Contradiction[edit]

Under History, this article says

"Steam locomotives of the time could not run well in reverse, and the turntable allowed engines to be turned round to point in the forward direction. The design also allowed engines to be kept under cover in a number of radial sidings within the shed.

Within 20 years locomotives became too large for the facilities to handle, and the Roundhouse underwent a number of changes of use."

Under Arts venue it says

"Although it appeared to be a locomotive-turning shed it had never been used for that purpose. Its original purpose was to house the winding gear to pull the trains up hill from Euston Station and once steam power was strong enough, it became redundant."

There's a clear contradiction here. Does anybody know the real story? BTLizard 15:41, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

you know, before the work for the get back album (let it be) began, Paul had initially suggested playing a series of shows at London’s Roundhouse in December, an idea that quickly fizzled.

The Doors[edit]

The article says "This large circular structure has hosted various notable promotions, such as the launch of the underground paper International Times in 1966,[2] The Doors only UK appearance in 1968[3] and Greasy Truckers Party in 1972.[4]"

Depending how you read it, this could be correct if it was their only UK appearance in 1968, but they did subsequently appear at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival and it's easy to construe this quote as meaning the appearance in 1968 was the only appearance ever in the UK. The Roundhouse → Roundhouse – Use of 'the' in title is incorrect. The organisation is simply called 'Roundhouse' and therefore the use of the definite article is unecessary and incorrect.

Rename to Roundhouse (venue). The official website describes it as a "cultural venue" rather than a theatre, and the article makes it clear that it hosts more things than theatrical productions (probably theatre is a minority). - I've just spotted that Roundhouse (venue) is a redirect here following a page move to the current title in October 2008 and (still) has many incomming links. The edit summary was "The name of the place". If the move was discussed anywhere I've not found it. I'll let user:SilkTork (who moved the page) know about this discussion. - Actually, searching google for roundhouse camden shows a roughly even split between those that use the definite article and those that do not; looking only at reliable sources where "The" is not the start of the sentence, the proportion using the definite article are distinctly in the minority. When a subject has an undisputed official name, as here, we should normally use it unless there is another name that is clearly the most common in reliable sources, and in this case it is not clear that "The Roundhouse" is more common in reliable sources than "Roundhouse". Additionally, our policy is clear (WP:DEFINITE) that (in)definite articles should only be part of the article title if it is part of the "proper name", which in this case it isn't.
