Avoiding self-promotion
I reverted the large changes by User:Gescobar-cur because (1) they removed existing text together with their supporting citations; and (2) the changed article read too much like a promotion piece by the company's marketing department, containing several sections of unsourced material and apparent trivia, and material solely sourced by the company. I will now expand the article slightly to include a few of the sourced statements. Also, it would be useful to find sources that are independent of the company. -84user (talk) 01:10, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
- Parts of this article still read like self-promotion. Even though statements are sourced, they're worded like "Gamers started to take note of all the great features that Curse Voice has to offer," "Curse Voice has been proven to improve a game's community," and "It is no surprise with all of the recent success by Curse headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama that Bloomberg would name the city one of "The Unlikely Cities That Will Power The U.S. Economy." 98.220.89.150 (talk) 23:45, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
Added DayZWiki
Added Dayz Wiki, as it is used largely by the DayZ community, and is clearly hosted by Curse, Inc. if you check the bottom of the page.

Page move
The company's branding has been updated and the "Inc." is no longer part of the name. Due to disambiguation, should it be moved to "Curse (company)"? --Alianin (talk) 19:11, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
"Acquisition by Overwolf"
Hi, I'm not going to edit this since I work at Fandom and therefore have a conflict of interest, but I wanted to point out that this article (in the "Acquisition by Overwolf" section) is stating that Overwolf acquired Curse. It acquired CurseForge, but not Curse. Curse as a company was acquired by Fandom in 2018 and its websites (other than CurseForge which remained with Twitch) remain part of Fandom. Gamepedia wikis became part of the Fandom community platform while Curse DTC and esports properties are still operated by Fandom. - BrandonRhea (talk) 17:13, 3 April 2022 (UTC)
- I've made several changes that include some of what you've said. What does 'Curse DTC' mean, and which Esports properties are operated by Fandom? I had a hard time trying to figure out what went where and I only hope that I was able to improve the article. Pneen (talk) 07:51, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
Splitting proposal: CurseForge
I propose that the section about CuseForge be split into a separate page called CurseForge. Curse has undergone several acquisitions and was quite a diverse company, making it difficult to find information about the CurseForge website and app, which is still active. Other modding websites also have their own articles. Pneen (talk) 08:04, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
- Keep in mind CurseForge is only one part of the now split company. For example, there's still no article about Curse Media, or even Gamepedia. I think creating a page about the "website" (not the company) would be better, but that's just my own opinion --aRychlink (talk) 19:23, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Both the "Possibly defunct" and ""Acquisition by Overwolf"" talk topics express a similar confusion.
- From the different statements from different people and organisations that I've read and pieced together internally, it seems that Curse Media and Gamepedia were not separate subsidiary companies. And like them, it appears that CurseForge is not a separate company but is simply a service, which has since been acquired and is now operated by Overwolf. Ultimately, it seems that we agree that a new article should be written. Feel free to create a proposal to split Curse Media! Pneen (talk) 10:04, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
Magic Find's asset acquisitions
What assets did Curse acquire? From what I've read, the assets that Curse acquired remained with them after Twitch acquired Curse. What happened to Curse's assets after Fandom's acquisition? MMO Champion and Minecraft Forum both say that they were with Fandom after they acquired Curse, and that it was Fandom who sold their communities to Magic Find. MMO Champion and Minecraft Forum are two of many.

all conflict with https://news.cision.com/m-o-b-a-network-ab/r/m-o-b-a--network-enters-into-an-agreement-to-acquire-the-company-magic-find---a-leading-player-withi,c3349956
A Reddit comment sheds a bit of information but does not completely clear these questions: https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/bzprjl/comment/equxij8 but it also links to a Reddit comment by Magic Find's founder.
So the question is, what properties did Magic Find acquire, and from which company? Pneen (talk) 15:54, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
CurseForge website launch date and lots of missing information
The Wikipedia article says that the beginning of Curse is with CurseBeta going live in 2006. The source is only an announcement.
I went digging for the actual site in the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine and saw that it used to be Curse Gaming. It launched on Jan 9, 2005. The dedicated addon/mod page was first archived January 15, 2005.
And then on June 9, 2007, the Curse website was in a private beta. It went public July 3, 2007.
The announcement tells us that the CurseForge website was launched in beta in May 2008. It's important to note that the launch of the CurseForge website was part of the Curse Network. At the time, Curse Network was split into "core sites", "database sites" and "community sites", as per the Curse website in 2008. It did not have the split between Curse Network, Gamepedia, and Curse Network as it did later. When did it get out of beta? What other information could be taken from the CurseForge announcements page and the Curse announcements page?
From a quick look, I can already see their announcement of their acquisition of Futhead and of the discontinuation of the Mac Curse Client. Pneen (talk) 23:50, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
