, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- I redirected given I think all the pertinent content is in the article, but redirecting will maintain history. If you disagree, let me know and I will revert (no biggie). I just didn't want anyone spending additional time on the draft like I did (forgot to look before the leap). S0091 (talk) 20:08, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- I understand User:S0091, I try to catch some duplication with the redirects I include at the top of my drafts but anyone is free to start their own entry on a subject even if am entry on the same subject has already been started in draftspace. I went ahead and merged including the list of her writings I started and some coverage of what she wrote about. I linked Martha Washington College, sectioned that part of the history section in another university's entry, targeted the redirected, and mopped up a bit albeit imperfectly in the merged entity. I think her civil rights activity / advocacy needs expansion and clarification. FloridaArmy (talk) 20:32, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
