- The leading Baptist paper in New England that published anyi-slavery letters. Let's delete it from our pageless encyclopedia. [1]. Thoughts User:Jimbo Wales and User:Urve? FloridaArmy (talk) 07:30, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
- Definitely notable. I've requested a 'refund', and I share your annoyance with our deletion practices. About to head to work so can't look too much, but "The Boston-based Baptist periodical the Christian Watchman was later called the Watchman-Examiner, and libraries generally catalog it under that name" says [2], so that's another search term. Other sources that discuss the paper at least a bit include [3] [4] [5]. Urve (talk) 18:55, 3 February 2023 (UTC)

Hey FloridaArmy, I found this book today and I thought you may also find it useful. Particularly if you are doing any African-American WP articles related to Kentucky. It has a lot of helpful historical information and it is free to access online via Google Books.

@Blaze Wolf I noticed your question on the draft. See the very top of FA's talk page which has a link to their all their pending submissions and at this moment is 16. I think the restriction is 20 or maybe 25?, but either way FA is under it. However, you can check anytime.

- user:Pbritti could you please point out the mistakes? FloridaArmy (talk) 07:29, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
- One is mentioned in my comment. Another is
There was also a West Oneonta High School in West Oneonta, New York.
There are others, but I don't want to further beleaguer the point unless you're willing to make the changes. ~ Pbritti (talk) 07:38, 23 February 2023 (UTC)- I don't know what changes need to be made. There was not a West Oneonta High School? Why is it noted in the source? FloridaArmy (talk) 07:42, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
- The 104 year old source cites that "In 1918 at the school's 42nd commencement 53 students graduated, the largest class in the school's history." So I assume you want clarification that it was then the largest class. No problem. FloridaArmy (talk) 07:45, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
- I would point out that the opening paragraph states that there are 477 students and the class size bit you target appeared in a history section in chronological order. But I have clarified as per your request. What other changes would you like User:Pbritti? You're welcome to make them yourself instead of asking me to guess at them. FloridaArmy (talk) 07:49, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
- For at least two and a half years you've had the same problem: asking other editors to correct your mistakes. If your high volume of submissions continue to demonstrate failures to follow some of the more basic requirements for a new article, I will request another discussion regarding your competency to continue submitting AFCs. ~ Pbritti (talk) 07:55, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

In the last two threads here you have repeated three behaviors that have seen you become a heavily restricted editor. I will be filing an ANI tomorrow. I am sorry—I know many editors are rooting for you to succeed but you have not changed course. ~ Pbritti (talk) 08:20, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
- In Kettle War, another entry you note on your userpage, after the into paragraph only the last section appears to cover the incident? The whole entry is rather hard to follow and make sense of. Is it about the broader conflict or the incident?
- It's my experience that people attacking me and my work are every bit as imperfect as I am. I hope you take time to reflect on how you can improve your own work and interactions with others before disrupting my work and the good work of others here making every effort to improve this encyclopedia. It's strange to me that even after I pointed out that the "correction" you demanded addresses an ambiguity and not a glaring error or a blatant falsehood you've still gone ahead and doubled down on your attacks. Take care. FloridaArmy (talk) 08:28, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

- User:Pbritti I am not clear on exaclty where you are finding issues? What's there appears to me to be a good start with a summary, some cited sources, and a list of her books. What suggestions do you have specifically for improvements? Maybe you can go ahead and fix what's bothering you? FloridaArmy (talk) 23:11, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- A great many more details regarding her biography are readily accessible in the sources you have cited, suggesting that the draft, if approved in its current state, would provide insufficient encyclopedic coverage on Ellis (meanwhile, you noted inline that she was pictured in front of her home–not encyclopedic). Additionally, you have a really cool source engaging with one of the books she wrote. You should embrace that and actually use it to discuss her writing style. As it is, the article is only used to note Ellis was at one time featured in a museum (the draft should note that the exhibit was present in 1996; I don't know if it's still there but a source older than me isn't good enough to make claims about present exhibits}. ~ Pbritti (talk) 23:18, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- User:Pbritti I agree the subject should be greatly expanded and the entry improved. The best place for that is in mainspace where our readers and editors can get to work on it. It's bad enough we've excluded her for the last 15 or so years. Let's at least get her started. Please go ahead and make the changes you suggest. FloridaArmy (talk) 23:24, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- The draft would make an incomplete article. I would encourage you to perform the rewrite yourself, but I am more than glad to help if you like as I have written quite a bit on Coloradans involved in mining! Again, there were other issues that need to be addressed beyond the broad coverage. ~ Pbritti (talk) 23:28, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- I believe all of Wikipedia's entries are incomplete. Right now we have nothing on her, so what I wrote is I think a substantial inprovement on the status quo. You are most welcome to make changes. The reason I included the bit on her photograph is because it provides the reader with access to a photo of her, establishes where she lived at that time, establishes that there are in fact photos of her, and perhaps helps moves us toward getting that image and others included here. So as you see different editors have different perspectives. I wrote up what seemed most pertinent to me but I'm sure a great deal of additions and changes will be made over time as people with other persepctives and interests contribute. Hopefully the entry will get a great deal better. Elisabeth Hubbard Lansing (Draft:Elisabeth Hubbard Lansing) is another interesting writer who seems very notable to me but I haven't been able to find great sources for her and coverage of her work. Her Seeing New York is pretty fascinating. FloridaArmy (talk) 23:40, 22 February 2023 (UTC)

- User:Asilvering according to our entry on the subject, that encyclopedia is authoritative but did suffer from one or two contributors putting in fake people. It appears to me based on the various other sources covering this subject that he was not made up. Encyclopedias often have multiple contributors. Bad contributions from one or two do not mean the rest of the content is bad do they? This subject is certainly esoteric, but I think he's quite fascinating as an immigrant New York bookseller from that time who wrote an interesting bibliography of books about the devil and published some interesting works including a society sheet rankling elite New Yorkers. FloridaArmy (talk) 02:57, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
- I don't think he's made up, I just don't think we've got a WP:GNG pass on the basis of significant coverage in reliable sources here yet. -- asilvering (talk) 04:12, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

- User:S0091 I believe she passes WP:Author. Her husband is also quite notable. I wasn't sure how best to include them. I think a combined article makes sense in some ways but probably the coverage treats them largely as separate entities. I believe they collaborated on some projects? Is the encyclopedia better off excluding her? At the very least I think the subject deserves an AfD hearing so we can have wider input and a community consensus. Thanks for your many reviews of AfC submissions!!! FloridaArmy (talk) 03:12, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
- If you find some academic reviews of her books you should be able to get her to a WP:NAUTHOR pass I think. -- asilvering (talk) 04:13, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
- @FloridaArmy Before asking other editors to take time to review your articles, please take the time yourself to check for typos, and to make sure that your references are properly formatted. Apart from anything else, a reviewer is likely to be unconsciously negatively influenced by carelessness such as "Carole Watterson Troxler os a historian" and references like the current references 1 (garbled) and 7 ("Author"). - User:S0091, I have not seen the Scopus site before but Google Scholar results show citations to her work here. Is Scopus reliable? Are those a different kind of cite? I'm just trying to understand. Thanks for your help. FloridaArmy (talk) 11:28, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
- To show a WP:NPROF pass you're not trying to show that she is cited, but that she is cited unusually highly for her field. Scopus has its problems for sure, and especially does for humanists, so I would never use it as a sole check on a historian's notability myself, but the references currently in the article don't show that she passes WP:NAUTHOR either - and that's usually how humanists survive AfD discussions. -- asilvering (talk) 15:27, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks. In order to meet the Author criteria I've been trying to find some good reviews but weirdly the Google Scholar cites I'm finding giver her accolades in reviews of books by other people about similar subjects. I'd be happy to have some help. She seems to be of some influence and has received recognition I will try again with different search terms when I have a chance. Thanks for your help. FloridaArmy (talk) 15:35, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
- I usually use my university library's search to find reviews, but google scholar will probably work too. Regular google should also, though it won't be as convenient as either of the other options. Search for the title of the book, adding the author last name if the title is generic enough that it gives you problems getting the right thing to come up. On a uni library search the first hit should be the book, and the next hits will be reviews of the book (if there are any). Reviews conventionally have the bibliographic information of the book as the "title" in search databases, or they might say "Review of (bib info goes here)". -- asilvering (talk) 16:56, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
- I should add: the standard is usually "multiple books with multiple reviews". If the best you can do is two reviews of two books, you might as well submit it and cross your fingers, but that might not be enough, and it might depend on where the reviews are. In the sciences you have to watch out for predatory journals named plausible things like "Journal of Cancer Research", but in the humanities if something is named after its discipline, like "Journal of Eighteenth-century Studies", it's probably legit and often the field standard. Something named "Florida Review" or whatever is more likely to be a nothingburger. -- asilvering (talk) 17:04, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

- @Asilvering I didn't use it as the sole reason for the decline but I can see how my comment made it seem that way. It was an additional check and knew about Scopus/h-index from reading AfD discussions. Academia is a weak spot for me so any guidance is helpful and I will try to remember humanists usually need to meet NAUTHOR.
- FA, I see you have made some updates to the draft but I am going to leave this one for someone else to take up given my weakness in the area. S0091 (talk) 15:48, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry for the confusion, I didn't mean to imply that you had declined the draft improperly. I don't think it meets the criteria either. I do think it would be unusual for a prof emerita with four books to not be able to meet WP:NAUTHOR, but there's no obligation for an AfC reviewer to go find sources that aren't in the draft. -- asilvering (talk) 16:41, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
- All good, @Asilvering! I didn't take your comment in any negative way. S0091 (talk) 16:51, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

— Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 01:05, 9 March 2023 (UTC)Recent edit reversion
In this edit here, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy.
I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.
I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) If you think my edit was mistaken, please politely let me know and I will investigate. S Philbrick(Talk) 14:48, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

S0091 (talk) 16:39, 10 March 2023 (UTC)- Hi FloridaArmy, I did not create the redirect for Sarah because she is mentioned in a few articles so think it better if someone searches for her, they get hits on all of them rather than being directed to only one. Happy Friday! S0091 (talk) 16:50, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
