Creating articles?

Do you mean creating the actual page or writing the article itself? If you're talking about just the page, when you search for somethign that doesn't exist it should give you a "create article" option near the top of the page.09:04, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Criticising

It is considered unethical in Wikipedia to criticize users if they don't share your own beliefs. Please refrain from doing it, and also, do not be prejudiced to people younger than you. --[|.K.Z|][|.Z.K|] 05:05, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clearing

Feel free to clean up your userpage, but do not delete warnings. My suggestion is to archive the discussions. --[|.K.Z|][|.Z.K|] 06:56, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't find a citation, but Try this--Kingofslackrs 07:21, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

His point is that your user page should contain more wikipedia information, compared to personal information, and that your user page isn't a personal blog or website. Also, please don't put in misleading information such as your edit count being more than 14,000. --K.Z Talk Vandal Contrib 09:15, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are you the same user as 71.96.245.52, Trampton, Dalmation, Teddey, and Jupiter12? Michaelas10 (Talk) 16:31, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because of this and listing them as the IP's friends. Or did you create this page through a friend's computer? Michaelas10 (Talk) 22:47, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In case you use those accounts, please state so on their userpage using {{User Alternate Acct}} or at least add a due notice of your connection to them in order to avoid accusations of meatpuppetry. Also, as a courtesy for other editors, kindly observe Wikipedia guidelines and sign your talk page and user talk page posts. To do so simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments and your user name or IP address and the date will be automatically added. For further info see: Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. Thanks. Michaelas10 (Talk) 23:00, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Probably because someone doesn't like your style. Try using paragraph breaks or bullets to seperate the thoughts on your page. Also, try not to be a little more professional in your comments. Also, when you reply to people's comments, put a : at the beginning of the line to indent your text (hit edit and see what I did). If they already have a :, add another one to yours. It makes converations flow better.
Would you like some help cleaning up your user page to make it a little easier on the eyes? I'm no expert, but I've managed to clean up a few things here and there. -- TomXP411[Talk] 02:43, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for visitng User:Trampton.

Oh and by the way, please sign your name or user name below in my "Guestbook". I'd really enjoy that! (Press "edit" and put your name on the list!)

User page

Yes I do mean that. And if I like the changes I'll keep them.--Carabinieri 16:24, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Trampton,

It is perfectly ok for articles to have red links to topics, there should be articles about. This can help give people a hint about what articles might be missing. Thanks for your help, but I'm going to re-add those red links you removed.

--Carabinieri 20:40, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I don't get what you mean. Create a discussion on what? Have what up faster?--Carabinieri 20:50, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If somenone wants to comment the article, they can start the talk page themselves. It isn't any more work to start a talk page than to add a comment to one that already exists.--Carabinieri 01:04, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Then they can also simply click on discussion at the top of the page and add a comment. If you want that talk page created, then create it yourself, that takes about 2 seconds, I just don't see any reason why an empty talk page is needs.--Carabinieri 01:16, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's exactly the point: there's nothing to be discussed yet.--Carabinieri 12:38, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Where does it say that? And I'm not sure exactly what you want to delete. What do you mean with "put people"?--Carabinieri 12:48, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I'm sorry I forget to put it.I mean on Under various months like for an example:December 5th,very often under "Births" and "Deaths", it will show people that lead to red links.
Yeah, go ahead.--Carabinieri 12:47, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxes

I didn't actually put the pictures there, all i did was went and found ones that already existed as templates with pictures --Random832 13:18, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re:How?

Well, before considering adminship, you must know if you qualify for adminship. Some things people look for is the number of edits, the type of work you do, participation in Xfds and AIV, civility and helpfulness, among other things. See WP:ADMIN. That should help, I believe. Also, see WP:RFA, which is the place where people can request adminship. I think you have a long way's to go before considering adminship. Keep up the good work, though. =) Nishkid64 21:58, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What image? The Picture of the Day? If that's what you mean, then all you have to do is put {{POTD}} on your userpage somewhere. Nishkid64 23:48, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Have you followed the links from the userboxes? You just put the userbox on your userpage. This is a wiki, so everything is self-declaratory. Xiner (talk, email) 13:42, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits at User talk:Saikano

Please stop indulging Saikano's desire to chat about the non-existent and non-notable organization. Additionally, I'm confused as to why you are signing with other users' signatures. Don't do that. Leebo86 15:40, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My suggestion is to log in with the account you wish to sign as. Are you the owner of those other accounts? If so, I don't think it falls within policy to have that many accounts. If you don't own those accounts, don't represent yourself as the owner. Leebo86 15:48, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see you added added the alternate account box, but first of all, you left out the Trampton part, so it doesn't display properly. And second of all, you need to log in as your alternate account and say "I confirm that this account is an alternate account of User:Trampton. Leebo86 15:53, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In case you don't understand, you have to put {{User Alternate Acct|Trampton}} to make it look like
otherwise it looks like
Also... you have to log in as User:Dalmation to do the confirmation, otherwise you're just some user who hijacked an empty page. Leebo86 16:00, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Let me clarify the alternate account rules for you. You can have alternate accounts. That's fine. Place the message on them. You should not edit as User:Trampton and sign as User:Dalmation or User:Jupiter12. I have not seen confirmation from either of these accounts that they actually belong to you. Until you can log in with them, do not sign their names. Also, you should have the password information, it doesn't matter which computer you log in from. Leebo86 16:09, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not saying that you don't own the accounts. I'm saying that in order to display {{User Alternate Acct|Trampton}} on their user pages, you need to log in as them and confirm it on the user page. Secondly, you can't sign as them if you're not logged in as them. Lastly, you don't need the other computers to log in as them. Leebo86 16:15, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand your question. You would log into Dalmation or Jupiter12 in the same way you log into any account: Put in the account's name and its password. Putting in Trampton as the user name to log into another account won't work... as that's your account name. Leebo86 16:32, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great, now use Jupiter12 to leave a message at User:Jupiter12 saying "I confirm that this account is an alternate account of User:Trampton". Leebo86 16:41, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Adding the template would be fine too, but it was added by User:Trampton. Do you understand? If we allowed anyone to declare that an account was theirs without having that account log in and confirm it, there would be no way to enforce the rules about alternate accounts. It's not that I don't trust you, but I've seen people try to "claim" unused accounts as their own. Leebo86 16:46, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since August 2005 I started following the principles "all the faiths lead to God" "all the holy books come from God", "there is only one religion - the religon of Love" and the teachings of Sai Baba, Paramahansa Yogananda and Mahatma Gandhi on the unity of all religions. re:HELP!

Technically it is definately possible, though it's generally not done as far as I'm informed. Anyway you'll have to ask a bureaucrat, since simple admins can't do this. But I doubt they'd be willing to help you on this.

Re:Remember me?

That string of numbers was your computer's IP address. In other words, it means you were logged out, you weren't in any account. People who don't have an account can still contribute as an anonymous IP address. Log out of your account and you'll see that's the case. Instead of your username, you'll see your computer's IP address as the "username". Leebo T/C 13:47, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I'm ready too. Just tell me what you'd like to get started with (whether it be process, images, formatting, or anything you'd like). If you don't know, just tell me, and I'll recommend something. Alex43223 Talk | Contribs | E-mail | C 01:41, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, if you'd like, you can go ahead and put "{{Adoptee|Alex43223}}" on your userpage. I'll put you on mine. Alex43223 Talk | Contribs | E-mail | C 01:45, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Getting started

Well, do you understand the basic wiki markup? I'm sure you do, after seeing your userpage. First off, I'd recommend reading up on Policies and Guidelines and the whole Introduction. When you've done that, I'll tell you where else we can go. Alex43223 Talk | Contribs | E-mail | C 02:50, 13 March 2007 (UTC) Also, keep in mind that on talk pages you should always type four tildes (~~~~), to let users simply know when you typed it and who you are.[reply]

My, you're attentive. More so than some others I've worked with...okay well, let's see...Now tell me what you're interested in learning out of these categories...

  • Articles (Editing, Sourcing, etc.)
  • Wikipedia Process (Policies, Polls and concensus, etc.)
  • MediaWiki syntax (extended syntax, basic syntax, etc.)
  • The Community (Interaction with other users, policies on that specifically, etc.)
  • Other areas (Categories, Templates, Help, Interface Wording, etc.)

We'll go by these, and start off with whichever you want. Then we can narrow it down. Alex43223 Talk | Contribs | E-mail | C 03:50, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay

Well, after I leave this, I'm going to bed. But anytime I'm offline, feel welcome to leave any messages on my talk page so that I can pick them up when I get back on. Okay, so you want to create an article, huh?
Well, first off, you have to make sure it's encyclopedic. You should skim through WP:NOTE and WP:NOT and get the basic drift of what belongs here. From then on, all you would do is (there are a couple of ways):

  • Type the article title in the search box, then click Go. If it shows up, there's already an article (may or may not be about the exact same thing). If an "article not found" type of page comes up, then click on the redlink at the top, and that'll take you to the article where you can begin editing.
  • Additionally, you could type the name in the URL like "en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARTICLE".

This is the basic route for starting an article. Next (when I get back on), I can tell you some more nifty stuff. Talk to you soon. Alex43223 Talk | Contribs | E-mail | C 04:37, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Popups

Hey, just in case Alex is back for a while, try reading WP:POPUPS if you'd like to learn more about pop-ups... Hope that helps. The Rambling Man 08:28, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Watchlist

Well, a watchlist serves a few purposes. First, any recent changes to pages on your watchlist will be bolded in [Special:Recentchanges]], so that they will stand out. Also, you can easily check up on them in Special:Watchlist, to see any recent changes to those pages within any given time period. Personally, I find it useful for keeping track of pages I want to check out later, that I'll forget (movies or singers, for example). The only other use is for admins in Special:Unwatchedpages, to see which articles are on no one's watchlist. Hope this helps. By the way, check out that popups link above. They are really handy tools and I recommend you give them a try. Talk to you later (soon). Alex43223 Talk | Contribs | E-mail | C 16:14, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And as for the popups, the simplest way I can give you is adding {{subst:navpop}} to User:Trampton/monobook.js. For the add-ons and extensive codes, if you want them, I'll give them to you. Alex43223 Talk | Contribs | E-mail | C 16:31, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's because Lupin created and coded them. They're stored in his user space. Well, are they working? Do you like them? Some input? Alex43223 Talk | Contribs | E-mail | C 20:12, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Harder

Should we make Wikipedia harder from people who are vandalists or etc., like a special test? Trampton 04:15, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How exactly would this work (without affecting the fundamental anyone-can-edit philosophy of the project)? – Qxz 18:08, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, aren't we being too too easy, I think some users are kinda sick of vandalists and reverting their mistakes. Trampton 11:20, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed; I would count myself among them. However, I disagree with any attempt to reduce vandalism that makes life difficult for people who are interested in making useful contributions. For example, the idea of preventing anyone from editing unless they create an account has been brought up many times before, but consensus is very much against such a move – and with good reason. Quite apart from going again the "anyone-can-edit" idea, most of our actual content is added by anonymous users who make only a few edits. Those of us who are more regular contributors and have made thousands of edits tend to focus less on adding new information and more on fixing what's already there – formatting and rewriting articles, reverting vandalism and discussing changes – Qxz 20:14, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure

Yea, I'll add the motto. But there are different kinds. I'll add the standard version, but would you rather have a userbox, smaller text, text that you can change the font of, or something surrounded by a box? Just tell me if you want it changed. Mistaken in what way? If you don't have the password for that account, then I don't know what to tell you, but there's no way to change an IP address into a user account. That string of numbers is your IP address, not an account. Leebo T/C 16:10, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Huh?

Why did you give me a smilie? I just don't know why. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kevin mills (talkcontribs) 01:08, 22 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I noticed that you have the "Today's Featured Article" template on this alternate account's user page. This is not like having "Today's Featured Picture" on your user page. To become featured, a picture must be free - that is, not a fair use image. Featured articles can have fair use images, and as a result, fair use images can and will appear on Matchbox45's user page from time to time. This is disallowed according to Wikipedia:User page. Please remove the template. Thanks. Leebo T/C 16:50, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the Love

But what prompted it? Have we had an interaction? Did I do something that looked like I needed a hug?  :-) Thanks though. --Blue Tie 20:17, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Ads

Most definitely. Pretty much as long as you don't put spam links all over the place, or include anything derogatory, you can put whatever you want on your userpage. Alex43223 T | C | E 02:44, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your help desk vandalism report

I have found no obvious signs that User:Philwelch has committed any (recent) acts of vandalism. If you can point me to a specific problem, I would be happy to check it out. Otherwise, I have responded to your report in general terms at the Help Desk.--Vbd (talk) 06:46, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Most incidents of vandalism are handled pretty quickly, so I don't think there is much to done about old indiscretions. Please refer to the links I provided for you at the Help Desk should you encounter acts of vandalism in the future.--Vbd (talk) 07:10, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE:How?

Just make subpages. I think that my methods are pretty good, and they're easy to understand. for the actual board, just copy it from somewhere. Any more questions? -- Kevin (TALK)(MUSIC) 20:26, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you can copy the actual chess board w/ comment and move boxes on this page. Thats the one I use. -- Kevin (TALK)(MUSIC) 22:17, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Umm, yeah, just replace my name with yours, and that should set it straight. -- Kevin (TALK)(MUSIC) 02:27, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"New messages" box

Greetings, I noticed that User:ST47 removed your "new message" joke box. Please be advised that there never as an established consensus about doing that. The only consensus was to request active users to remove them and to remove them on inactive (ie: no activity for months) accounts. Feel free to restore your "new messages" banner (or not if you would rather abide by ST47's request). (Netscott) 21:09, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the code that appeared on your page previously, you can just edit it back in. Do know however that joke "new message" boxes that are indistinguishable from real "new message" notifications are not popular amongst long established Wikipedia editors.

<div class="usermessage">You have <u style="color:#002BB8">[[/Gag|new messages]]</u> (<u style="color:#002BB8">[[/Gag|last change]]</u>).</div>

Cheers, (Netscott) 22:22, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Trampton, QuasyBoy again. Just wanted to talk to you about some of the edits that you did on the Shelley Buckner page. The information that you added was taken from IMDB and IMDB isn't really a reliable source to formally obtain information. I know besides IMDB their are'nt any other sources to find info on actors. So just beware next time and Happy Editing!!! :) QuasyBoy 18:10, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the smile! Your so sweet! On your userpage you have a new message bar. Apparently, you are not supposed to have those. It would be smart to delete it and the page it leads to. Please respond. Your pal, WikiMan53 t/s Review me! 23:39, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Back at ya. Don't worry, I'm not getting stressed out about this at all. In fact, I'm sort of amused by it. Kelly might be a little incivil at times but she's got a wonderful amount of creativity. I imagine if she'd continued, I'd have gotten all sorts of fun remarks. Cheers, LankybuggerYell16:21, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ditto

I see where User:Trampton/Gag was deleted over at Miscellany for deletion. I'm not motivated enough to take it to deletion review myself, but if you want to, please let me know and I'll be glad to help. --Ssbohio 14:26, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The first thing to do is decide whether you want to make a stand on this issue. I had a boss who, when we were in heated "discussion" about something would say: "You've gotta ask yourself, Steve: 'Is this the ditch I want to die in?'" In other words, s this the stand that's worth it to make?
The second thing to do is familiarize yourself with the deletion review process. The issue I see is that there is no policy directly supporting this deletion. The nomination was based on stretching a guideline to fit a situation that the guideline never even considers. Keep me posted. --Ssbohio 17:33, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Index Table

Thanx for that.

When I meant table I actually meant the index table you see on every wiki page.

How do we make those?

You know, the contents/index tables.

you placed a speedy deletion thing on the page "fortune (band). one of these has already been removed by an administrator today. it clearly meets criteria 2-6 of your band or musical group guidlines with international hits, tours, and major cd's. please explain and remobe your speedy deletion marker.
