Beheira Governorate (Arabic: البحيرة , el-Beheirah; 'the Lake') is a coastal governorates in Egypt. It is in the north of the country and its capital is Damanhur. The distance from Cairo (Attaba) to el-Beheirah is 135 km. It is also one of the largest governates in Egypt. Beheira enjoys an important strategical place where it is located west of the Rashid branch of the Nile west and east of Marsa Matrouh. It containa four important highways, the Cairo desert road, the Cairo agriculture road, the international road and the circular road. Beheira contains an important tourist center, Islamic monuments, Coptic churches especially in Wadi El Natrun.
Behira consists of 13 cntres and 14 cities behira is considered a catle of education because it contain more than 2,345 schools and 243 ahari schools also it contains faculties which are present in damnhour and also in Idfena in Rashid for faculty of veterinarian also it contains an important industries like cotton and chemicals, carpets electricity production and also in nubariia it contains compound power station. Also in kafr el dawar, an important city in behira for large amount of industries present there like cotton and clothes production and electricity production and fruits packing also behira is considered an important place for fish production especially in Rashid where a lot of fisher mens work in fishing and produce large amount of fishes which are considered a treasure place of fishes of different types.
